Gorillaz
GorillazA fantastic start for me, since I'm already familiar with at least a couple of the songs and know I enjoy their sound.
A fantastic start for me, since I'm already familiar with at least a couple of the songs and know I enjoy their sound.
I have left my body and returned to high school. Then "Liberian Girl" left me alone in a parking lot in a part of town I've never visited. (I do not recognise this and it's not a fave) Still, enough incredible music to make this a good listen.
Some great songs, but I never loved the album as much as it seemed I was supposed to.
This feels like music someone has poured emotion into. It's overflowing with sincerity and earnest angst.
Cecilia Ann - yes. Rock Music - ew, no. Some of the songs have good energy, some don't really do much for me.
One or two songs were enjoyable, but overall, not a favourite.
Not loving it, but I can see what would be appealing to others. A very full sound, without sounding discordant.
I already know this one is a favourite.
This is entirely new to me a few songs in, and I'm liking it. This isn't at all what I would think of were I to think of the Kinks. It feels like a bridge from the doo-wop, bouncy "oldies" to the fuller, more complex rock music of the seventies.
First song sounds like the song you'd hear in an 80's movie while the plucky, irreverent protagonist lead guy is walking through the streets of New York, getting into various amusing hijinks. I'm not crazy about it. The second song is quickly confirming this is an album of music used to set the moods in various 80's movies.
Evokes Blue Rodeo, Great Big Sea at first. This is good for me. Overall, not bad, but it is probably not going to become a favourite.
I only know the obvious song from this group, so this is new to me. I don't know if it's the recording quality or just the performer, but I am finding the singing (and talking) very mumbly and difficult to understand. The album is fine, but not likely one I'll seek out again.
Starting off with 'Mama Said' is a strong move. Following up with 'You Don't Own Me' gets a 5 star, with the rest of the album having a great sound and showcasing an amazing voice.
I can appreciate the talent that goes into jazz, but it's still not for me. The music makes me anxious.
Not much is really grabbing me, but "Back to Life" is enjoyable in its familiarity.
Elvis is a classic for a reason, but i would argue this isn't the best of his stuff.
Never heard of it, and the album cover did not make me eager to listen. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would, but that was a low bar.
Fantastic throwback right away in the first two songs. No, three. After that, it was fine.
Aaaa! Girls and Boys! That was a good time of life. Enjoyed the rest of the album, too. It has good energy and stays interesting.
I'm surprised at how much I'm actually enjoying this one. I would typically not think of this as my sort of music at all.
First thoughts on first notes - no. Three songs in and really, really disliking. This is going to be a DNF for me.
Liked it better than I expected, but not something I'll revisit.
This isn't doing much for me. I'm finding it kind of boring, even if I can recognise and admire the talent.
Just an amazing album
Wow. I keep looking to see if this is still the album, or I've somehow changed what I'm listening to. This is pretty amazing.
This is pretty boring. The last song, Captain, had more to it, but I'll not be listening again, probably.
The only song I really was familiar with was (of course), "Killing Me Softly" but I was very surprised to find myself enjoying this listen overall, since hip hop is definitely not typically a favourite.
Pleasant enough to listen to, good background while I worked and something I could see seeking out again maybe. But at the same time, it didn't blow me away, and I probably won't remember much about it later.
The epitome of blues-y. Mostly. Decent listen, not a fave.
Super enjoyed this and not just the two songs I recognized.
I dislike this.... so ... much. I could see this as maybe background music in a frenetic movie scene, but even then it just goes on too long.
Totally forgot this existed but it pulls. Until it doesn't, and then just feels a bit monotonous.
