Incredible Bongo Band
2/5
Sounded like crazy elevator music or tv show themes from the 70s.
The Residents
1/5
Awful. 1st album I stopped before the end. Juvenile, discordant, repetitive. Just unlistenable.

The Cure
3/5
Just ok. Sounds like he’s crying the lyrics.
Nirvana
5/5
More familiar with this album. Better than I remembered. Full of bangers except the last song.
Public Enemy
3/5
Not a genre I usually listen to but was impressed even though I only recognized a song or 2. Liked it better than the Cure. Should have given that 2 stars.
ZZ Top
4/5
Other than the MTV songs didn’t know this album very well but it thought it was a pretty good mix of bluesy rock. Forgot about TV Dinners. Good video for that one too.
Ray Charles
2/5
Wanted to hear some more blues but this sounded a bit too big band for me.
Sarah Vaughan
2/5
Not my genre. Sounded very piano bar / lounge singer to me. She did sound great but not what I listen to. Highlight for me was hearing just a gigolo.
Stephen Stills
2/5
Just ok. All over the map. Very 70s sounding. Sounded like b-sides and way too long.
Neil Young & Crazy Horse
2/5
Not a huge fan of Neil Young’s voice. Cinnamon Girl’s alright but the rest of the album is somewhat forgettable. At least it’s shorter than the Stills’ album.
Talking Heads
2/5
Not a huge talking heads fan. His jacket doesn’t fit.
Eagles
5/5
Awesome album. Great song after great song.
The United States Of America
1/5
Did not like this album and couldn’t understand why each song had multiple bad versions.
3/5
U2 was huge in the 80s and 90s but I was never that into them. This album epitomizes them for me. The first 3 songs were singles and were everywhere when the album came out. Listening to the start of the album I was thinking 5 stars. But the rest of the album is just ok.
Muddy Waters
4/5
Was never exposed to much Blues but I liked this. Not sure if I’d listen every day but can appreciate the history and influence on other music.
Alexander 'Skip' Spence
2/5
Wish I hadn’t listened past the ten songs. The first part was ok. Seemed like he changed his voice for every song.
XTC
3/5
Not sure who I was thinking of but I thought XTC was a hip hop band. This album was not bad considering I didn’t expect it. Some songs seemed like 69s sons. 1 song could have been a James Bond them. Interesting.
Nirvana
3/5
Ok. Not as good as Nevermind, or maybe I just wasn’t in the Nirvana mood yesterday.
Tracy Chapman
4/5
Love her voice. Fast Cars is one of my favourite songs ever. Liked a lot of songs on this album.
Thelonious Monk
3/5
Not a jazz guy but I didn’t mind this. Not something I’d listen to all the time but might be good for background music.
Pet Shop Boys
2/5
First track says it all for me. ‘Being Boring.’ I couldn’t tell one song from another and all I could think of listening to the drum machine was that it sounded like Tenny on his keyboard.
Radiohead
3/5
Not bad. Way better than Pet Shop Boys. At least the songs didn’t all sound the same.
Youssou N'Dour
2/5
Interesting. I got Latin and big band vibes mixed with African drums. Not something I’d listen to regularly though.
Carpenters
1/5
Awful. Overproduced saccharine drivel. That ‘Help’ cover is 1 step from being a crime against humanity. The songs sounded like sitcom themes or elevator music.
Dire Straits
4/5
Much better than the last one. Real music by real musicians.
SZA
3/5
I’m not sure I’m the target audience for this music. But to paraphrase Mr. Burns “I’m no music critic but I know what I hate. And I don’t hate this.” Good voice, interesting lyrics, and maybe most importantly every song didn’t sound the same.
Haircut 100
3/5
Never heard of these guys. Got like a new wave / big band jazz vibe from. Not great but not awful.
LCD Soundsystem
2/5
Heavy electronica to start with and I was thinking I did not like it at all. But as the album progressed some songs were a bit more listenable.
Johnny Cash
4/5
I don’t think I’ve ever heard this full album before. Surprised there were a couple of songs I didn’t recognize (Wanted Man, Darlin’ Companion, Starkville City Jail). Also a bit surprised he played San Quentin twice back to back. Still, Johnny is Johnny.
Jeff Beck
3/5
A little before my time so haven’t listened to him much. Solid album.
