The Slim Shady LP
EminemMan, it goes on far too long. Even more misogynistic than I remembered
Man, it goes on far too long. Even more misogynistic than I remembered
Not super into reggae in general but it was fine. Listenable and all.
Great folky sounds. Probably too depressed to really take it in properly
Man out of time. But solid outing in terms of what I would expect a post rock and roll Elvis album to sound like
It’s just jazz, if that’s your thing
Pretty good. Makes me want to listen to more Cohen
Man, it goes on far too long. Even more misogynistic than I remembered
McCartney writing hits. Some fun songs but a lot of granny music
Absolute classic of my teenage years. Probably Pavement’s best record in my book.
Interesting harmonies and a couple of neat studio tricks. Otherwise exactly what you’d picture from a beach boys record
Pretty cool, but the production is too smooth. Irons out any life it could have. I don’t remember, maybe that’s the point
Pretty much as I remember it but which the benefit of being twenty something years older I can see how juvenile the whole thing is. Well put together but ultimately nothing to say
Great record. Mix of country/ folk/ space sounds
Awesome record, first time I’d listened to it and it’s exactly what you would think it would be in the best possibly way
Pretty good record, production is a good example of post ill communication hip hop. I dug it more than I thought I would.
I want to like this album more than I do. I think there’s a basic level on which Prince operates that doesn’t work for me somehow. The mix is terrible. Ah well
Not my thing. The dude with the deep voice always sounds like he’s going to say “rubber baby buggy bumpers.”
I would have enjoyed this more if I’d not listened to the Kick Inside by Kate Bush recently. Good record but impossible to review on its own merits
Really enjoyed this. Beautiful vocal melodies. The nuclear powered snare drum took a little to get used to but otherwise great
I find this sort of stuff soulless and forgettable. But, you know, different strokes for different folks and all.
Cruisy lowkey groove for a Monday. The best song is the most well known but otherwise nice and relaxed
Picture a Metallica album, that’s And Justice for All. Well played, gets samey after a while. One is a still a tune though
This was perfect. Right on the line of insane and danceable.
Seriously what an album. Iggy at his peak, Bowie at his peak. Goddamn it, so alive and perfect
Not as fun as the title track suggests. Pretty cool record though, fun grooves but as with all prog bands has a tendency to drag after a while
There’s nothing about this album that can be said that hasn’t been said before. It’s a masterpiece of sixties pop and well worth your time. Every time another McCartney song has you wondering if the whole record is going to be this twee Lennon arrives with something perfect
Reeling in the years is a tune, the rest of it was fairly nondescript
Super solid record with some absolute classics on it.
I’ll have to give this another spin in the morning. It sounds like the kind of record I’d actually like to sit down and listen to free of distractions
I’ve listened to some other Kate Bush before, and it feels like this is the album that a lot of her reputation from when I was a kid comes from. It’s ok, but not as good as some of her other work. You can see the massive influence this one had on Tori Amos and the swine Amanda Palmer. Also her Australian accent on the song The Dreaming might be considered a hate crime
Very much enjoyed this
Absolute classic of my youth. We’re not supposed to and strange ones are go tos here outside of the singles.
This is one of those records I’d heard the single off of a million times, absolutely loved, and yet never listened to the album. It’s ok, but not as good as “Dreaming of you” would suggest
This album is firmly of an era, and unfortunately it’s a horrible era. Terrible sounds, awful mix, boring yacht rock grooves.
What an album! Several greatest hits tracks on here. Part of the second great run of the Stones. Get amongst it
Great groovy record for a Friday afternoon. I know this isn’t anything that hasn’t been said before but even outside of the power of her voice, the smoothness of it is incredible
I don’t think I’d ever listened to a full Michael Jackson record before. Couple of all timer songs on here too. Maybe not my favourite genre or anything but the sheer confidence of this record is so impressive
Solid record which you can hear the influence on everything else it had. Sounds dated now but that’s due to everything else ripping it off
Peak Sabbath. The fourth record in their unimpeachable five album run it’s a perfect distillation of once they’d settled into being stars and started hovering up all the coke in the world, but hadn’t let any of that destroy them yet. Supernaut is a phenomenon
The first album on this list to actually make me angry I had to listen to it. Absolute dreck
Maybe I don’t have the context as to why this is seen as so groundbreaking but it did nothing for me.
Nice record, really soothing and pretty
It was fine. I dunno, left me cold
This was pretty cool, very smooth. Undoubtedly a record that is supposed to be listened to at night. I wonder what drugs it was written with in mind? Certainly not a takeaway coffee on your morning commute
Very tough, of the times and all. The last track particularly was groovy as balls
Obviously this is regarded as some of the greatest jazz ever but I just can’t do it I’m afraid
One of my all time favourite records.
I really enjoyed this. I’ve not listened to a lot of ENO so I was expecting this early album to be a lot more glam but it’s already moving on from it. Grouse stuff
Such a great record. Teenage werewolf is an all time classice
Tom Waits is one of those artists that I feel like I should know more of their work just don’t. After listening to this I’m just going to continue on thinking that I should definitely listen to more of his work one day. In the future.
I’m going to give this four stars for the title alone. The music is fine, sort of that big bandy stuff you’d hear in the background of bewitched
I’ve enjoyed this album in the past but it just annoyed me today. It’s so wordy and for some reason that’s an issue today. Anyway
Some real tunes on here. The problem with it for me, and it’s not unusual of albums of the era is that it just goes on too long.
Quite enjoyed this
Muse are never quite as good as I want them to be. This is probably their best record too. Knights of Cydonia is a tune though
Look, very exciting when it came out but it’s lost a lot of its punch over the years
A fun and smooth way to start the day. Not really my thing but I quite enjoyed myself. Excellent musicianship
Hell of an album. One man’s quest to make the perfect record. He just about does it too.
Just not my thing
