I did it. I listened to an album again. This was a fun one to jump back into. Fun variety of emotions and intensity. Much of it felt vaguely familiar too.
Easy enough listening. But yeah, feels very trans for"dark and dangerous" music. I pictures this thriving at q and brew. Just solid manly rich for a bunch of dudes shooting pool
Decent Album
This had a few good jams on it but none of the main hits that I'm used to with Alice Cooper. Still, solid classic rock.
Ignoring the name this is generic mid-70's rock. It's ok. Alice Cooper however is another thing and his name carries the whole thing.
pretty generic rock, even though Cooper is considered classic
Cat: surprisingly poppy! Didn’t hate it as much as I thought I would! Classic rock, like the addition of the brass on Elected. He screams a bit too much lol. Sounds a bit like Kiss? Liked Sick Things. I love the dead is just as bad as expected. AJ: Fucker had me all the way through Generation Landslide! Then he got bored so he acted up some..? Lick from Mr. Nice Guy is fucking iconic, honestly. Weirdo fits right in to the 70’s rock club. Of course my wife liked sick things. Lol
some good moments
After seeing Alice Cooper play Pontius Pilot in the Jesus Christ Superstar live TV event some years ago, I can see his fascination with musicals and theater. I haven't listened to an Alice Cooper album in about 30 years, so this was a pleasant surprise listen. 3.5/5.
A bit strange in some places, but some solid music!
As strange as it was, I thought it was fun. The first three tracks were sort of boring, but the others had entertaining lyrics and cool guitar riffs. Weird but still enjoyable. Also, cool album cover. Fave track(s): Billion Dollar Babies, Mary Ann
Cool hits but not really my type of music. But I understand why this was so influential.
When I hear "No More Mr. Nice Guy," a classic rock radio staple, I never remember that it's Alice Cooper. I think that's because for the most part, Alice Cooper's best-known music doesn't give me Alice Cooper vibes. At least, solo Alice Cooper vibes? Because Alice Cooper was the band name before Vincent Furnier became Alice Cooper himself and became a solo act (that of course had a backing/touring band). It's a bit confusing. But just as confusing is the music that came out of band that helped to create shock rock and developed a controversial on-stage persona. A lot of "Billion Dollar Babies" sounds like pretty mainstream 70s rock. And some of it sounds like it belongs in a musical. I don't see the image of the fully costumed, make-up caked character of Alice Cooper in my head until part way through the folky "Generation Landslide," where the snarly darkness first comes out. And that's seven tracks in. "I Love the Dead" come last and finally cements that image in my mind, but most of the album just doesn't fit my expectation and stereotype when I hear "Alice Cooper."
I liked Alice Cooper . . . I liked Alice Cooper? What??? That was unexpected. 3.5
I'm not a big fan of the more theatrical side of Alice Cooper's persona which does bring this album down a bit for me. I still enjoyed it for the most part though. favs: No More Mr. Nice Guy, Billion Dollar Babies, I Love the Dead least favs: Mary Ann, Sick Things
GOTH GLAM FUN. Not something I want to listen to all the time, but a good time regardless.
Some good fun rock. I think I thought it would be darker, based on Alice Cooper's appearance, but it was mostly just normal rock. Only recognized the No More Mr Nice Guy song
I like the hits but the filler was boring.
Solid rock making for an enjoyable listen. Strong 3. P.S. in the book index, Alice Cooper is listed under the letter A
Lots of blues based guitar riffs, a good representation of classic 70s rock. Alice Cooper was definitely into shock factor in his live shows, this is pretty tame by today's standards. "No more mr nice guy" was the best track of the album.
High 3
Was ok without being all that good, didn’t really find anything in here that blew me away
Ummmm, 🤔 a solid don't love it don't hate it, 3 stars
by Alice Cooper (USA, 1973) A consistent, good rock album, though none of the songs really stand out. I like the fresh sound of it - it's 50 years old but it sounds like as if it was something from the late 80s.
I have never really listened to Alice Cooper earnestly, though I have always thought he seemed pretty cool as a person and an artist. I have heard "No More Mr. Nice Guy" so many times and had no idea it was an Alice Cooper song. I listened to it a bunch and it's great, it's got some real Paul Revere and the Raiders guitar riff vibes to it--a good thing! This album was short and sweet and rocked plenty. Very enjoyable.
I unironically enjoy this album and have for a while.
Music for weirdos and creeps, with solid riffs and lyrics exploring macabre subjects. Good, but not great.
Fun and glammy in many parts, but the shock rock crock was a bit of a flop for me.
I enjoyed the music, but I kind of hope this is not the only Alice Cooper, because I feel like there is better stuff for them.
Interesting . Not all dark at all
Not what I was expecting at all. This is some fun sounding Glam Rock with a dark edge. Unfortunately, much of the subject matter is not for me.
I thought I’d hate this but my hang ups with Alice Cooper turned out to be superficial, that is, image-based. ‘Elected’ lyrically sounds like a sarcastic twist on the Ramones ‘I Wanna Be Sedated’. Dig the James Bond notes ringing out on ‘Unfinished Sweet’ though the last couple minutes of the song linger. Generation Landslide doesn’t do much for me. Sick Things is corny and flat-out sucks. No More Mr. Nice Guy is corny but enjoyable in a fun campy kind of way. Mary Ann is a useless piano ballad, short at least. I Love The Dead is listenable but provides nothing that would make me want to return to it. B-side overall is worse than the A-side. Every song on side A is enjoyable, I’m sure if Alice Cooper have more songs as good as Elected I’d enjoy a Best Of collection quite a bit.
