Did not enjoy any of it. I actually looked at the other reviews and there is a guy who wrote a freakin soliloquy about how amazing it is and I just dont see it, crazy how different two people view the same thing. He does say his sister bought him the album in 1971 so a bit older and definitely the time of life that this stuff makes an impression, but still, cannot believe this is held up as some kind of amazing rock album. Led Zepplin eats their lunch in every conceivable way.

Nice to be exposed to it. Apparently it is called Qawwali . Very different than what I am used to, but at the same time, definitely not alien, there is a familiarity with it that transcends language. 3.5 but would give it 4 for the novelty.
Definitely 5 stars for me. Probably 4.5 if I am being objective. An album I will always really love.
Tried to fuse a bunch of sounds together in the same way that a kid would try to make a meal by adding every ingredient in a fridge. But worse. A true 1.
Really did not like this. Seems like typically the type of thing I can at a minimum tolerate and usually find something to enjoy, but this was not it. It was the first version of 80's Brit Pop I have heard. It all felt like a really bad version of Sledgehammer and Phil Collins mashed up. Did not enjoy.

Liked it more than I was probably expecting. Know her from Fast Car and watching that video in my youth. Behind the Wall was powerful and she is clearly a voice for those that need one. Enjoyed Mountains O Things and Baby Can I Hold you as well.
Had listened to this quite a bit then. Not the entire album, but the big 3-4 songs I had heard many times. I like the music and it is undeniably well made, but at the same time, just ultimately not my thing. Don't mind listening to it but cant imagine myself seeking it out.
Enjoyed more than I thought I would, especially after the first track, which was the lowlight for me. I do not know who did the song Dream Attack and thought, these guys remind me a ton of those guys. Turns out they are the same guys.
I think this is the most pure "jazz" I have ever listened to. It is - a bit tough. Not particularly smooth, but generally interesting. I do not care for it a ton halfway through, will see if the final two songs move me more. I have listened to them all a couple times now and it is growing on me a bit. I dont know how much I would want to listen to it, but I am starting to enjoy it more
Really didn't care for it. Not much more to say than that. It is not awful but it is definitely not something that I would want to listen to again/regularly
Enjoyed the album quite a bit. Not the music I would typically listen to, but I am familiar with it living in the SW for 20 years. Pretty impressed, don't know how much more I will listen but will be more open to that type of music now.
The band sucks. Did not like anything they did, at all. Stopped halfway through, couldn't do it anymore.
This was fine. It is the Beatles so it is good, but definitely not my favorite music of theirs. Dont imagine I would want to listen to it over their other stuff.
I am digging this two sings in. I have heard of this previously but didn't know much about it other than it existed. Continued to really like it. It is a very cohesive and the songs really tell a story. Would definitely listen to it more. Final verdict is it is a cool album ahead of its time, it sound like it could have come out this year and I definitely dig it.
Cool album. Was familiar with it when it came out and Bowie died kinda shortly thereafter, so it got a popularity bump from that at the time. Definitely sounds like Bowie knew he was not going to be around for much longer as he was making this. His voice sounds like the voice of a movie/anime character that knows they are completing their last work(s) before they will expire. Lazarus is best song, but I really like the sax throughout the album.
Liked it. Funkier than I remembered it being. Flea is a god on bass, really heard him throughout the album. Good shit.
Enjoyed it. Was very familiar with Heads Will Roll, liked it then, liked it now. The rest was also good. Though the tone of album really chained from the first few songs to the last. Which is not a problem in itself but the tonal differences were so big that I caught myself wondering if it was still the same album.
Knew the name Steely Dan but not too much of his music. Super noodly guitar riffs, enjoyable but wont come back to it much.
Meh. I can appreciate them on one hand and dislike them on the other. Weird as shit. Good for them.
Super hippy 60's music. Not for me.
Not bad. Apparently this generator is 70% brit pop but this was better than most.
Digging it. Good vibe, good beats, good pacing. Really solid and would definitely listen to it again.
