Reviews (page 7 of 8)

2,5 Not the best, naar ook niet zo erg dat je het moet afzetten

As a fan of rock and electronica, I thought I was going to enjoy this more than I did. The vocals were hit or miss, I wasn’t feeling the spoken word type parts. And the music wasn’t as catchy or laid back as I thought. Nothing stood out to me here.

Тру ЛСД музыка, даже на фон не очень зашло

Not my cup of tea, way to chill.

Not for me. Oh baby, change yr mind, and Tonite were the only ones I somewhat enjoyed.

This was clearly the era of the synthesizer and the drum machine. It gets boring after a while.

The description on Spotify (Andy Kellman & Tim Sendra) states that LCD Soundsystem exists "at the point of a Venn diagram where the loose grooves of disco bump up against the wiry spikiness of post-punk." That perfectly sums up my conflicted feelings about this album. The lyrics made an impression but the post-punk, techno did not.

Boring

Ziemlich elektrisch, ein etwas monotoner Rhythmus. Nichts, was mich vom Hocker gehauen hat. 2/5

The problem with this is how bloated it is and how badly this guy wants to be a modern day David Byrne. At times it even feels like no one has told him the lyrics to this album are weak.

Ugh no

Feels like an album that should be deep and experimental but misses the mark. It isnt that bad to listen to but its to safe to be experimental and to experimatal to be great.

People love these guys, and while I can imagine why I’ve never been one of them…

Not my vibe, it’s alright. 2 stars

Moments of genius followed by many more moments of meh. Really wish I could have liked this more. Mid.

Mostly recalls better albums (which should come as no surprise to anyone who's hard "losing my edge"). Normally that means a distillation and evolution of a sound, but this is more of a flattening, a greying-out. So it's not bad, but whatever it brings to the table seems like less than what's come before. The chasm between the attempt and sticking the landing mean this one gets dinged.

This was like an homage to all the post-punk new wave 80s bullshit this album list has made me listen to. It’s for some people out there, but not for me.

Normally I would give this a 3 but it disappointed me so much I had to take one star away. This is your big comeback album? You go on hiatus for 7 years and you release an album where you are riffing off of popular 80s bands? He does Talking Heads multiple times, New Order, The Cure, U2 and The Smiths at least. Pretty sad that almost a decade after you throw in the towel you'd come back with an album that just sounds like other people. Gross.

I found this too samey. I didn’t hate it, but not my favorite album of theirs by a long shot.

Had potential but blew it.

Again a bit of a weird one

Long and boring songs, but a few interesting sounds here and there.

LCD sound systems attempted to channel the sound of the 80s while making it somehow more electronic. There are a handful of just straight up rock songs so idk a bit confusing - I feel like they’re trying to hit a bunch of genres and are… missing

5.8 out of 10

Sold but not as good as their other albums

The beats were excellent, but needed the lyrics and singing as they were just background beats. The singing seemed as though it was trying to achieve a discordant sound purposefully, which it succeeded, but I was not a fan of the result.

Best: Oh baby I don't see anything special about this album, I would be more impressed if it came out in the 80s but otherwise it doesn't seem remarkable. Some of the sounds capes it creates are enjoyable but its lacking any particularly impactful songs. Rating as a 2, not a 1, because it's listenable and we'll produced

Penultimate track is spectacular. Now that the only good thing is out of the way, oh boy. I thought I liked synths, this album made me loathe them. I thought I hated David Byrne and U2, this album affirmed it. I thought that in no way some really good rocking instrumentals could be ruined by someone yapping or badly singing over them, but yet again this album proved it can be done. Fuck off, and never again. Great music on occasion though, so it would feel wrong to give it a 1.

OK. 2/5

Oh babyyyyy

Fast paced electronica rock with a steady bass line and high tech sound effects. LCD Soundsystem has lost their luster since Sound of Silver. American Dream is no where near as good. Got a decent twofer with Call The Police and Emotional Haircut, the rest of the tracks ran long (even during an elliptical workout.) The album is not a nightmare, comes in at (2.3*s) Maybe they just ran out of ideas…

All the songs sound the same - and I don't care for this industrial styled electronic sounding looped drum machinery nonsense.

Incessantly boring. The David Byrne comparisons are interesting. There’s an undeniable similarity in the song construction. I don’t particularly enjoy listening to Talking Heads, but if you listen to this back to back with, say Stop Making Sense, it reveals the lifelessness that I find inherent in (or at lease ubiquitous in) electronic music. Similar rhythms and structures - and the humans’ grooves expand and contract and glow and morph while the machines just drone on and on and on like a ticker tape or a monitor showing a word processor with a stuck key on the keyboard.

Sometimes a homage comes off poorly. This album feels like a corporate approved plagiarism of a New Order, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Talkimg Heads synth vibe that it just fails to rise to the level of its influences. I like 8-bit video game soundtracks but not when it passes for influential disco electro pop. 2⭐️

Dusty. Dry. Derivative. Ideas that have been done to death. Sound assets that were feeling overplayed by the second LCD Soundsystem album. This isn't a horrible album by any means, but nobody has to listen to this before you die.

It has some okay moments, lots of them even, but in general my reaction was something like "c'mon, do something cool..." and they never did

Another day, another LCD Soundsystem album that makes me think they were the ones that made that old youtube theme song but then I remember that it was called 09 Sound System Dreamscape

I wasn’t really into this. The song “American dream” reminded me of a song from the killers though. But yeah, nothing specific , just wasn’t feeling it.

I don’t dislike it, just felt like listening to a generic brand.

2 out of 5. Not enough going on and not for me.

