LP1
FKA twigsI don’t know if this was just a refreshing change of genre after a week of dad rock, but I enjoyed this. Listened to it on a rainy drive home and found it both relaxing and intriguing, with lots of cool sounds for my ears to chase
I don’t know if this was just a refreshing change of genre after a week of dad rock, but I enjoyed this. Listened to it on a rainy drive home and found it both relaxing and intriguing, with lots of cool sounds for my ears to chase
I was saving this album for a glittery night of disco fun and was a bit sad to realize Bee Gees weren’t always the boogie they’re best known for bringing. I’m sure this album had more merit than my confusion allowed me to see, but ionno, not for me, man
Songs were a little hit or miss but overall a nice chill album that felt relaxing and easy to get through
Fire
I liked it when he was singing about his toys. I didn’t like it when he was singing about his 10-inch whatever….or really anything else. This was not good.
This one has some obvious classics and merit. Waaaahahay too long for me to ever want to listen to it in its entirety again but an impressive exposition nonetheless 🧐🤌
“Derek & The Dominos” as a name cracks me up. Right up there with “Freddy’s Formula.” Don’t really care for the music tho, boomer vacation vibes
Uplifting, but also loud
Cue album. A 13-year-old awakens. It’s 2004 and she’s sensitive, angry, and dabbling in a bit of emo and indie. Ohhh how that teen dances to the first few songs of this album, in a state of adolescent ecstasy. But around track 5, the trance shatters. A 31-year-old awakens. It’s 2022 and she hates “indie rock and roll.” …yeah overall feels kinda basic, but there are a few karaoke slappers that I still like. 3 stars.
Brings back memories of the first day of high school, lookin so cool and jamming on my Nano. Even though there are aspects about it that aren’t really my taste anymore like the vocals (sorry, Lane!!), I still think some of the songs slap.
Had never heard this album before, and had never really listened to The Pixies before—I think I’ve been missing out on something great. Loved how unpredictable every track was, and the way it would meander through such different sounds from punky-grungy to an almost dark, melancholy tone. Would definitely listen to this again.
Good lord this felt like an eternity. I’m stuck at someone’s theater performance and waiting for the curtain-fall to free me.
MISTER MOJO RISIN YOU GOT TO KEEP ON RISIN RISIN RISIN great album
Tis groovy. Panny says that he likes that it is subdued, predictable, and safe, and I agree. Like a stress ball for your ears. It’s pretty long... Definitely more of a background soundtrack for when you’re smoking doinks with chums or throwing a Ham Party.
Possibly a controversial opinion, I actually do like Neil Young…however this album isn’t my favorite. Some of the vocals just sound straight-up bad and only a few are songs that I’d ever go back and listen to. It didn’t help that he removed all of his music from Spotify and I had to sit through vibe-crushing Vrbo ads between every single song on YouTube. Also i think I’m hungry and cranky. 2.5/5 IMO
Ohhh I loved it, a few corny songs, but it had me in the second half.
Ohhh man I remember liking this album forever ago but struggle to get through it now... Mainly cuz Flav and the high-pitched, grating, repetitive samples of sirens, whistles, fireworks, and helium being released from a balloon. Maybe I’m just getting old but overall this was kinda headache fuel
Idk it’s Christmas music and it was fine. Merry chrimbas
I went into this thinking that I wouldn’t be a fan, walked out a convert. This was a charming, beautiful album that I’d return to when I need to soften up like churned butter
Feeling pretty neutral about that experience. Personally I felt like no songs were gratingly bad, but none were head-bobbingly good either. It’s an album that I’ve already begun to forget, but I’d give it a point for its creative diversity of sound, even if it’s not my cup of tea. 🍵
Slipknot conjures images of mid-2000s hallway juggalos, and I’ll admit from the safe distance of 20 years that I did have a few slipknot songs on my iPod in high school that I’d listen to in secret… but not this album. With this one, I gotta say: haaate the melodic clean vocals, album is too long, and the energy drops midway for me. But I do love a cute mask, chunky jugga jugga juggajuggajugga, and 2008 angst nostalgia. (Also dang, Snuff, you a sad song 😢❤️) Love this genre but overall lukewarm on this album, it’s a high 2 from me dawg
🎶give a man a fish, and he’ll eat for a day…🎶 had a fun time staining wood to this album but the repetitive choruses and religious overtones aren’t usually what I’m craving in music
I hate calling things hAunTiNgLY bEauTiFul but that’s it, that’s what it is. Very nice gloomy afternoon walk album
Funky n fun but doesnt do much more for me than that happy new year
Welly welly well well well i unexpectedly loved this album. A little dad-rocky, but enjoyed the constantly changing progression. I kept picking up details that could’ve influenced a ton of the music I listen to, across different genres. Heart of the Sunrise is where this album truly sends it for me.