I genuinely had no feelings about this album. Like it was obviously trying to be provocative but I couldn't be bothered to care at all.
I am vaguely familiar with Alice Cooper, I know one or two of his biggest hits. I am excited to check this album out! I would give this a 3.5, if I could give half stars. Not quite worthy of a 4/5, but very close! Very interesting music and lyrics.
Enjoyable album, especially the first half.
Didn't expect to like this when I first saw it pop up as today's album, but it was surprisingly enjoyable. Not really here for the songs about rape & necrophilia though.
Nice
Not my cup of tea, but I do recall how groundbreaking Alice Cooper was. My Mom told me to never listen to them.
Alice Copper did not age very well truth being told, and yet I still found some enjoyment in this album.
I tried not to listen to the lyrics lol. When I did I mostly regretted it. Whatever, it's Alice Cooper. Musically it was fine, there was actually a lot of cool harmonies in there. It's early 70's rock, you can't expect that much, but it wasn't too bad. Unfinished Sweet and Sick Things, weird though the lyrics were, were good musically (particularly harmonically).
i wasn't expecting the production to sound so dated i dunno it doesn't do it for me really "smooth criminal" is still pretty great tho
Classic. Mostly good songs
So with lyrics it helps a lot to enjoy especially rock! I like sick things and I love the dead. And I’m no more Mr. Nice guy. Gimme more of Billion Dollar babies!
Went down ok
Surprised I hadn't heard this one before. Better then I thought it would be.
Another shock rock LP from the infamous Alice Cooper. Just like *School's Out*, there are a couple of really good tunes in it, but it's not enough to make the album an clear contestant to become an essential listen, especially so many decades later and with all the great music in all genres that have come to be made since... It's a bit sad, but you probably need room now for more *serious* stuff, especially in a list of 1001 albums you need to listen to before you die. Stage pyrotechnics and gruesome theatricals don't count when you're only assessing good or not-so-good music in albums (although I hear that Alice Cooper's gigs were very fun to *watch*, at least...). Ask yourself this question: would you see those tracks being used in a movie today, even if it's only to give a "vintage" mood to a scene? I think most of those tracks wouldn't work here. Especially compared to other great songs made in 1973, or around that time. It's not that *Billion Dollar Babies* is not worth a little detour though, at least for fans of 70s hard rock and/or fans of, let's say, parodic, er... "topical", ahem, songs. "Elected" is a great track about American political spectacle that hasn't aged a day for instance, both musically and lyrically--actually, while I listened to it, I daydreamed about Trump choosing it for his 2024 (re)election campaign. At this point, I wouldn't even be surprised if the crook and liar actually chose it for real (what's sarcastic and ironical about the tune's lyrics is exactly what the damn fool thinks in earnest about himself). Alice Cooper were clearly prophetic here. Unfortunately, I might add. Apart from that, the most interesting tracks on this record are probably on side two. There you have "No More Mister Nice Guy", a classic rocker with hilarious one-liners. But most of all you have "Generation Landslide", "Sick Things" and "I Love The Dead" (count the goofy interlude "Mary Ann" out). I say "interesting" because those latter cuts are not exactly *easy* listens, but at least they are as "shocking" lyrically speaking as they are off-kilter, expansive and surprising when it comes to the music (producer Bob Ezrin is here honing his operatic skills again after *School's Out", and a few years before Pink Floyd's *The Wall*). By the way, the lyrics in "Generation Landslide" and "Sick Things" are even quite bright and sophisticated. It seems that when you enter Alice Cooper's circus, you might be in for a little unexpected surprises along the way, at least. The thing is, even it it's less "consistent" and rich as a whole, *School's Out* remains an easier, more accessible listen today than *Billion Dollar Babies*. Somehow, early-70s Alice Cooper always seemed to miss the mark--either giving too little on your plate (memorable melodies and performances--the vocals sound pretty thin sometimes, surprisingly) and then giving way too much in terms of, er... "meaty" contents (mock-outrageous posturing and WTF instrumentation). And I can't say for later periods since I haven't listened to them, but I have a "natural" feeling it doesn't get any better from there. If only because there's no other Alice Cooper records on Dimery's list after that anyway. But maybe that's unfair to want more from this act than what they could actually give. You don't ask the clown in your local circus to address transcendent thruths or perform heartbreaking or groundbreaking works of art. You ask that clown to give you a good laugh, along with a few cheap thrills through his slapstick comedy antics. And then you move on with your life. If some members of the audience want to see "high art" in all this, good for them. Maybe "low brow" and "high brow" don't mean anything in popular culture indeed. I have an inkling *some* forms of "low brow art" age better than others. But who am I to say, really? Number of albums left to review: 744 Number of albums from the list I find relevant enough to be mandatory listens: 126 Albums from the list I *might* include in mine later on: 64 (including this one) Albums from the list I will certainly *not* include in mine (many others are more important): 67
You know, I didn’t think I was going to like this, but I did. I don’t think I’d listen to it again, but I enjoyed it. It lasted the exact amount of time it took me to do dishes and wipe the counters. I love when that happens. I thought the album was pretty consistently good, but they lost me on that “I Love the Dead” song.
