1001 Albums Summary

First Impression before Listening: I haven’t heard much Elton John. I’ve never even heard a full album by him. I’m quite fond of the song, “ Don't let the Sun go Down on Me” especially the version with George Michael. I love Tiny Dancer but I haven’t heard another song off this album. Tiny Dancer: 10/10 Great Lyrics. Fantastic Piano. Great lap steel playing. Good guitar. Perfect song. Levon: 6.2/10 Not a bad song but not incredible. It doesn’t have the same quality as tiny dancer but the song carries on like it thinks it does… Razor Face: 6.5/10 Solid chorus. Original sounding. Madman Across the Water: 7/10 Great guitar intro. Probably should’ve focused on it more. But the electric outro and the middle 8 do it justice. Indian Sunset: 5.5/10 Pretty boring. Long. An entire album of ballads can be a bad idea. Because ballads should be performed in moderation. Holiday Inn: 6/10 Folky instrumentation and lyrics. At least it’s not a piano ballad. Rotten Peaches: 6/10 Pretty standard. All the Nasties: 4/10 Cheesy lyrics. The piano at the end of the chorus sounds exactly like tiny dancer. Goodbye: 4/10 Not too bad. Filler. All round not a bad album, just an underwhelming one. Tiny Dancer is a fantastic song and no other song is even worth mentioning on this album. Repetitive piano/ballad parts and boring lyrics mixed with long and experimental instrumentation make this album a chore.

Cream is a great band. Eric, Ginger and Jack are fantastic musicians. Strange Brew: 6.5/10 Classic Bluesy song but still original. Sunshine of your Love: 8/10 That riff is up there with Smoke on the Water. Fantastic song. World of Pain: 7.3/10 Basic and the words are spoken well. Dance The Night Away: 6.4/10 Nice 12 string Blue Condition: 6.1/10 Basic blues song. Tale of Brave Ulysses: 6/10 That riff sounds like white room. Pretty standard song. SWLABR:6.2/10 Not bad. Interesting song. We’re going wrong: 5.9/10 Boring Outside woman blues: 6.1/10 Standard Take it back: 6/10 Pretty normal blues track Mothers lament:7/10 Funny track. I like it.

I’ve heard of fat boy slim and I’ve heard a few songs but not this whole album. I’m not a fan of electronic music at all. This album cover is great. Right Here Right Now: 6.5/10 Sounds like a big song. Great album opener. The Rockafeller Skank: 6.4/10 Iconic song. Fucking in Heaven: 6.2/10 Really nothing to this song. Gangster Trippin: 5.4/10 Pretty boring. Build it up, Tear it down: 5.8/10 I like the build it up, tear it down part with the guitar. Kalifornia: 6/10 Cool sounding Soul Surfing: 5.2/10 You’re not from Brighton: 5/10 Praise You: 6.6/10 Good piano. Best song on the album. Love Island: 5.6/10 Interesting intro. Acid 8000: 5/10 Very long song.

I’ve heard a bit of Radiohead. The bends is a great album. A few of their other songs are great as well. I’ve heard a couple of the songs on this album, it should be good. Airbag: 7.2/10 The mix is fucking spot on. Everything sounds great. Nice guitar work. Great start to an album. Paranoid Android: 6.6/10 Has that off-kilter Radiohead sound to it. The bridge is fantastic, the riff is great. Fees like about 5 songs in one. Subterranean Homesick Alien: 6.2/10 Great intro sound. Exit Music (for a film): 6/10 Simple acoustic song. Let Down: 7/10 Sorrowful. Iconic. Has an American Football vibe to it. Karma Police: 10/10 Fantastic. Bloody. Song. Fitter Happier: filler Electioneering: 6.2/10 Nice rocker. Climbing up the Walls: 6/10 No Surprises: 8.5/10 Reminds me of House M.D. fantastic song with so much emotion. Lucky: 6.3/10 Groovy. The Tourist: 6.4/10 Relaxed and calm way to end one hell of an album.

I hate rap. I hate Kanye.

I respect Sly and the Family Stone. Im not a fan of soul music. It’s very repetitive sounding. The verse, pre chorus, chorus, bridge rock n roll format is not what they go by. So the songs feel like they’re repeating themselves.

Never heard of this group at all. It sounds like Lo-fi millennial soft rock music. I just knew the singer had a beard. It’s like pop rock but neither at the same time. The guitar playing isn’t so bad.

Another Kanye album two days later. Bloody hell.

I haven’t listened to a Jane’s Addiction album before, but I’ve heard some of their songs. They're a quality band. Stop!: 7.8/10 Cool funky and kick ass. No One’s leaving: 6.4/10 Fast and funky. Ain’t no right: 6.6/10 Raw. Fast. Hard and intense. Obvious: 6.6/10 The guitar is interesting. Heavily distorted but it doesn’t sound heavy. It’s sounds unique. Been Caught Stealing: 7/10 Quirky and poppy. Three Days: 6.5/10 Interesting guitar. The album seems to have taken a somber turn. Then She Did…: 7.4/10 I like the chorusy guitar. Of Course: 5.5/10 Middle eastern sounding. Classic Girl: 6/10 Relaxed and calm ending to a highly energetic album.

