I loved this album. Had no idea what the lyrics said, but who cares?

5-Star Albums (54)

All the reasons I like this album are the reasons I dislike this album.
I'm glad this album made one misstep so I don't have to give it a 5-star rating. If you reverse the order of "Sly" and "Vein Melter". As it is, it is only a 4.95-star album. Note: I rounded up.
Sorry. I realize a 2 star rating will upset many people, but Radiohead has always been a snooze fest for me.
I was torn between giving a 4-star vs. a 5-star review. I bounced of Judas Priest throughout my life; I always thought they were a little cheesy. But, giving this album a critical listen, I can see where I was wrong.

Good album. Forgot how much I like R.E.M. However, docking it one star for not really being my genre of music.
I've never listened to this whole album. Not really my thing. But damned if I didn't love it.
Not for me.
Not bad.
Loved this album. I could hear where this album influenced so many other albums.
It just isn't my thing.
To be honest, I had this on while busy. So it didn't get a full, critical listen, but it never jumped to my attention either.
Can't deny the James Taylor's talent. And the album is good, really good. However, it is boring.
Good album. I've just never been the biggest Nirvana fan.
I loved this album. Had no idea what the lyrics said, but who cares?
All the reasons I like this album are the reasons I dislike this album.
Bumping it a star because it is Prince...and that dude has talent. But the album and me just don't see eye to eye.
One of the best albums but the best band.
Didn't like it. Boring.
I couldn't listen to this everyday. But this is an example of genre perfection.
Had some highlights.
I endured this album but it nearly put me to sleep.
Good. Not my thing. But still good.
This album came out when I was getting back into metal. So other than Song #2 I missed it. This was very close to being a 5-star album....the last song wasn't right.
Couldn’t get the whole album on Spotify.
While I'm apparently the oddball and prefer their studio work to their live stuff. I'm just not in the mood for this level of chill in my music right now.
This is probably my favorite Bowie album.
This is an album that I wish I had half-stars for. This is almost a 4 star album. And, if I listened on a different day, in a different mood, it would probably be a 4 star.
I know I listened to it....but can't remember anything about it today. This is "just another 90s style album" to me.
Decent album. But, like many albums on this list, forgettable after the listen.
Couldn't get the whole album. This style of music as never done it for me.
More of that 90s style music I just can't differentiate. Not bad, just bland.
I've never really giving The Rolling Stones the respect they apparently deserve. This album was great.
I don't love disco. Don't really like disco. But damn it! When it comes on, it is impossible to not dance and smile.
I've never listened to Amy Winehouse before. Sadly. Her voice is amazing. The song writing was great. This was just a great album.
Well, this was a surprise. I'd likely never pull this album off my shelf and play it, but it was compelling, interesting, and entertaining.
This is so close the being a 5-star album. I don't really like The Beatles, and that is the only thing keeping me from 5-star. So, what the hell....
A classic. So many good songs.
I don't like gazing. Especially staring at my shoes.
I forgot how much I love Morrissey. This isn't even my favorite album.
Like the voice
I need to listen to Rush more often.
Boring and a tad pretentious
This album caught me on a good day. I was in the mood for something like this. But, as I type this, I realize the album was largely forgettable.
This isn’t really my style of music, but it dos fit into a morning work routing nicely.
Run off the mill
Just one of the greatest.
That voice!
Not my thing
Basically started a new genre. 🤘🤘
Just not my thing.
I owe this a relisten
Would give this a half star if it was an option. I could hear a lot of similarities to other bands I like in this. Also a lot of weirdness I did t really like.
Might not be my thing.....but can’t deny how good it is.
Disc 1 was more enjoyable than disc 2.
Dude could sing!
Dude could sing!
Had some great moments. But a lot of duds too.
I just don’t get this type of music.
More of a Richard album than a Jeff album
Listening to this album makes me wonder what the hell happened to rap music.
Just not my thing.
Good but difficult
I always thought this album was a live recording. But reading the wiki taught me something.
Not bad but not their best.
Just not my thing.
Again, just not my thing.
Elvis is Elvis is Elvis.
Another 0 to 5-star album.