Despite the theatrics and face make-up, Alice Cooper (and band) pumped out some pretty decent music in the early to mid-70's. We heard his "hits" frequently on the radio, but if you dig deeper into other tracks on their early albums, there are some really good songs on there. The original "shock-rocker" was more glam and "lite" metal than anything shockingly disturbing and his sense of humor and campy theatrical productions is what allowed to parents to not worry about their kids at an Alice Cooper show. The music of Billion Dollar Babies is fine, not really my thing, but it's enjoyable and more on the parody side that you shouldn't take too seriously. ***1/2
70s memories!
Trying to think of it in context of its time but still comes up short
Another Guitar Hero (2?) classic! Reminds me a lot of The Wall (which it preceded by nearly a decade). Very theatrical. Into it. I wonder though: was Alice Cooper fringe in the 70s? Did only weirdos like him? Seems like maybe he was among the vanguard to be, like, a "freak" for lack of a better term. Standouts: Hello Hooray, Billion Dollar Babies, No More Mr. Nice Guy, I Love the Dead
It's certainly an enjoyable album but did not really captivate me in any way. Also does not seem too original, the sound reminds me of a typical rock band from the 70s. I guess I never really cared for glam rock. I also did not have the time to go through the lyrics, so maybe I'll still grow fonder of this album? No More Mr Nice Guy is a banger though! 3/5
Wish I had more time to listen, but I like what I heard. Will listen again
Love the Beavis and Butt-Head theme. It's alright.
Top 3 Songs: 1 - No More Mr. Nice Guy (5) 2 - Unfinished Sweet (4) 3 - Raped and Freezin' (2)
Glam rock with an enthusiastic performance and prog-like creative ideas. I'm not too big of a fan of the genre, and it sounds a bit dull, but the songs are goofy, catchy, and memorable. Each song centered around a different style, so there was plenty to look forward to. Favorites: Billion Dollar Babies, No More Mr Nice Guy, Sick Things, I Love the Dead
Some decent tunes, and I respect how this guy basically did hair metal before it was even a thing, but not totally my schtick. Overall good not great for me, solid 3.
mid
Quite enjoyable effort from shock rocks grand old man, Alice Cooper. The themes are of course macabre and the content a bt difficult to take seriously. Overall there is just enough variation throughout the record to avoid it becoming a snoozefest. The cover 'Hello Hooray' kicks everything off with a lot of theatrics. I was surprised by the entire vibe, but then saw that it was probably due to producer Bob Ezrin who would later turn the theatrics all the way up to 10/10 when producing The Wall and co-writing 'The Trial' off of that. The album also includes a weird variation on the James Bond theme on 'Unfinished Sweet', a nice pop tune a la The Monkees on 'No More Mr. Nice Guy' and finally the classic 'I Love The Dead' which opened the door for many future metal bands concerning what you were allowed to actually sing about on a record.
You have to dig deep to find a 70's rock band with more theatricals and sick humour - even though they do their best to hide it behind very competent and serious musicianship. Musically Alice Cooper is best on the great title track, the classic "No More Mr. Nice Guy" and the violently graphic and tongue in cheek "I Love the Dead". At times I reach a point where the gimmicks and humour is almost overwhelming, especially on "Unfinished Sweet", but in the end Cooper wins you over by way of antics and simply just being one of rock's most iconic individuals.
A solid early rock-n-roll LP with some characteristic flair. There are some memorable riffs throughout, just wish it had stuck more to narrative, tongue-in-cheek songs like 'No More Mr. Nice Guy' as the band has a real knack for nailing these tracks with catchy leads and lyrical zingers.
Good album. lots of different influences and styles. Worth another listen
I genuinely really like No More Mr. Nice Guy... the rest was ok. Better than I expected.
Unremarkable, had some okay songs but mostly just glazed while listening
I like it, it's nowhere near as heavy as I thought it would be at all, but it's still got some fantastic guitars in there, and it's also quite melodic. I'll certainly check out some more Alice Cooper beyond this (and the other big hitters I know).
Solid songs and a decent album that I wouldn’t mind listening to again
It was okay
3/5 it was catchy but some of the songs were just shock value
Hmm
A much more polished and tonally mature album than School’s Out is, which I rated 1 star back when I didn’t realize how much actual legitimate crap music would be ahead of me. I liked this one, No More Mr. Nice Guy is one of those very classic classic rock songs that I always enjoy. Hello Hooray is a fun and irreverent track that I forgot I liked as much as I do. Good times.
First few songs are catchy, last few ol Alice gets a lil to into his weird ass singing voice & I hate it 💩
Leftism to the tune of the who? Interesting, engaging, and also something I feel like I've heard a thousand times. But this is "the source" some would say? I don't know, it's close enough where I enjoyed it for what it is.
Okay
Pretty good rock album. Some good songs but mostly not overly special
When you’re 10 and watch Wayne’s World for the first time, some time after that you learn that Bohemian Rhapsody had been around for 20 years. Welp, TIL Alice Cooper (also of 10yr old me Wayne’s World fame) is not (solely) glam metal, and had a career that mostly spanned the early 70s. 3.5/5.
