Reviews (page 8 of 8)
I guess you had to be there. It didn’t do much for me. But Alice never has.
- dated themes. Consistent.. but boring. - washed out mixing putting too much focus on wobbly vocals, not enough on mids. - bands known for pushing boundaries at the time don't age well because the boundaries keep being pushed.
15 year old me would have loved this album.
It was alright, just not my cup of tee
I feel like this is almost “guilty pleasure” for me. It’s just straightforward hard rock; it feels unchallenging to listen to, musically. The “shock rock” is in the lyrics and I honestly can’t care too much about a song about necrophilia; it’s too ridiculous to take seriously, especially when it’s such an awful song, musically. I really like the clean production; it’s nice to listen to classic hard rock mixes from before the brickwalled sound took over everything. Really like the album art. Favourite track(s): “Generation Landslide” (unironically), “I Love the Dead” (so bad it’s good).
Nije 1 samo zbog No more mr nice guy
It's pretty much bang on what you'd expect an Alice Cooper album to be. 'No More Mr. Nice Guy' is a banterous hit and the rest is that classic dark American rock. It's a shame for me personally because I know how much of a cult icon Alice Cooper is and he seems like a bit of a laugh but this kind of thing isn't really for me. Don't mind drunkenly singing along to these kinds of songs but that's pretty much where it ends. Some of the lead guitar and horns are nice though and it's a solid album for this kind of rock. I'd definitely go watch him live though, only to see him cut off his own foot and eat it or something.
Mundane, but that’s Alice Cooper
So so tedious.
It was good. Not my cup of tea, but it is what it is sir
Not for me. Gets an extra star for No More Mr Night Sky, a touching tribute to Sir Patrick Moore
Average in the start, more interesting as it goes, not so great at the end
I listened to this twice, admittedly while busy fixing servers on fire, but yet I was still unable to say anything here was amazing. Unfinished Sweet was quite a cool jam, and it was the only one that stood out to me. Giving this a 2. (2 for me means that I can see the appeal but it wasn't anything that stood out for me)
meh
No good.
Tylsää, ankeata humpparockia jossa ei jäänyt oikeastaan yksikään kappale päähän muutaman kuuntelukerran aikana. Aneemista rallattelua. Pari keskinkertaista hittibiisiä jotka tunnisin.
Gritty, hard rock, teatralsk, energisk
In 1973, Alice Cooper would have been considered shocking and depraved, what with the New York punk scene still half a decade away and the Slim Shady LP twenty years further still. By today's standards, he comes across as a bit goofy. Musically, this album is about as Q 104.3 as it gets, to the point where it gave me a bit of nostalgia for driving around suburban North Jersey in high school even though I'm not sure how much airplay it actually got. While I'd definitely leave it on if it the DJs at the Q decided to give it a spin, most of it is too similar to the other items on the '70s hard rock menu. Best song: Unfinished Sweet blows everything else out of the water with its multi-part structure, synth sweeps and jangly interpolation of the James Bond theme, and sounds like something Brian Eno would have come up with.
decent classic rock. nothing crazy good or bad
nah
I always associate Alice Cooper as an icon of occult and gothic influence in mainstream media. Seemed like he dressed in cloaks with over the top props of snakes and demons and stuff so I just assumed he was one of those performative goth rockers that was mostly dismayed in the media but opted to lean into it and ride the wave in an attempt to gain an audience. Not sure if this is warranted or just one of those things that I saw/heard once as a kid and never thought any further. Outside of maybe 3 hits I don't have much else about Alice Cooper to go on. I figured this album would be pretty heavy with some dark lyrics and standard genre tropes. A little surprised to find out its a pretty lame glam rock affair. No More Mr. Nice Guy is the best song and even that is just an OK radio hit. Otherwise its a batch of lame-o shock jams that miss the mark. They try to lean into some of the dark sleaziness but it all comes off as really cornball and dumb with dentist drills and whatnot. There's probably more to it when you take in a live show with whips, hatchets, dolls and fake blood but in terms of audio experience it was pretty damn cheesy. I get what this was going for and maybe it made a splash then, but it does not hold up 50 years later. A pretty laughably bad affair when it wrapped up with I Love The Dead. 1.48 stars
Alice Cooper? From Riverdale?
