It just got worse the longer I listened. For an album that’s only 33 minutes long, it really dragged on.
The Cardigans · 1 likes
3/5
Getting sick of Neil Young and the Who so this was a nice change
Stevie Wonder · 1 likes
5/5
Stevie’s voice is like butter
The Divine Comedy · 1 likes
3/5
Everybody Knows (Except You) sounds a bit stalkerish.
I’m not sure if it’s supposed to be funny but “If” is hilarious. Sounds like the perfect response to the question, “if I were a worm, would you still love me?”

Lightning Bolt
1/5
Another commenter described this album as “the missing link between metal and dance” and I couldn’t disagree more. They’re clearly competent musicians but I can confidently say this is an album I will not willingly revisit.
Dire Straits
2/5
Dire Straits sounds like what I expect Bruce Springsteen to sound like if I knew what Bruce Springsteen sounds like. Some familiar hits. Many songs went on long and could have cut at least 10 minutes off the entire length of the album.
Simon & Garfunkel
3/5
Not what I was expecting from folk music. Not bad and can see why it’s widely appreciated.
Led Zeppelin
4/5
A little overly self-indulgent at times with the oohhhs and aahhhhs but excellent debut from Led Zeppelin. Amazing how Jimmy Page’s guitar complements Robert Plant’s vocals and they almost mimic one another.
Bill Evans Trio
4/5
As someone who is unfamiliar with jazz, this was a pleasant, enjoyable listening experience. Talented trio of musicians and even more impressive being a live album. Hearing the audience in the background added an interesting element, almost feeling like you’re there too. Would definitely listen to again.
Wilco
3/5
In the first 90 seconds of this album, I’m already sick of the singer’s droning voice but it does get a little better. There are some cool unexpected sounds to the music that make it interesting enough to keep listening. Didn’t find it groundbreaking, but not bad.
Beatles
3/5
Not bad. I never really “got” the Beatles so this was a decent re-introduction even though the first song is garbage. I appreciate how much content is packed into 35 minutes. Is it wrong that I prefer Lennon’s and Harrison’s lead songs over McCartney’s?
Goldie
1/5
30 seconds in and I hate it. The vocals against the music are dated. There is absolutely no need for the first song to be 20 minutes long. I’d like to think I’m open-minded about trying new things, but I had to give up listening at the 4th track. I can’t believe this album goes on for nearly 2 hours. I guess it could be tolerable if you plan to do drugs to it.
System Of A Down
2/5
I respect the work here, but can’t say I really enjoyed it. I get the appeal, it’s just not for me.
The Stranglers
4/5
Had no idea what to expect as I was unfamiliar with the Stranglers.
I’ve never heard a band where the music is led more by the bass with the guitar being part of the rhythm. The keyboard player is the highlight for me while the drummer rounds it out nicely.
No filler here and enjoyed the sense of humor throughout. I think I’ve found some new songs to add into my regular rotation.
Deep Purple
2/5
Most of the guitar solos are excessive and songs drag on but definitely hear their influence in modern music. Not an album I would go out of my way to listen to.
Prince
2/5
Pretty mid. I had higher expectations for Prince.
The 13th Floor Elevators
3/5
It was alright. Better than the 2s that I’ve rated, so would give a 3.
Iron Maiden
3/5
Not bad but probably won’t revisit.
Dr. Octagon
3/5
There’s a horse in the hospital!
Black Sabbath
4/5
RIP Ozzy
Sparks
4/5
Weird and fun
Michael Jackson
5/5
Great album
Robbie Williams
2/5
Mid. Didn’t finish this album and don't feel like revisiting. Not the worst thing I’ve heard but also would not consider this album a “must hear.”
Adele
3/5
“Hello” is such a good song. “Send My Love” is garbage.
Her talents make up for parts of the album that aren’t great or drag on.
Franz Ferdinand
3/5
Not bad. I recently listened to an album by Sparks and learned both bands have collaborated under the name FFS.
Can definitely hear the influence of bands like Sparks and britpop in the weird but fun songs.
Super Furry Animals
2/5
I’d rather listen to Blur
Thundercat
2/5
Wow this really sucked although not as bad as some of the unlistenable ones on the list.
Jazmine Sullivan
1/5
This fucking sucked
The Rolling Stones
3/5
Not bad. Could have done without the last song on the album but overall it was alright.