Liked it. Super hippy 60's vibe. Wouldn't listen to it much, but wouldn't change most of it if it came on.
Super simple and boring. Not sure if this guy was singing, sounded like he was just kinda talking. Couldn't listen to all of it, bored the hell out of me. The beats were maybe decent for the time (not really but trying to be nice). There is a lyric on the most popular song where he says this is my tailor, hes called Simon, he is sure it will fit, lol.
Enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Wish he was a bit less religious as 3/4 songs were about angels or coming home to heaven. But the ones without I would definitely listen to again.
Pretty dope sample album. Really enjoyed hearts in 3/4 time. Great transitions. Can't give it a 5 because some of the tracks ended up being too repetitive and sampled, like Frontier Psychiatrist. But overall definitely enjoyed it and would listen to it again.
Meh. Did not enjoy. Didn't hate it, its not offensively bad or anything. More of an elevator music vibe. What a terrible album cover, though. Not sure if I have seen one worse.
Not good
Dug it. I am into a synth vibe right now and they crushed it
Primarily this dude signing in French, I mean its not bad, this guy can clearly sing, but not my thing I am looking for. Think I would have liked it a lot more if the instruments were more prominent.
Super weird but I dug it. Listened to it a couple of times and may come back to it. Was hard to describe, in a good way.
Eh. Its super punk or whatever. I was never as enamored with punk as my peers were. Super basic and boring music, wouldnt listen to it again.
Meh
Hippy Trippy Vibes Sound of the season is iconic for the timeframe. Sounds like the era, not the best, not the worst.
Enjoyable, sounds like a precursor to 80's synth.
Good country, not my deal
Country/folk/bluegrass/rock, I think. Super 60's (like always, jesus this thing loves the 60s)
Bowie being Bowie, man
Fucking eh, what a great album.
Its an Xmas album.
The legend
Very good. Enjoyed it a lot.
Interesting prog stuff
Perfect
Funky as hell and I really liked it. Got me into the genre and I am digging the fuck out of it.
Disney music. Very good and very well done but my brain can really only hear it as disney music
Not for me
Mutha fuckin 'Pac
Super dope and weird.
Great bluegrass, really enjoyed it
Boo
Great friggin album, so many bangers
Fire
Dope
Felt like I was watching a Guy Ritchie movie
Meh
11/10 Album cover photo
They all start the same and then they all sound the same, boring.
King of Pop - a well earned title
What a cover. Pretty good music too, obviously knew Ace of Spades but The RoadCrew was phenomenal
Great rock album, catchy as hell songs
His voice is just so terrible, how do people not just listen to it but love it so much? Truly dont get it, need a Dylan fan to enlighten me I guess
Shit, Damn, Motherfucker What a jam
Really enjoyed it, maybe just in a generous mood today, but it was quite good.
Not for me. Sounds like every stereotype of the 80's in a bad way.
Dope shit
Pretty nice
Gotta give it a 5. Just the epitome of Rock&Roll
Not very good, trying to be a spacey psychadelic thing, I think? Not a good sign I am not sure.
Pretty friggin meh
Big nostalgia album for me. They were one of the first bands I liked and knew that they were "new" music. The 007 song was a big one for me as a kid. Probably don't quite deserve a 4 but I need to give them more than a 3.
Loved this shit. Super weird and irreverent vibe with sick easy beats.
Amazing. Takes me back.
So so so good. Set the genre for a long time
Too weird and English 80's for me
Amazing album. Flea really stood out to me in a way I had not fully appreciated before, that guy fucking shreds a base.
Amazing stuff
Enjoyed the Kendrick feature
It is good/fine, but just not super compelling to me. Drums sound pretty similar each song
Weird that the first song had lyrics and everything else was synth, but still interesting.
Good stuff, Dolly.
Nice easy listening
Meh
Super duper meh. Kinda forgot it was on.
The 80's and 90's came together and made this catastrophe, yeesh.
All over the place, definitely hard to call this album anything specific. But good and the type of music that I feel opened doors towards the modern melded sound. Also - shredded way harder than I expected.
They sound like the 60's just not done that well compared to the good stuff.
Actually kinda a jam
Good shit. Lauren is amazing
Really boring and just not good
Fecking whiny brit pop, I am honestly glad I do not come up in this era of music
boring
Pretty forgettable, to be honest. Love hitting the snare really big, regardless of song or tempo.
Not bad, better than most of the Brit Pop
