Fun fun fun
Er… no
Really didn’t like this
Not listened to this before. It was ok but nothing special
1-Star Albums (46)
All Ratings
Nirvana is better
A good mature rock album but not as good as their previous album Sweet Oblivion
Amazing guitar player. Enjoyed the couple of hits. Rest of the album just blurred together. It was ok
A jazz folk rock explosion that I found rather enjoyable
I’ve listened to the album before and the album is OK but yesterday was my birthday and after a few tracks I couldn’t take it anymore so I put on August Burns Red instead
Was OK but not as good as His ‘n’ Hers and Different Class
Personally I think that “Where you been” is their best album. This is a close second.
Yes yes, everyone hates Coldplay! Easy chords, obvious lyrics, standard song structures- music by numbers? But controversially, particularly as I’m a metalhead, I actually like this album
The best Basement Jaxx album is called The Singles and even that isn’t that great because a lot of the singles are just meh
Really didn’t like this
I know very little SFA tracks. This was not as good as I’d hoped it would be.
A couple of enjoyable songs but mostly meh. Nice to see that they are trying to keep the hidden track alive, just not sure it works on Spotify. Did like the canvas though
Perfectly fine background music for elevators, romantic dinners or falling asleep to… wait what time is it? Crap, I am soooo late for work
Wanted to like this album more than I did. Maybe I want to like prog rock more than I actually do 🫤 First track was great but the rest of the tracks were a bit meh.
Musically not really my thing. Got bored of it pretty quickly. Some important messages in the lyrics
I quite like the concept of minimalist music and there were some interesting moments but ultimately the album just faded out into the background
Listening to this reminded me of the film Being John Malkovich, it was all a little weird. Wonder what portal they crawled into when they made this album?
I don’t really listen to classic heavy metal but enjoyed this. The guitar work is great and the lyrics are stupid, but all good fun 🤘
My first thought was 21 songs! But then I realised it was only 35 minutes long :) Not listened to this before and enjoyed this. A good punk album and you can see the influence it had on some more recent bands
Marvin Gaye, solely responsible for the baby boom of 1974
Enjoyed this. Will need to explore them further 3.5
Not listened to this before. It was ok but nothing special
Interesting in places but on the whole I don’t quite get all the hype
“Come with us now on a journey through time and space” felt like I was transported into an episode of the Mighty Boosh and I enjoyed the trip
Better than I thought it would be
Amazing album
Fun fun fun
Ja! Ja! Nein! Nein!
I’m sure lots of people like this music. Thankfully, I’m not one of them
Not a huge Maiden fan and hadn’t listened to this before. I am a fan of dual lead guitar parts which Maiden do lots of and very well. I enjoyed listening to this but probably won’t be listening to it again any time soon
That was pretty pants, wasn’t it
This was yesterday’s album that I missed but I’m so glad I listened to it today. It was fantastic, such good musicianship!
Great album, although started to lose a little (just a little) interest towards the end
Putting the lack of bass in the mix to one side, I’d forgotten how good this album was. Watching One being performed by Metallica on the television when I was 10 is why I play guitar 🤘
It was ok. Victoria a classic
I’m not sure why the world needed this album but hopefully they enjoyed making it
Never heard of these guys before. Enjoyed the album but feels dated
Was OK but a bit too all over the place
One of my all-time favourite albums
Hmmm… that was… interesting?
Bit too airy fairy / jazzy for me. Great background music to drink cocktails too though
Not something I would listen to but some nice singing
A couple of ok hip hop tracks early on but mostly just merged into one big mess
This album made me think that I like the idea of Talking Heads more than I actually like Talking Head.
Blink and you’ll miss it. That was like being slapped in the face with a wet fish and I loved it! Although I wonder how many songs they had to play at a gig!
The Killing Moon is the standout track. The rest was ok. An improvement on their debut album Crocodiles
Is Christmas already?
