Reviews (page 8 of 8)
This came out in 2017 but it sounds dated already - sounds like it is experimental late 70s electronica. Just not great. 3/10.
Thinking about this and maybe on some of the albums I am not familiar with should get a couple listens.
What an odd pairing this is. Nice techno beats but than followed up by this guys depressing as voice. Don’t know whether to jam or shoot myself.
Boring ass dance.
Wasn't super into it, a little too stream of consciousness for me I think.
Not their best
Meh

I don't know for certain, but this might be the most recent release I've listened to via this project. It's good to see more current music here, too, much as I adore music from all throughout the last century and before. This album is okay, but doesn't do much for me. It's a bit repetitious and I just wasn't all that pulled in by it. Some tracks engaged me a bit, and I can hear some interesting things throughout. I don't know much at all about this genre and what influence this band or album had on others so I'm sure I'm missing the point, which is not surprising given my ignorance about a whole lot of musical things.
enjoyable if a bit droning. Would probably be quite enjoyable to sit back, eat an edible and chill to.
This album is too much of the same sound. I enjoy the style, but hoped for more variation.
Too long
Meh
Electronic indie rock/pop. Some ok dance tracks, but does not move me in general
ok background music
Pop con sintetizadores. Infumable. Le pongo un 2 yo no sé por qué...
i can see how someone would like it but it's not quite my thing
This is the second album of LCD Soundsystem I’m rating. The first one I liked better. In a list of 1001 albums I think LCD soundsystem shouldn’t be in there twice. One album is fine for me, but I am sure there are more essential albums than this one.
For this list, its the middle of the road. Admirable and clearly a talanted band, but this album is not something I would listen to again in full. The good: It had some enjoyable songs. Call The Police, Oh Baby and Tonight were the cream of the crop. There were others that had a good groove and overall no song was awful. The bad: The album and some of the songs just went on for too long. The title track for instance could've been edited down as it was repeating itself, and the 12 minute Black Screen at the end made me wished it was over.
It's pretty good. But, nothing I would listen to outside of this list.
This album has great potential, but more than 1 hour of electronic music is always the worst scenario for me. "call the police" is a very nice song.
not my kind of thing. lyrics, music, Instrumentation, vocals all just pretty bad. not one i will come back to
Meh... Not my jam
If a Britpop band recorded a dance album on acid, you'd get this album. Very Life Is Strange, End Of The World Party vibes. Honestly went in expecting myself to hate it, but I wasn't tempted to turn it off until Tonite, which made me want to headbutt a wall. Solid 2/5 I think.
Didn't hold my attention
It was just eh nothin of notability
First listen. Some definitely interesting sounds. I enjoyed it and look forward to hearing it again next time. 2/5 (for now).
I've not listened to much LCD Soundsystem before, but what I have I preferred to this.
This is not a good album. None of the songs were objectively terrible though so I guess I can give it 2 stars. Can't for the life of me understand how this is on this list though.
Meh, not my thing.
I went into this with high hopes as I'd heard good things about LCD Soundsystem, but didn't end up enjoying it much at all. Most of this album was reasonably forgettable background noise, but there were a few more jarring moments which made it difficult to concentrate on work and I ended up just wishing the album would finish sooner. I remember liking one track, but as I'm writing this during the last track it feels like it was ages ago.
Overall a very bland, stereotypical electronic album. Not much stuck out. Very forgetful.
The problem when can't really sing and just talk over the music is that everyone can clearly hear how inane your lyrics are. Sometimes this works if the music is good enough to be able to ignore the lyrics, but that's not the case here either. Not bad just something I wouldn't feel the need to listen again.
I listened to some of the album. The first song was really good. But none of it really drew me into listening more
This inst his best work
Meh. A few catchy songs but overall a bit of a snooze. Emotional haircut was a great track though!
There were elements of this that I liked. 'oh baby' was an enjoyable opener, but I did not like the next track, 'other voices' - it was really dissonant but not in a satisfying way. Similarly 'how do you sleep?' i just don't get it 😅 This is one of those where the longer it went on the less I enjoyed it overall. There were moments I liked and moments I didn't. I did give up but I don't think this album is totally irredeemable, just not my cup of tea.
