Reviews (page 15 of 15)

I have similiar feelings to Meat Loaf as I do Queen, although Meat Loaf's voice is less annoying than Mercury's. Too many of the songs go on for too long with the sole purpose of building to one last crescendo where Loaf can impart one more of his sub retarded idioms e.g 'two out of three ain't bad', 'you took the words right out of my mouth, it must have been when I was kissing you'.

Enjoyed this more than I should.

Typical American pop/rock, musics over produced and I just can't stand his voice!

Some fun tunes but feels like it takes itself too seriously at times in thinking it's an operatic masterpiece, the ballads especially. Top artwork, though. Best track: Bat out of Hell

Incredible artwork and Bat out of Hell is and epic song and the live version at the end of the album is even better. But apart from this the other tracks don't really measure up in comparison.

hi name is robert paulson. cracking set of badongas. this is what all of that 70s crap we've had to endure is trying to do. unashamedly cheesey, it knows its not serious which makes it mildly enjoyable.

people did a lot of drugs in the 70s

It's meatloaf, it's old lady rock

There's a reason this is one of the best-selling albums of all time. Very enjoyable and fun, such that even the 8 minute+ songs never seem to drag on. Saved: Bat Out of Hell, Paradise By the Dashboard Light

Saved Prior: Paradise By the Dashboard Light Off Rip: Bat Out of Hell, You Took The Words Right Out of My Mouth, All Revved Up with No Place to Go, Two Out of Three Ain't Bad Cutting Edge: None Overall Notes: Look. Turn your sophisti-brain off for 46 minutes and 31 seconds and enjoy this album. Is it the most incredible, world-changing music ever? No. Does it need to be to be an eminently enjoyable album? NO. This album is so fun and anyone who hates on it needs to lighten up. 4 stars.

A load of old bollocks.

A guilty pleasure. Very catchy and liked the pianos but did take itself too seriously at times.

Why are the songs so damn long

Production: 12/20 Songwriting: 8/20 Innovation: 10/20 Bangers: 10/20 Emotional response: 8/20 =48 I don't really have much of an opinion about it. It is what it is.

It's weird to write that in an album with only 7 songs, it feels like there's so much padding. Steinman wrote 2 really good songs and handful of others to make it an album, which brings the whole thing down.

It's fucking Meatloaf! Of course it gets 5 stars. That was my review before actually listening to it. My God, what a colossal heap of shit this is. Music for jockeys who've had too much cocaine.

Pretty good album. These songs are all very grand and rockish. 1RS

Nou vooruit, vanwege nostalgische redenen toch nog 2 sterren vanwege Paradise by the Dashboard Light.

Terrible

Eigenlijk best lekker. Veel beter dan ik verwachte!

Just a wild ride throughout. Not a particularly great album but its not supposed to be. Its supposed to be loud, weird and fun which it absolutely nails. Went in with low expectations bc all the jokes about Meatloaf, but turns out I was taking myself too seriously with my expectations. Actually I take back what I said about it not being good. Its very good musically and just fun overall. This would be my third album on a desert album if it was just a bit longer.

We have a winner! This is the first real rock re it’s I ever owned for myself. It was a gift from my older brother on my 13th birthday. He later told me many time he regretted the gift, as I played it over, and over, and over... superbadass! “Bat out of Hell”. That song rocks. This is a big album with big vocals guitars, and operatic aspirations. Love Weird talking vocal intros, the broadcaster play-by-play near the dashlight and the overall vibe that at the time seemed like a new version of rock music. If you’ve never seen the Paradise video with Ellen Foley, it’s worth checking out. This is a solid 4 but I’m rounding up a whole star because of a very heavy nostalgia factor.

extremely corny and felt very long. Has some fun parts tho. 6

The beginning was stronger than the end, or maybe the style just got a bit old. All in all v enjoyable and pretty fun, had St Elmo's Fire vibes

Pleasant surprise!

not a fan, but it's not bad 3/5

This is so lame but I actually kind of appreciate that.

absolutely cracking album, again id give it a 4.5 but i cant so imma give it a 4 because its not quite a 5 star - didnt really got a lot of variety but what i did get was a whole load of good music

"You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth" is honestly a really fun song, but the decision to include that first minute about offering your throat to the wolf was a very strange one indeed. 7.

