Reviews (page 8 of 8)

This hasn't aged well, I didn't particularly enjoy it and I'm not sure what makes it exceptional enough to be on the list, there are a lot of albums from the late 50s/early 60s that sound like this. High 1.

I judged a book by its cover and I was right in doing so. 1

Yea not for me

Zu alt, zu gleichförmig

Didn't like it

Talk about wash, rinse, repeat. I gave this one a closer look because my dad liked the Everlys....but this was 27 minutes of repeated riffs. The only song I was aware of was Cathy's Clown....If this was what it was like to grow up in the 1960's, it was pretty bland.

Was not able not get into this one. Could not imagine getting hyped to go to a concert of this music but people were probably lined up out the door for a chance to throw ass at these dudes.

selkäpiitä KARMII kun suuta aletaan soittaa. en pysty, edfhjknfnflsjnkdfhfdfn miten voi olla näin vähän tunnetta...personaalisuutta... tylsä on tunne btw, tämä ei ole tylsä... vaan tunteeton sieluton... amerikka moment. hyi hyi hyi 28 minuuttia ja silti tuntu pidemmältä kuin eilisen 2h albumi. kovereita tietenkin, radioystävällistetty mustaihoisten biisejä gg baby what. wjat the fuck

I don't know if I was in a bad mood or what, but I did not like this album. It basically represents everything that hasn't appealed to me with some of the albums on this project I've done so far. It's repetitive, unoriginal (I'm fine with covers, but with only 3 out of the 12 songs being written by the Everly Brothers themselves, it's a bit too much on the "they didn't write these songs" side of things), boring, and worst of all, it hasn't aged well! That first song. Oof... That is what you call an uncomfortable listen. I guess this serves as a representation of the music of the time, but maybe I just don't like the music of that time. I also don't like the singing. I don't know why, I just don't. The instrumentation is probably the best part of the album, and even then it's only average at best. Also, what's with all the fade-outs? I know I'm nitpicking at this point, but it happened for what I think was all of the songs. With all of those, as well as this specific album not really having much impact (even if the artists have had a slight cultural impact), I think this album warrants my first ever 1/5.

Highlights: Love Hurts, Cathy's Clown. In a nutshell: the blueprint. I found myself skipping a lot of songs on this album. I knew of an earlier Everly Brothers single "Bye Bye Love" and was hoping this album showed an expansion of their sound. Nope. Just heard more of the same melodies. The Everly Brothers definitely influenced future musicians, especially in the UK. There is too much filler on this album to justify its place on the list. Overall: 2/10

Very outdated songs, couldn't listen to them unfortunately.

Jesus, the lyrics on this are terrible. Almost as bad as the music itself. Definitely a product of its time, but even then I cannot see a time or place for this. Just beige pop for American retirement homes. Very dated. And there’s no excuse for it: just 4 short years later Velvet Underground were doing their thing. This record was of a same era as VU. I cannot get my head around that. Horrible.

Mercifully short, this music sounds like a completely different era, totally detached from anything I'd actively listen to. Very much the boy/girl band pop genre of the day, where the most important thing was they were good looking and inoffensive, and the music was irrelevant. Completely pointless.

This is so incredibly dated in the worst way. If I was a white bloke in the 60s I might have liked this but I'm not and instead think it's dog shit.

Fuck. Off.

This album really bummed me out. All of the songs were super sad lyrics and happy beats, which I usually love, but the sadness was mostly towards women's behavior rather than intrinsic self-hate and that's not my jam. I hope they found peace before they inevitably died.

So dated. Quite cringy. Ugh! Hard pass.

This has to be one of the most harmless album I've ever heard. It has all the edge of a sphere and as such was kinda boring. There was some interesting production choices when viewed through the lens of the time it came out but today is basic stuff. Not really doing it for me. Nazareth did Love Hurts better anyway.

Good news... harmonies. Bad news.... boring and juvenile lyrics.

I don't think I'm up for a second date

The first track just made me feel icky. The rest of the album doesn't improve much and the only thing going for it is that all the songs are under 3 minutes.

Songs to fall asleep to while driving on the highway

It's not an album I was Made To Love. Even though this album only clocks 28 minutes, every new song feels Just Too Much on whiteness and late 50's songwriting. Where the songs kept asking to Just Stick With Me, I couldn't help to Sigh, Cry, Almost Die with every note and harmony that was thrown my way. Even side B - with mostly songs written Felice and Boudleaux Bryant - could not give me a Change Of Heart. So How Come (No One Loves This Album)? The cover of Lucille tells the story. It's without power, without swagger. It's safe. It's plain-oatmeal-for-breakfast-music. The earliest rendition of the Bryant classic Love Hurts can't save the album either. So Baby, What Do You Want Me To Do? 1*

Meh, not my thing

In dieser Liste - und sonst auch - überflüssig.

There will be no second

If the only somewhat memorable song on an album is done a lot better by other people later, I don't think this album should be on the list.

couldn't finish

This is the drizzling shits.

Probably amazing in its day but it sounds old and I'm not having it.

I’m not a fan of this ‘rock around the clock’ 50’s/60’s teen boppy music at all. Every track on this album is as expected after listening to the first couple. They all stick to the same script and they bore me to tears. 1 Star!

Just sounds dated. So so so dated. Am sure it is good, just not for me.

Yeah... I mean.... yeah.
