Popular Reviews

Meat Is Murder by The Smiths

You either love or hate Morrissey...and I hate him. Hate is a strong word so I will just say I have never liked his whining sound.

Murmur by R.E.M.

Strong opinion but this does not belong on this list

Make Yourself by Incubus

Rap metal - there's a first time for everything but we have moved on. And so this feels tepid now.

1-Star Albums (62)

All Ratings (389)

Psychocandy by The Jesus And Mary Chain
Jul 20 2025

Tons of distortion, metal, and noise. Not my cup of tea, but I see why it may be a big deal.

Garbage by Garbage
Jul 22 2025

Some standout tracks for sure, but Version 2.0 is a more consistently solid and well-produced album.

On The Beach by Neil Young
Jul 23 2025

Neil Young is a god-like talent. I did not know this album but enjoyed very much.

Vol. 4 by Black Sabbath
Jul 24 2025

How timely with Ozzy's death. Never was into him or Black Sabbath so I appreciate the intro to a great album. Supernaut is a killer track.

1984 by Van Halen
Jul 25 2025

You can’t argue this album made lots of people rich, and so epic in one way. But essential?

The Specials by The Specials
Jul 26 2025

Guessing they put ska on the map but not great music.

Blue Lines by Massive Attack
Jul 27 2025

Good choice - Tricky is his prime!

Meat Is Murder by The Smiths
Jul 29 2025

You either love or hate Morrissey...and I hate him. Hate is a strong word so I will just say I have never liked his whining sound.

Superfuzz Bigmuff by Mudhoney
Jul 30 2025

Definitely deserves a place on this list. Grunge before grunge existed.

Ingenue by k.d. lang
Jul 31 2025

Meh

Murmur by R.E.M.
Aug 02 2025

Strong opinion but this does not belong on this list

Deja Vu by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young
Aug 03 2025

Sure, influential - let's go with that.

Paris 1919 by John Cale
Aug 04 2025

Somebody really needs to explain or justify why this album is on this list. This is why 1001 is really too many albums to consider which leaves the door open for "just okay" albums to get in.

Hms Fable by Shack
Aug 06 2025

Who dis? Never head of this band or album, and I would like to think I know "influential" things in music given my education and background. And after listen to the album, I still don't see it.

Neon Bible by Arcade Fire
Aug 07 2025

They have better songs. But the lead singer is cancelled now, right?

Fuzzy Logic by Super Furry Animals
Aug 08 2025

It created enough intrigue that I had to come back to it and listen to it a 2nd and 3rd time.

Blackstar by David Bowie
Aug 09 2025

Thanks for turning me onto this album. I don't think I would have listened to this - Bowie's newer stuff - but it was good.

3 + 3 by The Isley Brothers
Aug 10 2025

This definitely deserves to be on the list.

The Score by Fugees
Aug 13 2025

What an album - Lauryn, Wyclef, and Forte were creative supergeniuses!

Live At Leeds by The Who
Aug 19 2025

Who's great, and live recordings have their charm.

KE*A*H** (Psalm 69) by Ministry
Aug 20 2025

Damn fine album. Kinda forgot how incredible they were.

Exile In Guyville by Liz Phair

Dear Science by TV On The Radio
Sep 03 2025

I appreciate the revisit to this band! Solid sonic experience!

White Light by Gene Clark

Never heard of this guy so thanks for the introduction. Not my cup of tea, but still a worthy listen.

Back to Basics by Christina Aguilera
Sep 05 2025

Damn, can she sing!

The Atomic Mr Basie by Count Basie & His Orchestra

OMG. I already loved Count Basie but never heard this album before!

Timeless by Goldie
Sep 08 2025

Almost 2 hours I wish I could get back.

Purple Rain by Prince
Sep 09 2025

Well, you can't argue with Prince. A bit more shrieking than I want in some of my songs, though.

Another that I didn't need to hear before I died.

Sep 12 2025

No thank you

This is a no-brainer - wholeheartedly agree!

Sep 20 2025

Classic Willie

Pretty much their greatest hits, but it's an album.

At San Quentin by Johnny Cash
Sep 23 2025

Street Signs by Ozomatli
Sep 26 2025

Love Ozomatli, but hadn't heard this album before. Great fusion of sound styles.

Their instrumental stuff is best.

Pretty awesome and still stands up

Pink Flag by Wire
Oct 10 2025

Great energy - not my thing, but I can appreciate

Femi Kuti by Femi Kuti
Oct 12 2025

Probably pretty great when it first came out. But afro-pop has come a long way and this album sound bland in comparison.

Paul's Boutique by Beastie Boys
Oct 14 2025

They get a lot better after this album, but the roots of their sound start to emerge in this album. Love all the samples!

Woodface by Crowded House
Oct 16 2025

Did not need to hear this before I died.

Vivid by Living Colour
Oct 17 2025

Pretty rad!

Machine Head by Deep Purple
Oct 21 2025

Decent album - a bit of head banging rock combined with white guy funk

Grace by Jeff Buckley
Oct 24 2025

There are definitely 5+ star songs on this album which distort the grading scale...but, as a whole, it's lacking. His voice is both angelic and annoying at the same time. And he died way too young and this is all we really got from him, so that makes it precious as well.

Night Life by Ray Price
Oct 26 2025

Pretty great!

Joan Baez by Joan Baez
Oct 27 2025

Great voice - but not for me

Five Leaves Left by Nick Drake

Wowza!

Truth And Soul by Fishbone

Out Of The Blue by Electric Light Orchestra
Jan 26 2026

Another one that I am sure people love but it's not for me

Smash by The Offspring

Feb 17 2026