Much of this list has been listening to albums that are predecessors to other good music. This album makes me sad for what has become of rap and hip hop. This album is really good.
2.5 rounded up
I wasn’t in the mood for this album. A real good album.
Not a terrible album but all I could think while listening is that most of the talent is with the producer and some of the guest performers.
In another life, I could see this being my type of music. But as it stands, not so much.
Not really my thing, but good none the less.
Maybe not the best album for surgery day....but good nonetheless.
Prog rock. Not as enjoyable as prog metal but I’ll take it.
Loved the second track. Sarah Vaughan's vocals exposed all the flaws in modern R&B vocals.
This was entertaining, better than most country music. But, it is still county music. It is a shame on me that I can't see past that in my score.
Kind of had this on and it melted into my day. Which maybe makes it a good album?
This is a pretty low rating when I think about how fun this album is. There is a lot of energy and fun in this album. But it lacked discipline and was all over the place on time and what not.
If this album had English lyrics, it would be an easy 5-star. Maybe a strange reason to penalize it, but I really wanted to understand what was being sung.
I'm relatively ignorant of Steely Dan but my friends love 'em. This is unquestionably good, but feels too much like "old people rock" for me.
Never listened to much Jeff Beck. Might have to change that after this listen.
Good. I can hear some Housemartins and Beautiful South in here; I wonder if this was an influence.
This was an album from the past for me.
This was like something I'd hear in a cool restaurant while eating a good meal with drinks.
Kind of boring.
Never been a big Oasis fan but this album shows me that I’ve been wrong all this time.
I'm not really a listener of The Temptations, but you can't deny how good they are. This album is just an example of that.
One of the most underrated bands ever. And this isn't even my favorite album.
Just a dime a dozen.
Easy five star album.
Come on it is Miles Davis, what else would I rate it?
This album would have gotten a lot of hours of my time in a previous life. I got some Beck influencing in there.
Neil Young is in the camp of Bob Dylan, Miles Davis, NIN, and Prince.
Not a fan of synth pop. Not in love with the singing. But I did enjoy the lyrics and there were a few head bopping songs.
There are a few tracks like Round and around that are much better than others. I could have seen me given this a third star, but in the end, oh hell, who am I kidding? This is a three star.
I put Beck in the rare air of Miles Davis, Prince, Trent Reznor, and a few others. Creative and talented on a different level.
I've always loved the sounds of sitar and tabla. It sounded so "alien" to me as a kid. Later, when I finally heard this album in its entirety, I loved how it explained why it seemed so "alien". I wish there were other explanation albums in other musical genres.
I think I'm getting too generous with the 5-stars, but this album is so good. "Alabama Song (Whisky Bar)" is my favorite track followed closely by "The End". Then you have the hits, of course.
Good songwriting. But, other than the title track, a little bland.
I dock this one star because it was a bad version of a live album. Edited wrong
Favorite track: Madman Across the Water. But this whole album is good. Not a huge Erin John fan, but respect is owed.
Some really good. Some really bad. A solid 3 star album.
I was going to take a star away just because this isn't my favorite Beastie Boys album. However, it has been a while since I've pulled this album from the shelf, and I may have been wrong. This might just by my favorite Beastie Boys album.
I can't lie, I'm biased against Green Day. I rather like this album. But, I just can't get past all the discussions I had with people describing punk music and why Green Day, is not punk. I know, I'm shallow.
Hard to review and album when the whole thing isn’t available.
I was torn between giving a 4-star vs. a 5-star review. I bounced of Judas Priest throughout my life; I always thought they were a little cheesy. But, giving this album a critical listen, I can see where I was wrong.
Sorry. I realize a 2 star rating will upset many people, but Radiohead has always been a snooze fest for me.
Didn't hate it. It was almost a nice, uptempo, listen in the background album.
Nothing much to say other than “nope, not for me.”
I can't help think that groups like Arrested Development were strongly influenced by this. So good. So creative.
This album clawed its way from a one star.
Firmly in the camp of good but not my thing.
If there were fractional stars, this would've been a 3.5.
This was close to getting the 5th star. I remember listening to this album in 1990 at band camp. Then, maybe 6 or so years later hearing singles from it on the radio like it was something new. Such a good album.