I don’t feel good and this album gave me a headache but I feel like if I felt good this would be fun and jez me up. So I don’t know what to think, 2.5/5
This is the starter-pack music you show to a classroom of middle school prep students to teach them “Intro to Rock n Roll.” It is not the music you show to an old, tired woman doing a puzzle. By “Honey Whatchoo Do For Money” this album was a 1 for me. Painfully formulaic and even a breezy 42 minutes felt too long.
I gave this album 5 attempts, no exaggeration, and could not finish it. At first I thought, “oh this is different and fun” and within a couple minutes, it just felt like a weird, fevery nightmare soundscape that induced anxiety spikes. NAH THANKS
I actuallyyyyy sort of liked it. Vocals are annoying but I really enjoyed the shoegaze-y sound of it overall. Kinda comforting
I get that Coldplay has achieved somewhat of a meme status in popular culture, but as a sensitive crybaby Aquarian, I enjoy how watery and emotional this album is. It’s not like, something I’d ever wanna go see live, but yeah, it’s a good one to listen to while moping in front of a heater eating a tortilla.
Overall a pretty cool and unique album. Songs were a little hit or miss for me, but a few bangers on here for sure.
I love this album. Always reminds me of my dad driving us to school as kids, especially “Man on the Moon.” Blast that from the ‘96 Civic all dayyy
Not really my bag, but it was easy listenin’ and mentally delivered me to some mid-priced outdoor boomer eatery serving fish n chips and corona happy hour, and I think that’s where I needed to figuratively go tonight.
I listened to this album a lotttt in college, and I credit it for pulling me out of my black metal purist phase. Vocals are almost too ASMRy at times for me, but when she gets bold and Winehousian with it, GIIIRL. Beats, samples, and instrumentals, all very entrancing 🌀〰️🌀
This is Warm 106.9 plain yogurt served with 8-grain toast and a glass of 2% milk. A very 2.5/5
Well that was a fun psychedelic experience. It’s not something that I’d personally listen to on any recurring basis and I think the noisy chaos of it gave me anxiety, but points for creativity. I really have never heard anything uhhh like this
This bops
Lol @ Jared so THATS where my copy of this album went!! absolutely love this album. First was introduced to this set in my “anthropology of rock n roll” class 13 years ago and has been in my rotation since.
Enjoyed it. Thought some of the songs and covers were pretty interesting to listen to, and thought it ended with a nice banger.
Deez keys dey please. Beautiful, atmospheric, reminded me of a soundtrack. Lovely day to have ears
butt rock. boring. battlestar galactica.
You knowie I love that Bowie. Great album from start to finish. Golden Years will forever rip
I like the part where they say “didn’t I didn’t I didn’t I see ya cryin” but I could do without the rest
Never really been huge on Rush but appreciate its construction and the skill therein
I like a lot of music that has a streak of punk sound, but never really enjoyed taking the pure straight shot of angst that is black flag. Nevertheless I appreciate it and the ways it very probably influenced a lot of the thrashy bands I love. 🙇♀️
I don’t know if this was just a refreshing change of genre after a week of dad rock, but I enjoyed this. Listened to it on a rainy drive home and found it both relaxing and intriguing, with lots of cool sounds for my ears to chase
Ugh I loved this. I absolutely GROOVED while cooking dinner to this, and I swear to god I will do it again
I had fun
Definitely an interesting album with a lot of different styles, some I liked more than others. Less about the doo-wops but all about the songs carried by chunky heavy floor tom action.
*shudders* that was a very strong shot of indie folk. The vocals were immediately off-putting and I really just don’t love this genre overall, BUT there were times when this internal hipster voice whispered “but isn’t this pleasant to drink your coffee too as morning snow gently falls outside your window?” maybe.