This isn't my first album for LCD Soundsystem, in fact it's my fourth so I generally knew what I was expecting, or at least I was until I saw 2017. That is surprisingly recent and pass his "hot" period. So I went in with a vague sense of direction and not much else, but that I'd like it much like I do their other projects. I was met with a strange album, spacey and atmospheric and yet made to dance to. A weird but not impossible blend and I think ultimately the actual music presented is not at all bad, but for electronica in 2017 it feels unjustified in even existing. Songs like "tonite" sound aged on release and I'm not even sure if this album was released 37 years ago these sounds would be seen with much kinder eyes because they feel immensely generic. In listening to this album (about 4 times in the past day) to pin down my feelings I note there are two versions, one that is 10 songs and one that is 11 and the cut 11th song named pulse(v.1) sounds hilariously like terraria music. This is a good thing though I think that's actually a fairly fresh and timeless sound y'know outside that games soundtrack. But that does raise a different question, even on the 10 song version this album is 68 minutes! I am no stranger to long songs and albums within justification but this album does not justify or even warrant this length. "how do you sleep" is about 3 minutes too long and the entirety of black screen feel like it doesn't do enough to be there. Also the fact it took me four listens to actively decide if I liked or disliked something is not a good sign. This is genuinely getting my lowest rating for a few reasons. 2017 is, as I said on another album recently, pretty recent and so the deeper influence of this album will be hard to fully see but even then I can look very closely at the genres it released in and you know what else came out in 2017? Melodrama and Big Fish Theory, and that's JUST in electronic genres or adjacent. Also, there are only two LCD albums on this list and while Sound of Silver absolutely justifies it's place and I will sing its praises eventually, I would swap this album with "This Is Happening" in a heart beat and even the self titled on most days. Both those albums have similar (or even further) issues in length but sound a whole lot better. I genuinely like LCD Soundsystem and thing some of their work is insanely good but this? This isn't just underwhelming, it's disappointing. Best songs: call the police, pulse(v.1) Worst songs: tonite, black screen Rank compared to everything else so far: 25/25 (below Dub Housing)

I loooove long songs on an album…usually. This one, while not outwardly bad, just seemed to drag on forever, with not much novelty or excitement to keep my attention.

There are lots of sounds and pieces of LCD-SS that I really like, just when all put together into a song, it always misses the mark for me

Two stars, my star system is one star some redeeming qualities, two stars more interesting things happening appreciate it, but it’s not for me, three stars a really good album, four stars great album, five stars one of the best albums

LCD Soundsystem is overrated.

They call it the American Dream because you have to be asleep to believe in it...and...how do you sleep again? Just listen to this boring album for over an hour. Favorite Track: how do you sleep?

electr. Pop, 2017 -> 2

What stuck to me mostly with this album was how weak - and frankly boring - this sounded. The album was released in 2017, but it sounds like it could've been released sometime during the 70s or 80s, and I don't mean that in a good way. I didn't even have to google the band to understand that the whole crew is getting quite old. The singing was subpar and annoying. The songs were very long, for no benefit at all. And so was the album. Usually bands with some electronics to it pique my interest, but this was not my cup of tea at all.

will hated this one. i thought it was fine but i like sound of silver better

Some great production but unfortunately a bit too samey and combined with middling vocals, I’m not in love with it.

Is it over yet? Boring.

Talking Heads but boring

One of this band's great talents has been to take a minimal groove and make it work for long stretches of a song, layering shifting and moving elements on top of it and keeping it engaging throughout. ("All My Friends" from their second album is perhaps the best example of this, making the barest of chord progressions into a thoroughly engrossing song.) That minimalist approach has it pitfalls though, and on *American Dream*, the band flubs it on a grand scale - on these songs the grooves are so basic and the basslines so generic that the songs are static to the point of being nearly lifeless. The first half of the album is a slog through dull, dreary songs that have little to offer, and frankly LCD head honcho James Murphy sounds like he's in a bad mood. Only on track 6 ("Tonite") does some light enter the proceedings but this too sports a first-draft bassline that Murphy didn't bother to try to improve upon. "Call The Police" has some energy but sounds like little more than a Psychedelic Furs b-side. After that it's back to the slog with the tedious waltz of the title track followed by two more repetitive-and-no-fun jams to close out the record. Coming after two untouchable five-star studio albums, *American Dream* is a real bummer.

As an American, my dream is to not get another album by this group. I was letting the album play in the background, then I got distracted and started playing something else entirely, forgetting the album was even going. Says volumes. Eventually picked a song later in the album to continue from and was left wishing I had just left the album stopped. Not as bad as the previous album I got of theirs, but still meh

Not terrible but didn’t need to be this long

Lot of repetitive electronic parts. Not very amusing

There’s really not much to say about this one. It is 21st century techno that somehow sounds like it came from the 90s, but without any of the charm that made 90s electronic music fun.

Gear: SIMGOT EA1000 Fermat Artwork: 🌤️🔠🟦 Production: 🎧😘🤌 Music: 🎛️🔄🙄 Rating: 🗽🗽/5

An interesting but ultimately futile attempt at reviving New Wave long past its expiration date. They're certainly competent, but they try so hard to sound like an 80s band that it sometimes becomes a bit laughable. It's also needlessly long and overbloated ; I enjoyed about half the album, then it turned into a chore. The last song felt endless. 4/10

Typically one of those bands whose name I know really well, but whose music I actually don’t know at all. The first tracks from their debut album scared me off a bit, so I gave in and tried this latest one, and here it’s airy, pretty post-punk, with a touch of dream pop. Once again, it works quite well, though the instrumental side could have been stronger, with more obvious buildups. Still, it’s pleasant to listen to, perfect as background music or while commuting … until the last few, more dance-oriented tracks, which really aren’t my cup of tea. Their atmospherical side is worth exploring further.