I imagine this probably sounds great if you’re out of your gourd on molly. But that’s not really my thing, so this isn’t really my thing.
It's really interesting to me that this was released in 2017 because it sounds so 80s- and not in the way that "Blinding Lights" and some songs off "Future Nostalgia" sound 80s, but this sounds authentically 80s/new wave (no shade to the above song/album- they are just more 80s influenced). Having said that...this album also has songs that are sometimes sonically repetitive/monotonous which also feels very true to the 80s for me. It's not bad but not something I feel like I'd gravitate towards again.
Not a big fan.
Not good
Hate to say I didn't even finish it. Not my cup of tea.
LCD Soundsystem have some good tunes, none of which are on this album.
First couple of songs were good, so was 'call the police', the rest was a bit dull.
Unusual to have a dream that sends you to sleep 😴
Jotenkin laimeaa menoa.
Tällainen musiikki ei nappaa just ollenkaan.
Dull. So Dull I can't be bothered to write a review. If you want a band who use samples well, listen to the Avalanches. 2/5
dificil... no aporta res...
i thought i liked LCD soundsystem before I listened to this
Minimalist experimental electronica. A few grooves, but I wouldn’t suggest listening sober.
Just not into it.
Some of the songs are alright but overall its just to much with the repetitive loud drums and spoken vocals
clearly in a minority here, did not like this (not quite as much so as the Le Tigre, but I think only because I thought it overall blander). Interminable, and monotonous - and a vocal styling I could happily do without any more of for the remainder of my life.
Only the first song 'oh baby' I liked a litebit. Not realy an album for me.
Not the best LCD
not super memorable, easy to listen to but really just background noise.
At first I thought I was going to really enjoy it...but it's a bit grungier and depressing than I expected :P
Ei tarvinnut kuunnella kahdesti.
First relisten and something about the looping or extended beats come across as monotonous. I always have this issue with LCD Soundsystem for some reason. Enjoyable songs that get dry quickly
Parani loppua kohden, mut ei tää mikään masterpiece ollu
Wack ass album
One of those bands where I am totally clueless as to why they are so popular. Not for me, Clive.
no
Most painful album for a while…felt like garbled rubbish. Didn’t even work as background music.
Hard listen
What a load of dross. Feels like they are just playing notes in random order.
I’m 3/4 of the way through these 1001 albums. I gotta say, overall the list is incredibly disappointing. I can’t believe this album (and so many others) is on the list. 1
The third-best LCD album surely doesn’t belong on this list. This “comeback” record (after they said they were breaking up, sold out MSG, then came back a few years later… pshh), feels like a mostly Talking Heads rip with some LCD-esque bleep bloop mixed in. I saw them on this tour in Toronto - holy shit did they ever seem like they were in it for the money.
fav songs: none disjointed, uninspired, no payoff 10/100
Shite
If the goal was to create the most annoying patterns out of the most obnoxious sounds while skipping around the beat, they succeeded. When is the appropriate time to listen to an album like this?
Bull****
everything wrong with modern new wave revival so fucking boring and pretentious
song titles are in lower case. gee that's clever. i didn’t even make it to the end of the first track before my wife pleaded from another room, “TURN IT OFF!” even with headphones — which actually makes listening to lcd worse — i couldn’t make it through these songs. ended up skipping through most of them. lcd’s songs often take forever to get going and still manage to go nowhere. i can’t fathom what others see in lcd. so aggravating.
Zelden zo'n kut muziek gehoord
What a stupid name and a stupid album cover. I thought I was gonna listen to some weird digital sounds because of it and at times it actually sounded like that.
Just fucking awful. I should’ve gotten into music 10 years ago. All you have to do is do that stupid dream voice and press some buttons and hipster douches eat it up.
Just not my jam
Not a fan. Boring
Ugh more torture from lcd soundsystem.
yuck!!