This album changed Lindsay Weir’s life but alas it did not change mine. Pleasant overall tho
I was saving this album for a glittery night of disco fun and was a bit sad to realize Bee Gees weren’t always the boogie they’re best known for bringing. I’m sure this album had more merit than my confusion allowed me to see, but ionno, not for me, man
Wow this caught me so off guard in a good way—it’s noisy, hypnotic, dark, with these crazy good doom-laden melodies… I liked the classic rocky songs less but that is okay. At times this album just sounds so ahead of its time and probably influenced a lot of the sad, doomy, dark post-rock and metal I love. will definitely be returning to this 🥵❤️
Uhm that RIPPED. I love Queen but this album has somehow missed my ears until now. March of the Black Queen had me headbanging en route to work, so goood. 4.5/5
Lol I was clowning on this album and then next thing I know I’ve listened to it twice back-to-back. This fully dunks me in 90s cheese and I love it
I do not like these vocals and weird circus melodies. I do not like them, Sam-I-am
This was like going on a hike where the most interesting thing you saw was a mildly cool stump. Sparse moments of intrigue 2.5/5
This is the last Metallica album I really fuck wit. Shreds pretty much the whole way, and the solo in One will forever bestow the chillies
Some cool piano solos but otherwise *fart noise*
New content for me. Nothing really stood out and hooked me in, but it was, like, fine 2.5/5
When I was a kid and saw photos of Alice cooper, I always thought his music would be so dark and scary but really it’s symphonic kids bop for a children’s spooptastic Halloween party and I’m sorry but I hate it
*Me pulling up the album cover*: oh christ wtf is this nightmare *me within the first 20 seconds of track 1*: 🤩🕺🏼✨ this spoke to both my soul and booty and I loved it
That was the dorkiest 37 minutes of rock ever recorded. Kind of endearing, but still, why
I am so disoriented. I turned this on and firmly scoffed, “HA this is exactly what tHe cARdiGaNS would sound like.” Then I started liking it by “Step On Me.” Then they played the song that Jim and Andy sing in The Office and I thought I hated it again. Then they covered fucking IRON MAN and i hated them for indie-fying such a sacred heavy metal song, but I also kind of liked it at the same time?! Oh god I’m a mess over here
La Grange was always my least favorite song in Guitar Hero, and a whole album of that is my personal hell. I don’t know if it’s 1-star bad…let’s give it a generous 1.6/5
I’ve always really liked Wham for their fun, upbeat silliness, and this was the first I’ve ever sat down and listened to an entire George Michael album. It had moments of pleasant fun, but I really fell off during the ballads in the second half.
I guess it was kinda relaxing but I have nothing else to say
That was great, I remember listening to Air probably like 10 years ago, and this reminded me how much I like it. It was giving me Royksopp vibes.
Pleasantly surprised by this album,. Very ethereal, and achieves a big mood even in its minimalism.
Legendary album and we all know it
Was a little surprised to realize that this album was actually kind of annoying to me? I just didn’t enjoy it at all after Immigrant Song. I’ve never loved Robert Plant’s vocals but somehow even less tolerable on this album. Idk man
I like it I don’t love it but I like it
Ionno if I’d listen to it again but it was an interesting dive into a fruit medley of punk, surfer rock, and psychedelic. Sofa of my Lethargy was prolly my favorite song. The way the vocals sound dunked under water reminds me of some Avey Tare, but this music took a lower hallucinogen dose
I was on board fully by “We Will Not Be Lovers” which absolutely SUHLAPPED. When they sang “the touch of your fish is hard to resist,” I was buckled in and ready to go, feeling a jolt of excitement with every Michael Jackson woo. That is one ecstatic celtic violin and boy does it go hard at the end. Sadly the rest of the album had no nutritional value to me even as meme music.
Listening to this album as a white woman in my Subaru Outback in the drive-thru of a suburban Panda Express, I recognize there’s a cultural merit to this album that is out of the context of my own experience. But I can see how anthems like Fuck Tha Police offered a much needed catharsis in the late 80s, and unfortunately have a timeless quality as so many of the social frustrations this album vents still carry on today. Kinda like with Public Enemy, I enjoy hearing the songs as single units, but find it difficult to sit and listen to the entire album. Nevertheless, enjoyed it.
I’m familiar with Nick Cave and I think I’ve listened to his music before while on a road trip with a friend who’s a huge fan. But I forgot just how much I do not enjoy this. This feels more like spoken word poetry than music, and for me, it was impossible to differentiate between any two songs. The background instrumentals and album art are pretty, though.
