Enjoyable album from someone I had never heard of before! Very pleasantly surprised and may listen to it again!!
I just can't get past the voice. There is good music underneath just hard to focus on anything but the voice.
Love me some Bowie always!
Not my preferred genre but nonetheless an enjoyable album!
This album came out white I was in high school so there is definitely some nostalgia listening to it. Not the kind of music I'd listen to all the time but i enjoyed it today!
Could not finish. Tried my best. Just not my jam.
Great voice!
I forgot how good this album was!
Interesting music that I had never heard of but kept me listening.
Not a huge Dylan fan but up can't deny his talent with this album!
Not bad but could have gone my whole life without listening to it.
Not bad but I'm much too old for this type of music.
Sounds like my childhood in the 80's!
Not my favorite album but automatically gets 5 due to it's historical value.
This generation of music I just don't connect with but it is a solid album and I can see why some like it.
He's such a natural musician. Even though some of the elements are overdone when listened with today's ear, it does not detract from the greatness of this album.
Boy, I sure liked this album as a child but doesn't hold up at much as I would have liked. Would be interesting to hear an updated non-80's version.
I've been waiting for this album to pop up and am very pleased it happened so early! There is no question that this album is 5/5 and I'm sure I won't say anything that hasn't been said about it before. Sir Duke is 1 of the best songs ever. It sounds as fresh today as I'm sure it did when it was released. Love's In Need Of Love is a great way to start, a sign of things to come. Stevie's voice is at his best in Village Ghetto Land and accentuated with the strings arrangement. Sir Duke into I Wish is so phenomenal, probably the best 2 song set ever recorded! Only to be followed by Knocks Me Off My Feet! Those 3 songs by themselves is enough to garner 5/5! And then the album keeps going!! Pastime Paradise is strong and of course was famously sampled by Coolio (RIP). Isn't She Lovely is another example of musical perfection. If It's Magic is another great vessel for Stevie's voice and it's simplicity is a nice contrast between more complex arrangements and leads perfectly to As! This is the back end anchor of the album leading to Another Star which is another example of the albums musical diversity. Saturn is definitely underrated and Ebony Eyes is infectiously catchy. While I don't love every song on the album, there are so many good ones that after finishing I went ahead and listened a second time. This really is 1 of the best albums of all time and I say that even though it is not my preferred genre. The complexity of the arrangements, diversity of instruments and musical styles, and Stevie's tremendous vocals continue to hold up even a half century later!!
Sounds like the rural county fairs from my youth. 3.5 stars for nostalgia and the top of the record.
Love Waterloo, Sunday!
Kind of all over the place but not unenjoyable.
Pleasant surprise! Knew the name but otherwise Brian Eno was a gap in my musical knowledge. I missed listening to this album the day it came to me and put off doing a makeup listen because I thought I wouldn't like it. But I was wrong! King's lead hat is vaguely familiar but otherwise all songs were new to me. The vibe on the album shifts from beginning to end but I enjoyed the transition. Favorite song was By This River. Simple but the melody sticks with you.
Didn't realize I would like this so much! A pleasant surprise!!
Wish I could give this 3.5. Not quite a 4 but definitely more then a 3. What a voice she has!
Like this very much, more than I would have thought!
Gets a4 just for Summertime! Fantastic song!!
Wish I was alive when this album was released to hear it fresh! Great album, my fav is Long As I Can See the Light.
Victoria is such an earworm, I love it!
Nice cover of just like heaven.
What a voice!
DNF
Loved this album when I was in middle school!
Loved this album in high school! She has such a great voice, it's a pleasure to listen to it.
CCR is always great!
My grandparents loved Marty! Me not so much although El Paso will definitely stay in your head for a long time after listening.
Boring
So hard to rate this album. I was a teen when it first came out and it was a big fixture of my life for awhile. The talent and quality is still evident all these years later. And yet it is terrible and awful at the same time. I ended on 5 stars simply because of Stan. Very few songs have the capacity to not only tell a story but tell a story that can create a giant emotional response in a span of only a few minutes.
Such a good album. I know a lot of people think it's overrated but I disagree. Sets a good vibe for the entire duration of the album. Every song holds up well. Definitely 5 stars!
Such a constant album from my childhood!
4.5. I've never listened to the whole album and there's some great tracks I had never heard!
Never heard of them but it was an interesting album that will require a second listen
I prefer Quality Control but I love their sound!
Surprise find! Too bad it's not on Spotify and only on YouTube.
Way better than I thought but still not my genre
Meh
Wow, pleasant surprise!
This was hands down over of my favorite albums as a 90's teen! Haven't listened to it in at least 20 years but still knew all the words. Album still holds up for the most part, it's amazing to consider how young she was!
Wow, this album was everywhere! I don't love all the songs but considering the impact it had still a solid 4.
Wow, this was great. The kind of surprise documentary that keeps me going.
Not my favorite album of theirs but still worthy of 5 stars!
Too long
