omg, why did I actually like this album?

The first album I've rated 5 stars. More chill and relaxing than I expected from jazzy horns.

She has a great voice; there is no disputing that. But the majority of songs by her that I know are obsessive, stalker-like songs. "I keep calling hundreds of times to tell you I'm sorry, but you never pick up the phone!" Girl, get a clue. "Hey, I know you're married now, but I'll never find someone like you - not trying to ruin your relationship or anything, tee hee." Again, girl, tone it down. The non-stalker songs on this album were boring and similar-sounding. You're 25; stop wishing you were young again and move on with your life.

When your drunk uncle brings his harmonica at Thanksgiving and expects you to listen to his rambling thoughts while holding the pumpkin pie hostage

No one, and I do mean no one, has any reason to turn a 3 minute song into a 21 minute song. Ever.

Great voice but I just didn't like the songs at all

Picked up a lot of vibes from this album: dentist's office, outer space, Deliverance, construction site...

A couple of songs sounded different than the rest, but other than those, it's just another punk album that sounds like every other punk album out there.

What even is this genre?

Some of the songs I liked, and some sounded discordant. Kind of felt like two disagreeing genres.

Apparently, folk is a genre I don't like. Why does it always sound like drunken men waxing poetic about nothing?

Typically something I would enjoy but this one was not great.

All three great singers but this album just bored me :(

I like rap music. I appreciate the genre, the lyrics, and the message. But this one... this was rough for me. The beats are great, and Snoop has the kind of flow that I'm here for. But given the state of the US today, this really sounded like the conservative narrative about why non-whites don't deserve to be treated like humans. So much commentary about murder, looting, sexual assault... and maybe it has a deeper meaning for the culture (of which I am not a part) beyond the way it sounds. Maybe that's the point; it's relevant to those who live it and just a banger for those who don't. It's certainly not something that I would feel comfortable singing along to, although I did listen to it at work. (I'm a rebel.) Enjoyable, yes, but it was difficult too.

Having really only heard one song by him, this was an interesting mix of styles.

I ended up listening to a 30 song version of this album, which was about 15 songs too long. Their rendition of "(Love is Like a) Heat Wave" was terrible. I can't distinguish between the British invasion bands anymore because they all sound the same. Still, not the worst thing I've listened to of the list.

Unoffensive and boring, perfect for elevators and offices. +1 for the album cover though.

To me, who listens to the 1001 albums while working, this is the best kind of focus music. It keeps me on task while providing a beat that makes me bob my head. Definitely my style but I totally get the bad reviews. It's looooong.

I already knew and enjoyed Michael Franti's music, but I honestly had never heard of this group. Wow. There's some powerful imagery and heavy lyrics to get through, but I loved it. Spotify is missing 4 tracks, as is Apple Music (I believe), but the ones that are available are definitely worth a listen.

Massive Attack is one of my top 5 artists. While this is not my favorite of their albums, I still love it.

I'd give it a 3.5, but it didn't go over the line for me to make this 4 stars. I liked it, to my surprise. I'd probably listen to it again if it came on. But I have found that I do not like that 70s guitar sound. I'm not sure if it's the recording (this isn't the only album or artist) but it sounds scratchy to me.

Honestly would've been 5 stars if it hadn't had four different (yet still identical) versions of Girl From Ipanema. Plus I just listened to Astrud Gilberto's album a few days ago; I've had enough Girl From Ipanema at this point.

This is why I'm doing the 1001 Albums - finding little gems like this that I would be very unlikely to find on my own. It's a fun album with a really unique sound.

I don't know that I'd seek him out for a listen, but it was kind of pleasant (except the last song).

Repetitive, as disco tends to be, but some slower pieces too.

Much slower and more ethereal than some of their other albums, but it's still a nice listen.

There are some gems on here (I particularly liked Raghupati for its style), but a lot of sitar music sounds pretty similar to me, so I didn't love it.

I love trip-hop, and I think Elizabeth Fraser has one of the most unique, beautiful voices in the genre. That say, I really couldn't get behind this album. I'm not sure if it's because she's not actually saying anything (she's literally just making mouth sounds) or it just didn't jibe with me. I don't dislike music in languages I don't speak, so perhaps fake words shouldn't bother me, but overall I wasn't into this album as much as I expected.

They're like Rage Against the Machine, if Rage was a high school garage band, Zack hadn't yet had his voice change from puberty, and they sucked.

The beats are great, and Kanye actually has good flow. But his whiny voice and his perceived sexual prowess (as evidence by almost every song being about sex) really killed the vibe.

I like Björk better if I don't try to understand it.

