Not there best album but oh baby is a tune

It's so unusual to get an album from this era to review! Spotify pushed <oh baby> on me for a while but it sounded a bit too much like a bloated U2 anthem to me. Within the context of the other songs though, I like it. Their sound is a nice combination of layered dark EDM and post punk. They mix up the tempo and styles enough, the lyrics are clever and the singer changes his style enough to be bearable for a full album. Not all the songs clicked for me but, they would have been leftovers if this was a vinyl offering.

I've heard LCD before, never in depth. This album, being in 2017, feels a lot like 80's British Pop, especially on other voices. Funny enough, Apple Music is saying the nods to Talking Heads and 80's post-punk are apparent so I was close. This is an American band but I'm sure the people who made this list heard this album and thought it was British and that's why it's on this list. I don't blame them. I liked change yr mind as well. Fun dance beat.

Now this is how you do synth-pop proper! Not like that Chemical Bros crap I just listened to. How do you sleep, Tonite are standouts.

I love the singles. "how do you sleep?" is a 9 minute bop. Definitely a good post-punk album.

Whoa, gotta be the newest we’ve had on this list! I’m not a big fan of LCD, but I actually saw them in concert with Andrew and Alden, that was really fun. I’ve heard this album before and only really liked one song (“oh baby”), but this time around I liked some more. This is a good album, but it doesn’t hold my interest all that much. Still, some solid hits to get you dancing. Favorite tracks: oh baby, other voices, how do you sleep? Album cover: So simple that it feels cheap. Getty images-level of effort here. I love looking at the sky as much as the next guy, but give me a break. 3.5/5

Surprised this album is in this list. This is definitely the worst LCD Soundsystem album but even their worst is still very good. 7/10

Quite glitchy? But some great moments

track one is strongly reminiscent of The Big Pink, who i love. track 2 is much more talking heads...who i also love. at one point, i swear heard devo in there somewhere. first track was definitely a winner, as was the last (which was amazing!), but overall i really appreciated the diversity of sound on this one.

I always appreciate James Murphy. Maybe this’ll be better on a second listen-thru. I still liked it.

While this feels like lesser LCD Soundsystem, it’s still fantastic LCD Soundsystem.

Takes a sharp nosedive after the stellar track 1 but later on redeems itself.

Some of the songs are alright but overall its just to much with the repetitive loud drums and spoken vocals

Putting it simply, I just hated this album. Putting it not so simply... This album sounded like the results of a music comp teacher telling their class to create a song that is dance music that you are unable to dance to. It sounds like what Norwegians think peak dance music is. I don't know who this appeals to. It was too atmospheric to groove to. It was too shrill and discordant to chill to. There were a couple parts of a couple songs that I actually liked, but the songs are soooooo long, it was like going to a theme park when it's too busy and you stand in line for 2 hours for a 30 second ride. As the final 12 minute song wore on, all I could think about was how much I wanted it to end, like it was the last 5 minutes of a lecture and I really have to pee. Does this album belong on the list of 1001 albums you need to listen to before you die? No, I guess? It was released in 2017, a time in which there is practically infinite music. It's better than the stuff I hear when I put Bandcamp on shuffle, but that's about all I can say about it. Listen to something else. My personal enjoyment: 0.5/5 Does it belong on this list: 1/5

Opzich wel een goed album maar niet helemaal mijn ding. Het heeft wel een fijne dromerige vibe

clearly in a minority here, did not like this (not quite as much so as the Le Tigre, but I think only because I thought it overall blander). Interminable, and monotonous - and a vocal styling I could happily do without any more of for the remainder of my life.

nice electronica

Only the first song 'oh baby' I liked a litebit. Not realy an album for me.

Started out a little weak but got progressively stronger with each song. I like the synth-heavy rock style that they got going on.

Pretty clean production, good songwriting, like the atmosphere/feel of the album Reminds me of !!! and a little bit of talking heads Not super groundbreaking Kinda long, 7 tracks in and its starting its getting less interesting Got pretty boring by the end of it. Not sure because it was first listen, but either the album is front loaded or very samey throughout. 6/10

I fucking hate that band.

First track starts with a dope intro like the song is gonna drop the bass or something. It dropped some sweet fat synths reminiscent of 80s synths. The haunting male vocals come in softly and there is a nice soundscape going on with arpeggios and pads. Great track and build up was dope. 4/5 Second song, "other voices" there's a good dance track it is bumping it has a good baseline and the lyrics are kind of not important so you can dance along to it there's a little bit of variety introduced with some guitar work and synthesizers the good thing is the track is steady all the way throughout. In "I Used To" the band has another awesome dance track that you can listen to and get lost in. There are sweeping synths that jump from the background to the foreground, the tempo is perfect. Then the guitar that comes in perfectly timed gives a chance to energize the song and climax. Love the vocals and the deep deep reverbs and delays used throughout. number 4, "change yr mind" starts off with a track. Then goes into full industrial electronica, with harsh and unrelenting brasses and synths. Black screen is such a great song. I listened to the album and second time around on a better sound system and it was an improvement. 4/5 stars good solid electronic/dance album

Well I’ve listened to this album too many times before. Highly recommend it. Top 3 tracks for me are Oh Baby, American Dream, Black Screen

Ensimmäistä kertaa kuuntelin tätä levyä vaikka joskus LCD Soundsystemin aiemmista levyistä jollain tavalla tykkäsinkin. Tämä on aika hajanainen kokonaisuus, josta löytyy sekä perinteisiä poppibiisejä että hieman kokeellisempia viritelmiä. Vähemmän kokeelliset biisit (esim. call the police, american dream) toimii kyllä hyvin, mutta ihan kolmea tähteä paremmin levy ei jaksanut pitää otteessaan.

I liked this one pretty well. Good mix of singing and music that can play in the background while working. Not pure electronica, but I don't think it's trying to be that in any case. 4 stars.

I liked this album more than the previous LCD Soundsystem album that I got through this list. This one felt like the Talking Heads at times, both in terms of the vocal performances and especially the polyrhythms 4/5

This feels very Remain In Light inspired. Long, drawn out grooves. Feel like it’s not quite as much a hodgepodge of sounds and soundplay as This Is Happening or Sound of Silver. I think it’s really cool background music. The vocals could be mixed a little higher imo. Some songs I think maaaybe overstay their welcome a little, I think some of the vocals are just a little TOO trying to be eccentric. I think it sounds really good but I’m not in love with it. I don’t think it’s BAD, but Idk I do think the magic isn’t quite here on this one

First relisten and something about the looping or extended beats come across as monotonous. I always have this issue with LCD Soundsystem for some reason. Enjoyable songs that get dry quickly

Wack ass album

I've listened to a bunch of LCD before but never actually sat down with this album. I think it loses steam somewhere near the end; especially on the last two tracks, which are a combined 25 minutes. It's not bad, just maybe trimming the fat would have made this a great album. Favorite tracks: "how do you sleep?", "other voices", "tonite"

9/10 sad, back with a vengeance, some of the best tracks they've made, some that's samey

4.5, but honestly, cant really find any major flaws with the album. Great mixture of energetic tracks with slower ballads, with super dense instrumentation.

Ok this is NOT my preferred style of music but it was REAAALLY cool. like 70s gary numan-ish vibes but mixed with modern dance beats and stuff that sounds a bit like U2. And considering it goes for almost an hour and a half and I didn't complain about the length.... fuck yeah. 4/5.

Never really got into LCD; probably because of that daft punk song…. But this is great. Definitely worth exploring further!!