Taylor has way better stuff than this, pretty boring album. Good stuff on it, don't get me wrong, but when you are here, you get compared to your discography each time. If this just had more different types of songs it would be a 4, but I just felt that they all sounded the same.
Meh. 2.5
Liked the ones with Spanish and Latin(?), very eclectic.
Too much Brit pop recently, hard to let them stand alone. I guess it is their fault they sound so similar?
Don't love the live versions of stuff. Them talking about their new record and that "this is off the new stuff" is off-putting to me. Music itself is fine.
This album wasnt for me. Will be interested to listen to more since they are so iconic.
Giving it a 4 for the good stuff and I can tell it was pretty cutting edge musically. The album in totality is a 2.75
Good ol meh 60s rock
Really wanted to like it more, but it was just so all over the place, and not just that it was a double feature.
Totally fine, but not super interesting.
Shits a banger, gotta give it to her
Sounded like the 90's to me, surprised it came out in 2006
Lorde Lorde Lorde I am Lorde
Good shit
Best Dylan album so far
Too proto-rock for me. I am sure they played a part in the evolution, but there is no way I would want to listen to this again.
Good stuff, really enjoyed.
Amazing. Crazy its live and acoustic
Wow. Worst rap I can remember hearing in a long time.
Not for me
Not bad, 3.5
3.5 Good but a little stale as it goes on. Like her later stuff more, for sure, but this was good.
Nope.
Sometimes you have to appreciate aptly named content. This is what the name says it is.
3.5 rounding up to 4 since 3.5 is not an option
Weird as shit. Grew on me a bit, but wouldn't want to listen to it again. 2.5
Kendrick Lamar AKA Comptons human sacrifice
Love Ozzy, wish he was featured more, iconic album either way.
3.5, giving them the 4 out of respect. Brass Monkey was great, but a lot of it was not good, doesn't hold up from that long ago.
Miss this Kanye, wish he would just make music again. He and Common did amazing on this
Great for a massage or when you are doing other stuff, definitely not traditional western music. Liked it, but its basically background elevator music, lobbies, etc.
2.5
3.5, giving it the 4 because of its status in history.
More meh than I was expecting. Thought it would be more like an AC/DC level of rock, it was not.
4.5, Cornell has such an iconic voice and the music holds up.
2.5
3.5 Solid rock
Still diggin the 90's Beatles
Meh. Stuck between easy listening and a trying to follow her voice. Feel like it would be better if she picked a lane.
Easy listening jazz
Just noises, dont get these
Fuck no
2.5
3.5
Oh man, takes me back in such a big way. Some ANGRY music, can see why I liked it so much at that point in my life. Hard to believe it was 24 years ago. Feels like it was so recent. Not nearly as good as the stuff that comes after but it was so revolutionary at the time, have to keep that in context.
Just don't care for the stones. 2.5
Great album, quite a ride
3.5
British as fuck 3.5
2.5
2.5
Really weak. Very little to like
Funky as shit
2.5 Kinda sounds like the Friends band
Weak, trying to do a Zed thing, I guess
Great, shreds 4.5
2.5
Hippie as fuck rock 2.5
Thought I would enjoy her more for how iconic she is. Don't love her style.
Not as good as their other stuff, IV is definitely better, but still amazing.
So this is the band that sang the song freak out from my childhood in the 90's. The full song is not great. Neither is the album. 2.5
3.5
Weird one. Really disliked it at first, had to pause for some reason, came back to it hours later and really enjoyed it. Listened to it again and still enjoyed it, but a little less.
3.5 Enjoyed it, but made me want to listen to something like the Family Stone instead
3.5
Stay in the 60's bub.
Sounds like a shitty Randy Newman rock band. And Randy himself is already not great. 1.5
Good shit, gotta love TP and the HB's
Nice to be exposed to it. Apparently it is called Qawwali . Very different than what I am used to, but at the same time, definitely not alien, there is a familiarity with it that transcends language. 3.5 but would give it 4 for the novelty.
Havent heard a ton of Joplin, really enjoyed her on this. 3.5
Weird rock. Feels like punk French or something
3.5
Weird as shit country folk, kinda dug it 3.5
Liked it but tapered off, kinda one note.
2.5
2.5, way more meh than I was expecting
3.5
Weird 90s rap rock. Not very good. Maybe the type of thing that inspired Linkin Park? If so, good for them for doing that. But otherwise, not something I enjoyed. 1.5
2.5
3.5
3
Definitely 5 stars for me. Probably 4.5 if I am being objective. An album I will always really love.