Vibes: 2/5 Instruments: 1/5 Production: 2/5 Emotional Value: 0/5 Storytelling: 3/5 Stand Outs: other voices, call the police Overall Rating: 1.6

Entirely unremarkable.

Background electronic music. Nothing stood out.

Not my thing 4/10

I like some of LCD Soundsystem’s other stuff but I honestly did not love this album. Songs I didn’t mind were I used to and call the police.

I wanted to like this, but the singing reminded me too much of Talking Heads and U2, which was an instant turn off! Not for me!

- sehr nice sounds - mit dr zyt bitz eintönig - nid guet zum konzentriert schaffe - vilech eher zum male/ choche/ irere bar

I liked the first track, the rest were take it or leave it. Too much looping melody lines and the songs are waaaaay too long.

Had it on in the background, can't say I really remember much of it. Not up there with Sound of Silver or This is Happening

Not something I would listen to again. Ok at best.

Not feeling it - cool sounds but didn't hold my interest

Honestly, I liked this album more than I thought I would. However, I am still giving it a 2. The songs are too long and I don’t think any of them are that special, even if they don’t sound too bad.

I tried, I really did. Listened to this in full three times, mostly paying quite a bit of attention. When LCD disbanded in 2011 after their wonderful, massive Madison Square Garden final concert, I thought “good for them”. Then when they reunited for this 6 years later, I was not pleased at all, so I listened to it once (was not impressed) and then forgot about it. I hate it when famous people, usually musicians, retire and then come back — yes, I dislike Michael Jordan for that reason. So now eight years later and more mellow than I was in my 60’s (sure, I’m babbling) I thought maybe this is a good album, seeing as how it’s worthy of being in the 1,001 collection. It was fine but nothing special. I don’t like EDM in general, and this feels like a generic album in that genre. The main problem is that the songs aren’t that great, with very sparse hooks compared to their two prior albums, This is Happening and Sound of Silver. I checked songwriting credits and Pat Mohoney is involved with 3-4 tracks on each of the two earlier albums and only on one here. Probably coincidental, but the songs here aren’t as good. Shockingly, This is Happening is not in the 1,001 Albums (it’s be a solid 5 start from me) while this is — we’ve already done Sound of Silver. 2.5 rounded down for disbanding and then not disbanding.

This is pretty dull stuff that sounds like melange of influences all tossed together. It was pleasant enough, but doesn't strike me as a great album, and I'm not sure why it has made this list.

A bad U2 cover album

Yeah. Don't like this one much. 2 stars

bono degli U2 canta sopra una base electronic-disco-punk. anche no dai

I’d rather be listening to Talking Heads

Inte jättekul.

Its a. Nice album the first song is really good and made me want to listen more which is rare for an electronic music album smwhich I consider should not be in any list. This one is better cause there are lyrics and good as well.

Not for me

After the first track (oh baby) I was hopeful that the more scathing reviews were wrong however I was the one that was wrong. What followed was just as horrible I was led to believe. american dream (the title track) was alright but two alright songs don't save a truly dreadful album.

Oh boy, 2 penny depeche mode. After listening 3/4 it was not so bad after all. Still not my cup of morning coffee. Vocals were okey. Techno music not so okey, annoying beep boop

Interesting tunes, but not really my style. I felt flashes of something that I’d want to go back to but overall wasn’t hooked by this.

Honestly, this was a big empty vaporwave dissapointment. A few songs sounded similar to some of their older stuff, but nothing here is worth a relisten. 2/5

Fine at points, just not my thing

No termina de ser mi rollo pero el uso de los sintetizadores y las bases me han gustado. Se me hizo un poco largo, pero es una apreciación sin importancia

2 this was boring

Too soon

80's but not in the way I like it. I don't love the lead singer's voice.

IT’S A TRAP! I was lured in by the brilliance of Oh Baby, but I felt like every glimmer of gold after that was steamrolled by something clunky.

I didn’t hate this as much as I expected to - I don’t like electronica. But there were a few moments I quite enjoyed

this man's music and character are repulsive to me

Not my type

Dance music. Not my thing.

Synth pop music. Lots of manufactured beats and stuff. Talent for sure. Not my kind of thing. Good to dance to.

Liked some of it.

Lots of computer beeps that I can make on my keyboard too.

Didn't really like the whole sound of it.

Every song is way too long and WAY too repetitive. They pick a short little two-beat riff and just repeat it for 5 minutes. There are a couple nice vibes, but they get annoying after so much repetition.

Have heard of the band but not heard the band. After now listening to this album with all the beeps and boops I’m okay with that.

A real shit, derivative new wave which was 40 years old and people try to pass for avant garde. The first half is abysmal the second gets better so I give it 2

I was working in alt rock radio when this album was released. It made no impact because it really does nothing groundbreaking. Other bands have done more with similar sounds

I'd give it a 2.5, but I'll set it at two starts since I highly doubt I'll ever pick it to play on my own

This is a crazy great album. My favorite track on it is Murder by Numbers. I also loved Oh My God. The references to other songs is classic. Every Breath You Take and Wrapped Around Your Finger a re classics. Mother is a skipper. I’ve never liked that song at all. Synchronicity sort of makes me nervous. The tempo is too much. I never knew what they were saying in Tea in the Sahara, but it never mattered. I love this song. I love Stewart Copeland’s drumming. It’s just so forward on the tracks and I love the ska beats on a lot of songs. I’m torn between a four and a five I would give it a 4.5 if I could give halves there’s just a couple tracks that I don’t care for and I really like some of the older Police albums better, so I think I’ll stick with the four.

I think they're brilliant live but I just can't get into them recorded

Too long and too boring. 2/5

I really don’t know what to say about this - I didn’t hate it, but I couldn’t tell you anything about it either. It went in one ear and out the other. Just not my thing.

