Proof that with Zappa, jazz is not dead, it just smells funny.

Ethereal and improvisational; this is the work that world forecast Morrison's depth and innovation as an artist as he headed into the 1970s. Fans looking for "Brown Eyed Girl" on repeat will be disappointed but this is a pinnacle of the blossoming singer-songwriter movement and it's the other side of the cultural coin.
Interesting as a concept but not as good as Original Pirate Material.

Ethereal and soothing.
Catchy songs but a hard act to follow post Thriller.
Great precursor to the music defining punk rock
Great sign of things to come from this legendary powerhouse
More melodic than anticipated. A more polished effort from a band known for being frenzied.

Eerie and accessibly brooding.
As good as any Bob Marley album
Bleak and not very accessible.
Proof that with Zappa, jazz is not dead, it just smells funny.
Interesting as a concept but not as good as Original Pirate Material.
Shows the band has range beyond the ska ties they are pegged to.
Repetitive and not as pleasing as Random Access Memories.
Dark and brooding - Misfits meets Duane Eddy
On par with Mountain's first two albums.
More melodic than anticipated in spots.
A great primer on bluegrass and early country music.
More upbeat than the Idiot and more melodic than Pop's prior punk leanings.
Jazzier and more danceable before Bowie hits his artistic peak with the Berlin trilogy of Low, 'Heroes', and Lodger.
On par with Freddie Hubbard's "Red Clay" in terms of sound and scope.
Definite traces of Nick Drake and Richard Thompson with lilts of jazz.
Haunting and beautiful in conveying the depths of Dennis Wilson's talents. The drummer moves to the forefront and the results are huge!
Sparse and in the folk introspective tradition of Nick Drake and John Martyn
Harder edged than classic Smiths albums but Morrissey's distinct croon adds in unique color throughout.
From alternative to experimental, one of the band's best.
Joni shifts more towards experimentation and jazz. This culminates in her fusion effort \"Hejira.\"
Best sample record ever!
You can hear an apparent George Duke influence on this album.
Opera as rock and roll. Kudos to Todd Rundgren's stellar production!
Seminal 80s power-pop
Classic Waits, enhanced by a live audience.
Sounds of the future in an entirely accessible format. Also worth checking out Oxygene 2 and 3 albums as well!
Proves Womack is one of the giants of R&B. One of my favorite albums!
One of the best non-punk punk albums ever. Terse and direct, yet wholly original and thought-provoking. One of my all-time favorites!
Essential prog work listening and the best album of the Gabriel era of Genesis
A conceptual punk opus that shows that a band, already nearly 15 years in a career, is just getting started.
Led Zeppelin's best album - period!
A brooding masterwork
One of my all-time favorite albums. A fantastic blend of Irish folk and punk!
A little less moody than \"Solid Air,\" but no less emotionally provocative. \"Small Hours\" is a particular treat, guided by an ethereal atmosphere that is equal parts eerie and gorgeous.
A fusion masterwork. For more succinct companion listen to “A Tribute to Jack Johnson.”
