Very much not for me
60es, singer/songwriter und dann noch diese stimme - ok, ich höre was anderes.
Nicht so meines, zuviele Bläser und zu jazzig
Not my vibe, her voice isn't that great. Songs are basic
I don't get why this album is on the list at all. It's not good, nor was it a major hit. There are some moments that are quite pleasant, but it keeps drifting into amateur show tune territory, to the point where it becomes pretty annoying.
Not for me. 1/5
Jazz is boring. This is boring.
en muista juuri mitään jahas... noh kuuluuku 1001 listalle... I am the riddler and here is the riddle....
Skipped through most songs because I thought my ears may start to bleed. 1/5
Not quite
All the songs sound the same, with that terrible, warbly voice and far-too-quiet instrumentation. Wanted to turn it off.
this really bored me, I'll be honest i have already forgotten this album
Nope
Nice voice. Typical 60s female singer. Not my deal. Now that I’m through this it’s horrible. The lyrics mean nothing.
I don't know if there is some sort of cultural significance to this album. Was it cutting edge? Why? 1/5
Was a bit grumpy when I listened but I actually hated it so much
There were decent moments where she sounded like a decent jazz singer. Then, there was a whole bunch of show choir singing that ruined it. It was mostly the latter.
Vocals are discordant. Unpleasant.
I like a lot of the stuff that this album inspired but unfortunately I didn't like this album. It was like listening to a Glee cast album. Not for me
Her voice is like a gang of squirrels gang banging a didgeridoo.
Wow! Laura made some choices here!!! Arguably too many!!!! Yikes!!!
Well, this was obnoxious. I wanted to like this, but by the end of the album, her voice was so grating that I was quickly losing my patience with it. Boring, unmemorable songs and a shrill voice. Ugh.
meh
That was hard, her voice did my head in. Show tube shrill
i was not expecting to have such a visceral reaction to this. The music might actually be pretty good (each song features a lot of unexpected tempo and stylistic changes), but I can't tell because the singer won't shut up for even a second to let the music breathe. if i didn't hate the sound of her voice, it might not have bothered me so much, but, well. are we sure this isn't an SNL skit?
Ok
Nope, don’t like her voice at all. This one is not made for me.
Man there’s barely 3 seconds where this lady isn’t yapping. The songs are annoying. Not for me.
Shrieking, disco-stank, blue-eyed soul? Gross. Nyro's complete inability to sing a melody line without stumbling all over the scale like a drunkard on a boat? Angering. The fact that this was included on the list and we are therefore obliged to sit through 45 minutes of wailing nonsense? Criminal.
Nope. Hate it.
Nyro manages to demonstrate an impressive lack of musical talent on this uninteresting, inartistic, inoffensive, and technically unimpressive album. It is certainly music, but Nyro does not have the actual musical abilities to make anything on the album sound good. I probably wouldn't be jumping to turn the music off if I heard this album again, but I definitely won't be listening to it again any time soon.
Wikipedia gives the genre as Blue-Eyed Soul / Folk Jazz and I would agree. Laura Nyro has a great voice but the album is boring.
Per me, inascoltabile!
I'm not gonna lie, Nyro's voice irritates the hell out of me. Some of the lyrics are not bad, but that voice and the sort of jazz derived rhythms are grating and difficult. It's like a completely opposite take to someone like an Eva Cassidy whose voice is in a very similar notal range and jazz derived style, but instead is completely soothing, lush, powerful, and gorgeous. In short, I can see why Nyro never was met with the success that she felt she deserved. Now do yourself a favor and listen to Cassidy absolutely NAILING a jazz standard: https://open.spotify.com/track/3k42wvwwogIJyZ4HK5YswY?si=bf6e381748e7423a
not my thing again
This feels like the album wants to be jazz but is afraid to try. It's blues, I guess, but I don't think that the genre choice was intentional, and in my opinion, that really hurts it. If they were intentional about their style and sound this might be good, but it is just meh. Eli's Coming puts the train back on the tracks, so to speak, but I'm already pretty checked out.
Not for me. Interesting but wobbly vocals.
Truly annoying.
Flat
Gudars skymning vilket tråkigt album.
Trina: “she’s awful what’s wrong with her voice” Utter shite Couldn’t finish it
Too Folksy(?) if that's the right term. Not for me, sorry Miss Nyro.
A shrieking mess. Barely listenable. Must admit I nearly gave up on this one
Good God help me. Was begging for this to end. Such a shrill voice. Like Joni Mitchell on crack. Singing high and loud does not automatically mean good. Hard pass
This one was not good
Miinusta sanoituksista.
This album was definitely not for me. I did not enjoy it. Instrumentally, there were some interesting songs. The lyrics and the vocals were off-putting.
Has moments but they’re fleeting. Feels like background music for a coffee shop
Sounds like Carole King or Joni Mitchell but with none of the talent or charm.
Jazzy, voice goes up and down constantly and it’s just not my taste
This is the ultimate try too hard album. An aural assault.
Just about the worst thing ever.
Absolutely grating! Guess tastes are really subjective, I simply cannot enjoy the vocals, quite the opposite. Sounds dreadful to me. Had to turn it off pretty soon.
No.
Album about ex lovers
Oei neje
Didn’t really get this. Late sixties singer-songwriter stuff. The doo-wop one was pleasant but the rest didn’t do anything for me.
Long forgotten. Should have remained so.
no
Nope.
This reminded me a lot of Joni Mitchell and Carole King: neither of whom I like at all. There was only one song where Laura wasn't forcing her singing to a level of intensity that didn't match the music. A meandering mess.
Not my thing.
Carole King wannabe
I imagine that she’s constantly winking as she performs. Pass
No ty
nope
mærkelig sing/songwriter, country, Pj harvisk
no
0/5 why you do this to me
Honestly don’t understand how this was selected - but then I’ve always hated this kind of tripe - fuck the 60s
This is one of three albums I get to listen to on an island in hell. Things that sound better: Open mouthed pork rind crunching on a public bus, mosquito stuck in your ear canal and the always reliable fingers on a blackboard. I tried to find something good about this cloying 70sesque drivel, but not much here. The opening seconds of “Poverty Train” we’re ok.
Well she has a good singing voice but her campy, bouncy jazzy pop style was really grating and annoying to me. I couldn’t get thru this one
Worst one so far. My brain hurts from trying to listen to it
This I hate.
I think there's a reason this never really gained popularity... Nyro is clearly talented vocally but her songwriting is just not that good and it sounds like show tunes, which is kind of insufferable. Really campy. I can't finish the album :/
jazzy; yllättävän hyvä, mut silti vähän tylsä; ei yhtään biisii, jonka kuunteleminen ois ärsyttäny