An artist where I knew the name, but couldn't remember ever hearing anything by them. The discordant rhythm of "other voices" was almost uncomfortable to listen to but I liked "i used to" a lot more. "tonite" actually made me audibly laugh. "change your mind" I absolutely hated the guitars on. I found "how do you sleep?" just dull. I don't know how to rate an album that had tracks I really liked, absolutely hated and thought were meh... 2/5 I guess?

What a boring album, it was very repetitive and it was like listening to the same song over and over again, I'd get if you listened to some songs sometimes because I liked some of them but the whole album just got boring at some point and I was just waiting for it to end

I don't like LCD Soundsystem

Better than the other LCD soundsystem album but still not for me

I don’t get it and I don’t really care for it.

wasn't as bad as the other one

Didn’t hold my attention. Repetitive, melodic, metronomic. Will need to listen again to see what I missed!

My god, this album is way too long. If they would have skipped the last two deadly boring songs, totaling 26 minutes... And I really can's stand the singing: especially 'I used to' is incredibly out of tune. On a positieve note, the JM Jarre-like 'how do you sleep' is rather okay (but again way too long), 'emotional haircut' is a punky energy-song and the best song I think is 'call the police'.

Nightmare more like

2 at best, maybe a 1.

Electronic dance music? No thanks, again. Two boring stars. And the album and songs are way too long.

Inititially, I liked this better than Sound of Silver. And then I realized it just started to sound like a lot of other bands put through a blender. Various 70s/80s British New Wave bands, plus Joy Division, Flaming Lips, Talking Heads... I mean... It's not bad per se, but I really don't get the fuss about this project.

They do have a cool sound but the tracks drag on and become monotone

I kinda lost interest in these guys when they retired, and then returned, what, two weeks later? Anyway, this sounds like more of the same of what they did in the 00s. It's not bad, in fact a few tracks are very good, it's just, more of the same? High 2s.

Perfect for people with either a brand new TV or insomnia.

Pretty boring overall

Not a fan

At first, I was dreading getting myself through this album. It was similar in a lot of ways to the album I had got the previous day, and I wasn't exactly looking forward to another day of the same thing. However, I will say it did grow on me as the album progressed. It was by no means my favorite, but the songs could, at least, be catchy at times. The vocals were nothing remarkable nor was the lyricism, but the music wasn't half bad.

On occasion I’m visited by my ghost of contrarianism past. The uniform of fringe, band merch, chainsaw belt buckle and skinny jeans protects a thin skin; he’s unconvinced by any cultural paraphernalia that managed to get popular – especially so if it did so without him having felt on the ground level of it. The fringe long since battled back to respectability and the fit of jeans finally allowing for a less restricted gait, we have space now to reflect. Stubbornness in youth, one can surmise, is mostly fine, just so long as it dissipates before it arrests development. To never let go or never let in are equal tragedies. To be given the chance to return to the primal scene of your obstinacy is, from that perceptive, a real privilege. And so my thoughts are buoyant. What talents did I overlook? What feeling did I allow to sail by? What dances – I usually preferred to stand outside and smoke, bless – did I fail to dance? Well, what a shame. I’m so bored by this record that I’ll likely never get to find out. It rumbles along pleasantly enough, takes the odd risk, but it seems to lack a certain spine. It’s a mash up of genre mash ups gone by, only with the most interesting parts of the portmanteaus filed down to inoffensive nubs. Electro pop without the pomp, new wave without the cool. Sometimes I suppose growth means just giving things a chance – and other times, it’s knowing when to quit. I managed to stop smoking. That’s got to count for something.

Groupe inconnu. Les morceaux s'étirent en longueur sans jamais proposer de variation ... ce qui donne de la musique de fond pas désagréable mais sans intérêt. =>2/5

Maybe my memory is failing me, but this isn't the LCD soundsystem I remember.

Ok listen. Not a fan of electronic music

ned so in the mood gsi för das. het zum teil chli tame impala vibez, aber insgesamt weniger gfühlt. eis lied wök no nice gfunde -> american dream. müesst em vlt en zweuti chance geh

He just be saying thing

Gross I'm not sure what that was

Hyvät ainekset. Sitten vain tekemään levyä.

Not quite

This was honestly just very mid. I get some Talking Heads vibes, and some of the tracks had a cool atmospheric sound, but there’s just not a lot of interesting melodic content.

one of the worst album covers I have seen. looks like an old default windows home screen with default text. first song is already nothing to really stand out. as soon as something cool sounding pops up its gets drowned out, by non impactful lyrics and a self insistence that smashing on a keyboard is good music.

I gave it a couple shots, at different times, but just can’t get excited for this album. It’s not terrible, it’s just nothing to write home about. Listen again: no Purchase for my collection: no Favourite Song:

I don’t know why this guy’s voice reminds me of a human drum machine. It just sounds kind of robotic. The music is bland. The whole thing sounds like it was made by AI. Soulless songs which drag on and on and on. Emotionless.

Booooooooooooooooooooring. I got really tired of the 13-minute tracks. -1 star for originality. -1 star for instrumentals. -Half a star for lyrics. Great when you can actually hear it. -Minus 1 for being a bad mix, repetitive and boring. -Minus 1 for not being catchy or singable or even danceable. Overall: 2.5, rounding down because this guy cannot write anything under 4 minutes long.

Original compositions played as if they were covers. Lowest common denominator copies of actual post-punk songs. One or two listenable cuts.

Shit music’s playing in my house, my house 2/5

This was a teetering on the edge of mediocre until the final 2 songs lasting >10 mins each offered absolutely nothing. No chance of a return to this one and baffling it’s on the list

"call the police" and "emotional haircut" are good songs, but the rest are kind of ordinary.

