Any band that brings back the blues element is okay with me.
I could only give this three stars because half of the songs were only two stars but half of the album consisted of four star songs. They should have cut this album in half. To stand out for me was Half Light 1 and 2
This album is fire. Every track on here rocks. Especially Killing In the Name Of. I'm 71 years old and I would listen to these guys for the same reason I listen to led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath or Deep Purple. Killer guitar work. The guitar is the best thing about these guys.
Every song on here is amazing. Standouts are Golden Years and Station to Station
Ugh. I hope I never have to listen to this again.
What would Led Zeppelin or AC/DC sound like if you took the blues element completely out of their music? They would probably sound a lot like this. Just because you sing loud does not mean you are singing with passion. Every song sounds the same.
Punk rock meets New Wave. The guitar playing especially is a standout.
Too many songs sound the same. That electronic drum beat gets old after a while.
This album perfectly showcases the two sides of Neil Young. On the acoustic side, the title track and Pocahontas stand out. The electric side is the heart of the album. The standouts are the electric version of the title track, Powderfinger and Welfare Mothers. I can hear where grunge came from because the guitars throughout the electric side are muddy and dirty, just how I like them.
One of the greatest debut albums ever. Every track on here is absolutely fire. I give it a 6 out of five.
Public enemy number one to anybody with good music taste. This isn't music. At best, it's street poetry put to a beat.
In my opinion, there are only a handful of really talented punk rock bands and these guys are not one of them. They sound like a Saturday Night Live parody of the Sex Pistols, which are one of the great ones. Give me The Clash or the Ramones or the Patty Smith Group any day. The only good thing about this band that I could hear is the fact that they can play their instruments. But the singer sounds like Johnny Rotten on a bad day.
I wasn't going to listen to this album because I have always avoided kiss but I wanted to see if listening would change my mind. It did not. If anything, I will put this on the 1001 albums you should avoid at all costs. These guys make the most boring, generic rock and roll that I have ever heard. Just goes to show that because you rap s*** up in it pretty package still stinks.
I was all prepared to give this only one star because every song was kind of boring. And then I got to the last four tracks. All four of them were fire and I am obligated to add two more stars.
Nick Cave in somebody I was introduced to this music through the Peaky Blinders TV show. I didn't think I could acquire any new bands that I liked but the minute I heard them I knew they were fantastic. This is the second time I've listened to this album and every song on it is a banger. Abattoir blues is my favorite
Bo Diddley meets psychedelia. The whole album is a banger.
What can I say? This is a funk masterpiece from beginning to end. Not as optimistic as his previous work but essential nonetheless. Standouts are family Affair, Thank You For Talking To Me Africa and Runnin' Away.
I have always liked Beck and this album does not change my mind. It's not his best but it's definitely worth four stars.
These ladies are a lot of fun. Songs are five stars and some songs are four stars but every song is a banger
Never heard these guys before but they're pretty good. Mixing punk with new wave and it works.
A soulful debut from Tracy Chapman. She combines r&b with folk music and every song on here is a banger
I was all prepared to not like these guys but by third song they had totally won me over. I don't know if any other album sounds like this what if they do, they have my vote. Pop music for smart people, and you can dance too!!!
This is not music, it's cRap.
I was prepared not to like this but I was pleasantly surprised. This is an album you must listen to with headphones.
Not as good as there earlier stuff but still an excellent album. Four stars
Stones at their best. Raw and real. Every song is a banger.
I never did like Bebop jazz. The kind of jazz I like has a beat to it and you can dance to it. I always thought this kind of jazz was akin to musical masturbation. I know it influenced a lot of people and it's a classic. But I can't give it more than three stars.
A five-star debut from Mr Prine. Several standouts, including Angel From Montgomery, Hello In There and Sam Stone. He paints a picture with every song. Not a bad song on this album.
The first song, Running Up the Hill, is a five-star song. Kate Bush is very talented and a very good singer but just not my cup of tea. The rest of the songs I only gave a three.
Even though I like Nirvana and I had heard a couple Soundgarden songs that I like before, one of them being Black Hole Sun, I really wasn't into grunge. That may have to change because after listening to this album I need to hear more. Five stars from start to finish. These guys know how to rock. Chris Cornell is an excellent singer. R.I.P.