Emmylou Harris
3/5
Not my kind of music but what a great voice
Elbow
2/5
I wanted to like it but just couldn’t get into it or finish it
Solomon Burke
4/5
The songs blend together as there isn’t much variation in style but what a great voice.
Lou Reed
3/5
Objectively, it’s good but I just couldn’t get into it
Sarah Vaughan
3/5
Beautiful voice
David Holmes
1/5
This sucked
Pink Floyd
4/5
Maybe not something I’d return to, other than the title track, but a good album.
Motörhead
2/5
Started off promising with the first song. It just sounds like bad variations of the same song after.
Simple Minds
2/5
I usually like this type of music but found it forgettable with a lot of filler.
The Cars
3/5
Not bad with some familiar hits
Big Brother & The Holding Company
3/5
Not bad. Didn’t realize that Janis Joplin was in a band. Some familiar songs here that I had no idea it was this group.
Saint Etienne
3/5
It was alright but not like anything I’ve heard before
Sam Cooke
4/5
This was fun
Van Halen
2/5
It just got worse the longer I listened. For an album that’s only 33 minutes long, it really dragged on.
Steely Dan
4/5
Reminds me of music from the Anchorman movies and I mean that as a compliment.
Gang Starr
3/5
I enjoyed this but taking off a star because it did go on with little variety
ZZ Top
2/5
It was like listening to 45 minutes straight of Sharp Dressed Man but not as good.
Abdullah Ibrahim
3/5
Not bad but not as entertaining as the other jazz albums I’ve heard so far on this list
The Who
2/5
Wow this fucking sucked. Still not as unlistenable as some of the ones I’ve rated.
Portishead
2/5
“We Carry On” was the only highlight for me and to be followed by “Deep Water” was such a disappointment.
Electric Light Orchestra
3/5
It sounds like a continuation of the same song. By the time it gets to Mr. Blue Sky, it makes an otherwise good song sound repetitive. It’s better than some of the twos I’ve rated though.
David Bowie
3/5
I’m a fan of Bowie but never gave this album a proper listen. The title track is some of his best work. The rest of the album has some really good songs with duds mixed in.
A solid return to recording for Bowie, but I don’t know if this is a “must hear” album for the casual fan.
Bill Callahan
3/5
Didn’t like this from the start but started to pick up around “My Friend.” Enjoyed the last four songs and use of dissonance.
Bruce Springsteen
4/5
Listened to this Labor Day weekend and it perfectly captures the failed “American Dream.”
Iggy Pop
3/5
I was excited to give this a full listen already being a big fan of the title track and The Passenger.
And I’ve got to say, those two songs were the highlights.
Mott The Hoople
3/5
Kind of mid. Too bad Bowie didn’t have involvement here.
Einstürzende Neubauten
2/5
Is this what it feels like to be a neo-nazi who unironically misses the point of the music they like? Well, I’m not interested in shaving my head or purchasing a weapon after listening to this, so you can’t blame the music.
While I certainly won’t revisit this album, I agree it belongs on this list.
Michael Jackson
4/5
Most of the album is pretty good but maybe that’s because I liked Bad more. Then it’s got Thriller, Beat It, and Billie Jean in a row.
Christina Aguilera
3/5
Not my kind of music but Xtina is such a talented singer. Cool concept that suits her voice well.
Iron Butterfly
3/5
Wait a minute, this sounds like rock and/or roll!
Joy Division
5/5
Bleak but I love it
The Gun Club
3/5
It’s alright but every song sounds the same
Roxy Music
3/5
Reminds me of Talking Heads
Orbital
3/5
Not bad but not something I’ll add into my regular rotation. Some parts were annoying or went on for too long.
Lauryn Hill
4/5
Great album but goes on a little too long
The Mamas & The Papas
4/5
Wow the Mamas and Papas sound like a wholesome bunch! Don’t read into them if you’d like to keep that opinion and just enjoy the music for what it is.
R.E.M.
3/5
I guess it’s objectively good but I can’t stand the singer’s voice.
Bob Dylan
4/5
What is he saying? I don’t really know but I enjoyed it.
The Slits
1/5
This sucked and points off for a this ass band name. I have a sense of humor but don’t find it ironic. I guess that’s just punk or whatever this garbage is.
Ian Dury
1/5
This is a joke, right? Oh my god this was awful.
Gotan Project
3/5
Not bad as background music
Dusty Springfield
2/5