Dolly Parton
4/5
‘Coat of Many Colours’ was one of Grandma’s favourite songs. A couple of songs I hadn’t heard before but overall a good album.
Curtis Mayfield
3/5
The falsetto threw me off a bit at first, but once I got used to that it turned out to be an ok album.
Marianne Faithfull
3/5
Not bad but nothing really stood out for me on this album.
Run-D.M.C.
4/5
For me this is the first hip hop I heard growing up. The first crossover mainstream rap with Walk this Way. Which also made me aware of Aerosmith for the first time, as I didn’t realize they were still around at the time. Some good songs on here like It’s Tricky.
2/5
I thought only Maiden had 18 minute songs. A little weird and all over the map for me. On a different day in a different mood I might have liked it better.
The Dave Brubeck Quartet
2/5
Jazzy, but not Monster’s Inc. jazzy.
The Temptations
3/5
I liked the first half of the album a lot but it kind of fizzled out in the back end for me.
Suede
2/5
Very middle of the road. No songs jumped out at me as either good or bad. Would not listen to again.
Deep Purple
4/5
Didn’t recognize any of the songs but this was a solid album. Also, their Spotify about the artist is maybe the most creative I’ve ever seen.
Dr. Octagon
3/5
Never heard of this band. Some weird songs and lyrics, but overall it was ok.
Manu Chao
2/5
Very international vibe with Spanish, French and English. Some of it felt Caribbean, some like Enrique Iglesias, though that might have been the Spanish.
Sabu
2/5
Very drum centric. Reminded me of a rawer less produced version of the guy we had a couple of weeks back.
Sex Pistols
2/5
Not a huge punk fan but at first thought this wasn’t as bad as I expected. But then I thought of the SNL skit with Fred Armison and Thatcher and couldn’t listen to the album with any critical detachment after that.
Nanci Griffith
3/5
Reminds me of Emmy Lou Harris or Mary Chapin Carpenter. Never heard of her before but it was pretty good.
Jeru The Damaja
2/5
More Public Enemy than Run DMC. Rawer and more stripped down sound. Interesting lyrics as well but not something I’d probably listen to
Beck
2/5
Not my favourite. Found it a bit boring.
Siouxsie And The Banshees
2/5
Again with the semi punk sound. Too much discord for my liking.
Ozomatli
2/5
I’d never heard of this band. All over the map on this album with Latin, rap, with maybe some reggae thrown in. In the end though just ok for me.
Beatles
4/5
Finally a recognizable band with solid music. Not my favourite Beatles album, but still the Beatles.
The Who
4/5
Only had heard Pinball Wizard before but I really liked the overall album. Good concept album and good music. Can’t wait to compare it to The Elder when it comes up.
Michael Jackson
4/5
Singles on this album were all time classics. The rest was just ok. One of the 11 cassettes I got from Columbia house for a penny when I was a kid.
The Jesus And Mary Chain
3/5
Heard of the band but didn’t recognize any of the songs. Not too bad though.
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
4/5
Solid debut album.
David Crosby
3/5
The Psychedelic Furs
2/5
Not a fan. Never liked his voice.
Sly & The Family Stone
3/5
Peak 70s music. Funky and catchy. A couple of songs were more easy listening but I liked the funky ones better.
Tears For Fears
4/5
Liked this better than I expected. The hits were good but surprisingly the rest of the album wasn’t bad either.
Incredible Bongo Band
2/5
Sounded like crazy elevator music or tv show themes from the 70s.
Supertramp
4/5
Good album all the way through. Classic 70s rock.
The Clash
3/5
Pretty good. A couple of tracks where it seemed the vocals were downplayed a bit, i.e. too quiet compared to the music. Still surprisingly it was better than I expected.
Le Tigre
2/5
Female singer had a yelly annoying voice and the male was worse. The songs were juvenile sounding lyrically, almost like they were written for an SNL skit. Not great.
Queen
3/5
Rush
4/5
Not a big Rush fan but this was better than I thought. Great music and Lee’s voice wasn’t as annoying as usual.
Gang Starr
2/5
Punny band name was the best part of the album.
The Fall
1/5
An awful album. Every song was so repetitive, both lyrically and musically. Give a group of 10 year olds a month and they could come up with a better album, even if they didn’t know how to play instruments.
Beatles
4/5
Great album. Lots of good songs.
Beatles
4/5
I liked this even better than the previous Beatles album.