He has a surprising number of albums with "genius" in the title. Seems a little pretentious, but it's really not. This album was great. I definitely prefer his old stuff (young voice) to the newer. Definitely worth a listen or two.

It's okay. I just can't get into their style.

Not the worst thing on the list. The first 10 songs were not bad, but once you reached track 11, it went downhill fast.

Oof. Look, I lived through the grunge era and didn't hate the music. But apparently when this 2 hour and 18 minute album was released, I was still hooked on Bon Jovi or Dire Straits or something. This was not pleasing at all.

Definitely will listen to more by Stan Getz. This was nice.

One of the last couple of songs reminded me of Metallica. The rest was very meh.

Hated it a little less than the last Bob Dylan album I heard, but I wouldn't say I'm becoming a fan.

Man, I miss the 80s.

Well. That was an album. But the literal worst intro to the lead track because it sounded like someone was being murdered.

Good beats but the lyrics are very typical of every rapper: I'm a sex god, nobody's better than me, my rhymes are epic. Honey, douche and bush do not rhyme. Still, Big Poppa is a banger.

The charting songs are the good ones; the rest are meh.

I enjoyed the second half better than the first. Overall not bad.

I never listened to Pink Floyd growing up. They weren't on my radar, and I guess I had some weird perception about them, like they were a genre of music I like (although I have no idea what that genre was). They've come up twice so far, and I'm so impressed. I wish I'd been listening to them longer. There was part of a song on this album that I didn't like (not a fan of whiny guitar solos), but I'll definitely be checking out their entire library. It's never too late to find a new band or song!

I'm honestly not entirely sure why U2 is so popular, at least based on this album. Everything feels... safe. Like they weren't trying to do anything cool or groundbreaking or even emotional. It's just basic, blasé pop rock. Totally middle of the road. I could listen to it again. I could also shelve it and never play it again. My life would not be any different with any choice. It's just meh.

I didn't know there could be a more stream-of-consciousness artist than Bob Dylan, but in comes Slint. I actually liked the album; it's very mellow and chill. The lyrics aren't deep or anything, and it really feels like they just started a whole jam session by talking about random stuff and goofing off on their instruments. But it works. Kind of reminds me of Morphine.

The first half of the album was decent. The second half was less decent.

Living during this time was wild. Love it or hate it, Nirvana changed the whole music scene. I never really listened to them when they came out (or thereafter), and shamefully this is my first exposure to the full album. The first half was really enjoyable. The second half was okay but not my jam. (On A Plain sounded like a sped up version of Come As You Are.) Still, it's a cultural icon.

Probably need headphones to get the full experience, as the vocal track seems much quieter than the instrumental track, but the general vibe of the album is good. Not anything different than any other The Cure album, so you know what to expect.

This album is so deliciously weird.

I absolutely hated (hated!) the first Brian Eno album I heard on this project, but this one was more interesting, perhaps because of the juxtaposition of cool African beats and crappy experimental music. The lyrics are weirdly religious, but I could tune those out for the most part. Some of the tracks are unnecessary and stupid, but I will say I am surprised at how I didn't hate this album. Against my better sensibilities, I'll give it a 3.

Enjoyable, but it has two things working against it (based on my preferences): live and way too long. Like excessively long. I get that it was essentially a concert recording, and I'm sure it would have been amazing to attend in person regardless of length, but it loses some of that when you're listening at home. Tons of great tracks though. The orchestra really enhances it.

I think a lot of Taylor Swift fans believe evermore and folklore (the covid albums) to be her best albums (to that point). In my opinion, this was the start of her descent into... whatever she's doing now. The songs feel so boring, like she's using flowery language to sound impressive, and writing from a perspective that's intentionally confusing. It was fine as an album, but it was so lackluster to me that I don't really care if I ever listen to it again.

The album title gave me an impression of dark metal; the actual album is folksy and twee, two things I don't like at all. This is the type of music you listen to at naptime.

Not a dub step album lol. It's like drunken sailors from the deep south having a good time. My ears didn't have a good time though.

I had no idea UB40 has been around as long as it has, so that was impressive. A lot of the songs on this album felt too long and repetitive for my liking.

This album was huge when I was a teenager, but I was never into it beyond the singles. It still surprises me how popular Oasis is (#102 in the world on Spotify).

I kind of enjoyed this. Sounds like a militant Rammstein.

This one mostly bored me which was sad because I dig Sarah Vaughan.

She has a nice voice, but some of the lyrics are either boring or inflated, and I wasn't a fan of either.

I'm not really a fan of story songs, and that's pretty much all this album is. That and lamenting over the fact that he couldn't bag a virgin.
