Sounds like an influence of Oasis
Way too experimental for my tastes. Not only did many parts feel extremely harsh, but the mixing is some of the worst I've seen so far. Incredibly big jumps from quiet music to deafening
Saddled up and riding to any direction. 1993 with Giant Steps as well as 2023 with "Eight". No idea, why's on the 1001 list. Clear 0 Points.
# 304 : sigh! Just reading the 3 line bio put me off… this was pretty awful, I feel like sometimes this list mistakes "you must listen to this ALBUM before you die" with "Hey this was popular once, or had a couple hits on it" with importance. If You Want It, Take It was an alright track.
Nope.
Really? The Boo Radleys? Who had one good song in the early 90s? Okaaaay. ..... And their one good song isn't even on this album! Actually listening to this. It's a mixed bag. Some of their tracks are actively unpleasant (leaves and sand, thinking of ways, spun around, run my way runway) and others are nice upbeaty pop tracks (Barney (...and me)) - but saying that, even the nice upbeat ones have way too much screeching guitar and would have been better being a minute or so shorter. Overall, I think this is far more unpleasant than pleasant. And as such, it can do one.
It took giant steps to get through this album
I didn't like this at all
this was bearable for 6 or 7 songs and then I just couldn't keep on listening. sorry
Yuck
Another reason the music of the 90s was soooo boring. There was nothing original here.
The singer is Okay but in combination with the instruments it's somehow not a good match for me. It's also kinda boring album.
Two songs in and I’m painfully bored. This is the kind of band I wouldn’t listen to back in the 90s. There’s nothing going on here. It’s copies of other artists. A lot of trying and not succeeding. The guitar on Barney and Me is a rip off of The Cure’s Close to Me. And then they piled a bunch of shit on top of it. Can’t get through a full song. This is very boring.
1/5. I don't know what it is about shoegaze but it just isn't for me. The mix of quiet vocals and sudden bursts of sound feels so jarring, and the high pitched feedback doesn't help either. This honestly just hurt to listen to. Even the slow songs without loud sounds was just boring. Maybe I'm getting old but this was not enjoyable, I don't even remember most of the songs, I was just annoyed and waiting for it to be over.
Some good songs. Not impressed.
I just don't get Shoegaze, and I don't remember the early 1990s being that depressing.
Nicht meine Richtung
So bad.
Should I expect to see Treble Charger on this list?
well. I don't really know what this was.
whoever mixed this should be shot
Couldn’t make it through two tracks
Jostain syystä ajattelin, että tässä saattaisi olla kivoja nuoria kavereita, jotka tekevät iskeviä biisejä hyvällä biitillä. Olivatkin nuoria kavereita, joille kokeilevuus on itseisarvo.
2 Eh 1
oh this is garbage! nothing about this was interesting or revolutionary. i even kind of find it offensive that a band of mostly white guys called themselves the boo radleys and created a song named "rodney king." i'm honestly confused on how anyone can call this music. some of it wasn't terrible, but a good chunk was made up of random sounds that don't sound good together. what? also, 64 minutes of this nonsense was 64 minutes too long, yes, but for real this album dragged!
Trash. How do albums get on this list?
Strong one should be better than it is
17 songs of just loud noise??? How was this album selected in this list is beyond me.
Well, somebody was trying to sound like Stereolab, weren't they? This album just meandered aimlessly. Sometimes that works for me, sometimes it doesn't. There were some interesting, but fleeting, moments here. This definitely wasn't a boring listen: that's not necessarily a compliment.
The sounds were not pleasant
UGH
Great... More fucking obscure British shoegaze garbage..... Ffs.... Never heard of the Boo Radleys before, and hope to forget them quickly. They are, as my first comment suggests, a shoegaze/brit pop band who has no reason to be on this list. Sounds like they are trying to be like Smashing Pumpkins but are too shitty of artists to come close. If the band didn't canoodle and play random shitty intros/outros, the album could have been done in half the time. Album production is garbage. Music is loud as hell, then when the vocals come in, you can barely hear them. Horns?!? Why?!? They have no place in your depressing shoegaze garbage. And random distorted electrical feedback noises.... An attempt to add psychadelica to this crock pot of horseshit.... Why? Why did they have to do poor Boo Radley dirty like this? Probably to make people think they were artsy and deep, but in actuality they are depressing emo trash. Favourite songs: Take the Time Around, Lazarus, Wish I Was Skinny Least favourite songs: Butterfly McQueen, Run My Way Runway, as well as the rest of this garbage album. Absolutely no redeeming qualities: 1/5
a little to soft for my taste
Far too discordant for my liking.
A truly awful mess of an album. Pick a lane!
Hey what’s that noise?! I remember, It’s terrible music.
An indie album that was uninspiring. Some of the songs needed to end a little earlier than they did. I also had to skip some songs. I was perfectly fine not knowing this album existed let alone listening to it.
Some of the tracks were okay, but overall it just didn't grab me in any meaningful way. It was too disjointed and jarring at times for me.
* Probably give it 1.5 if I could. Dreary, unmemorable.
Mjeh... ekkert spes.
Sounded like Adam Buxton’s songs without the entertainment.
Terrible. Sounded like a piss-take album
Boring music
Don't really get it. Pretty boring stuff.
Unfortunately, the sound goes from too soft to hear to blazingly loud at the drop of a hat. The vocals are often too quiet. At times the sound can just be grating on the ears.
Garbage
Not good
25% decent music, 75% noise.
I’m kind of annoyed to have listened to this in this context. I MUST have listened to this album before I died? Why?! It’s... fine. Actually, to be more specific, it’s completely unremarkable. I can’t remember a single song. Is this really the standard for albums I MUST listen to before I die? An album I LITERALLY do not remember a detail of the following day?
Like early ish indie rock. Tries to be a bit psychedelic at times. Not a fan. Thinking Of Ways was so so bad 😂. Just shite. 1/5
The auditory equivalent of dog shite.
This is my least favorite album yet.
Didn't even finish it.