She’s a good singer, but the covers aren’t very remarkable or groundbreaking compared to the originals. Wouldn’t consider this a “must hear” album.
David Bowie
4/5
Not as good as Ziggy Stardust but that’s setting a high bar
Johnny Cash
4/5
Didn’t think I’d be impressed by an album of mostly covers but this was damn good.
Patti Smith
4/5
Never gave Patti Smith a listen although I’ve heard of her. She sounds like a badass.
The Byrds
2/5
I can’t listen to an hour of this
Radiohead
4/5
Beeps and boops in all the right places
Willie Nelson
3/5
Not a fan of country but I like Willie. This was easy to get through.
Fela Kuti
2/5
I don’t get the hype. It’s funky, that’s for sure.
The Modern Lovers
2/5
Meh
John Lee Hooker
2/5
I guess it’s alright. Not my kind of music.
Buddy Holly & The Crickets
3/5
This was pleasant
Neil Young
3/5
Not bad, I just don’t like his voice. Southern Man is a great song.
Bruce Springsteen
2/5
This is the Bruce Springsteen that I don’t like. What is this soft rock JCPenney sounding bullshit. Boring and too damn long.
Goldfrapp
3/5
Before this, I was only familiar with a couple of Goldfrapp’s more electronic sounding songs and really enjoy them.
This album isn’t bad but didn’t do much for me. A&E is a good song. It reminds me a bit of Taylor Swift’s cottagecore era, which I liked at the time, but it gets repetitive.
Stan Getz
5/5
Pleasant, smooth, enjoyable
Sebadoh
2/5
By the third song, what the hell happened?
Screaming Trees
3/5
It’s not bad but not mind blowing
Neil Young & Crazy Horse
2/5
Found this pretty boring
Dion
2/5
He’s not a bad singer but this was boring
Linkin Park
3/5
Crawling and In the End do the heavy lifting here. Some of these songs and the rhyming scheme are just bad.
Malcolm McLaren
1/5
Cant even finish it
The Go-Go's
4/5
Would give a 3.5 but feeling generous
Doves
3/5
Not offensive or annoying enough to turn off. Not interesting enough to have any highlights.
Nirvana
5/5
Great mix of deep cuts and covers
The Who
2/5
The title track is good but that’s about it
The Cardigans
3/5
Getting sick of Neil Young and the Who so this was a nice change
Buffalo Springfield
2/5
Of fucking course it’s Neil Young again
Marvin Gaye
4/5
A little too religious at times but a great album
Air
4/5
Finally a decent electronic album
The Saints
3/5
It’s alright
Radiohead
2/5
Imagine my disappointment after rating Kid A a 4
Neil Young & Crazy Horse
2/5
Man I hate his voice
The Black Keys
3/5
What a stupid album cover. The music isn’t terrible but gets old quick. Would rate 2.5 but feeling generous.
Sheryl Crow
2/5
Even my local grocery store plays more interesting music than this nowadays
Fleet Foxes
2/5
Didn’t jump on the “stomp clap hey” bandwagon when it was popular because I thought it sucked. I still think it sucks.
Run-D.M.C.
4/5
Great album
Bob Dylan
2/5
No, just no
Emerson, Lake & Palmer
2/5
I guess it’s kind of interesting but I just can’t
Led Zeppelin
4/5
Damn good album. A little over the top and self-indulgent at times, which I guess is typical for Zep.
American Music Club
2/5
Meh
Basement Jaxx
3/5
Higher than a 3 but not a 4. Rendez-Vu and Red Alert are highlights.
The Bees
2/5
This album absolutely enraged me. Not the worst on this list but I just couldn’t take it.
Michael Jackson
4/5
Solid album
Tortoise
3/5
Alright background music
Muddy Waters
4/5
Enjoyed this although it sounds a bit the same throughout. Would rate 3.5.
Arcade Fire
2/5
I’ll take another godawful Neil Young album after this
Fiona Apple
2/5
Chaos that doesn’t go anywhere
Green Day
5/5
Still holds up as a damn good album. No skips.
Spiritualized
3/5
Alright background music
Jimi Hendrix
5/5
Never gave Jimi a proper listen outside of the big hits. Damn good album. It’s a bit of hard rock, blues, R&B and more genres from song to song. Really interesting use of distortion throughout.
Alanis Morissette
4/5
Solid 3.5. Iconic album though and rounding up to a 4.
Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan
2/5
Pixies
3/5
Considering my typical taste in music I’m surprised to say that I found this too screamy at times. Also, if you told me this was made 10 years before it was actually released, then I’d believe the comments about the sound being ahead of its time.
Overall not a bad album. I’d rate above a 3, but not enough to be a 4.
Laura Nyro
4/5
You know what, I’m going to round my rating up to a 4.
I guess she’s like a Kate Bush or Tori Amos for Boomers.
Funkadelic
3/5