The type of shit that a certain person in my life will put on and unironically tell me is better than The Beatles. IYKYK. I FUCKING HATED THIS! The first 4 songs felt like AI music before their time, sonically boring, lyrically soulless, and produced like a wet fart. Unfinished Sweet was interesting until THE 20 SECONDS OF TOOTH DRILLING, RESULTING IN ONE OF THE MOST UNPLEASANT SONIC EXPERIENCES OF MY LIFE! The only song that I thought had any REAL merit was Generation Landslide with the cool intro, reasonable vocals, and catchy classic rock groove. The closer, I Love The Dead, was ok? Still very boring, but at least was aiming to be something, even if that something was edgy proto-4chan style humour about necrophilia. I will NEVER listen to this record again if I can help it. Standout Tracks: Generation Landslide (which is a 3 at best) Rating: ⭐️✨️
Theatrical glam rock built from chunky guitar riffs, steady mid-tempo rhythms, piano accents, and exaggerated sneering vocals drifts by like wandering through an overdecorated haunted theater after closing time—flashy and theatrical, but too sluggish and hook-starved to leave much impact. Despite its reputation, the album’s campy excess and calculated shock rarely generate real excitement. The songwriting feels more committed to spectacle than momentum, making the experience strangely inert.
No. Just no. I’ve never considered Alice Cooper a serious artist in any regard and now I know why.
didnt like it
i'm so glad this album sucks as much as alice cooper does as a person because i would have hated having to give him anything. this is gaudy as hell. "ahhh it's shocking look at the thematic content we're doing!!!" you were 35 when you released this album. this downright embarrassing. i don't really have anything to note about the music itself because it's extremely forgettable early 70s hard rock. not a damn thing that even kinda works here. what a hack.
I disliked this more than I expected. Ugh. 1
just. no.
Too much heavy rock on this list
Not for me. 1/5
I cannot figure out for the life of me to whom Alice Cooper appeals. Scary suburban rebel metal kids surely are not down with the theatrical and tongue-in-cheek lightweight cabaret. Are the dramarama kids interested in dipping their toes into necrophiliac dentistry? The shock is schlock and the rock is mock. Tries so hard, exudes corn, and I do not get it.
I don't like Alice Cooper and this album maybe moved the needle 1% towards appreciating him now.
I fucking hate this so god damn much
This album isn't all bad. I liked the piano in "Mary Ann," but unfortunately that's it. Alice Cooper sucks.
I was never a big fan of Alice Cooper tbh, except for a select few songs. Some really unique songs here. Fav song is ‘No More Mr. Nice Guy’.
A 3 hour train journey yesterday and the 42 minutes of listening to this was not ideal
Please stop
just listened to a couple songs
Adults who listen to Alice Cooper (or KISS) were the first Juggalos.
it was ok but gave me a dark scary vibe..."raped and freezing" ? i'm good...
1. hello -0 2. raped -0 3. elected - 1 4. dollar -1.5 5. zuueet - 1.5 6. guy - 1.5 7. Landslide -1.5 8. Sick -1 9. Mary - 0 10. Dead - 1
Million Dollar Babies by Alice Cooper tries hard to shock and impress, but the result feels hollow. The songs lean too heavily on theatrics and lack the depth or consistency to hold up as a strong album. What should feel rebellious instead comes across as gimmicky, leaving little replay value.
I was pretty disappointed when this popped up as the album of the day. I was never a fan back in the 70's/80's, as this is the kind of hard rock music I didn't really enjoy listening to. I decided to check out some of the reviews and it seemed some people were pleasantly surprised by how it sounded, so I was maybe a bit hopeful. The very beginning of the first song was a bit different sounding, and I was eager to listen more. Unfortunately it immediately then became exactly what I thought it would be, and I didn't like it at all. This is another example of hard rock from the time that still does nothing for me at all. There are so many bands that just sound the same to me, and it's that bluesy hard rock thing that feels very interchangeable, with no artist standing out as anything different (except the few who did more with it). There's also the usual misogyny of the genre that is such a turn off too. It's a 1.5 for me as it's not unlistenable, so it'll get a 2. Edit: I wrote this review while I was midway through the album. It became worse for me as it went along, with “I Love the Dead” just such a ridiculous song that dropped this down to a 1.
I did not like this one bit. It seemed so pathetic. Trying to be all edgy and angry and cool bit just sounding none of these things. I just cant square the image of Alice Cooper in waynes world with this perfomative shite
Not for me, also he's transphobic
Filth.
.. *not my FAVORITE.. in previous comments x Miles D (doctored is a T9 casualty) as for Alice Cooper - no space for him in my world, sorry he totally grosses me out and always has, no desire to listen to his music. not for me..
Not really what I expected, probably a bit better tbf. Still didn't enjoy it.