It was ok but I didn’t really “get it”
It was alright, better than I expected
An improvement over their debut album but still mostly a chaotic mess
Er… no
I don’t speak French so no idea what’s being said but some nice beats
Was just dull and uninteresting. It’s only been 24 hours but the only thing I remember is that he didn’t shoot the deputy, and that only stood out because the whole world has been telling me that fact for the last 40 years. Yesterday’s listen through was just a painful reminder!
Fun, made for TV, pop album. Interesting to read that they got involved in the writing process, that’s cool
Bit of a guilty pleasure of mine
I’m sure lots of people love this, but not for me
Tainted Love the obvious stand out from this campy synth pop 80s album that sounds rather dated now
Everybody’s talkin’ the best of the bunch
Not sure what I was expecting but it was ok. Lots of twiddling instrumental stuff but probably too folky for me. Cowboy Movie was my favourite track
Love the odd track every now and then but a while album is a bit much
This was just awful
Big star give rock bands a bad name. After two terrible albums they follow it up with a third. No idea how this gained ‘cult’ status. It’s just bad
I got bored this this pretty quickly
Seemed pleasant enough if a bit generic, but country music is not my thing
Nice album but nothing special. There she goes the obvious stand out. I felt like it could have been / should have been… better
Not heard this debut album from R.E.M. before. It feels like they are still trying to find their sound. Too many tracks followed the same formula which made the overall album a bit dull. Later albums are better
Something not quite right with the instrumentation and the vocals too wobbly
Felt like they were trying too much to be Air but they failed
They sure did put together some nice beats. Beats to make you tap your feat. Beats to make you nod your head. Beat to make you get up and dance, dance, dance, dance… 🕺
Fred Durst in competition with Wade Wilson for who can drop the most F-bombs! The vocals, if you call them that, are whiny and annoying but bits of the music have a certain groove that you can’t help but nod your head too. I bet as musicians this was a whole lot of fun to play
A well produced/constructed album, but I was just bored listening to it
Cheesy and full of hair! Spotify only have half of the album, which was probably a blessing
Not my cup of tea
Amazing stuff
Uh huh huh! Blue Suede Shoes is the only good track here, the rest are just a bit naff
A few ok tracks but mostly disappointing
Awesome stuff but songs for the deaf is better
First album I bought with my own money 🤘
They were wrong, I didn’t need to listen to this album before I died
Seeing The Strokes at a packed out gig at The Louisiana, touring this album was an amazing night. The albums not bad either
I rushed to the shops to buy this when it came out. Was loving, and still do, the upbeat singles Highly Evolved and Get Free. But the album had too many slower songs for my liking so felt like a bit of a let down
A little bland and instantly forgettable attempt at Brit pop. You can easily hear the sounds of other bands of the time in the tracks, particularly The Lightning Seeds
I like this album
So bad
Great album. Chilled, laid back, nice hip hop
Whilst I don’t think this is their best album, it is still a great album. Like a lot of people I’d imagine, wake me up when September ends is one of my favourite Green Day songs.
Nothing really stood out for me, unlike on Sticky Fingers, but still an enjoyable Stones album
This was one of the albums that got me through my GCSEs. I still listen to this album a lot today. A slightly biased 5 stars for nostalgic reasons!
Not heard this before. Really enjoyed listening to it.
Great album!
Every now and then, creeping through mindless haze, is a short-lived glimpse of a cool riff or drum beat, before the curtain quickly descends and the haze consumes us as we are pummelled with blast beats and guttural nonsense. Like we’re being teased with the faint aroma of something sweet before waking up chained to a post in the middle of a rubbish dump.