3/5
Decent album. Scorpio sounds like the best Daft Punk song I’ve never heard.
Queen
3/5

I like depressing music but I couldn’t even get through this. Woof.
Tracy Chapman

+1 star for the Kraftwerk samples. Other than that, could’ve done without this album.

4/5
Fucking Neil Young again…but Heart of Gold is such a good song.
Run-D.M.C.
3/5
I liked Wake Up
Fatboy Slim
3/5
Very repetitive but I could listen to again
Yes
3/5
Decent album to play in the background
The Waterboys
2/5
Is this country or Irish music? I guess I’m not the intended audience.
Michael Kiwanuka
5/5
This was really good and a great surprise. Never heard of this artist and was a little skeptical since it’s a fairly new release. Loved the varying genres - it sounds modern and retro at once, making it a timeless listen.
Jefferson Airplane
4/5
If we’re talking about the re-release, I’d drop a point because of the lack of Grace Slick towards the end. Always loved White Rabbit and enjoyed the rest of the album.
Simply Red
2/5
Agree with another rather that this is that Kmart and department store shit thy played in the 90s
Curtis Mayfield
3/5
It was alright

The Beta Band
3/5
Meh
Pixies
2/5
Can’t get into it
Norah Jones

The Icarus Line
2/5
I like Aaron North but this kind of sucked
Beck
3/5
It’s a well made album but a chore to get through
N.E.R.D
3/5
It was alright. Thought I’d like this more.
Led Zeppelin
4/5
This was good but could’ve been shorter
Nirvana
5/5
Love this album. Songs sound better when listening to the album in its entirety. All Apologies is one of the best closers I’ve heard.
3/5
Not bad and doesn’t deserve as much hate in the popular comments. Definitely would have been a fun ass show for the audience.
The Clash
3/5
This wasn’t bad but a little underwhelming
Animal Collective
3/5
Alright background music
Janis Joplin
4/5
Good listen and an iconic voice. Shame her life was so short.
Penguin Cafe Orchestra
4/5
This was so weird
Miles Davis
5/5
Good album. Absolutely timeless.
Missy Elliott
3/5
Found the commentary unnecessary, would have fit better in a deluxe version of the album. Intro did not age well. But also the commentary was kind of stupid, like why feel like you need to defend your music like that.
Album was ok, stronger in the beginning and too much filler in the second half.
U2
3/5
After reading the critics’ reviews of this album, I don’t get it. It sounds like any other U2 album. It’s not bad, but it certainly isn’t “dark, industrial, electronic, or sensual.”
The Isley Brothers
4/5
Fun album
Kate Bush
4/5
My interest started going down at Waking the Witch. Otherwise a really good album.
Randy Newman
2/5
Take me back to when I only knew this guy for wholesome songs about toy friendships
Hole
4/5
Good album but overstayed its welcome a bit
Ella Fitzgerald
2/5
Don’t care how good Ella Fitzgerald is, this is way too long for the casual listener.
Massive Attack
2/5
What’s with all these mellow electronica garbage albums. I thought Massive Attack was supposed to be good. This sucked but not as bad as the ones I’ve rated.
Brian Eno
4/5
Weird but catchy
Nas
4/5
Life’s a bitch and then you die
The Jam
2/5
Not sure why this is on the list
Hawkwind
2/5
Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should
Various Artists
2/5
No thanks to Phil Spector. I do love the Ronnettes though.
2/5
I feel like Muse is a band I would have pretended to like as a kid in 2006 if I knew of them.
This dude’s voice really takes away from the music. Too over the top.
The Shamen
2/5
Kind of boring
Lorde
4/5