?? weiss nicht. c
Not a vibe
Bad. Too bad. Totally forgetable songs, superficial and weak album but could not expect anything different from them. It is hard to understand why this album made the list. Really bad.
Track 1 was a good opener but it reminded me of another band. I don't know. I feel as though I've heard it before. Track 2 was OK. I am up to Track 3 and wondering what exactly made this essential listening before I die.. 'how do you sleep' (track 5) makes me feel as though I'm falling through an endless disco in slow motion. Honestly it just gives me a hankering for some Pulp and a cup of tea. call the police (track 7) is only intensifying this feeling. I would have been very happy if black screen (track 10) had been the last track. pulse (track 11) sounds like the Nokia ringtone drunkenly yapping away at a party. Look, this album made me feel things. Mostly a strong desire to be listening to any of the albums that inspired it. But this is good. Right?
Low effort album cover is appropriate
I loved the first LCD Soundsystem album. This one seemed like James Murphy had been hanging out with David Byrne and ended up making a shitty Talking Heads record. So disappointing and I can't believe it made this list.....
Ass
More turgid tripe from Robert Dimery's Turd Buffet™
No he entrado mucho en el disco.
I knew I was going to despise this one based on how I felt about the last one we did, and this certainly lived up to that - fucking horrible. Why does every song have less than one idea in it and yet lasts for 15 mins?
Not a good album, I understand its electronic, but the beats sound very samey like a 5 second clip that is repeated until the end. The lyrics are just there for the sake of it too. Complete one and done, I dont even see this as an album that does its job well at all, at a party? Who would spin anything from here.
You're not Kevin Parker. You're not Talking Heads, this is a no. This needs to be below a 1 star.
You could recreate this album if you pressed play on a Casio keyboard demo button and sang in your most whining voice. Didn't like it.
Really not my stuff No jive, just rhythm and some light singing Sounds like a kid who just got their first DJ program
Yawn. 🥱 I don’t understand the criterion that is used to compile this list, but so many of the albums that I’ve been recommended recently weren’t worth listening to…
Hot garbage didn’t even finish
The fewer words written about this album, the better. 1/5
There's a reason that beat poets are a niche thing. They should stay niche. This was somewhat listenable electronica with garbage lyrics. No
What a waste of time. Nothing interesting, just monotonous, generic electronic that feels a decade too late.
Not really for me this one - on the plus side I don't have to listen to it again....
I was hard on the LCD Soundsystem that came out a decade earlier and sucked. Here we have a guy who is 20 years too old to be at a party that hasn’t happened for 10 years anyway. Making chill ironic indie electronic with titles like “change yr mind” in 2017. Awful, terrible, hate it.
It sounds like experimental music from the 80s. So not that good. And when I sae that this is from 2017, it automatically got worse. It's for the best if some of the music on this planet exists just as demos, and this is a great example.
Not my thing
This album sounds like it's trying super hard to sound a specific way. I find it kind of irritating for some reason. At times it sounds like a shitty version of Talking Heads.
Synthesized garbage. No music here. Just noise.
Not my deal
Not for me.
Had high hopes going into this given that I’d heard about the band so much. Not a fan of whatever this genre is if this is the mountaintop.
Complete crap start to finish
Not my type at all. I couldn’t get through it.
Suck
unlistenable garbage
I like electronic music, and this was the first album of electronic music from this generator, and I just couldn’t finish the album. Not for me.
Electro-pop, speak singing nonsense.
non si può persuadere il peso
the participation trophy of albums. every song extremely overstays its welcome.
This was terrible. There's much better electronic on this list and elsewhere.
Couldn't get into it
Payola. I'm convinced that whoever compiles this list got paid to put some of these albums on the list. This album is one of them.
Video game back ground music. Not real interesting. 1001 album worthy: No - 7/14
Day 72 - No idea when I got this album This shit sounds like an elementary school student was told to make an electronic album but could only use Garage Band. 1/5
Track 1 sounds like Suicide, the rest sounds like someone spent a LOT of time listening to Bowie's late 70s / early 80s output. And U2. The artwork is meh.