2.5
Quirky rock that grew on me more than expected.
3.5
Just not for me, very slow and quiet and not much happening.
Can now definitively say Whitney was way better. Not bad, but just doesn't even compare.
1.5, wow, this sucked
4.5 Really really good
Really weak
Man in Black
3.5 pretty good, feel like his voice holds it back a bit, but I know he is iconic for a ton of people so trying to appreciate it for its uniqueness.
Sounded like a French dude that wanted to bang me. I didn't hate it.
Enjoyed it alot.
2.5
2.5
Weird sitar covers of old pop 2.5
Just not a punk guy
3.5
2.5
Whimsical and different
4.5 Very good but not a 5, for me.
Dollar Store Daft Punk
3.5 Lovefool is a BANGER
It is good and I know why people like it so much. My gripe is it sounds really similar song to song. 3.5
Good music, not sure how much I would want to listen to it again, but enjoyable. 3.5
3.5
3.5 Duh duh duh, dun dun, duh duh, dun dun dun, dun, duh a
Its fine but the first song is 22 min long 2.5
3.5 Okay rap, wouldn't mind listening to it again, wouldn't seek it out either
Holy reverb batman 2.5
Good ol angry middle school music. 3.5
Trying to be Jim Morrison. They aren't 2.5
3.5
I just dont see the genius that others do in this. 2.5
Old twangy rock 2.5
2.5
Good 90's rock 3.5
Epitome of 3
Cool to hear the evolution of music through this record. You can tell what sounds somewhat basic now was really groundbreaking and set the stage for rock and pop to come.
Oh, another Beatles clone from the 60's, cool.
Doesn't have Jazz Police on this record, so that is a minus. Overall sounds like so much else that I have heard from the 60's, good stuff, but definitely not nearly as interesting as his later stuff. Quite a change of an artist to hear his songs across his career, respect that.
Really enjoyed the pop/country fusion from this album, definitely different than the modern way of doing it. Solid 4
Solid pop rock
2.5 basically elevator music for me
Political talking rap. Beats are weak, but sign of the times, I guess. Lyrics are very pointed towards socio-political issues in the US, just not the content I want to listen to and relax with. 2.5
3.5
Not just no, but fuck no
4.5, really enjoyed this. Not quite perfect enough for a 5 but very damn close
3.5
Hard as shit
Indian Electronica. Not done super well
Pretty lame
Just not for me, hard to call it music
2.5
3.5
All over the place, many songs were a 2, some were a 3.5-4. 2.5 overall
Early country rock/fusion? Doesn't really land
2.5
2.5
90's chick rock, not for me
3.5
2.5
Sweet early electronic stuff, could hear the influence they had on Daft Punk.
Amazing, cant beat Zep
2.5
Super weak spoken word pop/country? Yuck 1.5
Way more rock way less psychedelia, makes sense as it is earlier. But not as good.
2.5
3.5
Way too weird, just making sounds on half the tracks
There is just no way there should 4 albums from one band on this, and I am just a little over half way in.
Good lounge music
3.5
3.5 Good jams, Dont You Want Me is an all timer and amazing one to end on
Meh 2.5
Good jazz 3.5
Rough song to end on, didnt realize how literal they meant that with the album.
70s rock chick
Good old fashioned guitar rock
Hard to appreciate since they screwed over Mugato so hard causing him to try and take over the world by mind controlling the Prime Minister of Malaysia