Deerhunter
2/5
Weird and different, but not in a good way. Did not like the opening song at ad ll, and it didn’t really improve from there.
Donald Fagen
3/5
Very easy listening, soft rock vibes, but not in a bad way. Surprised this guy is from Steely Dan, since I’m not a fan of theirs but I didn’t mind this.
Iggy Pop
3/5
Didn’t mind this album at all.
Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young
3/5
Interesting album. 70s vibes with a wide range. Some country rock and some songs that could have been lifted from Sgt Pepper’s movie.
Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan
2/5
Very upbeat vibes. Songs seemed a bit long and repetitive though.
The White Stripes
4/5
Very good album. Interesting lyrics, musically diverse. Fun to listen to.
Tina Turner
4/5
Great singles and the rest of the album was pretty good as well.
Mercury Rev
2/5
Never heard of this band before. Some experimental music, but not too impressive overall.
Iron Maiden
5/5
Now we’re talking. Classic album. 3 good songs, 3 great songs and 3 all timers. Also 3 iconic intros. One of my favourite albums ever.
The Rolling Stones
3/5
Outside of the singles just okay I thought.
Super Furry Animals
2/5
A bit weird at times. Would probably have liked to hear them sing it all in Welsh.
Elbow
3/5
Again, never heard of this band before. Some interesting parts musically and lyrically.
The Kinks
3/5
Not what I was expecting from the Kinks. Very 60s feel for this album. Fun, unserious vibe.
Richard Hawley
2/5
Easy listening / adult contemporary feel. Not bad but that last instrumental song lasted forever and sounded like church music gone wrong.
Blur
2/5
Just didn’t like this album. Not sure why.
Bruce Springsteen
4/5
Not my favourite Boss album but a good one nonetheless.
Blondie
4/5
Was better than I thought it was going to be. Interesting mix of older 60s style pop and newer 70s / 80s music with some great singles.
Jerry Lee Lewis
1/5
Best thing about this album was it was short. Crappy covers mixed with a few mediocre hits performed live just ain’t doing it for me.
Sonic Youth
2/5
Very discordant and shouty at times. Not real pleasant to listen to.
The Smiths
3/5
Better than I expected. Some interesting songs and lyrics.
Johnny Cash
5/5
Excellent album. Covers with his own spin that totally suit his voice and style.
Led Zeppelin
4/5
First time hearing the full album. Solid outside the hits.
The Smiths
2/5
The Clash
2/5
A little too much punk for my taste.
Tori Amos
2/5
Not much here. Nothing offensive but also nothing inspiring. Just blah.
Lloyd Cole And The Commotions
2/5
Never heard of this band and I can see why. I could have copy and pasted my last review. Britpop that you couldn’t pick out of a lineup.
Solomon Burke
3/5
This album was pretty good. Not my favourite genre but he sang with passion.
Goldfrapp
2/5
Again, never heard of this artist. It was a weird adult pop / easy listening vibe that didn’t appeal to me at all.
Dusty Springfield
3/5
Old school girl pop. Not bad, though some songs like Mockingbird were very repetitive. 50s / 60s feel for sure.
The Beach Boys
3/5
Never listened to a lot of Beach Boys. Ok, but i probably was expecting more.
Stevie Wonder
2/5
Not my genre. Just couldn’t get into it. He’s obviously tremendously talented but I didn’t recognize much and didn’t really like it. Plus the album was way too long.
Dion
2/5
This album was long. It seemed about 3 or 4 hours.
Small Faces
2/5
A lot of weird talking and musical choices. Reminded me more of a Monty Python album than a real band. Not sure if I believe Spotify when they say this band rivalled the Stones and the Who.
John Lennon
3/5
I was expecting more but outside of ‘Imagine’ I thought it was just ok.
Booker T. & The MG's
3/5
Heard of this band but didn’t realize all the music was instrumental. Not bad though.
Radiohead
2/5
A little too experimental and weird for me.
The Modern Lovers
1/5
Lyrics written by a 7th grader, annoying vocals, and basic music do not make for a good album.
Dire Straits
4/5
Finally a good album. One song kept it from a 5 star rating. Everything else on the album was great.
Sister Sledge
3/5
Very 70s. Aside from the big hit the rest was listenable.
Ramblin' Jack Elliott
4/5
Interesting mix of blues, folk and country. I thought it was pretty good for an older album.
