I just don't get it? There was nothing musically impressive and the album just drones on. It's only saving grace is that it was over quickly.

This feels like a prank. Like… it’s really bad? I have a hard time seeing how this ends up on a list of best of anything. Most off-putting maybe.
Defies the star rating system but I give it one for titling a song Big Muff, which may mean many things but happens to be the name of an obscure guitar effects pedal worshipped by guitar geeks. I like to think the title came to John from the guitar player he paid to play on this with a pile of cocaine so massive that the studio lobby coffee table resembled a diorama of Mount Fuji. They say you have to listen to these albums, but not necessarily why. Sounds like it was made by a wealthy bon vivant raised on an obscure Mediterranean island where he learned English from pop music radio. Listening to this I wonder if the word vapid can take a modifier, like as in \"incredibly vapid.\" Because I was slightly incredulous that I could spend this much time inside the head of another human and yet find nothing there. Was this made by AI, perhaps with a prompt of \"soundtrack for when it's 8 am and you've finished all the coke an hour ago and everyone left and you can't decide if you should make a sandwich or use the toilet?\" Actually, we know it's not because AI would have come up with better lyrics.

i did NOT like this. i can't quite put my finger on why but the vocals are probably it. somehow boring and deeply uncomfortable.

Why do I get the feeling this is going to be a major wankfest and I haven't even pressed play yet? This is not off to a good start. Yeah, no. The guitar sounds like a fart with reverb and delay on it. His voice makes Michael McDonald sound like Pavarotti. The album art should have stayed hanging on that basement wall in the 70s. This is terrible.
Left more to be desired. I kept thinking I would start liking it but never quite got there. The acoustic track was the best of the bunch imo.

His voice in the first song gives sandpaper nightmares and then he mellows out a bit. Not my thing.

I got John Martyn's album "Solid Air" several hundred albums ago, and I remember not really caring for it (I found it boring). This album is a bit more lively, but only in the yacht-yist of yacht rock ways. I think my whole problem here stems from... these tracks are fine, I guess. They don't leave any impression on me, aside from the fact I'm surprised there's a bossa nova track (though should I be?). I liked the relaxing sound collage/guitar of the final track "Small Hours", but... this album just didn't leave me feeling anything. It'd be fine being background music at a dinner, but this, to me, just sounds like music for people who don't have any opinion on music.

Tiene algunos momentos interesantes con sonidos caribeños y una buena ejecución en la guitarra, pero en general se me hizo un disco aburrido, su forma de cantar no me es grata y quitando un par de tracks un poco más movidos, se me hizo que tiene cambios demasiado sutiles, por no decir que es francamente plano. Tracks: quizá Dancing y Certain Surprise