Fantastic band. I haven’t heard the full album but I’ve heard some songs of it and they all rock. Around the World: 9.4/10 One of the best intros to a song and album ever. Parallel Universe: 9.2/10 Great rockin tune. The bridge is so good. Scar Tissue: 9.5/10 Great slide guitar. Infinitely catchy. Other side: 9.4/10 Fantastic. Get On Top: 7.6/10 Fun. Catchy. Californication 9.6/10 Fantastic guitar, drums, bass, lyrics. Easily: 7/10 Nice chord progression. Porcelain 7.7/10 Slow. Emotional. Nice melody. Emit Remmus: 7/10 I like Dirt: 6.4/10 Guitar playing saves this track. This Velvet Glove: 8/10 Nice guitar work. Savior: 7/10 Purple Stain: 6.6/10 Right on Time: 7/10 Not bad. Abba sounding bassline. Road Trippin: 8/10 Nice acoustic song.

How is this possibly on the top 1001? It’s so long and boring.

Fantastic. My favourite smiths album. Their best quality across an album and the best tunes on here as well. First of their albums to go number 1. Headmaster Ritual: 10/10 Fantastic song. Genuinely perfect. Rusholme Ruffians: 8/10 Nice Rockabilly guitar. But still has the Smiths quality. I want the one I can’t have: 9.7 Great dark and catchy. What She Said: 9.6 High energy. Rock. The joke isn’t funny anymore: 10/10 Incredible. One of the best songs of all time. Nowhere fast: 7.7/10 Well I Wonder: 10/10 Barbarism begins at Home: 10/10 Meat is murder: 7/10

I hate her voice. I hate that she’s trying to sound complicated and jazzy. She just sounds crap.

I’ve only heard a couple of Billy Joel songs. I think that We Didn’t start the Fire song is great. Piano Man isn’t too bad. Movin out (Anthony’s song): 6.6/10 Not too bad. A bit too jolly sounding. I have seen this album cover before. I’ve never heard a song of theirs and I’ve never heard of the band either. I am trying to break your heart: 6.5/10 I like this guys voice. Good song. It’s like a rocky type song but it has so many extra instruments on it. Very original sounding. The ending is a mess. Kamera: 5/10 Not very interesting. Radio Cure: 5.5/10 Im starting to think this band are trying to be Radiohead. War on War: 5/10 Sounds like a Fleetwood Mac song from the start. Hate that opening vocal style. I think hes trying to play like Neil young but this guy just sucks. Pot Kettle Black: 6.5/10 Not bad. Probably the best song of the album. Poor Places: 5.5/10 Not too bad. Disco 2000 is a fantastic song. Common people is a bloody awesome song as well. I have high hopes for this album. Mis-Shapes: 6.5/10 Gets off to a slow start but is a good rocking tune when it gets going. Pencil Skirt: 6/10 “But I’ve kissed your mother twice, and now I’m working on your dad.” What a line. Never heard it before. Fairly gutsy move for a metal band to do a full concert with a symphony orchestra. The Call of Ktulu: 7/10 Sounds epic, great opener. Master of Puppets: 4/10 Sounds too busy. Of wolf and man: 5.5/10 Has its moments The thing that should not be: 3/10 Way too busy, takes away from the heaviness. Fuel: 4.5/10 The memory remains: 5/10 No leaf clover: 4.5/10 Hero of the day: 2/10 Started off sounding so good. Lars drumming in the beginning is a joke, I don’t know how James was struggling with the vocals when that album came out only 4 years before? Devils dance: 4/10 The heavy songs really suffer from the strings. It makes it sound thin and not as heavy. Bleeding me: 6.5/10 Pretty good. Nothing else matters: 5/10 The song that best fits an orchestra sounds so basic. Disappointing. Until it sleeps: 4.5/10 For whom the bell tolls: 5/10 -human: 3/10 Boring. Wherever I may roam: 1/10 James’s voice sounds auto tuned sometimes. Outlaw torn: 6/10 For a song that has a great quiet-loud verse, the strings take away the basic beauty of that. Legendary album even without listening to it. It’s so rock and roll to play at a prison. Absolute legend. Folsom Prison Blues: 8/10 Upbeat and iconic. Dark as the dungeon: 7/10 Nice, like a groovy folk song. I still miss someone: 7/10 Cocaine blues: 7/10 Those lyrics are so mad it’s funny. 25 minutes to go: 7.5/10 So many good lines in this song. I’ve heard that these guys were pretty heavy sounding. Summertime blues: 6.5/10 Vocals are very loud compared to the guitars. Sounded like the drums got mic’d up with microphones in the room next door. Rock me baby: 6/10 Doctor please: 5/10 Out of focus: 4.5/10 Parchment farm: 5/10 Second time around: 5.5/10 Pretty gnarly drum solo.

Lo fi shite.