R.E.M.
3/5
Didn’t have any of their biggest hits and the album was fairly nondescript.
Nine Inch Nails
3/5
Some songs weren’t too bad but there was a little too much of that thrash’s, discordant sound in others.
The Black Keys
5/5
Excellent album. No bad songs and 5 or 6 absolute bangers. Their best album among many great ones.
Stevie Wonder
3/5
I liked this better than his other album on here.
The Stone Roses
3/5
Not awful though I could have done without the 10 minute bongo tribute to close out the album.
Goldfrapp
1/5
Not sure what kind of pictures this band has of the author but that’s the only way to explain them having 2 albums on the list let alone one. Combination of bad James Bond song with 80s tv theme show music with whispered vocals in a weird falsetto. Awful.
The Auteurs
3/5
Better than I expected considering it’s Brit pop.
T. Rex
3/5
Pretty solid old school rock album. No song jumped out as a real banger but no no duds either.
Songhoy Blues
3/5
This album wasn’t too bad. Good mix of African rhythms with more modern guitar.
Minor Threat
2/5
Music wasn’t bad and the songs were short, but I got tired of the shouty singer really quickly.
Lenny Kravitz
3/5
A pretty good album. Leans more rock than pop. A couple of good singles as well.
The Band
3/5
Leonard Cohen
3/5
Song writing is great but his voice takes a little getting used to. Also, his picture on the album cover looks like a still from the Godfather.
The Fall
2/5
Started out not bad but got old quickly. A little too discordant and repetitive for me.
Alanis Morissette
4/5
Better than I remembered. A lot of good songs.
R.E.M.
3/5
Pretty good overall. Better than the other R.E.M. album.
Deep Purple
3/5
Not bad for a live album. Considering the poor audio quality and lengthy solos it still had some good songs.
Bert Jansch
4/5
Old school folk. Never heard of the guy but was really impressed.
Marvin Gaye
4/5
Not my typical genre but the quality of this album shines through. Hard not to like it.
Eagles
5/5
Although I’m a fan of the Eagles I’d never listened to this whole album. Outside of the big hits the rest of the album was pretty good and Eagles like.
The Undertones
3/5
Fairly innocuous pop fare. Nothing stood out as great or especially bad.
David Bowie
2/5
A little too experimental for my taste.
2/5
Off the wall and hard to take seriously. Weird cover of satisfaction.
Lauryn Hill
3/5
Outside of my usual listening but interesting album.
The Charlatans
3/5
Brit-popish but not too bad. Surprised I never heard of this band before.
Simon & Garfunkel
3/5
Interesting. Didn’t listen to a lot of Simon and Garfunkel outside of their hits. The old people talking song was a bit weird but everything else was pretty good.
Moby
2/5
I thought it a couple of songs started out ok but they all seemed to quickly devolve into repetitive synth and drum machine crap.
Pet Shop Boys
2/5
Quite mediocre. All the songs sounded the same and again, too much synth.
Beatles
4/5
Nice to have a palate cleanser after all the drum machines with some old school Beatles.
FKA twigs
1/5
Not a fan. Weird music, whispered falsetto vocals. Would not recommend.
Black Sabbath
5/5
All time classic album and one of the most influential bands ever. Over half the songs are legendary. RIP Ozzy.
The Residents
1/5
Awful. 1st album I stopped before the end. Juvenile, discordant, repetitive. Just unlistenable.
Nick Drake
2/5
Very 70s easy listening vibes. Folky with some generic jazz elements thrown in. Just ok for me.
Fatboy Slim
2/5
Repetitive and distracting trying to figure out where the music was sampled from. Thinking “is that the Wizard from Black Sabbath “ is not enough to override “this song is not very good.”
A Tribe Called Quest
3/5
Some old school hip hop. Not my genre but ok.
Sam Cooke
3/5
Interesting live album. Good old time R&B/Soul.
Brian Eno
2/5
Descriptive album title. Says it all. Not bad background music I guess.
Moby Grape
3/5
Wasn’t too bad. Very 60s. Another band I’ve never heard of.
The Isley Brothers
3/5
A Motown adjacent, if not Motown band. There were even a couple of songs I recognized. A bit weird that so many of their songs were called pt 1, pt 2 etc. but overall not bad.