The drums! The composition! So much good....but a lot of "this isn't jeff"
This was close to getting the 0 to 5 star treatment.
So good.
I think The White Noise Revisited cost them a star.
I don't fully understand post-punk. But this album had a lot of cool elements to it.
I'm glad this album made one misstep so I don't have to give it a 5-star rating. If you reverse the order of "Sly" and "Vein Melter". As it is, it is only a 4.95-star album. Note: I rounded up.
Feel a little strange rating this album so low.
I’m not that big of a pop music fan, but Michael Jackson is just great. I was going to rate this album a 3 just because, compared to the higher rated Thriller, I needed to offset this album. It just isn’t as good and has a few stinkers like Speed Demon. However, this album has one of my favorite songs of all time: Man in the Mirror. So I got to give it love.
I think this album is playing with my emotions. It has moments of "yeah, I dig it" and then they destroy all that optimism. The Sad Skinnhead pulled this album up to a two-star review.
I could listen to this album all day. Best in class.
Had to go to find a playlist on YouTube for this one.
This wasn't what I expected. I thought I knew what The Pogues were. I was wrong.
Getting hints of The Cure and The Smiths...which is unsurprising.
This album is weird. The synth stuff sometimes is great other times annoying. I like the diversity in the tracks.
I like this style of music on occasion and this is an album of the genre I like. I like the concept behind it and the tracks were easy to work to.
This album has one of my favorite songs of all time.
Very progressive.
So much nostalgia with this album. This was the album that opened up industrial metal to my listening. But, I never returned to it much. That's probably going to change now.
I shouldn't assume my childhood tastes are the same as my adult tastes. I went into this with memories of childhood listens and the thought "Okay 3-stars, let's get this over with". I was so wrong. I'm toying with the idea of giving this a 5-star, but it isn't quite perfect.
I really like the "groovy funk" feel of songs like Middle Man. Then the heavy drums of songs like Desperate People. Seems weird to me that as much as I loved Cult of Personality in my youth and the rest of my life, I don't think I ever heard this whole album before. And lots of powerful lyrics like in Which Way to America.
Good lyrics. Good vocal. Good talent. Just not my thing.
Nope.
I find ambient, electronic music slightly less annoying than other electronic music.
Even though this album has Kashmir, this is probably my least favorite Led Zeppelin album. But the least favorite among greatness is still great!
Before yesterday I had never listened to this entire album. I probably won't listen to it again. Just not my thing. But, good nonetheless.
This must be what elevator music in India is like.
More of a 3.5-star album. Fun but a little flat.
Lenny Kravitz is not the artist I thought he was. This album was a lot different than the radio stuff of his I heard.
Boring. Just not my thing.
A classic
A lot more than the one not wonder I thought they were.
Better than I remember. More theatrical.
Good musically. Great vocally. Lyrics left me a little flat.
One of my favorite albums of all time.
This album didn’t age well for me.
More of a 3.5 rounded down
I didn't hate it, but the vocals were nerve grating.
3.5 stars rounded up
Probably more of a 4.25 album, but it gets bonus points for MAIDEN! and then I round it up.
This is a 3.5 album that I choose to round up because it is Elvis!
This had some really good song writing.
This might be the "best" Slipknot album, but it isn't my favorite. Also, I acknowledge I am too old to like Slipknot as much as I do.
Just not my thing.
Never heard of this album. Deserves future listens.
This style of music I just bounce off. I know Kraftwerk is influential and all, but I just can't get into it.
Great songwriting and vocals.
I first thought this album was country, and it isn't. It is blues.
I used to have a lot of thoughts on this band back in the days of the radio station 99x. Not so many these days. Enjoyable, but this sound was a recipe.
I listened. I couldn't tell you anything about it.
Lots of really good vocals.
Liked the music; a little funky. The lyrics were forgettable.
I'm probably being too harsh on this album, but it did nothing for me.
I couldn't do it.
I just can't.
Reminds me of my days at the roller rink.
Probably more of a 3.5.
This album is so good. I’m only docking it for preference points. As a metal head, it is a little too soulful for me. Regardless, I loved this album.
This was a blast from the past. I listened to The Cars a lot when I was a youngster. This album is actually older than I thought.