Very uneven album. Some cool new wave-ish tracks with a dark undertone, some happy bouncy tracks, and a lot of dross. The worst part is that it drags on too long. Far too long. And the last two tracks, 25 minutes in all, are in the end what drags it down to a two

I love seeing newer albums pop up in this list. This was a band that I had heard of but never listened to so I was excited to dive in. My excitement soon faded. This is just a rehash of post punk but without the shock or passion that that movement had. It doesn't push the sound anywhere new or innovate in any way. It's well done for what it is, I'm just saying that I'm not impressed with what it is.

Way too drawn out

I just found it so dull. I'm often a bit harsher with newer albums cause the context is just so much more complex and the potential influences are endless. This had some level of uniqueness that deserves some credit, but it doesn't save it from being dull.

Eh, mostly not for me.

I didn't mind this album, but it just wasn't my kinda music. Last few songs were a lot longer then they needed to be. There were some good songs though, mainly at the beginning. Album just wasn't me. Favorite Song: oh baby Least Favorite: black screen

I was evenly split in this album: 1/5 the tracks I thought had something interesting about them, and the other half of them almost annoyed me to the point of turning it off. I think # 3, 5, 6, 7, and 10 were alright. It's highly unlikely I'll listen to this again.

Another contemporary one. The 2010s really aren't my decade at all, but it's comforting to return to the kinda-current year every now and then. I've heard about LCD Soundsystem in passing. Nothing of note, mind you. I've just heard their name. I'm expecting this one to be an electronic album, which is usually within my music-appreciating wheelhouse. Lookin' forward to giving this one a go. This was simultaneously exactly what I was expecting, yet also nothing like what I was expecting. Very minimal, but with a little bit of a groove going on. The lyrics and vocal performances are generally pretty insipid and all of the songs are scandalously long, but once I tuned all of that out this album became tolerable enough to me.

Wouldn’t listen again - I don’t think I get LCD Soundsystem like other people do. My favorite song was when this album looped into dance yrself clean 😂

There were parts of songs that I liked, but as a whole felt too long and sounded quite repetitive

lowkey ok especially the first song but the rest is meh

This is a band I vaguely dislike and listened to again today to see if the album might awaken a new perspective. This was not the case, and I still felt a tepid disdain for every song on the album. Just not what I'm into at all.

About 15 minutes of music that worked for me, but a 70 minute run-time meant that wasn’t nearly enough.

Not interesting

Kind of boring and monotonous I thought. OK but sort of meh as it dragged on. Emotional Haircut was probably my favorite, with a sound very reminiscent of Devo meets U2 circa 1986.

Λιγο vocals,λιγο edm, λιγο daft punk, λιγο ροκ. Πολυ βαρετο.

Familiar with LCD Soundsystem, but not familiar with their post-reunion works. You certainly hear a lot of new-wave, David Bowie, U2, and maybe some Talking Heads influences here. Every track seems to operate on a grand scale (maybe TOO grand for its own good at times), most of which sounding very atmospheric whilst touching on social issues, depression, and overall endings. "Tonite", the synth-poppy and introspective single, and "Call the Police" are the obvious standouts here. The rest I didn't really jive with. Lyrically interesting, but the result felt bloated.

A softer art-pop Foals crossed with 80s electro pop that does nothing to stir my soul

Very ‘yeh, whatever’ comeback album from LCD Soundsystem who said they already broke up in 2011 and gave a massive self-congratulatory farewell concert for it. This album is more like American Sleepwalk or American Staring into space on a long rattly pitchfork indie train journey. Songs have that general super original Bowie/Talking Heads blend and one of them copies that Shehnai sound off King Crimson Sheltered Sky that goes on for way too long. Overall not entirely wretched but quite annoying on every other track and unlike their previous releases deeply, deeply bland. I got bored and fed up half way through and just switched on to Substance by New Order for some actual banging electronic indie.

If this is here does that mean there are three LCD albums on the list? That seems like two too many.

oh baby is a good song, but the rest didn’t really do anything for me 2/5

not my kind of thing. lyrics, music, Instrumentation, vocals all just pretty bad. not one i will come back to 2 🌟

Sound of Silver is so good that I sadly need to compare these two. american dream is just flat compared to Sound of Silver. Maybe in a vacuum it gets a 3, but I need to compare them.

Blending together, very dreamy vibes to start out and then it got more raw and rougher. I have a hard time with things that don't seem to go together. It is like they wanted to write lyrical poetry and make cool vibes and then force them together. Didn't hit for me

Not really my thing

This is not quite as bad as their earlier stuff. The King Crimson/Talking Heads influence helps. But why does it have to be so long?

LCD Soundsystem is, for me, a weird band. I love all their obvious influences (Talking Heads, New Order, etc.) but yet, outside of a few songs, I don't like LCD. The instrumentation is all there, but I can't connect with it. The problem with this album specifically is that all the songs are way too long and it is missing an obvious highlight like All My Friends. It is not bad per se, but it does feel like a waste of potential.

Talking Heads without the irony. Or talent.

I gave Sound Of Silver a 3 and said "its just a lot of mid 00s angst over mid beats" This is worse than Sound Of Silver because its just a lot of late 10s angst over even lower than mid beats

# Album Name: American Dream # Artist: LCD Soundsystem # Rating: 2/5 # Comments: I enjoyed LCD Soundsystem back in the day so i was looking forward to getting stuck into this album. I've never heard it before but realled enjoyed their stuff from the 05-10-ish period. Sadly this did not live up to those expectations. The tracks didnt really click for me. They were reptitive and too long. The length of the album killed it and brought it down from a "OK this is an average 3" to a 2. Shame really. I will go back and listen to their earlier stuff now though instead. Which is much much better. # Top Tunes: Non. # Would I listen to it again? No.