Bruce Springsteen
5/5
Excellent album. True classic. Springsteen’s versatility is on full display. A departure from his other albums but still great.
The Associates
2/5
Weird lyrics and vocals, not great music. Overall I didn’t like this album a great deal.
Simon & Garfunkel
4/5
Even though I’ve never listened to a lot of Simon and Garfunkel their brilliant lyrics and song writing are hard to ignore. I really liked this album.
David Bowie
3/5
A solid album. Not a huge Bowie fan but thi wasn’t alright.
The Beau Brummels
3/5
Sounded a bit British Invasiony but apparently they’re American.
Bob Dylan
4/5
Classic album. I’m slowly becoming more of a Dylan fan. His lyrics are always interesting and require full attention.
DJ Shadow
3/5
Some experimental stuff that wasn’t too bad. A bit long but ok for the genre.
Amy Winehouse
2/5
I don’t think I’ve ever heard her sons before, though I had heard of her. It’s not a genre I usually listen to and found I didn’t like the music or her lyrics for the most part, and her voice became grating after awhile.
The Blue Nile
2/5
A little too emo for me. The singer sounded like he was going to start crying any second.
Tricky
2/5
Weird music mix combined with barely audible vocals for much of the album didn’t impress me.
Fugees
3/5
Better than the last few albums. Maybe a little too much talking on some tracks.
Jurassic 5
3/5
More old school hip hop.
Elvis Costello
3/5
Never listened to Elvis Costello but had heard of him. Very middle of the road stuff for me. Nothing offensive but nothing exciting either.
Elvis Presley
4/5
I don’t think I’ve ever heard any of these songs before. But Elvis is Elvis and I still thought the album was pretty good.
Duran Duran
4/5
Solid album with a couple of absolute bangers. And the videos are excellent too.
Lynyrd Skynyrd
4/5
Good Old School Southern rock. I was impressed with the number of solid tracks on here. Without Freebird I would have given it 5 stars.
The Killers
4/5
An Indie Rock classic. A great mix of heartfelt lyrics and solid music.
N.W.A.
3/5
Original Gangsta Rap. Lyrics were more violent than political like Public Enemy. Never my genre but not too bad.
John Martyn
3/5
Soft rock / easy listening. Again, nothing offensive but nothing stood out either.
Queen
3/5
I was never a huge fan of Queen. This album was fine but there were no big hits on it. Mercury has a great voice and the music is good but it just doesn’t do anything for me.
The Smashing Pumpkins
3/5
Not a bad album with some interesting songs but it seemed to last forever.
Paul Simon
4/5
Hard to go wrong with Paul Simon. Not my go to listen but I liked this album.
Stevie Wonder
2/5
I just can’t get into this genre of music. It just doesn’t appeal to me.
Neil Young & Crazy Horse
3/5
A couple of weird discordant songs but overall pretty solid.
Parliament
3/5
Funky and high energy. I liked it much more than I expected.
Dexys Midnight Runners
3/5
A couple of catchy tunes with a couple weird songs and musical choices mixed in. Overall, pretty good.
TV On The Radio
3/5
Hadn’t heard of this band before but I thought they were not too bad. Good alt rock vibe.
Yes
3/5
Wide range of musical styles in one album. The good songs were good but some of the filler was a little too out there for my taste.
Adele
3/5
Not as impactful as her earlier albums but it’s Adele, so still pretty good.
Paul Revere & The Raiders
3/5
Good 60s pop rock. Good guitar and vocals. I could listen to this again.
Talking Heads
3/5
I was never a big talking heads fan but this album was better than expected. Not as many weird interludes.
The Roots
2/5
Interesting and eclectic. Not my genre but it was not a bad listen.
Metallica
4/5
Great heavy metal album by one of the best bands. A little on the heavy side for my taste but hard to argue with songs like Battery and Master of Puppets.
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
3/5
Some ok songs but the album was way too long.
The Doors
3/5
Outside of the singles it was a bit jazzier/funkier than I expected. Still pretty good.
Nirvana
3/5
Not as good as their other album but still ok.
Ramones
3/5
Short, simple hard driving songs.
The Damned
3/5
Not as discordant as some punk. I didn’t mind it overall.
The Cramps
2/5
More punk, this time with a rockabilly flair. Not my favourite genre. This was a bit boring for me.
Beck
2/5
Kind of generic sounding and boring.