Yo, Meatloaf is the Bruce Springsteen for theatre kids! So as a theatre expat I loved this album so much. I could not help but picturing every song being performed on stage. It was just dripping with melodrama so you could feel the light-hearted cheesiness of it, but Meatloaf's impressive pipes just drove it all home with gravitas. Expanding on my Springsteen claim, I felt the driving bright piano all over this album is so common on "Born to Run," and the musicality in general was very reminiscent of the E-Street Band. Learning that these songs were written by a composer came as no shock to me.

Too much heavy

Beasty 3.33

Disgusting

I mostly enjoyed this album, minus the talking part at the beginning of the second track. It's not really my vibe so I don't think I'll ever listen again, but I enjoyed listening to it!

Not good

A little more my speed. I knew a few of the songs but it was not an album I had listened to all the way through. Very dramatic and like a musical. Reminded me of rocky horror picture show.

Rock con mezcla. Recuerda a un músical.

Hilarious and dramatic while still sounding good. 8

At least when Soft Cell were terrible they had the decency to be terrible in short 3-minute bursts. Bloated, self-involved, unlistenable hot garbage.

Really really boring

Hell yeah! Motivation!

Super cheesy and theatrical pop rock/prog rock. Couldn't dislike it if I tried, 9/10.

Surprisingly good!

What a fun ride Bat Out Of Hell is! I am having visions of theater kids in the 70s getting so stoked to hear this record and perform its songs. It's definitely a helluva rock-n-roll musical and really made me smile this morning. I liked it as a whole, but You Took The Words Right Out of My Mouth and Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad are my favs. I know more now why Meatloaf was made fun of and why he is beloved by his fans. What a killer show he must have done back in the day!

Eh. Intro song good but otherwise not for me.

Why have I not been listening to Meat Loaf my whole freaking life? These songs have been stuck in my head all day. Rock operas are cliche now but I think this is the pinnacle of that achievement. One reviewer once said that this was "Grand Guignol pop", and that is also appropriate.

Decepcionantemente blando. Melódico.

Easy five stars. This album is operatic, cheesy, over the top, wonderful. I knew meatloaf but had never really taken the time to go through this record. It feels like a proto-power metal album, even including a song that could have been a hit if not for a weird spoken word opening minute. This is my shit, embrace the kitsch and lean in.

Cornball from start to finish, but Paradise by the Dashboard Light is so ridiculous, it alone brought this up to a 3.

Cheese af. Not the kind of thing I enjoy listening too normally.

I don't especially like it, but I'm glad this album exists. It's a very bold album with big ambitions and it's unabashedly theatrical, and I appreciate its sincerity. It's just that in spite of all that, it doesn't try to *do* anything and doesn't really go anywhere or explore any interesting ideas. Combine the uninspired and cliched lyrics with mediocre melodies, and you get a 3/5 album.

Sorry, I hate this kind of bombastic, theatrical rock'n'roll. It's literally one of the most boring forms of music for me.

Surprisingly cheerful in spite of all the hellish imagery, hits the vein of 80s ballad rock right in the middle. Complete with a healthy helping of theatrical cheese.

I like this kind of operatic rock music. And albums that progress and have a theme, and songs with multiple medodic shifts in tone

Great musicianship. Not my cup of tea though.

Too proggy, did not vibe

Pretty damn decent. Every song had a mission statement and it was more like a musical thematically, a bit like a rock opera. And he has a great voice. I’m rating it higher than I normally would because of Paradise which is a classic.

My dad favorite album

Surprisingly excellent - rock opera all the way

Interesting reading on the wikipedia page that a lot of people compare this to Springsteen Born to Run. I wouldn't have thought that before, but I can definitely hear that. The difference is that Springsteen's music is more raw and nuanced. Meat Loaf comes across as sort of frantic and over-produced. Still an interesting and very listenable album though. 3 stars.

So I really like Meat Loaf. I knew that I liked that one song that came out in the 90s and got all popular, but I pretty much like all of this album as well. It’s got that sort of ballad-y sound that Queen has that I totally missed out on since I didn’t really listen to 70s music.

Really enjoyed it. Felt like a theatre production

really great

3 perfect songs, the others are equally great.

Fun to listen to but another I won't again.