Sorry, cRap is not my thing.
One of Bob Dylan's greatest albums. A perfect five out of five from start to finish. Favorite songs are Tangled Up In Blue, Jack of Hearts, and Idiot Wind.
Not my thing. One word you describe it. Boring.
I just don't get it. I found these songs extremely boring.
I love Frank Zappa who produced this album but this guy is unlistenable.
Rock without the passion, hooks or melody.
Sorry, but this is not fit my definition of music.
I had heard of these guys but I have never listened to them until now. It was a pleasant surprise. Excellent production, all the songs are original and none of them sound alike. A perfect combination of electronica, alternative and just good old rock and roll.
The kinks are right up there with the who as far as I'm concerned. One of the Great British bands of all time. This album is proof. Every song on here is well crafted and well written. Four and a half Stars but I will give it five because four is too low.
Easily the best Beatles solo album out of all of them. George finally got the airplay that he deserved. It's a shame The Beatles had to break up in order for that to happen. Not a bad song on here. The only fly is the last two sides but I still give it five stars.
Her voice is very unique and very soulful. Down to Zero and Love and Affection are my favorites. Definitely at least four stars
Come and worship at the altar of Soul with the Reverend Al Green. Memphis Soul at its best. Mr Green is definitely in the top five soul singers of all time. This album is five star from start to finish. Me embodiment of music with feeling.
Funk at its best. Nile Rogers is one of the best bass players around. Every song jumps off the speakers and makes you grab your dancing shoes.
My favorite Beatle at his rawest. You can almost trip over the emotion. I just listened to this album in 2025 and it's still hits home just like it did when it came out.
Why this group was not more popular in the states than they were is a mystery to me. The rhythm section in this band is amazing. Futuristic with its roots in rock and roll. Every song is a banger. R.I.P. Mark Bolan
I had heard of these guys but I had never listened to anything they recorded. I'm a 60s and 70s guy so I don't know much about the 90s. All I know is this album was a banger. I didn't look forward to listening to an album this long but every song was engaging. A lot of straight-out rockers on this album, even though they do a few other genres. I still like the sixties and seventies better but I've been finding out that they were still making good music in the 90s.
Curtis Mayfield is one of the greatest singers and songwriters of all time and this album proves it. Soul and funk at its best. Music with a message.
I give this album 10 stars out of five. CCR is the epitome of American rock and roll. Every song on this album is a certified banger. And John Fogerty sounds just as good live as he does in the studio.
Willie Nelson, other than George Jones, has the most expressive voice in all of country music and one of the most expressive in any genre. With what would seem like little effort at all, movies voice oozes soul. All of these classic songs get the Willie Nelson treatment and they become better for it.
A lot of people are not going to get this and I understand that. They didn't appreciate Picasso until after he died. Great artists are often like that. Hands down, Brian Wilson is in the top three songwriters of the last two centuries. This is the album there's would have gave Sergeant Pepper a run for the money. He has perfected everything he ever wanted the Beach Boys to be into this one album. Granted, The Beach Boys are not on this album but he originally crafted the music for them. In the top 10 albums of the last 100 years.
I actually expected to like this more than I did. I guess memory is fonder the older it is. Upon re-listening, I find that she has a good voice, although it does get on your nerves after a few songs. I'll give it three stars but I can't do any more than that. It really is like being in a Starbucks.
I guess you would call this trip hop? Slightly better than it's dirty cousin, hip Hop. It might make some good background music if I was tripping but if I was going to seriously do some more psychedelics and I would probably just put on electric ladyland. This was not like my playlist. Not offensive but not exciting either.
One of my favorite English groups from the 70s. My younger brother got me into this album. Had never heard of Supertramp before. At least five of the eight songs of bangers which way to the four star. But this album is essential. Even me songs that weren't dangerous and pretty good songs. My favorites are Bloody Well Right and Dreamer
I'm not a big fan of jazz instrumentals but I am a huge fan of jazz vocals. Sarah Vaughn rates right up there with Satchmo, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett. Her vocal chops shine on this album. Definitely five stars
There's nothing wrong with these guys per say. All the songs that catchy, they're harmonies are good but I don't hear any soul in this at all. They're not really singing with feeling, they're just concentrating on the harmonies. But if I want to listen to really good harmonies, I put on some Simon and Garfunkel. I give this three out of five
As far as music goes, rap sucks. Yes, he might be a good lyricist but this should be in the beat poetry category, not the music category.
