Not super into reggae in general but it was fine. Listenable and all.

Great folky sounds. Probably too depressed to really take it in properly

Man out of time. But solid outing in terms of what I would expect a post rock and roll Elvis album to sound like

I’ve listened to some other Kate Bush before, and it feels like this is the album that a lot of her reputation from when I was a kid comes from. It’s ok, but not as good as some of her other work. You can see the massive influence this one had on Tori Amos and the swine Amanda Palmer. Also her Australian accent on the song The Dreaming might be considered a hate crime

This is one of those records I’d heard the single off of a million times, absolutely loved, and yet never listened to the album. It’s ok, but not as good as “Dreaming of you” would suggest

This album is firmly of an era, and unfortunately it’s a horrible era. Terrible sounds, awful mix, boring yacht rock grooves.

Great groovy record for a Friday afternoon. I know this isn’t anything that hasn’t been said before but even outside of the power of her voice, the smoothness of it is incredible

I don’t think I’d ever listened to a full Michael Jackson record before. Couple of all timer songs on here too. Maybe not my favourite genre or anything but the sheer confidence of this record is so impressive

Solid record which you can hear the influence on everything else it had. Sounds dated now but that’s due to everything else ripping it off

Peak Sabbath. The fourth record in their unimpeachable five album run it’s a perfect distillation of once they’d settled into being stars and started hovering up all the coke in the world, but hadn’t let any of that destroy them yet. Supernaut is a phenomenon

The first album on this list to actually make me angry I had to listen to it. Absolute dreck

One of my all time favourite records.

I really enjoyed this. I’ve not listened to a lot of ENO so I was expecting this early album to be a lot more glam but it’s already moving on from it. Grouse stuff

Tom Waits is one of those artists that I feel like I should know more of their work just don’t. After listening to this I’m just going to continue on thinking that I should definitely listen to more of his work one day. In the future.

I’m going to give this four stars for the title alone. The music is fine, sort of that big bandy stuff you’d hear in the background of bewitched

Muse are never quite as good as I want them to be. This is probably their best record too. Knights of Cydonia is a tune though

My first DNF. It’s not on Spotify, and dear lord it was not worth the extra effort to listen on YouTube. It’s rare that an artist or group lives up to its reputation but this is an incredible exhibition of complaining over middle of the road jangly guitars. Blergh

I do the love Buzzcocks. This is a little rougher than their later stuff yet so perfect as power pop

Ahh the darkness, man this record is not great. Too unfunny to be parody, too contrived to be sincere. Boo.

I’ve been avoiding this album for years because I had a bad first impression of it back in the day. Surprisingly brilliant. Maybe I just had to grow up a bit to appreciate it

Obviously a classic but had started getting a little too bluesy for mine.

Dour, sparse, boring. Maybe this was pop music in 2013 but it hasn’t aged well. Stripped of context it’s just dull

Excellent and moody record. You can hear exactly where Josh Homme got influenced for the back half of his career

Fun groovy record

A wonderfully weird pop record. Octopus is a classic

I think this record has the same issue with it now as when I originally heard it back in the day, it’s just too long. There’s some real highlights but it gets bogged down

I’d always heard about this record featuring African sounds quite prominently however I didn’t realise how little he does with them. Like it’s just standard Paul Simon songs with some bongos.

Cracking rock and roll album

This was fun, a twist on some western hits

Truly awful. Boring, slow to the point of dragging, no energy to even sustain the vibe they’re going for

Classic of the era. Mostly holds up but it was explosive when it came out

What can you say, the start of the next wave of rock and a view into what they’ll do going forward. Not perfect but they get there

I’m not a jazz fan and so I can’t judge this on any real level of expertise, but shockingly I couldn’t get into this. I quite like instrumentals, but nothing here grabbed me

It’s alright, Pink Floyd leave me a bit cold in the main. Couple of tunes that are great. Otherwise just kicks along

Surprisingly good record. I remember when it came out and it was massive, but I never listened to it. Could do without the rambling sections but otherwise cracking

I’d never actually listened to this and it’s surprising how much better the rest of the record is over rock lobster, and I don’t even mind rock lobster.

Man, I wish the smashing pumpkins worked for me just a little more. This is the their best album in my opinion and the singles are incredible. There’s just something not quite bang on about the album tracks. Thankfully shorter than Melancholy and the infinite sadness though

Banging

Classic of the era. It was hard to believe that they were going to top white blood cells and yet here we are

Janey’s got a gun is such a weird song. They clearly NEEDED a hit and they just throw everything at it.