Meh
Leonard Cohen
3/5
Interesting concept. It’s alright but wouldn’t listen to again.
The Undertones
2/5
Thought I’d like this more
OutKast
3/5
I’d rate a 3.5. It’s a little bloated and could do without the interludes.
Otis Redding
4/5
Had no idea Respect was covered by Aretha Franklin
The Stone Roses
3/5
I guess it’s better than some of the twos I’ve rated
Wu-Tang Clan
5/5
Classic
Rufus Wainwright
1/5
With a name like Rufus Wainwright and cover art that looks like that, you better make a damn good album. Oh wait..
The Who
3/5
Pleasantly surprised since the other The Who albums I’ve listened to sucked
Miles Davis
3/5
This was good but too damn long. I guess I’d like it better in the background but Davis is blowing the shit out of that trumpet.
James Brown
3/5
I felt like I was in the Eddie Murphy SNL skit
Jerry Lee Lewis
2/5
Nah
Manu Chao
3/5

I love Supernaut
The White Stripes
3/5
Not bad, it just all sounds the same
Jorge Ben Jor
2/5
Agree with the rater that was reminded of sims music
The Clash
3/5
I think I’d rate this a 4 if it was 20 minutes shorter
Cocteau Twins
3/5
I get the dreamy vibe but it’s underwhelming
Aimee Mann
2/5
It’s ok but don’t know why it’s on this list
Elvis Costello & The Attractions
2/5
Why are the vocals so loud. They’re clearly not the highlight here.
Prince
3/5
I don’t know if I’ll ever truly “get” Prince. A couple of good songs and a bunch of shit I’d rather not listen to.
Elton John
4/5
Not something I’d return to, but can’t deny this is a good one
Django Django
2/5
Seems promising but nope not for me
George Harrison

The first song is great. The rest I guess is in background music.
Can
2/5
I don’t know what to make of this
U2
3/5
So Bono’s always been like that huh?
Only highlights are Sunday Bloody Sunday and New Year’s Day and they’re damn good songs. The rest is exhausting.

It’s like 45 minutes of La Grange but not as good
Bebel Gilberto
2/5
Give me a cigarette in some swanky dark cold bar and I can enjoy this in the background

4/5
What’s not to like about Dolly?
Arctic Monkeys
3/5
Maybe this is what the cool hipsters listened to before stomp, clap, hey