This was ass

This album was good. It did get boring after a while. "Black Screen" and "pulse (v.1)" were toooo long. Clearly a lot of talent went into this but not my style. It started to feel repetitive. Liked songs: "call the police" and "oh baby"

Och ja, hat mich sogar zwischendurch an U2 erinnert, aber sonst

The music itself was ok but the dreadfully monotone delivery of the lyrics annoys the shit out of me. It’s the quickest way for me to be absolutely bored of your music when you express no emotion with your words.

The least influential of all their albums everything the made prior to this was way more interesting. Snooze fest

HOW the HELL does THIS make the cut, but “This Is Happening”, one of the greatest indie dance albums of all time, DOESNT?????

Just boring and long.

Not my listening style by any means. I couldn't get through it fast enough.

I usually like LCD Soundsystem, but this album just wasn't great. I hope this isn't their only album on this list, it's definitely not the one I'd choose.

I don't think this is essential but then I drifted off after a couple of songs, paused it for a work call then never unpaused it. I mean that certainly was an experience I needed before I died. Probably ok but really who cares.

I didn’t grow up listening to jazz- But I now enjoy jazz. I didn’t grow up listening to electronica - I will never enjoy electronica

So this was a "comeback that almost wasn't" album. But having missed the first act anyway, I was unenthused by the reunion.

Ugh... not a fan. 2/5

It sounds like they want to be the Cold War Kids, but with bad synth. This is their comeback? I really need someone to explain to me why LCD Soundsystem is SO good. I haven't heard anything from them that isn't done better by Chvrches, Glass Animals, Cold War Kids, or Animal Collective. And that's just the OTHER critical or Pitchfork darlings. They sound like another generic synth alt band to me. It's fine.

This band got so much hype from a few of my very music obsessed friends, they were so emphatic about every single note, that I think it turned me away. Plus, this is mainly electronic indie which is not my thing. But giving this an honest and openminded listen, I do admit that I had moments of enjoyment. The last album of theirs that I had, Sound of Silver was better though. That one is the pinnacle of their career for sure. The song about being a baby was funny, that made me do a double take. But, I'll never put this album on again and I don't remember a single track.

147/1001

This is so slow, it's sucking the life out of me.

I liked the opener, but I do find his singing insufferably smug and indulgent. He simply has too many words.

1001 better albums from the 2010s that could have been chosen over this. Another in a long list of competent albums, but that do nothing for me. There is much better stuff from LCD Soundsystem than this.

I just don't care about this band. A couple songs are good, but mostly I find myself bored. 2/5

There were a couple of moments when I thought this album wasn't too bad, but it was overall pretty awful. Once I switched it to background music, I managed to endure to the end without it being too intrusive. Probably somewhere between a 2 and a 3, but I'm marking it down for being too long.

Not really my jam.

I think its just over my head. I didnt vibe with this very much. Although a song titled Emotional Haircut is pretty funny, along with a weird surfer rock tone to it. Overall it seemed like a slog and very reptetitive. Just not for me.

Too long and boring

An electronic record without any novel ideas. Songs having more of rock flavour are better. how do you sleep and call the police great tracks. The 12 minute closer black screen very grim and sad. But overall it's underwhelming.

Nah this was pretty boring especially for 2017. I'm guessing they're using some obscure vintage synths that synth nerds go crazy for or something like that, but it ends up sounding pretty basic.

Nothing special, not awful but too long, would not go back to it

It's an LCD Soundsystem album. Nothing more. Not much less

To me, this sounds like hipster disco, there are some intriguing elements to it but overall it just feels like a pretentions attempt to make elevated dance music. I prolly won't choose to listen to this again. 2 stars

Repetitive electronic pop. Didn't care for it.

Didn't grab me at the time, still not doing it.

A bit underwhelming, really. Sounds a bit like Talking Heads on an off day.

Basically the Talking Heads meets The Killers. If this came out in 1988 I would be impressed.

Not sure if I'm being a bit harsh but I can't really remember any of it. The Spotify playlist that was based on the album was so much better than the album itself.

I was hoping to enjoy this more. I know people LOVE this band, and I've liked a few songs here and there over the past decade. But idk - sometimes reminds me of U2 with more bleeps and bloops. Sometimes his singing just straight up sucks. Was hoping for more - maybe his earlier albums will stick better.

Still no

Favorite Track: american dream This album had a unique sound considering it was released in 2017. Most of the songs have good early 2000s night club vibes. I found this album to be average, but still enjoyable I rate this album 2.5/5

Album 415 of 1001 LCD Soundsystem - american dream Rating : 2.5 / 5 This is all over. A decent track comes along and then followed by a bunch of electronica crap. Some sounds like a sound effects album. The good stuff is good and the bad stuff is bad.

тъпо, 1-2

Surprisingly boring, given the show and music they had when I saw them live. At best a worse version of talking Heads (change Your Mind song), disappointing.

This was boring. The songs were too long and became tedious. Not a big fan of electronica.

A whole bunch of beep boop buzz buzz music underpinned by motorik drumming that should be a gas, yet it fails to stir the soul. It's like these guys heard Talking Heads, Devo and the Units but didn't absorb the bits that were smart, edgy or fun. "I used to dance alone / Of my own volition" - gimme a break, pal. Admittedly, "how do you sleep?" and "tonite" are good. What's with the lack of capitalisation here? Some kind of post-millennial tweeness? They should just follow those Japanese bands that list English titles in all caps. Speaking of, where are the Japanese artists on this app, eh?

Never have been a fan.