Radiohead
3/5
Again, Radiohead was better than I expected. Vocals are a bit tiresome after a while but musicianship is great.
Pink Floyd
3/5
Classic but I always thought Pink Floyd was a bit overrated.
Lou Reed
2/5
Novelty of his voice wears thin quickly. Some songs weren’t bad but a couple were really awful.
Lorde
3/5
Not as good as her first album but still pretty good.
Nitty Gritty Dirt Band
3/5
Interesting old school country. Lot of behind the scenes cuts and collabs with country legends on classic songs. A little raw but ok.
Laura Nyro
2/5
Kinda all over the map. Lounge singer, R&B, novelty, a bit of pop. None of it was great though.
2/5
Generic, bland Brit pop.
U2
3/5
Not the greatest U2 album. The singles are mid and the rest of the album is not great.
Skepta
2/5
Interesting to hear British rap. A little too much talking knocked down the rating a bit.
Minutemen
2/5
Crazy that this album had 43 songs. Too bad none of them were any good. There were a couple of listenable songs I guess but for the most part is was self indulgent.
MGMT
4/5
Pretty good alt rock. Different voice that somehow straddles the line between interesting and annoying. The hits are good and the filler songs are alright.
Kelela
3/5
Good voice. Alright music for the genre.
Peter Tosh
3/5
Old school reggae. I didn’t recognize any of the songs but they were pretty good.
The Smiths
3/5
Some of the music is ok but the singer sounds likes he’s going to cry.
The Doors
3/5
2nd Doors’ album I believe. Very ‘60s and very Doors.
Blur
3/5
Album was a bit all over the place. Some juvenile sounding stuff, some slower songs, some more poppy. Overall not too bad b
Everything But The Girl
1/5
A cross between elevator music and the soundtrack to a tv movie of the week where one of love interests gets cancer. Borderline unlistenable.
Led Zeppelin
4/5
Classic album by a great band. A bit before my time and I never listened to them too much growing up. Never had any of their albums. But hard to argue with the classics.
Meat Puppets
3/5
Better than I expected. Even recognized some songs. Some punkier songs but some had melodies.
Judas Priest
4/5
Old school metal. I was always more of an Iron Maiden fan but this is a pretty good album from top to bottom.
The Icarus Line
3/5
Never heard of this band but I thought they were a pretty good rock/metal band/grunge band. Good guitar and the singer had a good voice.
Neil Young & Crazy Horse
4/5
Good album with some classic song. I’m not the biggest fan of Young’s vocals but he’s a legend.
The Cardigans
2/5
Kind of soppy sweet pop music. But maybe the most jarring cover I’ve ever heard. Hearing “I am Iron Man” by what sounds like a 12 year old girl huffing helium certainly caught my attention. Not sure whether to add a star or subtract one.
Lucinda Williams
4/5
Good, back to basics country, with strong vocals and none of that nonsense like auto tune.
3/5
Very funky 70s vibe.
Morrissey
2/5
Sounds like he’s about to cry. Kind of a downer to listen to.
Talk Talk
2/5
Bland and vapid pop with boring emo singer.
PJ Harvey
3/5
Kind of whispery and hard to hear the vocals for a few songs. Ok but not my favourite.
David Bowie
2/5
Wasn’t a fan of this album. Don’t mind David Bowie but not this album. I originally thought it may be an early album of his.
Supergrass
2/5
Boring, generic Brit pop. Couldn’t tell one song from another and none good.
Les Rythmes Digitales
1/5
Not my type of music. Could be good but I don’t link the over synthesized, repetitive songs.
Carole King
4/5
Pretty good. A couple of recognizable songs and the rest was solid.
The Rolling Stones
4/5
1st I’ve heard the whole album. Bluesier than I expected. Good album with some classic hits.
Public Enemy
3/5
Classic rap. Not my genre but I appreciate the talent.
The Byrds
3/5
Very 60s album. A bit up and down but overall ok. Middle of the road.
The Velvet Underground
2/5
Some ok songs mixed with some weird stuff. More neven for me than groundbreaking.
Metallica
4/5
Some great songs coupled with some classic Metallica heavy metal. A bit more melodic than previous albums.
Foo Fighters
5/5
I bought this album just before my wedding when it first came out. Loved it then and love it now.
The Temptations
3/5
Good old Motown album. A couple of different sounding signs but overall had that Motown feel.