Always wanted to listen to more Mudhoney. Fairly disappointed by the result. Fairly standard album

I’ve tried over the years to figure out why these guys don’t really do it for me and I’ve never been able to quite put my finger on it. Listening to this I think it’s maybe that I’ve heard other bands do what they do better than this. A lot of this album is somewhat reminiscent of Supergrass’ first album but not as catchy or immediate.

Good record but one of their more meandering efforts

Not catchy enough to be good, not metal enough to go hard. Just a dirgy middle ground

While not a huge RHCP fan this record reminded me of what I liked about them back in the day. A lot more fun than later offerings, and it sounds like a million bucks

I listen to a lot of these records while I’m working. Sometimes it really drags me away and sometimes it’s so low key I don’t even notice them. It’s not this records fault but I just don’t remember it at all

I remember a pal bringing this record to a party after we’d heard fire starter and everyone being thoroughly disappointed that it wasn’t on there. In fact outside of a copy of singles it just proper dance music. It’s very solidly done but nothing in the way of tunes if that’s what you’re looking for

Straight classic

I do enjoy bossa nova. Just a cruisey way to start the day

I don’t know why, but XTC just don’t work for me. Like so great songs, but I think in general it’s just the singer’s voice

I don’t mind a bit of ole Frank. This is a more down beat record than some, but perfect for an evening

Fuck Kid Rock

Really great grooves and playing. Strong voice but there’s something about the tone that doesn’t quite work for me on some of the songs.

True classic. The first side and a fair bit of the second are unimpeachable classics. European son goes on a bit but I think we can forgive that

Pretty fine folk rock sort of thing. Too many guitars make all the songs fairly busy. It was alright, nothing you can’t hear better versions of elsewhere, but there’s certainly worse out there

Man, I love Harry Nilsson a this is by far his best record. Jump into the fire is a stone cold classic

The last great White Stripes record. By this point they’d moved from where they started to a whole other thing and it worked so well.

Another classic, but weaker than both the album that comes before and after. But you can’t deny some of these songs are some of Bowie’s best

An absolute masterpiece, and rightfully the album tha really put them on the map, setting up the success of Elephant.

There’s something naff about Queen, but this is probably (in my opinion) their best era. Sci-fi, operatic and some fun tunes

All time classic. From the first song til the last

There’s some good songs on here but I was disappointed when it came out. The movement away from garage rock doesn’t super work for me as well. Still, tunes

I like Neil Young. This one was one of the cruisy albums and that’s nice on a Monday morn

One hit wonder bandwagon jumpers. I guess the mix is perfectly replicated from better bands so they’ve pulled that off

Very serviceable classic country songs. However it’s killed by the late eighties production. Everything is so gated and compressed, whereas the records that this is modelled on were just instrument to tape with tracks bleeding across and mistakes and so forth. It just makes it all too clean

It’s hard to rate these classic albums sometimes because you’ve heard bits and pieces of them a billion times and it’s hard to come at them with fresh ears. Anyway, lotsa good songs on here

Incredible song writing but I find in general ABBA songs are most enjoyed one at a time while drunk

Solid record

It’s funny (and expected) with the absolute earth shattering influence this album had how old fashioned it sounds. I would have thought there’d be less obvious run DMC influence but here we are. Also went about twenty minutes too long

An excellent example of marketing outpacing actual artistic ability. Beautiful people is a tune and the drummer is great, otherwise fairly stand heavy late nineties music

Swagger in need of a hook

Pretty great. Second wave British metal isn’t as good as the first but still pretty neat

I never got Buckey’s popularity and now after listening to it I still don’t. Straight line from this to John Mayer

Funk metal really had a moment there didn’t it? Wayne’s World metal really. Anyway, these guys are well respected in the genre and everything and they’re obviously very good players but it leaves me cold.

The CEO of the company I used to work for was in the middle of a midlife crisis that lead to the end of his marriage and him eventually getting kicked out of the business by the board made the entire company sit in silence and listen to this record once

An album that at the time of release really straddled the line between the genres of “albums you’d hear at a party” and “albums you’d hear in your mum’s car”

Miserable and dull

God I wasn’t up for this today. Heavy as hell, and the two singles particularly are great

There’s such a gulf between the really good songs and the ok songs on this record. Basically every time they pull out the Burundi style beats you’re in for a good time. Having said that, the highs of this record are so high you’re in for a treat
