Not sure what exactly this is.
I only know ITCOFKC so this is quite the departure lol. When they rock out it sounds great, the rest is whiny pretentious rubbish. Maybe this is one of those records that needs a few listens to "get it". Unfortunately this album won't be getting that chance with me
Absolute shit
I don't like prog rock. I don't like shapeless noise. I don't like blaring guitars appearing out of nowhere. I did not like this.

Was that just chimes for four minutes up front? It sets the stage for an anti-climactic, self-indulgent mess of cockery and noodling. Not at all something I need in my life.

Oh gosh. Exactly what is this? What is this for? Is someone supposed to enjoy listening to this? Yeah, no. This is pure noise. Tapping out after 5 minutes. I can’t listen to this mess.
op naar de 1.5 ster. Ik schrok me een hoedje bij het enige nummer wat wel redelijk klonk doordat er ineens een gillende manvrouw kwam ofzo. Bij vlagen kon ik dit waarderen maar dit was me wel echt een experiment. wel grappig dat je op een gegeven moment een soort mongolion throatsinging hoort

Experimental is the word for this. I actually listened through twice. Becuase the album was on repeat 🤦♂️ An odd combination of sounds, combining orchestral/classical elements with precussion, talking and jazz influences. Not for me though
Almost unlistenable. One or two decent songs. The bonus tracks were better than most of the original songs.
Highlights: Easy Money Hmm, I don't really know what to say about this album. It felt very subtle in its sound but I just didn't really feel it. Easy money was good but it felt like the only song that knew what it was about. I dont think I will come back to this one.
It is just SO self-indulgent. Fairly accomplished musicianship. So tell me how people who understand the rewards of a disciplined development of craft allow themselves to be so dismissive of the craft of songwriting? The same is true of vocals. For some reason, beginning in the 60s, accomplished musicians believed singing involved no skillset that had to be honed and developed. Just open your mouth and push out some air to words and an approximation of melody. Somehow it's the musical equivalent of communes. Everyone just trying to be free and live their fullest lives by getting out from under the constraints of convention. I'm all for pushing boundaries. Yes did it quite well. King Crimson does not impress me.

A nonsense 13 minute long opening track is exactly why nobody likes prog rock

24th May 2023 Listened a day late cos of a busy day in the office. Book club in Kensington pub in the evening, felt funny and a bit down / anxious with lots of baby chat. This didn’t help. Didn’t like the first one, don’t like this one. hopefully I’m towards the end of all the prog rock offerings here.
Ik vond zelf dat ik nog best ver was gekomen met die album, maar dit is eigenlijk gewoon niet te doen.
Ik ben echt niet vies van een potje prog, maar dit is echt niet om aan te horen.

When it comes to King Crimson, I learned the hard way to stick with In the Court of the Crimson King.
Too proggy for my taste. Lots of messy noise.
Indulgent and not for me.
Two of my three favorite artists are prog rock musicians. But I don't much care for King Crimson. I don't get it. I enjoy some of Pink Floyd's more experimental stuff. And some of Captain Beefheart's stuff. But not this. I don't get it. I strongly believe that if an artist is respected by a lot of people (esp. ones that aren't middle school children), they are probably talented. This is how I feel about King Crimson. And they (he) have stood the test of time. But I don't get it. And I do believe there are cases where reviews suffer from the issue of "The Emperor's New Clothes". "This album is challenging to listen to, so it must be deep." And then someone says that, and others feel like, "Well, I don't want to be seen as shallow, so yeah, though I don't really enjoy sitting down and listening to this, it must be deep, and the musicians are really talented, so yeah, it is good after all!" No one wants to be the one to say that, sure, it's innovative, and the music is well played, but no one actually wants to listen to the damn thing. I don't expect all of my music to be "easy" to listen to, but I don't see when I would want to sit down and listen to this. Maybe this is "groundbreaking" or highly innovative or some such, yet, I don't think it's enjoyable for many, and that's more important, so it gets two stars. I appreciate Fripp's talent, but the songs just aren't very enjoyable. Even the critics that praise the album admit that it's not easy to listen to. But that's mostly the point of music, so this is mostly a fail. I think all the praise is mostly people not wanting to point out that the emperor isn't wearing any clothes.
Alan Niester of Rolling Stone summarized the album saying "You can't dance to it, can't keep a beat to it, and it doesn't even make good background music for washing the dishes.”
