Not for me
Was every song used to score a movie? Vibes that lean soulful, jazz?, country twang? Everything feels like a coffee shop hit! Solid album just starts to run together. I believe we get a violin in I’ve Got To See You Again. Do love the cord scratching in Lonestar. Don’t Know Why obviously a hit.
Good all around album. Feels like one of those, "If you have listened to queen, you have heard it" type things. Already a fan of Queen, so this was a good listen. White Queen, and Some Day One Day were two of my favorites. 7.3/10
“Is that elevator music?” I am angered by my inability to find the adjectives best suited for writing these. Dark room, bourbon on the rocks, cigar smoke. Feels right? Shocked to see two “songs” when I first opened the album. I like this, I really do. Will I remember it in 3 days, sure, but I’m probably not going out of my way to play this again. Next chance? Fall night, out on the deck with yes of course, a bourbon on the rocks. 6.7/10
Going to be honest. I will upset people I am sure, but I couldn’t get past the voice. Not my choice of music at all. 4.5/10
This was an alright listen on my way to work. It got saved by 2 or 3 songs for me. Mrs. Robinson, A Hazy Shade of Winter, and I think Fakin' it were my favorites. Weird beginning, solid ending to the album. I don't think I will go searching to play this again, but would let it ride if it came on randomly. 5.2/10
I keep hoping for something outside of the 60s and 70s, and although this is not... I will take it. I am not going to act like I know music, or have the best rhythm, but it appeared there were some "testing it out" times that seemed a touch off beat. Along with maybe trying things that aren't instruments, and recording those sounds? I think the drummer is awesome, but had a few times I felt it fell off. All around a good album. I would recommend this to someone else just to try, but I am unsure I am running back to play this. 6.7/10
Unmistakable. Heavily Sampled. Iconic. THE Otis Redding. This album slowly, and yet all at once, grew on me. From one of the most recognizable voices, the thundering horns, rocking guitar, and roaring bass. I stupidly told myself after the first song that, “this is what I thought it would be” well I’m an idiot. It’s not. Respect, and My Girl are obvious top choices, but for me my favorite song on this album is Down In The Valley. I could listen to this any day. Each song appears to take you somewhere else that allows the album to twist, turn, and mold to the occasion. I can see how others may think it “sounds similar” but I’d suggest listening again. Then you should listen again, and then one more time. 8.3/10
This album grew on me. Meshed together sounds, ur found myself listening to it about 6 times. Solid album. 7.4/10
I don’t like it. Grew on me, but I don’t like it. 5.8/10
Really good album. Would recommend to others. Gave you the 90s style flows, with moving beats. Glad to have found this. *EDIT* I can’t stop listening to this album. 10/10
Iconically iconic. Lauryn Hill’s legendary vocals both rapping and singing. This album is filled with the hits. The ones that have been sampled and remixed a countless amount of times. Great all around album, but could have done without some of the skits. Anyways. The hits are the hits: Ready or Not, Killing me Softly, Fu-Gee-La… I really enjoyed Zealots, and The Beast. 8.2/10 Classic
The hits are ones everyone has heard many of times. The other songs were just there. Average album. Good sounds but average all around. 7.1/10
Makes you want to run around, maybe even through a wall? Instruments are actually really good here. The drummer is a legit! All in all not for me. 4.8/10
Both UK and US versions are solid.
Solely a 3 because of Paper Planes.
