I’ve rated this higher than I expected for a couple of interesting tracks towards the latter part of the album, the lead guitar is preventing this ever going beyond a 2 though
Almost got a mark for the music - but the lyrics are such a negative any redeeming qualities of this album are lost. Not feeling guilty about stopping this listen halfway through
Despite being a well known name, I had next to no knowledge of Lenny Kravitz’s music & had no idea what to expect. Just felt incredibly generic & didn’t keep my attention at all
Seems fine - nothing catching my ear though - simply soft rock background music
Oof - an album from the years I’d discovered my own taste in music, somehow ‘So Much For The City’ has been completely wiped from my memory. Seeing the album cover instantly brought back the chorus from Big Sur & Santa Cruz, delivering a wave of nostalgia. As the first track started, the rose tinted spectacles quickly crashed to the floor. In my mind this album had come before the downfall of indie; this was going to be on a parallel with The Coral, in reality it was much closer to The Kooks; perhaps proto-landfill-indie. How this obtained a place amongst the 1001 albums is a mystery.
Could appreciate its significance and tell the influence it had, but in itself, didn’t do a lot for me.
Always feel I should like Rocket from the Crypt, from a surface listen it seems like it’s in my wheelhouse. But it never clicks, high energy but a little paint by numbers.
Oh good, a self-indulgent 20 minute opening track. Inspired by Ayn Rand? Perfect… I’m committing myself to listening to every album on this list, most of them multiple times in the day. 2112 only needed to be heard once.