I don't do well with early 70s rock music, something about every rock singer having the same nasal inflection and cadence makes the genre sound real tired and dated. This falls mostly in line, but I do respect being a bit more nasty with great guitarwork on here.
It’s fine, but if you can listen to this on a speaker system vs. headphones. Really bizarre mixing/panning choices, for example on “Elected” the vocals are pushed all the way to the left channel, while the drums are squished hard to the right.
I hated every second of schools out so I’m not having any positive expectations here… Hello hooray is a very theatrical reminder ay to open for this guy ( kinda bowie-esque ). Raped and freezing is a very mid level rocker okay and nice sounding but generic. I think elected is a dumb song lyrically but I kinda get it and the instrumentation is cool. Then is the title track it’s alright I do quite like the wired layered vocals together Unfinished sweet is very meh a rubbish choice to end side A but the middle bridge section is at least interesting. Side b starts with no more mr nice guy ( apparently the biggest song off the album according to Spotify) it’s poppy for this guy a surprisingly okay track other than that rubbish chorus. The acoustic guitar is really nice in Generation Landslide it’s would be rubbish without it. The Slow Speed At What The Words are pronounced On Sick Things Can Be ( is) Dumb. I was really surprised by Mary Ann it’s a short haunting sounding piano track not a favourite but not dreadful. I love the dead is wired an haunting actually somehow perfect as a closer. I mean it’s better than schools out ( which I gave a 2) so that means I gotta promote this to a 3.
The album is rock at its core but it sure can't help from bursting into musical theatre grandeur along the way. Each track has a boisterous pop affect that contrasts against the ghoulish nature of the performances and the scandalous nature of the lyrics. And speaking of the lyrical content, now I know why Alice Cooper's work was coined as shock rock. The lyrics blast right through taboos such as sexual assault ("Raped and Freezin'"), blow-up dolls ("Billion Dollar Babies"), and necrophilia ("I Love the Dead"), like they're just small talk. I can see the roots of groups like Gwar in these songs, for sure.
I can't figure Alice Cooper out. Sometimes he reminds me of the Who, in all their power and glory, sometimes the theatrical side of Pink Floyd, but then other times he's like a schlocky joke. Overall this is a solid album though. 3 stars.
Pretty sure I've listened to this album before, its aite
At first I though, oh jeeze… but once again pleasantly surprised. What was once controversial and heavy metal, is now pretty tame rock’n’roll.
It's OK but I've never been a huge fan of songs about dead bodies and dead, babies, or dead anything really.
Cool!
A duet with Donavon on the title track was a great idea. I like the production and creativity throughout, for example the James Bond theme in Unfinished Sweet. If you can get beyond the gimmicky horror film choruses of Sick Things and I Love the Dead they are decent, dark songs. The 2-guitar interplay I liked on their earlier albums has been replaced with a big production sound, courtesy of Bob Ezrin. I may rant about this more in the future but I'm surprised the 1971 albums that brought this band to the attention to the public and provided the basis for the theatric shows they become known for would be overlooked for this.
It was ok, not what I thought Alice Cooper sounded like, I was expecting something a bit harder. Liked No More Mr Nice Guy
Big, cartoonish Bob Ezrin production. Fun, technicolor, dramatic. This is good example of the 70s tendency towards big stage shows (the live recordings on the deluxe version show how well they transitioned this to the stage). Fun and funny, but not an album I NEED to own.
3/5 some classics
Something I didn’t think I’d like but it’s more depth than you’d think.
Good sound, influential sound, I though Alice cooper was a guy not a band lol
This is a fun one. Highlights: Generation Landslide, Elected.
Die oudere albums van Alice verrassen me echt, prima muziek
Very on brand for the ghoulish caricature of Alice Cooper. Theatrical, sounds like a musical, including lots of talk singing. Musically, the guitar parts are the star of the show and I liked the brass low down in the mix. Rating: 2.5/5 Playlist track: Date listened: 23/05/22
This album was very difficult for me to rate. On one hand, it didn't keep my attention very well. On the other hand, it's clearly a landmark album in the history of what would become heavy metal, and it influenced a lot of other music that came after it as well. I think it's a decent album, but it didn't appeal to me all that much 3/5
Coupla bangers on here, namely Mr. Nice Guy, Billion Dollar Babies, and Mary Ann. Coupla tracks I would leave. I think you could probably leave School's Out on this list and take this one off. I love Alice, but I don't know if he needs to albums on here.
Vahva kolmonen!
Rehdin hyvä ja onneks ei sisältäny Poisonii
5/10. Not bad in general, but the last song is gross.
Derivative but fun to listen too
Alice in all their glory. Some big hits and a few misses here.
Better than expected
Close to a 4 star
Solid rock album. Odd themes but doesn't get too dark.
Not enough standouts to get a 4 but a good album
Enjoyed this one more than I expected, maybe my pre conceptions of Alice Cooper were wrong. But this is a good rock album.
Ok... it's Alice Cooper. Quaint spectacle, nothing more.
Generally not a big fan of Alice Cooper but I must say this album is produced quite well. Bob Ezrin gives it that big layered sound he is known for and I appreciate the effort that went into the details. Bonus points for having both Donovan and Marc Bolan on it.