I have listened to this album. I love it. The album cover is fantastic. The barebones approach is unmatched. Bruce really is a wizard. Nebraska: 7/10 Almost eerie sounding. Atlantic City: 9/10 Just a classic. So basic but so good. Words are fantastic. Music is class. Mansion on the Hill: 7/10 Johnny 99: 7/10 High energy, early rock and roll energy, but contains strong folk elements including a harmonica. Highway Patrolman: 6.5/10 State trooper: 7.5/10 So good and almost creepy sounding. Used cars: 6.5/10 Open all night: 6.5/10 My fathers house: 6/10 Reason to believe: 6/10

Jesus christ. This looks like it’s gonna be bad. Honestly for an album with some freaky looking child on the front, not too bad. The songs are not what I expected at all. It contains some very solid rock songs, I like the raspiness of his voice. The songs are quite basic but the songs are good.

12 songs in 28 minutes? That’s unheard of. Still, it provides beautifully crafted acoustic tunes. Hauntingly beautiful melodies and gorgeous vocals.

I’ve heard of Curtis mayfield, but I don’t think I could name any of his tunes. Genuinely a groovy soundtrack that makes me want to watch the movie. The horns and the wah guitar sounds so good. Such a good 70s soundtrack, not just for the 70s but in general.

I’ll be honest. Im really not a fan of nick drake. This album is a huge step up from Five Leaves Left. Its is great musically. But it can tend to be a bit of a drag on occasion.

Nice album cover. The kinks are massively influential. I’ve never heard one of their albums. This album was heavily criticised when it was realised, many labelled it one of the earliest concept albums. The village green preservation society: 5/10 Wow. I think when people want to hear the kinks they want to hear gritty rock, not an experimental album.

I’ve heard that these guys were massively influential to a lot of big bands including GNR. I also know that Vince Neil was responsible for killing one of them so there ya go. The influence on bands like skid row, GNR and Motley Crüe is very obvious. Hanoi Rocks sound like the Clash mixed with glam rock and mixed with pop music melodies. Pop music melodies were a key part in the success for bands like Poison and many more glam bands to come. How can people not like this band??They sound so futuristic. If the whole glam era of the 80s sounded like Hanoi rocks, people would look back with a lot more fondness for the genre. What would these guys achieved if Razzle didn’t get killed? They sound so good.

I’ve heard a couple of the songs on this album. The sound is gigantic. The phrase “wall of sound” doesn’t do it justice, it’s an apartment block of sound. only shallow: 7.5/10 Really groovy. Not a fan. The late 2010’s was a great time for good pop music, this album doesn’t count.

“Jungle brothers on the microphone” other than that line, I can’t say I’ve ever heard these guys.

All the king crimson super fans who think that King Crimson is the best prog band seriously need to listen to 1 Rush album. King Crimson isn’t bad, but they’re no where as good as people say they are.

Not too bad really. When I saw the first song went for 11 minutes I nearly fell over. But the music is really good, a bit too long in some spots but it’s quality. I don’t like Jazz but I could listen to this album again.

Pink Floyd’s first album, featuring Syd Barrett and a respectable album duration-to-song ratio (probably the only album of Pink Floyd’s that does) with 11 songs in 41 minutes. Astronomy Domine: 5.5/10 Instrumentation isn’t too bad at the start, but it the last few minutes just seem like a waste. Lucifer Sam: 6/10 This riff sounds like a bond song. Matilda Mother: 5/10 I don’t like the vocals on this track. Flaming: 5.5/10 Pow R. Toc H.: 4/10 That intro is stupid. The song is pointless. Take up thy stethoscope and walk: 5.5/10 That title is funny. Interstellar overdrive: 6/10 That guitar riff is fucking amazing. If only they could write lyrics to it and make it a snappy 3 minute rock tune instead of a 9 minute instrumental. The gnome: 5.5/10 Don’t mind it, a short song about gnomes. At least it’s direct. 👍 Chapter 24: 5/10 The scarecrow: 5/10 Bike: 6/10 Don’t mind it.

I’ve been meaning to listen to this for a while. Im a fan of all the singles. Bittersweet symphony: 9/10 Timeless classic. The instrumentation and melodies aren’t so bad, they can’t get a bit repetitive though. Her vocals are strange, sometimes she’s got that c o u n t r y d r a w l, other times she sounds like a pop star. The albums not terrible it can get a bit repetitive for the melodies and the singing, the lyrics can be cheesy and boring with cliches.

Wow. This three album stretch is so diverse. The Bends- a somber guitar focused album. Ok Computer- a mature album with more instrumentation and mindful critiques. And then this. It starts as an electronic album, the band has once again reinvented themselves, but this time, without their own instruments. The idea that a band is to create a song without their own instrument is daunting, then you consider that the majority of the album is recorded without their traditional guitar styles. The album only contains one “true” traditional Radiohead rocker, and thats Optimistic. The song sounds like it’s taken from the Bends but sounds more calculated. Big name and highly acclaimed album always make me suspicious and critical, considering the masses aren’t known for their good taste. This album is a 21st century Dark Side of the Moon, there’s no other band that has created an album like this. Kid A is a genuinely innovative and interesting album that deserves all of its accolades and love over the 2 plus decades since its release.

FUCKING INCREDIBLE.