This was some prime vintage indie. What really made it stand out was the always surprising and creative instrumental additions that kept the album moving as opposed to stuck in the repetitive rut of “guy singing with guitar.” Nahhh you throw in some horns, a lil mellotron, some wild jazz keys, and why not, flute. Jury is still out on the vocals for me, something about it kinda reminds me of “Going Up the Country” but whatever idk
Too many falsettos. Felt like I was listening to Dennis Reynolds by the end of Child In Time
Obnoxious
Enjoyed the nostalgia of In Da Club but otherwise the album crawled through pretty unremarkable tracks
This album actually had some really cool instrumentals but was hard to appreciate them under that singer that sounds like a slutty Dracula
Yet ANOTHER album that reminds me of driving with my dad. Never been a huge Dylanhead myself but I really do love this album and the memories tied to it
I don’t know HOW I’ve slept on Björk this long. This was lovely. The soft synth + crackle sound on Cocoon is a sound I’ve heard in other Icelandic electronic like Múm, and it’s just one of the most beautiful sounds—I think it must remind me of something because, fuck, that song made me emotional! Anyway starring a few songs and making a note to absolutely fuck with more Björk
At first, I thought it was aight but just really cringe lyrics—but it just seemed to get worse the longer I listened to it
Listening to this album was like hanging out with a friend’s friend who at first seems cool but the more they talk the less you wish they were there. I don’t really know why but that is just how this feels
Wow damn that entire album was the definition of chill and I loved it. Head bobbing, eyes closed, easy grooving. Every instrument works together in such impeccable harmony, and everything feels right in the world at least for these 34 minutes.
very good job with the album, this good music and it was nice to cook chili to
I really like sufjan when it’s on, but rarely find myself coming back to it. I’m just not a huge fan of that indie sound, and on this one, the horns were sometimes a little too jovial and the keys sometimes sounded like Peanuts. But I love the slower, sadder songs. Overall a great album, interesting and pleasant from beginning to end.
It’s fine
Ehhhh didn’t like this album very much, songs were pleasant but felt like they didn’t leave much of an impression, and his voice on this one is particularly cartoon smoker
Quite an excellent voice but good lord I cannot handle the sheer volume of horns
Haven’t listened to Stevie wonder since his collab with 98 degrees for the Mulan soundtrack. Anyway some songs were cool but a lot were just very churchy or melodramatic and no thank yaaaa
Cranky and didn’t like it
Not quite as awful as School’s Out but still pretty insufferable
It’s pretty good but get me a bumper sticker that says “I’d Rather Be Listening to Portishead”
I liked it, not as much as the last album on here, but still pleasant albeit a little Starbucks lobby-y
Not usually what I’d throw on to add some lift to my day, but this did the job anyway.
This felt like I was listening to Josie and the Pussycats. Kinda fun for a driving-in-the-sun day but would never listen to this album intentionally again
I really dragged my feet listening to this one after the last stevie album which I did not vibe with much at all, but warmed up to this one more. Some songs made me realize how much boy bands of the 90s/2000s borrowed from him I feel like maybe?? Anyway this one was both warm (the funk) and cold (the ballads) for me
This was my first sit-down-and-really-listen-to-Prince Prince experience. And I’m sorry to everyone who loves Prince but I didn’t really like it.
✅ proggy ✅ folky ✅weird
At first I wasn’t sure but it grew on me
A little long but enjoyed it. Bonus Jackass theme was a nice plus
I really truly genuinely TRY to make it through the whole album before rating but by track #4 this album had ruined my day and I cannot do it anymore. Go ahead and judge this album by its cover because it is 🇺🇸 a w f u l 🇺🇸
Well that was lovely
I really loved it as a meme but maybe not as music
Enjoyed this one more than the album with hella horns, whistles, and sirens and that’s about all I can say about that right now
It’s 11PM, it’s been raining all day, and I’m snuggled up with a cat, blanket, and crossword. This hit with a really nice cozy vibe, and I think it helped me enjoy it more than I normally would. 3.5/5
This is my personal Cringefest 2023 headliner. Kat from 10 Things I Hate About You started a garage band. I really just hated it and that is that.
Relaxing, interesting, unique, what’s not to like
I hate this but also feel like that’s the city slicker in me refusing to click my boots, toss some hay, and hoe on down
Far from my favorite Bowie album but it has a special place as his final gift to the world. It has its weird, fun, intriguing moments. 👩🏻🎤
Songs were a little hit or miss but overall a nice chill album that felt relaxing and easy to get through
Probably one of my most listened to albums of all time, transcendental
If this was Cold Stone Creamery, this album would be a solid “Like It.” Not quite a “Love It” and pretty far from “Gotta Have It.” But I like it. 🍨
This album is like 10 years older than I thought it was! 16-year-old me is vibing, brings back memories of a high school crush playing Wonderwall for the school talent show 😳😍😘 3 stars for nostalgia and fond memories
Enjoyed it for the most part, started losing me at the chipmunk voice
This did not bring me joy but it was also tolerable
Loved
At times, repetitive and annoying. At times, unexpected and strange. At times, somewhere in the middle. Like a 2.6/5.