3.5, good stuff
Very bleh 90s rock
3.5 liked the reggae vibes
All my lifes I has to fight
Yuck
Had some bangers, better than I anticipated.
Weird combo of psych rock and a jam band. 2.5
3.5 Good but doesnt wow me
Not for me
3.5 Interesting, will listen to it again
Groovy
3.5
Still cant do it
Just sound the same on every track 2.5
More harmonica than I prefer, but not bad
Was expecting more, a solid 3
Solid but uninteresting. 2.5
Love Foo
2.5
A 3.5 but should revisit again, could be a legit 4
3.5
2.5, more meh than I expected
Really good solid 4
Tried to fuse a bunch of sounds together in the same way that a kid would try to make a meal by adding every ingredient in a fridge. But worse. A true 1.
3.5 on the back of Tainted Love and Sex Dwarf
3.5 but want to come back to it
Interesting guitar, not quite like anything I familiar with. Wouldn't seek it out, but didnt hate it. Had a Caribbean vibe to it, but says its Persian/Krautrock
Super weak 90's alternative
Pretty dope
Punky punk. Never been my favorite

Woo. I fucking liked this band as a 13/14 year old. I distinctly remember this coming out and being hugely disappointed. Was their other stuff better? Because this is awful
3.5
Really appreciate African music more and more as I listen to it
2.5
Thought I would like Radiohead more but so far super dissappointing 2.5
Do people that like punk typically like metal? My guess would be no, since its so simple vs complex. Punk just doesnt do it for me 9/10 and this is one of the 9.
Probably my most generous 4, mainly doing it so I listen to it again later, to see if I was right or just in a weird mood listening to it the first time.
3.5
2.5
Punk that sounds like all the other punk, but not as good
2.2
First half was a 5, second was a 2.5, so I guess its a 3.5
2.5
I dont think Absolute was actually about a girl ;-) Not good at all
4.5
2.5
There is just no way this album deserves to be on this list. So so so much better stuff from the decade. Never heard of them, no cultural relevance. This is my biggest gripe with this challenge. So much of it is so mediocre with no hook to why it was interesting at the time.
Best punk so far

2.5
Oh great, another noise album.
3.5
3.5
Potentially worth another listen, though its not very good, it did have some intrigue.
3.5
Oh baby, baby So I bought this album as a 13/14 year old because of, well, horniness I suppose. When I heard the song Soda Pop it was like a weird dream I had turned out to be true. I remembered how bad that song was specifically (there was like a Shaggy inspired phase with weird carribean vocals) and hearing it again was a trip.
3.5
Pretend I didn't listen to this, geez
Got some pipes
4.5 but giving the 5 because its closer to that than a 4

Sorry Jack, back to back songs about boll weevils and bedbugs lost me
Cant go beyond a 3.5, but enjoyed more than I thought I would when it started
Love Cohen but definitely prefer his older stuff when his voice became a machine that turned rocks into gravel.
3.5
2.5
Not the biggest flute guy
3.5 but interesting enough that I want to listen to it again, appreciate the difference from what I feel like I am used to. Reminds me a bit of Father John Misty.
A medieval gothic vibe to this one. Didn't care for it much at first but it did grow on me. Can't deny Ute has some chops, even if I don't necessarily want to listen to it again. 3.5

This was one sad song about heartbreak extended over an entire album. Funny to think about how masculine/macho/machismo we think about this time period and how cool Sinatra was, juxtaposed against him crooning being a sad sack loveless loser for an hour. 2.5
Have Like Eno quite a bit in the past and he is definitely a boundary pusher, this one pushed a bit too far for me.

Super interesting. Maybe a little slower for an entire album than I would love but definitely enjoyed it.

Listened to it a lot when I was younger and appreciated it then, listening to it now, it feels better than what I remembered. Incredibly solid album throughout.

Why does every song have an incredibly shrill noise in it somewhere? Worst album in awhile.

Super glad to find an awesome album on #1000 :-) Favorite new one in a long time.
This is the most 80's thing I have ever heard. But not in a good way. My god, was the snare synth a requirement to be at a 9.5 every song?

Really really bad. I am proud of what hip hop has become, but man, going back to these old gangsta rap albums is rough.

Damn, what bangers, all on one album. I knew all of the songs, just didn't know they all came out on this.