Hadn’t aged well
Billion Dollar Babies is the sixth, and most successful album by Alice Cooper. Alice Cooper was the chosen name of the band; the lead singer Vincent Furnier eventually assumed the name, eventually legally changing his name to Alice Cooper. Billion Dollar Babies is the band's most successful album. Cooper makes "shocking" glam rock, with tracks like "Sick Things," "Raped and Freezin," and "I love the Dead." They may have been regarded as shocking at the time, but sound campy and predictable a few decades later. The album includes one of the band's biggest hits - "No More Mr. Nice Guy" - but that song is not good enough to help an otherwise forgettable album.
Seemingly impossible to enjoy.
Never a great sign when it's midway through the second song and it already feels like a slog. Would love to know what puts an album like this on the list. I did enjoy Generation Landslide, though, so I'll bump it to 1.5 stars overall
What if the shittiest lamest rock star ever had a full marching band behind him. Fuck off.
Hack! Makes KISS seem authentic.
I feel actively dumber and less alive for having to listen to this edgelord bullshit. I would spend an entire review blasting each song but honestly, fuck you Alice Cooper, you’re not worth the effort.
eh dad rock don't care. singles are always good but otherwise whatev
Very little shock, very little rock. It's a guy in drag as someone with something to say. There's nothing here for me to enjoy here unfortunately.
Standard 70s rock stuff. Not much to comment on. Seems a bit pompous, but that was probably par for the course at the time. Reminded me of Santana in a few places. Not a compliment.
scuffed
Meh. No More Mr. Nice Guy and some other songs...
couldn't sleep to this, was kept forcibly awake
Never listened to Alice cooper, aside from the obvious tracks. This sounded pretty much exactly as I expected it to, no surprises at all. In fact, it was probably worse than I expected. Didn't enjoy it at all. I'm my mind Alice cooper falls into the same category as guns n roses. Designed to be edgy when in reality it just isn't. Posers 1.5
I really did not like this, which doesn't mean it's bad or anything. But it is immensely cheesy and I think only appeals to existing Alice Cooper fans or a specific subsection of (former) theatre kids. There are some interesting musical passages but what the fuck is "Raped and Freezin'"?????
Yeah, this ain't for me. Alice Cooper is just a 1970s edgelord to me. The music is slow, plodding, and just sounds like he's trying to be the scary voice at a Halloween haunted house
I just don't get Alice Cooper, but I am happy for those who do.
transphobes get 1 star
eww, no
The guitar was the only pleasant part of this.
One star for one good-ish song
That was pretty pants, wasn’t it
Billon dollar arse
Look out kids! The Alice Cooper comedy shock rock show is in town! Not my thing though. I'm off to the pub to watch the footy instead.
Boring.
Langweiliger glam rock
Ugh
Again, not for me.
Bleh
I really liked No More Mr. Nice Guy but the rest of the album was a bit too odd for me.
Wasn’t my vibe
Couldn't finish it. Annoying songs.
Gross.
As a child of the 70's/80's Alice Cooper was not my jam back then, and that hasn't changed. 1/5.
This was 100x better than Schools out and it’s still a 1/5
Me encanta la intro del Album
New Artist! Not for me! 1/5
1st song: okay this started out sounding decent and then got boring, old rock annoying voice zzzz 2nd song: excuse me what the FUCK sorry this is mostly p dumb and i don't really enjoy listening " Raped and Freezin' has been called a "hilarious and gorgeously catchy" take on the idea of sexual harassment by PopMatters's Jason Thompson." ?
not really my style, but "no more mister nice guy" is a great tune
Probably the worst album so far.
Man, I tried. I know people like this but this is just not made for me. - Did not finish -
Attention seeking cartoon like rock
He's a lot more artistic and experimental than I originally thought, but still, it sounds a little directionless. It's hard to piece together the pieces and view this as a whole thing.
This may very well be the least appealing album yet on this list… and I listened to Korn.
Kind of boring hard rock. Doesn’t do much for me unfortunately.
It didn't take long for me to turn this off. Not my thing at all.
no thanks, I tried, even the populars ones aren't good enough.
No shot
Nemam ja vremena baš za Alice Cooper. Ne sviđa mi se njegova glazba.
Not exactly what I expected from an Alice Cooper album. Although my listening experience in regards to Alice has literally only been the song ‘Poison’. I was expecting crappy 80’s ‘metal’ but instead got genuine rock songs way more, dare I say, tender and even listenable. In saying all of this I still found it pretty drab and not an album I could recommend. 1 Star!
Nah
Honestly, didn't care at all for this album. A few interesting pieces, some melodies and riffs I enjoyed, but overall very forgettable. I never listened to Alice Cooper before, and have very little desire to now. I hear he is a cool guy though, so good on him. True feelings: 1.3/5
Grow up