I’m into this, I’m into this
I really only get down with the trancy dancy in live, late night environments, so listening to this in bed on an iPad surely won’t have the same effect. But overall I enjoyed it, especially Halcyon and On and On which seems to be their most popular song by far.
Really progressing from feeling annoyed, bored, …and then delighted by this album’s fun, dorky silliness. And in the end, I think I needed to take today less seriously so you know what, 3 ⭐️s
Enjoyed this. Except the song with laughing. Laughing in music is always a little creepy.
Ohhh to be 16 years old, listening to this album on a summertime drive, windows down and your teenage friends being annoying. I love this and always will.
Made me sigh a lot
The music itself is very good but I CANNOT with this low gravelly voice. I don’t know why but it’s so unsettling and I physically can’t finish this
Fire
Fun. And fine.
Kind of dorky but if I catch myself dancing it’s an automatic 3-star min.
Why do I feel like Zack from Love Is Blind would love this
Ehhh I dunno I barely even noticed the music was playing. Not very ear catching and felt kinda basic
This sounds like an album Naboo and Bollo would make together
The Michael Jackson we have at home:
First time listening to this album and I was in love with it from start to finish. Something about “Earthquake” hit my soul wherever lives memories of floating through nights of live music, it made me emotional!! The effervescent psychedelic songs, the campy upper songs, it all just hits for me
This banged. How we went from 80s pop to Irish jig I don’t know, but here for it
Second half started to grow on me
This album kind of annoyed me. Plain music about insecure, controlling lads
It’s traditionally pretty but I am so bored, good god
Appreciate the attempt to balance all the dad rock with a little mom rock. But the only thing I liked about this album was the cover. Very relatable.
WooooohoooohooooHOOO so that’s what Thundercat is about. Dark jazzy psychedelic 3am on the floor vibes, I loved this
As far as a Bobby album goes, this is good and that’s all I have to say about that
I liked it when he was singing about his toys. I didn’t like it when he was singing about his 10-inch whatever….or really anything else. This was not good.
Never have and never will love this. Annoying.
Pleasant enough
😌👍
Who doesn’t love it
I was passively listening to this and it made me noticeably cranky so I’ll go ahead and take that to mean this one was a bwomp for me
I mean it’s a pretty album for sure, but my god how much Nick drake is there and how many more is this list gonna make me do 3.5/5
I don’t know what I was expecting but that was nice. Just so, so, so tired and this felt like the baby’s lullaby I needed
Surfs up its good stuff my dude
I wouldn’t normally listen to this unless I was playing, like, The Sims: Hot Date expansion pack but I still like and appreciate it 3.5/5
I was excited to listen to this because for some reason I have memories of this band being real hyped up yet I’d never listened to it before. But I guess I was surprised that it was kinda meh
Not a Michaelhead by any stretch of the word, but with hits like Thriller, Billie Jean, and Beat It, I’m not gonna argue that this album does have some pretty serious slap
Standard Issue Music. Spotify suggested that I “might also like” a playlist simply titled “Dad Rock.” 2.5/5
We own this one on vinyl and it’s always been a pleasant listen, but this is the first time I’ve given it my full concentration. And man, this album is just so beautiful and unique. It’s folky and ethereal and leaves me feeling like I’ve been outside under the stars thought I know not why 🗿 4.5/5
This is pretty much how I expected this to sound
Horns aren’t really my favorite sound but nevertheless this was uplifting and made me feel like I was watching Office Space
I don’t know it was fun overall but I agree, teacher song is weird
Thoust rippeth
It’s smooth I’ll give it that, but I’m no Howard Moon and this overall does so little for me
oh that was SLAY
Not slay
Not bad but I had higher hopes for this album based on track one and the album art. “Are You Ready Eddy” was a wack finale
Dang okay well that was lovely. Spotify is missing two songs for some reason and was enjoying the album enough to look em up on YouTube. Love that album art too, very “Isolation” by Howard Moon
Don’t tell me you guys’ve never gotten the Led out.
This turned me into a 78-year-old man and I’m not sure I wanted that
Now I know who sings that one song I don’t like
God this thing logjammed my list up for days because I couldn’t get through it. I don’t know why but this annoyed the shingles off me.
Nice job boys, top notch harmonies
I listened to this while starting my day and barely noticed it was playing. So generic it felt ambient
Oh my goth I loved it
I genuinely love prog rock albums with endless, meandering tracks that feel symphonic. This one had some cool spacey segments and god bless the mellotron, but the more grounded classic rock parts didn’t do quite as much for me
