I enjoyed Back to Basics more than I thought I would. Well produced; she has a strong voice; different music styles including some throwbacks, quazi-swing (Candy Man). Not my preference, but I would be happy to have it as background music.
Classic Zeppelin! A thoroughly enjoyable experience and travel back in time to my youth. Each track is solid and instantly recognizable. Five stars.
If there were a Mt. Rushmore of musicians, Stevie Wonder would have to be on it. He's a national treasure. Classic album, iconic songs. Songs in the Key of Life is five stars plus.
Someone called Aqualung music for Hobbits, and to me it's like RenFaire music. Yeah, I can totally imagine listening to this album in the Shire. No one plays the flute like Ian Anderson, and I can't think of any other group's music that sounds like Jethro Tull. Like taking a trip to a far-off land. Five stars.
I'm still sad about Kurt Cobain's suicide. He was too pure and sensitive for this harsh world that too often doesn't appreciate artists. That said, I enjoyed the classic Nirvana songs. All Apologies is one of the all-time greats.
This is my first time listening to In Utero all the way through. Aside from the classics, I didn't so much enjoy the others. I appreciate his anger, though. Some tracks were not to my taste, so I rate this four stars, while acknowledging Nirvana's immense impact and influence on rock music.
One time through was enough. It's all right, but not my favorite. Wouldn't seek it out. 2.5 stars
Don't love it; don't hate it. It's all right. 2.5 stars.
I'm not familiar with Fiona Apple's music. I read a profile on her in Grunge Magazine which gives context to her troubled life.
This album is interesting artistically; I enjoyed it, especially after learning about the artist. I hope she's doing well. 3.5 stars
I feel like her voice is an acquired taste. Not for me at the moment. Maybe later. Two stars
I listened to R.E.M. a lot back in the day. I prefer Automatic for the People, but I enjoyed Document. Four stars.
I miss Michael Stipe (not that he's gone, I just never see him around anymore).
First off, I had confused him with Bryan Adams (who I'm not a fan of), so I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. His sound is moody and I kind of like it but would probably not seek it out. (I missed all of the controversy, which I'm glad for.)
Beautiful background music. 3.5 stars
Less interesting version of Beck. Fine but boring. Two stars
This is a new-to-me band, so I had no expectations. I enjoyed the music. Chill vibe. Pleasant as background music. Three stars.
This gets a five from me just for "Will you still love me tomorrow" by itself. It's a perfect song. Classic album. Five stars.
Reminded me of Tracy Chapman. I feel like I've heard "Babylon" in tons of different movies and TV show. Enjoyable, light background music.
Fun and enjoyable, until it felt repetitive. A little X-Ray Spex goes a long way. 2 5 stars
Really nice. I love her voice. Who doesn't love Fast Car. Four stars
Reminds me of Oasis. New to me. Not bad, just not my cuppa tea. 2.5 stars
Stoked to get a Beatles album! I admit, I am a lifelong, hardcore Beatles fan, so this is a 5 before I even listen. (I last listened to Revolver a few months ago.) it's not my favorite Beatles album (and I definitely take issue with folks in the camp of this is their best). I would probably rank it as my sixth favorite.:)
Eleanor Rigby is just phenomenally written. For No One is beautifully sad. I love the sitars. The evolution from arriving in the States in early '64, playing their gorgeous, upbeat She Loves You and I Saw Her Standing There to the completely different styles and orchestrations on Revolver--to have accomplished that in a couple of years blows my mind.
Five stars. Always happy to listen front to back. <3
Thunder Road is probably my favorite Bruce Springsteen. The storytelling is brilliant. "The screen door slams, Mary's dress sways" is perfectly written. "Your graduation gown lies in rags at their feet," so many memorable lines. What a magnificent album. So much nostalgia. Work of art. Five stars
Enjoyed this new-to-me album.
Moody. Fun to hear this for the first time.
RIP, Ozzy!
Too grunge for my taste. A bit dark and gloomy (not in the mood today).
What can I say about this classic? To me, the genius is in its overarching theme, creating their alter ego Lonely Hearts Club Band and the performance. It's brilliant and works together for me more as a whole conceptual piece--the sum is greater than the individual parts (yet the individual songs are also brilliant).
I never tire of listening to this work of art.
5 stars for the excellent musicianship; 3 stars for listening to so many country songs.
Always love St. Bowie. Five stars.
It's hard to believe these classic Black Sabbath tunes are from 1970.
RIP, Ozzy
Well, they do remind me of a more punk, less good version of the Strokes (thank you to whoever wrote that--lol). Didn't enjoy. Two stars.
This takes me back to the Nineties. I enjoyed it. Four stars.
Fantastic album. Hard to believe George released this in 1970 on the heels of the Beatles breakup. A masterpiece!
Very nice. Joni is an acquired taste. Incredible musician and poet. This album wasn't my favorite. Three stars
Funky, smooth, enjoyable. First time I've listened to a Marvin Gaye album!
Four stars.
Enjoyed listening. New to me.
Enjoyable with notes of Bowie. New to me.
Mildly entertaining; well produced. Probably excellent if high. Three stars
Surprisingly boring. Surrender is still my favorite. Three stars
Beautiful. Absolutely gorgeous.
Kind of annoying and sounds repetitive. Bounced halfway through .Two stars.
First time I've listened to Band on the Run the whole way through and thoroughly enjoyed it! Five stars, will listen again when I have the chance.
"Enjoy the Silence" is my favorite Depeche Mode song. Solid album.
Buddy Holly will always get five stars from me.
RIP
Funeral for a friend is so well done, my favorite of this collection.
This was a fun album to listen and dance to! And a kick to hear the music for the Geico Caveman commercial. :)
Enjoyed this! Love his style. Good times.
Always liked Take Me Out. The album sounded very much like Franz Ferdinand.
Great album. All props to Jeff Lynne. (Not for his Beatles work, though. lol)
Always a good time, listening to this classic collection.
Not my favorite. Feels like soundtrack music for Peaky Blinders or some such. "Death is not the end" did stay with me for a while. Three stars.
I love Pet Sounds. Beautiful harmonies. It's an emo coming-of-age album.
Five stars
First time listening. Enjoying the mellow dreamlike quality. Three to four stars.
New to me (except for the first track). Enjoyable. Three stars. Surprised I haven't heard more about Love over the years.
What a voice! Five stars.
I remember when this came out, it received quite a bit of critical acclaim. Never listened to it until now. I like her sound! Enjoyed. Four stars
Always enjoy Talking Heads. First time listening to this one; only song U know is Take Me to the River. Four stars
I have to admit, I always thought Bitter Sweet Symphony was U2.
Enjoyable.
Not my favorite. Three stars
Loved this! First time listener. Reminded me of Donovan.
Bjork is a taste I have not yet fully acquired.
It's okay. Not bad but a little boring. Three stars for background music.
Classic, even if it's too bluesy for my taste. Five stars.
Takes me back to high school. Just as fun to listen to all these decades later. Classic.
I always sing along to Don't You Want Me when it comes on the radio.
Nice 80s synth pop. Four stars.
I played this one to death back in the day. So much fun coming across it. Still great. Always love Elvis Costello.
I Want You is the favorite track for me.