If you don’t take this seriously, which I didn’t, then you could say that this album is a lot of fun
Nice tunes from Sonic Youth. Dirty will always be my favourite SY album
This is the sort of album to put on at the end of a long evening. It’s nice and chill but tends to fade into background music. Personally I prefer their rockier stuff
Mostly falls flat, more noise than music. Feels like they are trying too hard to push a square peg into a round hole
Pleasant enough folk-rock with a twang of country but nothing to write home about
I think I probably prefer The Last Broadcast, but there’s not much in it
Awesome stuff
I feel like on the early orbital records they are still trying to figure out how to make music. There are some good tracks here but also some of them get annoying quickly. Time becomes being a prime example of where they are trying to be too clever with the delay of the loop constantly shifting until the loop is back in sync. Cool concept, annoying to listen too. Later records are better
It's not a band I've ever listened to, I kinda had them down in my head as being too folk for me. I was interested when reading up on this that it's been classed as hard-rock / prog-rock and whilst some of those elements are present nothing really blew me away and the songs are forgettable. Considering this came out the same year as Zeppelin IV which is an amazing album, this falls flat in comparison.
Thinking that I hadn’t heard of this band I was surprised that I knew and liked the song Two Weeks. It turned out that was the only stand-out song on an album of mediocre songs that went on way too long
This double album is very long probably didn’t need to be more than a single album. Just because you write a load of songs doesn’t mean they all have to go on the album. The songs either sound like The Beatles or The Bee Gees. 2 stars only for all the drunken times I’ve sung Mr Blue Sky
The stand out tracks were the singles from the (probably too long) album, which are great in isolation, but all together with the rest of the album tracks seemed to lose some of the magic.
The noughties were filled with many great bands coming off the back of Brit-pop and grunge scenes. Bands such as The White Stripes, The Strokes, The Killers, Arctic Monkeys, Gorillaz, Thrice, Finch, Emery, Linkin Park, Audioslave, Killswitch Engage, All That Remains, August Burns Red, Trivium, the list goes on and on. But then we also got Scissor Sisters by Scissor Sisters, a campy disco record trying to drag us kicking and screaming back into the seventies. The fact that the first four tracks of the album were released as singles shouts that these were what the band/producers/record label thought were the best songs. "If we put all the good songs first on the record then people might forget to turn it off and end up listening to it all!". Although how they were permitted to record that awful cover of Comfortably Numb is beyond me, and makes a mockery of the whole music industry.
Seems like all their hits are on this album. Personally prefer the more rock/punk tracks to the disco tracks
Awesome stuff
Too much crooning on this soul filled album and not enough funk. It’s ok if you like that sort of thing. Perhaps this is best played in the evening. Maybe turn down the lights, open a bottle of red and see if your lady… … fancies watching the telly instead.
Following up Siamese Dream, which teenage me deemed one of the greatest albums ever written, was always going to be tough. This double album is long and probably contains some of greatest songs written by The Smashing Pumpkins, aside from those on Siamese Dream. It successfully captures all the emotions and turmoil of being 15, an example of a band understanding their fanbase and writing songs specifically for them perhaps. However, whilst Siamese Dream still holds up well 30 years later, MCIS feels like more of a chaotic mess than a masterpiece. In hindsight, perhaps a shorter single album would have survived better.
Great stuff
First track started well enough and then the high pitch “sensual” vocals came in and ruined it. This was the theme for most of the tracks. It got annoying quickly and I struggled to keep listening to it. A couple of the later tracks with lower pitched vocals were a tad better but by then I’d had enough and was just waiting for it to end.
It kinda drags on a bit. You can tell it lacks a proper producer for most of the tracks. I can see why it was panned when released but also why it is now considered a cult classic
School's out is a great song, was a bit disappointed by the rest
Mostly overplayed now, but Praise You still makes my playlists
Loves me some block rockin’ beats
I really liked the album cover! The songs were ok, kinda album you want to listen to at the end of a night out when you’ve had too much to drink but don’t want to go to bed yet
It’s ok
Yeah, I enjoyed listening to this
Still as good as it was when it was first released. Great for a lazy Sunday afternoon or slumped on the sofa at 2am after a night out
Enjoyed the punky vibes although started to lose interest towards the end of the album
Raa raa raa something
When I was learning piano it was “every good boy deserves football”, I think I like “every good boy deserves fudge” better. The album is cool too
I need to play GTA right now. A bicycle and a Uzi, let’s go
Had this on whilst I got my head down for some no interruption work. It was good background music but nothing stood out for me
Great stuff
Great stuff
The main theme is iconic but the rest is a bit so so
Enjoyed the first two tracks but by track 4 I’d had enough.