Why is this band popular

i dislike it. very underwhelming and boring. i just don’t get it. what was the point ?

Kinda long and boring.

meh, some if it was okay. a lot of it just kind of drones on forever is what it felt like to me.

vilket slöseri med tid... alltför självmedvetet, vaktat, pretentiöst från sångaren för min smak vilket drar ner ett par bra instrumentals.

could i write poetry to this? n

It's like electronic U2

Before listening I was familiar with the name LCD Soundsystem and nothing else. They were older and less electronic in my head. I read a review here that called this "dance music that you can't dance to". That sums up about half the album perfectly. If they had cut that out, you'd have a normal length perfectly fine album.

Meh.. but oh baby is one of my favorites ever. Glad to have been reminded of it here

Some of these songs have their moments, but I don't think LCD Soundsystem will ever really connect with me. It's a little too meandering, monotonous and overly obsessed with being cool. Did catch myself nodding my head and tapping my foot a lot, though.

This was a little weird. I was so ready to dig into this one and it did not deliver what I hoped. There’s a reason we don’t hear about this band more. I think that reason is because his songs are so easily skippable. I like the first minute of each song. This is a good sampler platter, but not a fully realized album.

Kinda passed me by to be honest. Logged in to do my review and my first thought was "is this what I listened to yesterday?" Which isn't a great sign is it?

Couple of songs I did not skip. Life’s too short!

This was okay.

All their other albums, I'd understand, but this? This was just placed here because the guys who made the list don't know anything about music passed 2001. What a shame.

Meh. Definitely wouldn't make me want to explore more.

I have never really gotten LCD Soundsystem and they continue to just not be my jam. This album is probably the closest I've come to enjoying their music because they sometimes rely less on disparate spoken word-like lyrics in favor of actual melody in songs like "oh baby," but I still continue to mostly struggle to get through their work.

Very Talking Headsy sound, but with too much electronica for my taste.

Can't really get into it, I found that the first few were good, but the rest wasn't that great.

Not for me. It's fine I guess, but nothing wild. There's better electronic music from 2017.

Kinda boring

But my vibe at all

Didn't hate it but there was nothing that made me want to listen to it again.

Lots of musical influences evident on this album. The second half of the album was song after song of “oh I know this song”.

# 80 : meh, I can listen to it, but it's not good, midtempo disco rock is not my thing. Nothing stood out and I would not go back to that/them. Emotional Haircut 04/10/2023

Dance for indie kids.

C oh baby 2 other voices 1 i used to 3 change yr mind 2 how do you sleep? 3 tonite 3 call the police 2 american dream 3 emotional haircut 2 black screen 2 This was okay. It definitely grew on me the more I listened to it. I like electronic music. There, I said it. I admit it.

Meh. It’s ok but I don’t hear the greatness.

Pop con sintetizadores. Infumable. Le pongo un 2 yo no sé por qué...

Ugh, more electronic music. I gave it a chance, but no. Mostly repetitive, and whiny vocals.

Meh. Was hoping for better. 2/5

I would be willing to give this album more credit if it wasn’t clearly James Murphy’s blatant attempt to start his ego and cash machine back up. Breaking a strong hiatus when your band bowed out at its peak is one thing, but going on to play for crypto conferences and packed residences in the middle of COVID is pretty telling of his intentions down the line. Problematic creator aside, this album can’t decide on its identity - I love the dark, brooding synth tracks in the vein of ‘i used to,’ but for every one of these actual artistic efforts there’s an art-school wannabe song or lyric that just ruins the vibe. Murphy whines all over this thing and honestly should just shut up and let the other band members make music, and the closing track ‘black screen’ ending in a minute of silence is about as subtle as a punch in the face. It feels like there’s a great introspective album in here that could’ve pushed the band in new directions, but it’s so choked out by unnecessary gloss, posturing, and indie pick-me energy that it’s really a mixed bag at best once all is said and done. James Murphy is basically this generation’s Morrissey, and in all the worst ways.

Some of this I liked okay, but it was too long.

Ei nyt mitenkään erityisen miellyttävää kuunneltavaa. Pisimmät kappaleet how do you sleep ja black screen mielenkiintosimmat, mutta muuten tosi meh

Cat: I really wanted to like this! I think I thought it would be more dancey/daft punky? Instead it’s just more of the crap we didn’t like from the 80s, just 25 years too late. A lot of the songs started and I got hopeful that I’d like it, then the weird lyrics and screechy dissonant guitar would kick in. Boo. Just when I thought I needed a break because it was so bad, I got to call the police. Still very 80s, but more pop and it was tolerable.

Prefiero los otros discos, aunque este grupo nunca me llamó la atención y nunca entendí el interés que el resto demostraba por ellos.

I guess this could be described as a goth disco album. Unfortunately it's just a dreary shamble through a set of unremarkable songs. Not completely impossible to listen to, just not very rewarding.

american dream is a bit too all over the place for me without ever hitting a truly positive note. It's just there, doing nothing, 2ing all day long.

Not my favourite album of all time. Don't get this one, it's got the worst bit of Sound of Silver (the overly long tracks) but without the highs really. There's nothing as catchy as the best few songs on SoS, call the police is the only one that really gets lively. Someone on the site describes it as 'dance music that it's impossible to dance to', which feels not far wrong to me. 2/5.

Nothing really great about this listen. I like the bands name though.

Not for me

Not for me.

I've listened to a bit of LCD Soundsystem and mainly his debut album but it's never been my type of music. Songs like "losing my edge" are alright but not much more. This album is actually not better than that. I think some of the songs got some interesting electronic sounds and especially the first half of the last song "pulse (v.1) but overall I rather listen to some Daft Punk or The Avalanches.