It's... ok but surprisingly all over the place. Not my jam but I guess I can respect some of the weird shit?
Best Song: Billion Dollar Babies. I'm of the age where this song makes me think of the version from Guitar Hero (or was it Rock Band), so chalk this like up to nostalgia for basement dwelling and video gaming. Worst Song: Raped and Freezin'. Bold choice to put "raped" up there in the title. Especially of an otherwise entirely bland song. Overall: A couple poppy, classic rock hits in here, but it does feel kind of laughable that anyone ever found this guy edgy. From a modern perspective, he feels entirely tame.
Loved this album…. Big in high school
There's a few hits of Alice that I like, like No More Mr. Nice Guy and School's Out but for the most part, his music on this one feels a little generic with the other greats putting out albums during this time. It's listed on Apple as Hard Rock which I don't agree with either, this felt like soft rock. Not a bad album, but not much to write home about.
Whoa, nice! One of those classic rock albums that I've seen a bunch but never listened to. Alice Cooper is mainstay that I don't know much about. Creepy-looking dude, but the music is always solid. This album fits the mold, a few great songs that I'll be revisiting, even though stylistically it doesn't do much to set it apart from a lot of other classic rock stuff. I did love how abruptly it ended, with a bit of a horror vibe. Cool album! Favorite tracks: No More Mr. Nice Guy, Unfinished Sweet, Hello Hooray. Album art: Iconic for sure, absolutely love this one. Actually looks like a photo album cover, made in snake or crocodile skin. And the little golden baby medallion is cool too. Just love the vibrant color. 3.5/5
7/10 Best Song - Hello Hooray
Not bad, but as a newcomer I failed to see what is supposed to be so exciting about Alice's music. I'll try again with another album.
This must be really nice live, but I wasn't impressed by this album.
Nice to listen to, but not a Cooper's classic in my opinion
This album comes into its own on stage, performed by Alice Cooper, but fails to be as captivating when listening at home. He has much better studio albums and I'm not sure why this one is on this list. Was it perhaps significant at the time?
Not going into my regular rotation but I can see that he is a talented musician.
Favorite Track - Billion Dollar Babies Where I was - Home How I listened - Vinyl Listen Again? - Yes
Fun album. Have enjoyed Alice Cooper far more than I expected to. 3.5/5
alice cooper, besides being a good golfer, also pretty good at music
I Alice Cooper is a rock singer quite well known. Until today I hadn't heard it and that's fine.
To think that this was "hard rock" is almost laughable. Pretty even record, No More Mr. Nice Guy is the standout of course. Mary Ann almost sounds like it's a McCartney song!
Better than I expected. Surprised by the themes of this record as well. Generation Landslide, No More Mr. Nice Guy, Mary Ann, and I Love the Dead all leaves a strong impression. Strong 7 to light 8 out of 10.
Alice Cooper, by definition is the epitome of “butt Rock” that is to say while the music on this record is not that bad and the content is OK, it’s the over-bloated, overproduced over-everything of the 1970s. I have not looked it up yet but I would not be surprised if Todd Rundgren produced this record, Todd is the man and produced a lot of great stuff from the 70s; but if they’re going for scuzziness a la NY Dolls on this record it does not sound scuzzy at all. Just cheap.
Not a huge fan but didn’t hate it
Enjoyed it, was a bit much at times by overall the melodies and solos were excellent, my fav tracks were Billion dollar babies and unfinished sweet. Some necrophilia and sexual assault though so it was a bit much personally I’d give it a 7.6 out of 10
Some familiar stuff, some batshit crazy stuff, but throughout there is a groove and some insane guitar work. Lots of fun when the songs go for it
Dad rock
This is pretty good. Surprised i've not listened to it before, I suppose back in then it wasn't so easy to listen to all of the music as it is today.
Hi-Elected, No More Mr. Nice Guy Lo-Mary Ann Other than that appearance in Wayne's World, I never really had much exposure to Alice Cooper...This stage of AC feels like an opening band for early Black Sabbath (not a bad thing!), and hit their stride and reinvented themselves. You have some truly fun tracks like Elected and No More Mr. Nice Guy. On the other hand, while I have a soft-spot for well-executed hard-pan styles, but Mary Ann is stuck in the left channel for most of the song, and I don't really like that. Aside from that, this is a fun album and a great entry point to Alice Cooper's body of work.

I'm not the hugest fan of Clint Eastwood playing the same character in all of his movies, but even I'll admit that he makes a pretty good grizzled boxing coach. Hilary Swank steals the show, though. Best track: Generation Landslide
Better than I expected. I think this album is way better than School's Out. Still, it's little more than generic classic rock. Favorite song: No More Mr. Nice Guy
Glammigt och gediget, ofta väldigt in your face, speciellt i No More Mr. Nice Guy. Bästa låt: No More Mr. Nice Guy.
Pretty good! A little spooky and a fun bit of energy throughout.
Liked but not a lot ... A great musician that was a star of his epoch.
Better than expected, nice sound all the way through
Better than I thought, not as good as people claim.
Gotta say, some interesting/ original sounds. Even though unfinished sweet sounds like an ode to bond music, it's still a weird/unique song
I mean...I guess I understand the hype, but not really my thing. The production didn't excite me though the songs were good and I can understand why people like them. Solid listen but wouldn't repeat the entire album experience. Fave track: No More Mr. Nice Guy.