Okay, my problem is not with the excellent musicianship or Freddy's multi-octave voice. My problem is the same problem I've had with Queen off and on. Many of their songs are forgettable and overblown. I can't believe this album was included on this website but not A Day At The Races, which to me is a much better album. In my opinion Queen didn't really become of age until A Night At The Opera. After having listened to it I cannot remember a single song.
If English psychedelic folk was my thing, I would probably give this five stars. But it's not my thing so I'm only giving it three stars, in recognition of their talent.
This music all sounds the same.
Big Star is one of those great bands that just had bad luck and missed opportunity. They should have been huge. That being said, this, the third album is not as good as their first two. But it's still better than most of the material that was being released at the time. The songs are tight and well written.
What can you say about David Bowie. The man can bend time and space with his voice. Every song on here is a banger. Standouts are Changes, Life on Mars and the Bellway Brothers.
First of all, I'm going to start by saying that Elvis did not appropriate black culture anymore than Charlie Pride appropriate white culture. If we all thought like that, then I guess the Righteous Brothers should have stuck with singing Doris Day covers. Anyway this album is an amazing debut by an amazing artist. He grew up listening to r&b and that's what he wanted to sing. Charlie Pride grew up listening to country and western and that's what he's sang. This album is the shot heard round the world. Rock and Roll did not originate with Elvis but he brought it to fruition.
I don't get it. Every single song on here literally has the same drum beat. Listening to this album was like going to a job you hate. You feel like you have to do a good job but it's not a pleasant feeling. At one point I stepped outside for about 30 seconds and when I came back in I thought it was still the same song. But no, it had gone on to the next song. That pretty much sums up the entire album.
This is supposed to be a mixture of east Indian and rock and roll music. But the only song that fits that category is their cover of Jumping Jack Flash. I would have loved to have heard more rock and roll covers. But, you cannot deny the talent of the musicians on this album. It's just not my thing.
Steely Dan never released a bad album during their entire career. While this one is not quite as good as their debut album, it still has some outstanding songs on it. I wanted to give it four and a half but I will give it five because four is too low
One of the best debut albums ever. None of their other albums even came close.
I have heard some songs by Morrissey that I cannot remember the names to. What stood out in those songs that does not stand out here, was the excellent guitar playing. He has changed guitar players for this album and it shows. Other than that, I really am not a fan of the droning kind of shoegaze music that this sounds like
I've been interested in this guy since I heard him sing Suzanne. He is one of the better songwriters out there. That said, this album is pretty good. Let's Take Manhattan, and There Is No Cure For Love are two of my favorites.
One of the few bands / artists that I have liked in the past 20 years
I was always intrigued by these guys but I never really sat down and listened to an entire album. This album is awesome. I love their whole guitar "wall of sound".
Count me as one of the ones you don't get it. She has a pleasant voice. She might even make a good rock and roll singer but this stuff is just boring.
I had only known one song of this album. I had heard they're single Closer and I was impressed. So when this album came my way to review I was looking forward to it and I was not disappointed. Of course I had heard of their version of Hurt but I had never actually listened to it. I can see why JC liked it. Every song on here is a banger but you have to listen to it with headphones or you will miss the nuance in the music.
Straight outta Compton and right into the trash bin.
Boring and repetitive. Give me some real female singers like Aretha or Linda or Janis. If she hadn't been wearing her bra on the outside, we never would have heard of her. Flash over substance.
This guy can sing. His version of Hallelujah and the song So Real are my favorites. Gone too soon.
I'm not a big jazz fan but I like this kind of jazz more than the modern jazz. My favorite is Louis Armstrong but I can appreciate Ellington. That said, I don't think this album is five star. I would rather give it three and a half but I will go for four because I think three is too low.
I was a fan of Moby grape but this is just a bunch of mumbling and meandering. I suppose they might be good songs if song by somebody else. In fact I heard there was a tribute album. Maybe I need to listen to that but this I don't get.
