The 13 year old girl in me wanted to give this a 5 star rating BUT the ears on that same girl 40 years later said "fuck that was terrible". One of us did not hold up well

I couldn’t get on board with this one. I’m not a fan of a lot of 80’s music in any case, but OMD doubled-down and played right into all of the 80’s stereotypes I don’t like with this album.

# 594 : Architecture And Morality Architecture and Morality – More Like Wallpaper and Passivity This album is very ordinary. Nothing special, nothing memorable. Some tracks are okay, some are just there, and the whole thing feels like it’s trying to be profound while slowly lulling you into a nap. It’s drawn out and boring—slow enough to forget it’s even on. The 80s synth pop here is fine, but if you’ve heard one, you’ve heard them all. OMD doesn’t do much to stand out from the melodramatic crowd. In all seriousness, does anybody still listen to this? If you haven’t heard anyone mention this album in the last 25 years, you probably don’t need to hear it before you die. Best Track (if you must): Georgia – and even that’s like picking the least soggy crouton from a bowl of synth soup. Verdict: ★ for effort. File under “albums that sound like a fax machine trying to feel emotions.”

Pretty chill rainy day listen. Very typical 80s music imo. Stereo mixing was fun but nothing overall complex. Probably won’t ever listen to this again.

What is the British fascination with mediocre new wave/electronica? At least prog rock bands can play instruments (not that it makes their self-grandurizing noise more pleasant to listen to, but they have put effort into it). Many others, far more articulate than me (glances at Neil Young), have explained how the shift from analogue to digital and the proliferation of the synthesizer and keyboard have done more damage to music and music culture than about anything else in history, so that's all I'll say on that here. This album itself is just so damn boring. The entire pooled musical "talent" of this band amounts to a dude that sounds like Robert Smith. That's it; that's the highlight. I honestly couldn't tell when one song ended and the next began. I get that this was recorded when synthesizers and the like were new and exciting, but just because you can doesn't mean you should. No hits, negative influence, and it bored me to tears.

Nope! Don't know what this was, 3 songs in, 80s jazz is how id describe it.

What a load of nothing, the first few tracks have some ok moments, but after that it turns really boring. It's synth-pop without any pop. It's doing a worse version of what bands like Kraftwerk and Ultravox did before them. I never really enjoyed the major hit they had and I didn't like listening this album when I got it on LP from a large collection. I'd be fine with never listening to this again, I'd want to never listen to it.

And there was me thinking I had a soft spot for OMD. This album is utter toss. You’ve got a bloke with weak vocals and some of the most agonisingly basic synths and beats I’ve ever heard. Compared to what Eno was doing before and around the same time (which are on this list), this feels like some child has put it together. If simplicity is the supposed charm, for me they’ve just taken it to the extremes of minimalist tedium. Toss I say.

119/1089 - I don't care how influential this was to synth pop. I'm not rating midi saxophone above 1 star. The other songs on the album were also awful. In order to not make my 1 star notes too negative, I decided I'm gonna recommend albums I like that aren't on the list (like my Charlatans note). Toto - Toto (1978) A band of solid session musicians making some cool genre-blending songs (mainly rock, pop, soul, some synth stuff). Some stand out songs are "I'll Supply The Love" "Georgy Porgy" and "Hold the Line" but I like pretty much every song on this album.

I don't remember here I first heard it, but there's a saying that media can be good or bad, but the worst sin a piece of art can commit is to be boring. Listening to this hour of interminable samey electronica almost-music, there were multiple points where I looked at the queue and thought "Jesus, is this still not over?"... So no, I can't recommend this.

Part of me feels it's unfair to give this one a 1. It didn't necessarily sound bad, but it was so unbelievably boring. Considering I didn't enjoy a single track, I have no other choice.

heu je sais pas pourquoi mais j'y arrive pas il y a beaucoup d'efforts sur la manière de produire mais en même temps je trouve que ça ne fonctionne pas il y a des bonnes idées mais je trouve que c'est mal exécuté. Le manière de chanter pourrait passer, mais on dirait quelqu'un qui fait un karaoké tout seul chez lui. Je trouve que l'entièreté du projet a mal vieilli. C'est une bonne idée d'expérimentation mais je prends pas. Trop inégal

This band has some great tracks but this album ain't got none

Never heard of OMD, but this album was released Nov 8 1981, one day after I was born, so I was optimistic and hopeful I would love this. Overall very underwhelming, didnt really enjoy at all. Definitely some quintessential 80s beats, but other than that, ready to move on.

I really tried to get through it...I failed. I'm sure there's an audience out there for this. I am not it.

An entire album where almost nothing notable happens at all. Yay.

Not an album I would’ve listened to on my own, and one I’ll probably never listen to again. Sounded like it could’ve been in the background of a John Hughes movie set in a high school in Anytown, Illinois.

Hoş değildi, bu albüm kapağını, grubun ismini falan görünce daha psychedelic+dreamy bir şeyler beklemiştim:( Yapay seslerin permütasyon -kombinasyon yapar gibi bir araya getirilmesiyle oluşturulan müziklerden çok hoşlanmıyorum (lyricler iyiyse ve beat'i güzel bir şekilde unique ise işler değişir tabi ki). Bu albüm de öyleydi denebilir, répétition vardı gibi hissettim ve yeni bir tarz falan yaratmaya çalışırken çok yapay bir müzik yapmışlar grup olarak, bazı kısımları gerçekten rahatsız etti. Overall : 4/10

p476. 1981. 1 star. Dreary and soulless synth pop. This is the soundtrack to every dull grey wet Tuesday in Liverpool in Thatcher's Britain. Most the album is the band farting about with synths on songs that outstay their welcome - who the fuck needs a 7 minute "moody" instrumental, it's like punk never happened, eh lads? And what the fuck is the album title about? Pretentious wankers.