"Hello Hooray" is a delightfully eccentric, theatrical introduction to this album by the godfather of shock rock. A Judy Collins cover that is given the full glam treatment, it chugs along with great bombast and excitement, and serves as an effective springboard for the album proper. The hooks are rife across this album, even if Cooper and the band rely on simple riffs. Often some unusual orchestration or an intriguing change is introduced in the coda of a song and it would be good to hear this experimentation taken further- 80% of the album is pretty straight rock and roll. "Unfinished Sweet" wastes far too much time on a misguided Bond homage, and "Sick Things" is an underwhelming lull in side 2, but "Raped and Freezin", "Elected", "No More Mr Nice Guy" and "I Love the Dead" all leave a strong impression. Definitely one I'll be listening to again, even if it didn't hit completely on first listen.
No More Mr Nice guy is an amazing song, the rest of the album is somewhat forgettable.
I can see where people dig this
Twas ok
solide james bond??
not too bad for old school Alice
Good rock stuff here. Favorites: Elected, Billion Dollar Babies, No More Mr. Nice Guy
Ach Gott. Etwas beliebiger Rock mit ein paar Momenten. Sehr schlechte 3 Sterne.
not really my cup of tea but also not bad especially the end
Never really listened to Alice Cooper. I always wrote them off as a gimmick / novelty group. I think I saw them in Wayne's World and they seemed like kinda cheezy metal too. This is actually not too bad. It's basically just classic rock. Some strings and orchestration here and there too. Definitely not very metal. Vaguely enjoyable; nothing offensive. (musically that is, some might find offense with the necrophilia in "I Love the Dead"). Overall though, just sort of ok.
3/5 there are some interesting ones, but not enough.
So in the same way I loved Trash when I was 13 - I’d have loved this when I was 13 too - some stuff to really like ( I love the dead is actually a proper highlight) An easy ⭐️⭐️⭐️ no more and no less
The first side was boring to me, but the second really caught my interest. Favorite track is probably Unfinished Sweet
I like No More Mr. Nice Guy
Great songs. 3/5
I feel like I’ve been deceived about 70s rock bands my whole life. There are all these bands that I’ve heard of but had been given the impression that they were hard rock/metal, Alice Cooper included. I actually like the beginning of this album. And I’m beginning to think there’s a whole decade of rock I’ve missed out on my whole life. So I found that I didn’t love this album, but I didn’t hate it, as I feared I would when I thought it was going to be metal.
Weirdly catchy but depressing.
Rock band Alice Cooper's sixth and best-selling album - was awarded platinum status after 13 years. This album was incredibly successful - even upon release - but for some reason I couldn't find any songs that stood out to me. In my opinion, it was great but not overly-amazing.
I've been familiar with Alice Cooper as a music icon since my early teens, and knew a few of his bigger radio hits, but I'd never owned or listened to any of his (their? is "Alice Cooper" both the frontman's stage name and the band's name?) albums before. Some good rock/pop songs on this one, definitely some humor sprinkled in, and I can see why it was such a big hit in the early 70s, and I can hear in it elements that definitely show up in a lot of later bands in the decades that followed. Not one that I expect to come back to, but fun sound overall.
i liked less listened more. americana rock. like joh hughes movies. easy a, entrance in the high school coridor, new found sense of confidence typa stuff. or a road trip to middle americana. long wided desserts, american muscle car,
It's a fun listen; the mixing feels very strange in a lot of the songs, everything is being panned all over the place.
Some of these were really fun and I do like other Alice Cooper stuff. I do like the more gentle songs (some of which reminded me of the Beatles). But some were a bit to hair rock
3/5 i've listened to classic rock for soo long I probably would've enjoyed this more 5-10 years ago. Still good album.
Better than expected. Enjoyed like 40% of it.
protest
Good rock album some weird songs
Theater Kid-core
Good classic rock album. Early Alice cooper is more tolerable than his stuff in the 80s and later. Maybe not his best but good. 6.5/10
6.8
Ok.good cooper
Reasonably good album. Some classic hits. Sounds a bit like Weird Al sometimes.
A several years ago my mom randomly met Alice Cooper in a Dillards. Then they ran into each other again at Applebee's. Anyways, the album was good. Some well known songs.
Some good stuff, but pretty mixed; some tracks are kind of a chore to listen to. The cover art is great. Generation Landslide and Unfinished Sweet were my favorites.
Nice classic rock album
Not really my thing but some nice moments to be had
Good fun, but nothing special. I thought Alice Cooper was more metal but this was almost glam rock
Sounds quite good considering it's '73. Similar classic rock and roll sound to Peter Frampton but a few years older. I preferred Peter Frampton but this album was generally solid, but not much to say about it.
Contains No More Mr Nice Guy and Billion Dollar Babies. Other than those songs, everything else is rather eclectic. How did Alice Cooper get so famous?
Erityisesti jäi mieleen pianopimputtelut ja lopun nostattelut Aaaaai laaav the deee-e-edd...
Rock
3.7 - Fun, macabre, theatrical. Unlike some of the other hard rock acts of the era, Alice Cooper doesn't take himself too seriously, which I appreciate. He also draws from different genres to create an album that's dense with ideas and lots of surprises.
