It's rare that I immediately get excited about my album of the day. Today is one of those days but also bittersweet. It's been a while since I've listened to this one all the way through. Damn, I love her voice. Throw in Mark Ronson and the Dap-Kings on top of that? So good. Listened twice.

There are some Bowie songs I like, and Ziggy Stardust is pretty good, but most of it just is not for me. I can listen to it, but I'd prefer something else. This album in particular was quite unsettling.

I know and like Mr. Brightside, Somebody Told Me, and All These Things That I've Done already. I don't listen to the radio so didn't get as sick of the singles as some folks seem to have. Solid debut album but some problematic lyrics. Probably won't seek it out as a whole, but I could listen if it's on and I did heart some tracks.

I like some of the beats and the samples, but the lyrics are boring and pretty heavy on the misogyny.

I like Madonna, but I would not tell anybody they need to listen to this electronica wallpaper before they die. At least the version on Deezer doesn't have the American Pie cover. I did have to misophonia skip some tracks with whispering, though. NOPE!

Dolly Parton is a national treasure! I've been waiting 287 days but finally got assigned one of her albums. With bonus Linda Ronstadt and Emmylou Harris. I don't even care if the songs are slow. The vocals are outstanding, lots of lovely strings, and I am here for this.

Deezer informs me that Public Enemy has a show with Guns N' Roses at Carter-Finley Stadium (home of NC State Wolfpack football) this summer. Interesting. Good beats, good lyrics, good commentary. Little bit of misogyny but not nearly as bad as some hip-hop albums I've been assigned. Bring Tha Noize was fun.

Just had Fragile less than two weeks ago and I wasn't particularly impressed. Seeing that this is only 3 tracks and goes for almost 38 minutes, I am not excited... Yeah, I was right. There were some cool bits but they quickly disappeared as the track meandered on. It's like being at a potluck dinner where the person who brought the mac & cheese didn't bring nearly enough. My plate has a bunch of random stuff on it but only one small spoonful of mac & cheese.

I'm not usually bothered by songs being overplayed, but man, were these singles overplayed. The rest of the tracks are rather dreary and forgettable. Had to skip Pieces of What when I couldn't take the vocals anymore.