Really disappointing effort from James Murphy. 4/10

This was tiring to listen to in one sitting. 1h22m. It’s weird to say as a fan of stuff like Sleep but for my tastes the album would benefit from most songs being a good bit shorter. The instrumentation was weird in a fun way. Talking Heads vibes. Favorite tracks were emotional haircut, how do you sleep?, and pulse (v.1).

Heard it before?: No Enjoy it?: Not really, just too slow and dreary (not in the good way) for me personally Favourite song: didn’t have one

I just cannot get behind this Talking-heads-esque music. Track 1 is the only highly listened to song on this album and it sounds exactly the same for nearly six minutes. Track two sounds identical to the talking heads. These songs go nowhere and have no "peaks and valleys". Could not finish.

As great as LCD are and as much as I like James Murphy, this album didn't do it for me. It's just as derivative as the previous albums, but somehow not as good. Also, a few of those high notes smell like Bono, watch yourself James!

Wasn't as good as I remembered it. Maybe I am just old now.

I don’t even know man. So much here is just aggressively mediocre. “How Do You Sleep” is a diamond in rough. “Oh baby” and “emotional haircut” are pretty good. The rest just doesn’t do it for me. It’s all arranged very well and sounds nice. James Murphy is typically a god-tier track builder. But everything save HDYS doesn’t hit the highs of any of his previous work. Way too long, too many bland sections. Feels like a really sanitized version of all of his punk and electronic influences. Nevertheless, I found myself grooving to a few of these tunes, and the musicianship is undeniable.

There are interesting ideas and good beats hidden here, but they’re stretched out and repeated until they’re nonsense. The plot is lost.

Imagine making whole big series of statements that you're going to retire and put your band on ice forever ......and then you come back with this weaksauce shit. LCD Soundsystem will always be more fun as a trend than it ever will be as music.

I like a bunch of their songs from other albums, but this one is kind of boring.

Not sure how 2 albums from these guys made the 1001 list but I didn't get either one. They are just not for me.

Just couldn't get into it. It was there in the background by never really got me to pay attention to it.

Très émotif et posta-apocalyptique comme ressenti. Se prennent un peu trop au sérieux. Mise en scène dramatique. Un fond U2.

Better than I'd assumed based on my meh impression of the dude who is behind the band, sort of glossed over the back half.

favourite song: emotional haircut least favourite song: how do you sleep rubbish album

Totalmente aburrido. Le pongo 2 estrellas porque 1 lo reservo para los malos de verdad.

Sounded like the same song over and over again. If this had been a putely instrumental album, I may listen to it on occasion for the vibe, but the singing kills it for me. Would not recommend to a friend.

just tällästä MILLENIAALi...PASKAA... ollaan niin liibalaaba erillaisia kun LAULETAAN LAISKASTI JA VITTU VÄHÄN PISTETÄÄN SYNTTHI SIIHEN MUTTA KUN SITÄ EI OSATA KÄYTTÄÄ KUIN ESIMERKIKSI KULT BÄNDISSÄ..... kaksi kautta viisi tulisi YKKÖSTÄ SILIMÄÄN jos ei alussa olisi muutama hyvä biisi ennen kuin alkoi VITUTTAA TÄMÄ .... näin yhden kommentin meni näin: Who wants to go roller skating while drinking vodka from a water bottle ? VITTU TURPA KIIINNI VITTTU TÄÄ ON JUST TÄTÄ MILLENIAALI JUST TÄLLÄSTÄ KUN UKKOMETSO SOI NIIN NÄMÄ LUULEE TEKEVÄNSÄ JOTAI... paras biisi oli i used to

Reallz did not like the album, it has some un/heard sonorities and floatz melodies but it has also some weird use of aggressive sounds and the songs really hard longind. I found mzself bored while listening to the album. RIp

I did not enjoy the listening too much but I like some songs and the electronic vibe. I don't feel this is a great album but can good to add few songs in some Playlist and all. I will grade 2.5/5 as it is very median in most of the ways

Screechy guitars and 80's synth electronica music. Should be my thing. Wasn't super excited. Stand out tracks: Tonight.

Pobre pobre pobre. Pobres oídos

Tonite and call the Police (which sounds a bit like the killers) save the album from one star; the rest is really not for me.

i didn’t hate it but this kind of music is usually a miss for me, it was just too techy if that makes sense and i did not love it. i didn’t hate it and i can understand why people might like it but just not for me.

New wave. Largo, pesado y aburrido.

Talking Heads album 40 years later, but less entertaining and not as original anymore? Yes, it is. I was wondering which albums from recent years would be chosen for this list. How good an album has to be, to put it on a list of Greatest of All Time just couple years after releasing? Well, the apparent answer is simple - not really good. I don't see any unique qualities in this album, nor anything transcendental, that leaves you with your mouth wide open. It's just another record with Talking Heads like beats, using a lot of electronic sounds and adding some indie rock in the mix. I don't won't to sound too negative for no reason, but the only single from the album, 'tonite', was actually the most boring song on american dream. Snappy, lively beat on drums and bass, some samples on top of it and a monotonous vocal, altogether very slowly cranking the atmosphere up and never releasing, just resetting. It's not a recipe for my liking, but in my opinion the execution is also lacking. Not the best choice on this list to represent the latest decade in music.

first time listening to lcd soundsystem some songs can be dissonant, noisy, and kinda annoying eg. other voices not a fan of the vocal style on the album, and it seems like the album as a whole is not really my taste standout tracks: oh baby, great opener, love the arpeggiated synths and the last quarter of the song especially; american dream, title track of the album, enjoyed the vocals on this track.

Alternative dance music that I cannot see myself dancing to.

Didn’t rock with it

Tedious