Very nice Alice cooper album. I don't know if I classified it as essential, but it's a good choice, for sure.
Glam rock, some cool riffs and songs. More heavily produced sound than I really like, but it's decent.
Y "I love the dead" es gran cierre. 7/10.
Nothing too special from such a famous band. A bit more ambitious than Schools Out but no song stands out.
not bad. some good classic rock
Some of this pretty decent with the perspective of when it was. Had no idea Elected was the inspiration to the Ramones. I don’t really feel like it stands up as “hard” like it used to be haha
better than I was expecting
Está bueno.
I shockingly enjoyed this.
2.5
I enjoyed this. Solid collection of rock songs. There are a few absolute classics on it, but the whole thing was good. Some intriguing themes and ideas (both musically and lyrically), and interesting production too. Would definitely consider revisiting, though I might be tempted just to head straight for a Greatest Hits compilation.
Unfortunately worse than School's Out, no song really stood out and overall they were just rather boring and similar sounding
a good hard rock album but it misses out on having that 1 hit song that really carries it away
If your album doesn't end with an ode to necrophilia, are you even trying?
7/10. mostly boring honestly, but has one amazing song (no more mr nice guy)
Don't mind a bit of AC, can't say it's all time but it is pretty damn catchy and rocks. 3/5.
Nah
A couple good songs. The rest was trash
Annoying
Meh.
Not bad, but necessarily my kind of thing. Favourite track: I Love the Dead
This project made me listen to an Alice Cooper album, School's Out. That was a surprising blast. Probably should have left it at that as I found myself losing interest as this album progressed. Very forgettable.
Hmmm. Sixth album and theoretically their best, but Billion Dollar Babies is not that good. Weak start, picks it up from B$B through Generation Landslide, terrible finish. Comes in at: L = (1.7*s) Felt like a dark production of Rocky Horror. J = (1.8*s) Really thought Alice was a female back in the day…
Alice Cooper makes the list for being an early shock rock creepo. The band and solo work has never really got me and Billion Dollar Babies is meh. Side 2 is better and more the Cooper we know and kinda like. He has a collection of greatest hits that aren't bad. Probably not the last we seen of this weirdo. 2.12 stars for doing something different but not wowing.
hat mich nicht sehr abgeholt
A legendary singer with so many good songs through his career. This album though, has only one I have listened to before and I can kind of see why. Its very middle of the road to me as a whole. Not bad but nothing I would listen to when there is so much more music that is better both from other similar band as well as from Alice Cooper himself.
Surprisingly bland
I found this deeply uncompelling.
It all sounds so adolescent gross to me. The guitar riffs, lyrics, and delivery. Gross
Not my fav
Other than a big hit here and there, not a big fan of AC. It’s almost like his image and his music don’t even go together. Seems like his music should be more metal than it is. Dazed and Confused was the best thing to happen to this guy in the 90s. 2.5
So unexpected that I had to check it really was the Alice Cooper who I recognise. In a good way! Still doesn’t mean I like it because I don’t really, but that has to count for something??? Lean lean run for me. RYM: N Saved a song: N
Had a couple songs in there I remember from when I was young. Overall a decent rock record but not something I’d play again
Too corny
It was fine until Sick Things came on. That was some community theatre performance type shit
Boring, gross, shit.
Surprisingly not as bad as I was anticipating. It’s ok, but not great.
It's alright, "Mary Ann" and "I Love The Dead" are the best songs in this album imo
Previously unknown. Meh.
So fucking tacky. I don't like Alice Cooper much as a person, but as an artist? Its even worse. I feel Glam has such a big range between the good stuff and the bad stuff. A guy who thinks himself as a leatherface but is really more of a... David S Pumpkins. This is the dude worried about Trans Women in bathrooms and praising Donald Trump huh? I'm going to give this a 2 star because "No more Mr Nice Guy" is fun in a cheesy kinda way, but the rest of this made my eyes roll into my skull. I feel like I can overlook a person being a shitass SLIGHTLY more if the music makes it worth it (or if they are dead) but when the music is so mid it makes me hate it even more.
Suprised at how much I enjoyed this. It was much easier to listen to than expected. And o thought some of the sound choices used were interesting. I don’t think I’d listen to this as a whole again but I could appreciate its place on this list.
It was alright. That first song seemed interesting, but later nothing really caught my attention.
I'm not big on this. It's fine, but I guess I must be numb because this doesn't seem very shocking these days. Favorite track: "No More Mr. Nice Guy"
Rock, 1973 -> 2
Cringe at times Fave track: No More Mr. Nice Guy
A fun album to listen, a little bit disordered.
eh
It's... ok.
I always thought of Alice Cooper as the dark, chews the head off of face bats fella. This was a lot more glammy than I was expecting. I won't say it was bad per se but I didn't find myself moved by it in a meaningful way.
Kinda generic white guy rock. Not for me.
Not a huge fan but it wasn't as bad as I thought. A bit too campy and lame for me though
Some highlights , but about as expected. Not that good
A bit too Rock for me
I've always thought of Alice Cooper as a novelty act. The music comes across as just a vehicle for absurdist performance art. Unfortunately, they aren't terribly clever. So the novelty, such as it is, wears off pretty quickly, and there isn't much of artistic substance to take hold of one's attention/imagination. Everything about this production is pretentious. And the juxtaposition between the cheap and tawdry themes and the overwrought theatricality of the arrangements sounds more juvenile and silly than ironic. That said, No More Mr. Nice Guy is a legit tune.
