Haven't listened to it for ages, and still sounds great. Clasdic

Beautifully recorded and mixed with great harmonies, but ultimately didn't grab me.

The stripped back music, just voice, guitar and harmonica force you to focus on the lyrics and they still resonate hard decades later. An amazing album

A live album, sounds like the band had a great time, me not so much.

Great album that till sounds fresh and relevant nearly 50 years on. You can hear echoes of the songs in modern music still.

Innovative, emotional and worth the entry for the title track alone.

Breathes new life and emotion into songs I have heard too many times before. Fragile, poised and beautiful. Moved me to tears.

The brass section were always a highlight of Dexys and they are at there best in some songs here. Some truly great numbers, trouble is it loses it's way towards meh in the second half only to be rescued by the "even though I have heard it too many times" come on Eileen, that stands out. Some great songs, just not enough.

Good singles, bad rest of album.

Sublime pop with razor sharp lyrics. Great song follows great song. Deserved of its consideration as a classic.

Oh dear, just not very good.

Given this was 1983, I can hear echoes of its influences in industrial, grunge and various forms of metal from the late 80s and beyond. Still not my thing though.

I so wanted to like this, and had great expectations. It just didn't hit the spot.

Good singles, lots of filler.

Expected to hate this, but liked its idiosyncratic 60s folk pop rock.

Loved this when it was released and it has aged surprisingly well. There are some weaker songs on here, but that's only because they nestle amongst some great tracks.

Didn't expect to like this, but is melodic, emotive and easy to like.

Razor sharp beats, huge bass and sharp flow. Great.

Confused as to why this is on the list. There are a number of bands who have mastered better. Jesus and Mary chain, sonic youth, Spacemen 3 to name a few. This is mostly dull with only 1 or 2 good tracks.

Relentlessly energetic and some great songs, mainly when they switched things up a bit and moved away from the formula.

So much energy. Songs are short and sharp and feel on edge of becoming out of control at times.

Hugely influential, inventive, funky, brilliant

90s East Coast rap plagued with tropes. Victim mentality about gold diggas on Da Bitches, yet talks about how many honeys they attract. Please.

Some very good songs, but too many pompous, turgid 6th forn profound lyrics.

Depeche Mode started to stretch their wings here and develop, something which culminated in their masterpiece: Violator. My criticism of the album is the production leaves the songs sounding flat and sterile and I recommend listening to them on the live album 101. On 101 the songs become more muscular and organic. WIth Never let me down again really shining.

Butt clenchingly awful, but thankfully quite short

Turned 3pm on a sunny afternoon into 3 pm in a smoke filled jazz club. Amazing atmosphere and some good songs.

Blur built on the melancholic aspects of Parklife to great effect, and whilst this can be seen as a logical step towards the darker 13, it hits all the right notes. Song 2 and Death of a Party are worth thee try price alone. Outstanding.

He is a very talented rapper and producer and that is demonstrated on this album, where his ego doesn't lord it as much as some of his others. Just not my thing.

Some genuinely gREAT stuff here, but like pains for the pure at heart and S.C.U.M. not enough to warrant inclusion on the best albums ever list

Close harmony tedium. The best track was one of the remaster's bonus tracks

Politics aside, this is an ok album that fails to match his or the smiths previous work

In common with most punk albums of the era, when it nails it it's brilliant. But there can be lapses into mundane guitar stuff.

Immaculate, forward thinking production, just not the same strength of songs as Loveless. When it goes right it is amazing.

5 star album for the musi, - 2 stars for the self important vocals

When it gets it right, it's great (basically the singles) everything else just sounds like filler.