Morrissey
2/5
I find the vocals whiny and depressing.
Motörhead
4/5
Apart from Ace of Spades I didn’t know this album, or much of their catalogue. I really liked it. Heavy but not overwhelming.
The Mars Volta
3/5
Wasn’t expecting much but I didn’t mind this.
Steely Dan
2/5
Never liked Steely Dan and this album didn’t do anything to change my opinion. Didn’t even have any of their good songs.
Taylor Swift
3/5
Not as familiar with her later stuff but I thought this was not too bad.
Orbital
1/5
I did not like this album. Repetitive and annoying at parts. Feels like something a 10 year old could have made with a mixing app.
Beastie Boys
3/5
Solid Beastie Boys. Not my favourite album of theirs but ok.
Sleater-Kinney
2/5
The vocals were too high and shrill and the music wasn’t too great either.
The Adverts
2/5
Not great. Juvenile and boring.
Mudhoney
2/5
Not as good as Nirvana or Soundgarden. Too inconsistent and too many weird interludes.
The Cars
5/5
Didn’t realize how good this album was. Singles are straight bangers. Rest of the album was really good as well. Great lyrics, great vocals, great music.
Solange
2/5
I’m pretty sure I’m not the target audience but I did not really like this album. The music seemed generic, the talking interludes were weird. Not a fan.
The Bees
2/5
It felt like 70s elevator music mixed with a kids’ tv show theme. Not good at all.
Rage Against The Machine
2/5
A little too discordant and shouty for my taste.
Scritti Politti
2/5
Vaguely remember this band from back in the day. I had forgotten them for years and if this album is any indication they are still pretty forgettable.
Crowded House
3/5
Didn’t have their big hits but it was a solid effort. A little laid back but good vocals and music.
Green Day
4/5
Decent early Green Day album. Couple of hits and some decent filler.
Cat Stevens
2/5
A little too mellow for my tastes. Might be good to help someone go to sleep at night.
AC/DC
5/5
Classic AC/DC. Great album with great music.
Siouxsie And The Banshees
2/5
Weird, discordant at times. Some songs seemed not too bad, others were borderline unlistenable.
The Cure
3/5
I find the vocals a little too emo to really like the album.
Ice T
3/5
Old school rap. Interesting and engaging.
The Allman Brothers Band
3/5
Very bluesy. Good album but because it’s live a bit too many solos and tangents.
Willie Nelson
5/5
Great album. Mellow and laid back, but full of bangers and interesting songs.
Wu-Tang Clan
3/5
Hardcore rap. Liked it ok.
Slade
3/5
Not bad 70s rock. Weird that Quiet Riot had more success with Slade’s songs than they did.
Hüsker Dü
3/5
Apparently these guys were contemporaries of REM. I never heard of them before 1001 albums.
Fiona Apple
2/5
This album was fine musically and vocally, but it just didn’t appeal to me.
Rahul Dev Burman
2/5
Never heard an album like this before. Lots of energy. Maybe too much.
Rod Stewart
3/5
Rod Stewart has such a distinctive voice. I don’t know that I was familiar with any of the songs but I still liked the album overall.
fIREHOSE
3/5
For a punk band this was better than I expected. Less discordant and more melodic.
Pretenders
3/5
A couple of hits and solid overall, although her voice is not my favourite.
Marilyn Manson
2/5
Too much of the death metal voice and weird music and lyrics.
Radiohead
2/5
Other Radiohead albums have been ok but this one seemed more experimental maybe and I didn’t like it as much.
Jorge Ben Jor
3/5
Interesting and upbeat. Great rhythms.
Beyoncé
2/5
Just couldn’t get it. I respect the artist but not my cup of tea.
Gram Parsons
3/5
Weird album with some countrified covers. I’d heard the name but not the music. Overall it was alright.
Willie Nelson
3/5
Not as good as the last Willie album but still pretty solid.
Big Black
2/5
Little too heavy and shouty for my taste.
The Zutons
3/5
Half decent music and vocals.
Television
3/5
A bit raw with whiny / slightly off key vocals but decent guitar.
Alice In Chains
3/5
Not my favourite grunge band of the era, and grunge is not my favourite genre, but this was not bad.
Deep Purple
4/5
Old school rock with some classic songs. Very bluesy vibe overall.
Laibach
2/5
Weird and crazy. Scary vocals.