Dwight Yoakam
2/5
Oh nah
Cyndi Lauper
3/5
Not bad. My favorite song from here turns out to be a Prince song. Her voice reminds me of Luanne from King of the Hill.
Buena Vista Social Club
3/5
Pleasant background music. Now I just need something good to eat and drink and maybe a beach.
Ali Farka Touré
2/5
Not something I’d listen to again but cool that it’s on this list
Steve Earle
2/5
The cover looks like it was made on PowerPoint
Amy Winehouse
4/5
Super talented artist. Shame this was her last album.
XTC
2/5
Ugh
Bob Dylan
3/5
Not bad but sounds the same
Missy Elliott
2/5
I just don’t have the patience to listen to the few good songs from Missy’s albums
Creedence Clearwater Revival
4/5
Sounds a little samey, but it’s a good listen and like 30-minute albums. Bad Moon Rising is such a classic.
Deerhunter
2/5
Nah
Scissor Sisters
2/5
I don’t know, sounds like a George Michael rip off
The Rolling Stones
2/5
Wow this surprisingly sucked sandwiched between a good opener and closer
Rod Stewart
2/5
Meh
The Streets
1/5
Oh no no no. Who told this bloke we want this?
Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band
2/5
Can’t find this anywhere but based on other reviews, looks like I’m not missing anything
Beatles
4/5
I think I still prefer George Harrison’s songs over the others. Tomorrow Never Knows is a cool song too - good drumming and liked the effects.
The Adverts
1/5
These punk bands overstay their welcome. What happened to quick and punchy albums?
Jane Weaver
2/5
The first song is promising. The rest sucks.
Steely Dan
3/5
I could listen to it in the background but wouldn’t willingly go out of my way for this. This is better than some of the pretty shirty 2s I’ve heard so I guess it’s in the middle.
Merle Haggard
2/5
Nope
Lynyrd Skynyrd
4/5
Great album. Still a couple of songs worth skipping.
The Kinks
2/5
Less interesting version of the Beatles
The Cure
5/5
I feel like such a fake fan of The Cure not giving this album a proper listen until now, knowing this is a favorite of many fans.
On my first listen, I thought is it bad that I prefer Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me over this?
But I gave the album another listen and holy shit, this slaps. I pick up on more layers the more I listen. Reminds me a bit of Joy Division. Favorite song is A Strange Day…how could I have slept on this for so long?! Honorable mentions go to One Hundred Years and the title track.
Big Star
2/5
I’m tired boss
Small Faces
2/5
Why do I want to hear these long ass generic 70s albums. How many are there?
Beatles
4/5
This could be a 5 if the goofy, filler songs were pushed to b-sides, making the album more cohesive and cutting down to half the play time.
It’s like they just threw whatever shit they wanted on this album because they were bigger than Jesus, allegedly.
808 State
2/5
I guess it’s ok to do drugs to or if you’re in like a space video game world
Joan Armatrading
3/5
Not for me but she’s talented
Todd Rundgren
2/5
Why is this so long
Fugees
3/5
It bad but I had trouble getting into it
LL Cool J
2/5
Can’t find this on Amazon so I listened to the title track. Holy shit who let this dude make this?
New Order
3/5
I’d rate a 4 if they stuck to one style for this album
Television
3/5
I don’t know, this was kind of tough to get through
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
2/5
Ok I was going to rate this a 3 but the last song literally made me say “ew” when I heard the spoken word part.
I feel like I should like this, but it just didn’t do anything for me.
Madonna
3/5
Would rate a 3.5. Like a Prayer is such a good song.
The Sugarcubes
4/5
Would rate a 3.5 and round up. They’re like Icelandic B-52s.
The Who
2/5
Why do we need a live album by The Who now
Koffi Olomide
2/5
Pass
The Divine Comedy
3/5
Everybody Knows (Except You) sounds a bit stalkerish.
I’m not sure if it’s supposed to be funny but “If” is hilarious. Sounds like the perfect response to the question, “if I were a worm, would you still love me?”
4/5
I like the white album better but this is still decent
The Rolling Stones
3/5
The familiar hits are great. The rest was ok.
Black Sabbath
3/5
Not as good as other Black Sabbath albums I’ve heard. The sludgey songs were harder to get though but can appreciate that it’s a decent album.
Frank Ocean
2/5
This was kind of a drag
Elvis Costello & The Attractions
3/5
This dude starts off promising and then goes to shit
Carole King
5/5
Great album
The Kinks
3/5
I stand by my comment on the last album I had by The Kinks. They’re a less interesting version of the Beatles.
Joni Mitchell
4/5
This was a great listen. Felt fitting hearing this shortly after Carole King’s Tapestry.