This album has me welling up with tears on so many tracks. I'm not sure if Well Meet Again is supposed to be a happy, hopeful song, but I know this version of it makes me tear up. So many tracks on this album are emotional. I know Hurt got a lot of deserved attention, but tracks like First Time Ever I Saw Your Face and Danny Boy are equally great and emotional.
Music is a 4 or 4.5. Lyrics are a 2 on so many tracks.
I thought I was going to hate it.
I mean, he is the King of Pop.
Meh
I wasn't in the mood for this album. I will be generous and round it up due to our history together.
About half way through this album I was going to give this album 3 stars on the vocal talent alone; the second half changed all of that. Tracks like “Mbube” and “The Nasty Little Flea” filled this album out nicely.
I've been unfair to Arcade Fire. Based on this album, they are not what I thought they were. They are outside of my wheelhouse these days, but in my other life, when I was listening to Morrissey, The Smiths, Beautiful South, etc this would've been one of my favorite albums.
Something about the guitar on this album....
Country music the way I like country music.
It is impossible to deny the talent of Taylor Swift. It is equally difficult to deny how good the entirety of this album is.
Just not my thing.
I’m not old enough for this album to be nostalgic for me but, nevertheless, listening to this has triggered memories of my childhood. Regardless this is a fun album of folksy, cowboy songs. I like it.
I love this album so much.
So much fun.
Great voice. Good songwriting. Just a little too mellow.
I'm probably operating this album. I'm not a big fan of his style of music, but this album had a couple tracks that hit.
This was a fun album
This is what I think about when I think about hip hop.
I’m shocked. While not my thing in many, many ways, this album is actually quite good. I’d heard the singles released from this before…..I mean what American hasn’t? And used those to prejudge the album. Not aa incorrect assessment for style and taste, but this album most certainly doesn’t suck.
Almost a 3 star until they pulled out the Moog.
My least favorite type of jazz.
Come on! It is Aretha Franklin! ‘Nuff said.
Morrissey is at his vocal best on this album. They have decent songwriting but not their best.
I really don’t know how to rate this album. I had no idea what he was saying, and I know nothing about the genre to compare it to. So it gets two stars for the amazing voice and two stars for making me feel like I was on vacation while listening.
I normally like concept albums, but most of those are progressive rock albums. This album felt like one of the critics, and I'm not a critic.
Creative, but not really my sort of thing.
Sometimes I forgot there was on Iron Maiden before the Iron Maiden I know. This is good but such a different sound than what I came to love 'em for.
This album makes me realize I'm getting old, and that age is tainting my opinions on music. Granted, that album wouldn't have ever been an album for me; her voice is fine, but everything else….from the beats to the lyrics, is tedious. However, I judged the lyric contents harsher than anything I listened to; that was much worse. So, I'm old...stay off my lawn!
Probably more of a 4.5 album.
Not my favorite Metallica album, but maybe their best.
Probably better than the 3 stars I'm giving it; I'm just not in the mood for this style of music today.
3 stars for the producing. 1 star for the feel and vibe. Subtract half star for inconsistent lyrics. Round down for some language choice.
This is borderline punk. Bad punk. This just isn't my genre.
Every time I hear Gil Scott-Heron I learn a little bit about something.
Again, an album that makes me realize I’ve crossed into the “get off my lawn” category of people. But, when compared to older music from the same genre, this just doesn’t hold up. The beats and grooves were fine, excellent actually, but the lyrics were terrible.
If you ever need deskercise, put this album on.
The vibrato thing really ruined so much of this.
This album is what I would've hoped from yesterday's album. One downside to this album it takes a more concentrated listen to do the lyrics justice. And that is something I didn't have the ability to give it today.
Didn’t enjoy this album as much as I expected. Still pretty damned good.
C’mon. This is one of the best albums ever.
Probably the best 2 star album I’ll review.
Beats are good. Vocal talents is good. I bet if this was in English I'd like it a lot more.
Top notch vocal. The music, however, is far outside of my wheelhouse. It is that type of music that is so bland.
An earlier version of me approves of this album.
Couldn’t get the entire album.
Funky. I liked it, but it had a few moments where the scratching seemed wrong.