You can see that a lot of time was spent on the production of this album, so a bonus star for that
The only thing the Wikipedia says about this album is… “ Our Aim Is to Satisfy is a 2000 studio album by the band Red Snapper. It is listed in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die.” Which kinda tells you everything you need to know. That said I thought this was OK
The lyrics were so bad
It's like she couldn't make up her mind what genre of music she wants to sing, it's all over the place and waaaayyyyyy to long.
It was a bit boring really
Enjoyed this album but it didn’t instantly grab me like similar albums have. I liked that they used a lot of live instruments in the recording of this
Enjoyed this
One of the greatest concept albums ever made
I enjoyed this so much as soon as it finished I started it again so I could hear more
This album was kinda fun. Lost its way towards the end
What do you do after releasing a commercial hit album like Elephant? Well The White Stripes decided to follow it up with the experimental Get Behind Me Satan. All in all the album is OK but it lacks the cohesion that you get with less experimentation and I think, for me, that’s to the detriment of the songs
Seems like they are just copying that “classic” American rock sound, done (and better) by so many before them. A lot of the songs were too long but I think that was to add to the dreamy-ness of the album.
Quite enjoyed the mellow depressing vocals alongside the chilled rock band setup but it did get a bit samey after a while
Brilliant stuff
Good album but their later albums are better
Bit dated but still enjoyable
Groovy baby
Great album
Never really listened to Queen, apart from the big hit singles. This was a big let down
Not their best album. Also too long
The instrumental tracks were ok as background music, but the vocals ruined the other tracks
I’ve not listened to these guys before, aside from the tracks Nirvana covered. Seems to be a collection of songs rather than an album, it lacks cohesion. It’s obvious that as an artist these guys have had a huge influence on the scene. I like the Nirvana versions better, but maybe that’s my teenage self being biased
A return to form by the Blur boys
On a rope was a great song from back in the day. The album is OK. Think they would have been a fun band to see live. Gutted I never got the chance.
Sometimes bands need 5 attempts to mould their sound and release a great album. Unfortunately this is Sepultura’s 4th.
Boring and dull electronic music. So many better artists
Bit naff really. Bonus star for walk this way with Run DMC
Great album by a great songwriter and producer. RIP Brian
Haven’t listened to this in ages. Still sounds great
Is this country music in disguise?
There’s something about his voice that grinds on me. Generally it’s just a bit dull
Another album that makes me reminisce about my misspent youth, cruising round the hood on my bmx with an uzi in my hand whilst getting me some west coast classics
Good stuff
Just remember that Kim’s friend Goo has a real tattoo and she always knows just what to do
This was a weird journey through, well I’m not quite sure. There were some interesting bits, some strange bits, silly bits, cockneys and Lazy Sunday. Don’t think I’ll listen again but glad to have listened through this time
A fun album that’s was just a bit different to everything else at the time it was released. Still stands up well today
The album starts well with the promising onslaught of Eyeless and slight more relaxed Wait and Bleed but then, for that this was different/new/interesting/out-there at the time, it descends into a repetition of these new ideas which quickly starts to lose our interest. On this debut album it feels like the band are still trying to hone their craft and later albums feel more cohesive and polished
Generic blah blah blah
It’s just all a bit samey
Mellow vibes
This was one of those end of night albums we’d put on after that o many beers. Nice and chilled
Flawless
Enjoyed the couple of classic hits amidst the sea of fillers