Outstanding! I love Jim Steinman's over the top, theatrical way of writing. It's like listening to a movie. A silly one, granted, but the experience is always dramatic and such a thrill ride. To be honest, the album could have had white noise after the title track and my score would have been the same. Absolute beast: Bat out of hell Also awesome: You took the words tight out of my mouth

Hell of a ride! lots of instrumental magic not without progressive elements and slight glammy lipstick sputtering. lots of coquettish vocals, Michael's voice was maybe superior discovery for me, definitely captivating and talanted. Great choice for a highway rapid ride on. btw ballads are a bit tedious track picks- S/T, you took two words, all revved, paradise by dashboard light

I love this classic rock. loud theatrical style with passionate ballads. this shit meaty as hell. sick album cover too 🥩🥩🥩🥩🥩

so cool i thought it was very cool

album was good but the guy being called meat loaf brought it down a bit

Amazing as always!

Can see why. But not for me.

better than i thought

Fav Song: Bat Out of Hell

Not bad, but not in a rock mood today so I didn't listen to all of it.

It's all very epic and Meatloafy. It's fun enough, I did put off listening to it though. I've heard it a bunch before, and it's all just too over the top, and we've all heard it a billion times before. It belongs on the list just becuase of what it is, but it doesn't do much for me.

Day 37 of Albums You Must Hear... Meat Loaf has been one of music’s most unique artists for fifty years. He would record with Motown Records early in his career, he performed on Broadway in Hair and The Rocky Horror Picture Show (as well as the film). When Mr. Loaf decided to leave theater and pursue music full time, he had a hard time finding a record label that believed in him, he was just such a different character. Long story short, Bat Out of Hell was released in 1977, and would go on to sell 43 million copies globally, and break a few records along the way. Meat Loaf’s theater experience is what makes this album shine, it’s essentially a musical on wax. The vocals, the backing vocals, and genius arrangements are executed to perfection. Also, Bat Out of Hell has some of the best blues piano playing you can ask for!! Paradise By the Dashboard Light is a funky song that probably showcases the albums potential to its fullest. Two Out of Three Ain’t Bad is a great ballad that I’ve heard on the radio my whole life and it’s still good. You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth (Hot Summer Night) has some of those old Motown roots that I love. Bat Out of Hell, the song, is a nearly ten minute all out rock epic adventure. You can totally see the influence this music had on Jack Black. All Revved Up with No Place to Go breaks out the horns and has that Saturday night feeling that lots of music in the late 70’s wanted to capture. Bat Out of Hell II came out in the early 90’s and the cutest girl in my school loved Meat Loaf, so I obviously paid a little attention. I have to be honest, I thought this music was a little weird back then. Meat Loaf has grown on me over the years and he deserves all the recognition he gets and then some. He’s a great singer, actor and creator. I absolutely loved him in the film Fight Club. This album is legendary and I had fun listening to it! Please share your thoughts, memories and opinions!!

A couple bangers, a lot of cheese.

An apple a day

Long songs. Lowkey sounds like Fun. or Queen.

Pretty epic but queen we’re doing rock opera much better

i'm excited for this.. eh

too long on the first song and not a massive fan of the ballads

Very fun album. Only thing I really didn’t like was the weird intro on track 2. That creeped me out. Also wish it had Hot Patootie on it.

It’s obviously a masterpiece.

Intriguing soundstage with creative microphone placement and punchy rock tunes

Power ballad. A product of its time. Beautiful from start to finish.

Tom Rundgen

Pop/rock, storslået, Jim Steinman, velkomponeret, lange sange

Feels like a rock opera/musical and maybe it is but I haven’t paid much attention to the lyrics other than the weird furry dialogue. Dude can sing but not really my thing

Aikasemminkin tullut levy kuunneltua ”taustalla”, mutta nyt ajatuksella kuunneltua - Aivan timanttinen, täydellisyyttä hipova kokonaisuus

the album cover and title go hard. it was easy enough to listen to but i think some songs were a little too long. i wouldnt listen to it again but i didn't hate it, 2.5

Meh, so dated!

My fucking word that's awful. I couldn't listen to the whole album. Was just painful

An abolsute blast, but hard to take seriously (are we supposed to?) - I prefer this sound with Springsteen writing the songs.