🫤 standard 70’s whatever
A lot of it felt middling. High 2.
High 2 (might deserve better) but I got bored
Starts strong but ends disappointingly. Elected is the highlight.
The fact that Alice Cooper’s music is not for me is no reflection on his ambition or talent. He is there to entertain listeners with an amusing, flamboyant, glam form of hard rock. It is my dislike of hard rock that makes it hard for me to fully get onboard with what he is doing, but I have to admit there were multiple points across the tracklist where he made me smile and I was impressed at just how elaborate the performance was.
It’s scraping a low 2, it got my foot tapping and some of it has decent melodies and fun bombast, but i do hate most of it
I’ve only ever heard the hits and now I know why. This was not that great, it was an ok glam rock album. It’s weird, Coopers look/act does not match the music. This is straight up glam à la New York Dolls. This is so tame, and not that memorable. The songs are pretty boring.
Entirely forgettable.
Too bad the only song I liked musically on this album talks about necrophilia…
Meh
Not really a fan.
Rock!
ENERGY Fun title track!
2.5
1970's rock. Some questionable topics and takes. Only 1 standout song. This isn't a standout album. Pitchfork: n/a Rolling Stone: n/a Best Songs No More Mr. Nice Guy
I kinda think "School's Out" is a more interesting album than this one, honestly. I wouldn't choose to listen to this album again.
Middle of the road American Rock Bullshit
At first I liked it more than I thought I would. It wasn't "clown music" as another reviewer noted. Sick Things seemed to last 80 minutes, had to skip. I read that this is a masterpiece. That is not the word I would have chosen. When I think of weird I think of Mr. Bungle, this just seemed pretty tame and maybe a little aspirationally odd. Didn't scratch the weird itch nor the rock one. I was introduced to AC with Poison, and I liked it when I was 14 because MTV told me to. Now I'm closing with Love The Dead and pretty glad this is ending. Sorry if this means I don't understand music history but this wasn't enjoyable.
Pretty basic rock. Nothing special about the vocals. Instrumentals were weak in the first half, but there were some good tunes in the second half.
Didn't really enjoy this one. It had none of the energy or verve that I like from good hard rock, and the second-last song was genuinely ass.
Perfect listen for the local boomer bar, but outside of the slightly nostalgic No More Mr Nice Guy there's very little I actively enjoyed. I will say that this level of glam surprised me out of a 1973 album; it feels way closer to an 80s sound to me. Standouts: Unfinished Sweet • No More Mr. Nice Guy
Look/reputation: great Music: soft and mostly rubbish
Yeah he's rubbish. In the Napster days I used to have his greatest hits and it was dreadful. Poison is alright. School's Out is cheesy AF and overplayed and... that's about all I can remember. All fart no shite
I’m glad this sort of glam rock has been left in the past
weird and not interesting
Always wondered who Alice Cooper was. I now I know.
1.9/5 I really liked No More Mr Nice Guy but that's about it.
The only thing I find shocking about this is that people listen to it on purpose.
start was good, but second half is mid, after 6th song everything went bad
Alice Cooper, a pioneer in being obnoxiously "transgressive" for shock value and making incredibly mediocre music for white guys to feel edgy about listening to.
Not an album I found especially interesting. There was the odd song like ‘Elected’ that was more compelling, but most songs just seemed to meander to nowhere in particular. Maybe this seemed more subversive in the early ‘70s, it sounded like trying too hard in 2026.
Rather hoped it would be harder hitting than it was. All in all a bit of a disappointment
Not as bad as I thought after reading about the album’s subject matter. Still nothing interesting here that’ll keep me coming back.
Men höll inte intresset uppe hela vägen in i mål tyvärr!
Rock!!! Kände länge inte att det gjorde speciellt mycket med mig, men No More Mr. Nice Guy är ju en banger. Sen hände det ändå lite kul grejer under avslutningen. Stark tvåa!
Sounded better than School’s Out but still....this shock rock is shockingly crock
Meh
not great
Good ole 70’s rock! Some experimental things I haven’t heard before, with classic guitar riffs.
isn't this guy like a piece of trash? Would I listen again: No Deserves to be on this list: No 2.1
I’d say that as I get older I have more trouble relating to music, but that’s not true and Alice copper is way older than me and I still think it sucks all these years later. Whew…
Never got into Alice- seemed too manufactured for me. Although the use of no more Mr nice guy on dead and confused is genius. So for that I’ll go 2.5.
Did not particularly enjoy.
Alice Cooper very extravagantness ideas come to musicality in this album. Just was not my cup of ☕️
- Lowkey gave up after track 3. I get that its supposed to be camp, out-there, shocking, etc, but the sound isn’t anything new. I’ve literally heard 127 songs that sound exactly the same as the ones on the album. This isn’t as “groundbreaking” as the reviews are saying, it just feels like they ate copious amounts of shrooms and b-lined to the studio. Mid imo, I wouldn’t turn it off if it came on but im not exactly searching for this again on spotify anytime soon. I liked 3/10 songs so 2 stars
This is mostly noise for me - I like two of the songs and those are not memorable