1. baby - 1.5 2. voicez - 1.5 3. uzed - 1 4. change - 1 5. zleep - 1.5 6. tonite - 1.5 7. police - 1 8. dream - 1.5 9. emotional - 1 10. black - 1.5
Good electronic/ wave band. Been strong over the years.
Very derivative - New Order (all the beats, many of the synth sounds), Talking Heads (especially 'Other Voices') and David Bowie around Lodger ('Change Yr Mind' ) Nothing in the way of an original idea here One star
If this had come out in the early 2000s maybe I would have thought it was substantive, but I'm just not getting it. There's one very cool vocal harmony moment in "other voices," but...that's all I got. Do they not get bored playing this music???
Pass.
sure, i had a horrible ex who loved LCD soundsystem and i always found them annoying, but I'd be willing to look past that if this dweeb could produce a pleasant or interesting sound with his voice
Mostly shite
p947. 2017. 1 star. Tedious electro dance that desperately wants to be Bowie, but lacks both the talent and the songs. And too many of the tracks descend into wankage - no-one needs a 12+ minute final track. WTF is this doing on the list?
More like American nightmare. A hard nope.
Not my thing
Not even the best LCD Soundsystem album. Also, really drove home the fact that James Murphy doesn't sing, he talks.
It’s okay to skip this one comlletely
Electronic music doesn’t speak to me
wow this gets a 1 for sounding like its from the 80s and being from 2017.
I really tried.
This guy sucks
A bloated final album that needs to cite Talking Heads (see title track) as an influence on top of Berlin-era Bowie. Overall: 1/10
Not my thing
Poor.
Not my style….
Not my type of vibe
Bowie Verschnitt
Dès le premier titre, il y a un truc qui m'a tendu. J'ai pas continué.
I don't like
This style of blending electronica and rock can work and actually be really good, but this album doesn't show that. Had never heard anything by LCD Soundsystem before and was excited to finally listen. I'm going to listen to their other albums, but this was not a good start.
Well…. I don’t like this one. Often irritating, occasionally merely boring. Every once in a while both. There were some decent moments where they almost sounded a little reminiscent of Modern English. It it is all based on repetitive electronic rhythms. 1/5.
Mostly a miss for me, few decent songs though
I don;t know what to think of this, but it wasn't anything I was expecting, or really enjoyed for that matter.
2synthy4me not my pile of garbage 1.5/5
Did not enjoy this one. Every song was waaay too long. Just the same 4 beats repeated over and over. Music as bland as the album cover.
Can’t believe this made the list
I at least had 1 or 2 songs that I liked...but the album itself is not really for me. It's somewhat of a longform music, which reminds me of when I used to listen to Deadmau5 when I was ~11/12, but this is less electronica and more acid rock. Not really something I'd seek out or enjoy if someone else was playing it so 1/5.
One great song, but the rest of the album is over rated.
1.5
Some Echoes of Talking Heads (I used to) and David Bowie (change yr mind) against a dance track. Lyrics sub par. All too long. Cover art: 2/5 simple clear and direct. 5 mins on ppt could make this.
Hated this
Meh
not my cup of tea
“Frequently recalling U2 at their bloated worst. This record is no cause for celebration. It's a slab of nothing, a media spectacle for the terminally impressed."
Just not my kind of music. I’m sure some people will like it but I found it very boring.
Didn't enjoy this album. Was too electronic for me. 1/5 stars.
Some shit albums about
Did not enjoy
I didn't like the Lyrics
Chiant pour du LCD
Einfach nur Grütze!
Boring beyond belief.
From the first song, I knew I wasn't the audience for this album. To my ears, the synthesizers are as ugly as it gets. I hate the vocals too, which are the unholy result that you would expect if George Michael and Bono had a baby. The torture continues with the second track, perky synths and drum machines essaying a reductive dance rhythm. I may vomit--I'm out.
Totalt reapad
I fucking hate that band.
Meh
this album blended together. It was so boring, that I skipped a few songs.
No
Anxiety inducing
