“Somebody to Love” is an obvious standout. “Today” and “Coming back to me” are the standout tracks for someone new to the album.
1st album on my journey. I had hoped for more from the album but it was hit and miss.
A mediocre album by Radiohead. “go to sleep” and “There there” being the only great songs. Although “2+2=5” is catchy
Gotta say I hated it far less than I expected to. I’m not a huge fan of early prog, but “Limelight”, “YYZ” and even the longwinded “The Camera Eye” had me tapping my hands on the desk more than other albums I’d listened to on here.
Shame it opens with “Tom Saywer” I do not understand the fascination with that song
Never cared for Metallica before, I liked a few hits.
But this album is amazing. A few lulls but pretty great overall.
Gotta be honest, I was expecting more. The best song for me is the opening track “Finest Worksong” while the obvious hits “end of the world” and “the one I love” build up the latter half, the first half is lacking something to keep me interested for long. It’s good but forgettable
It’s not a bad albums, all songs are solid; I’d even say the biggest hit, “golden years” is my least favourite.
But the first song, “Station to Station” is my favourite although I feel like it has been artificially extended to 1/3 the album’s runtime just to fill space.
I’ve listened to EPs longer than this LP
To start, I was never an Oasis fan, but this album makes a great singalong with catchy hooks.
But Everytime a song starts it sounds like it could be almost any other song on the album.
While I knew 90% of the album already, I found that the (new to me) “Hello” and “Hey now” had me putting on my best nasal singing voice more than the rest.
I started off without anything to really say about it. Nothing stood out through my first listen except the singles i knew.
After 3 or 4 listens I get it. The whole album is a cohesive collection of synth pop and rock that will definitely add to my playlists.
Standouts are “Wrap it up,” “Somebody Told Me” and of course, “Sweet Dreams”
I always loved Jump but never got into Van Halen. This album didn’t help me
This is the first album I found a slog to listen to. “I’ll wait” and “Jump” are good. The rest are forgettable except “Top Jimmy” which is just bad.
This is the epitome of Dad Rock. Something that they will tell their kids is amazing but really, only white men in their late 50s or 60s like.
I’m not sure if I should give it a 1 star or a 2 star for “Jump” alone
“The Girl from Ipanema” is good but that may be from familiarity.
The album isn’t bad, but I just felt nothing from it. I thought I’d have enjoyed it and found it relaxing. The brass was mixed too closely to the front and was startling at times.
I didn’t get it and that’s probably on me
At the start, I dreaded the album. A man with a guitar and nothing else sounds like hell.
I was pleasantly surprised. I don’t love the album but it has more emotion than I expected.
This is not my kind of music but I didn’t struggle to get through it like I did with other albums. I won’t listen to it again but I’m glad I heard it.
I honestly thought I’d like this. I didn’t. Technically great but monotonous for me.
All along the watchtower though. That’s great
This album is worth it for Seven Days Too Long and Geno alone. The rest is ok
I can’t help but feel that you had to be there at the time of release to love this. Everything sounds the same to my ears
Favourites: Spanish Bombs, lost in the supermarket.
I didn’t know anything about the band although I’d heard Tina Turner’s cover of Proud Mary.
For songs I don’t know, in a time I didn’t live, it seems to capture the zeitgeist of the era.
My only gripe is the album is only 34 mins or so.
Favourite: Graveyard Train.
Worst: Good Golly Miss Molly (but I still like it)
While listening to the album I was reading user reviews. Some of them are
Harsh af.
The album isn’t perfect, and I can probably choose hundreds of albums to add to the album list before this one, but it’s not bad per-sé.
The rock/pop/rave fusion isn’t my go-to choice for music but this album highlights the 90s music scene in the UK more than I’ve found in a long time. Electronic & pop-rock were at their commercial heights at this time.
I felt nostalgic through most of these songs even though I’ve never heard most of it.
There’s a lot of fluff in this but songs like Hear Me O My People made me feel like I was playing Wipeout on the PS1 & Progen took me back to underage drinking at my friend’s house.
If someone starts playing this album, I’m not going to moan, but I probably won’t go looking for it.
Best: Hyperral, Hear Me O My People
Worst: Possible Worlds
It’s not an album I love but I ended liking a couple from it;
Best; Breathe & Us and Them
Worst: on the run & the great gig in the sky
I know I’m the odd one out; I honestly don’t understand why it’s loved
The album starts off ok, but Starman was right where it needed to be to keep momentum going.
Came in knowing nothing about this band. The opening track made me think I want going to like it due to strained singing.
So at the start, I was not actively listening until “ten cent pistol” came on & that when I got it. I got the blues influence and now dig the vocals
Not at all what I expected. I enjoyed it, but the song s didn’t feel to meld together into a cohesive album for me.
“ Student Demonstration Time”, “Long Promised Road” and “‘til I die” are the best song on this album.
Highway to Hell is the best song on the albums, which is weird because it all sounds the same
It was a slow burn but I listened to it over and over. I was absolutely shocked at how much I got into it and the time passed quickly.
Best songs were “Got my Mojo Working” and”I feel so good”
Only issue I have with the album is the short runtime; Only 32 mins
Am I playing Toejam & Earl or am I watching an episode of Sesame Street?
I thought I’d like it because of how similar it is to the music I love, but it just goes on and on. I think I heard a seagull in there somewhere.
I should like this, but I didn’t and I wanted to.
I can see why Horn to Run was the title track. It’s the best one. The rest aren’t bad but very similar. I couldn’t differentiate the rest except the first track “Thunder Road” which is pretty good
Looking at the track listing I didn’t recognise any of the track titles but turns out I knew about half the songs here.
That made it easier to get through because the songs I didn’t know were a slog to get through.
Even the songs I knew weren’t that catchy and were a bit boring
I listened to it. I felt nothing positive or negative. I listened 3 times to the whole album and each time it was like listening to it for the first time and each time I was unmoved.
If I ever listen to the album again it will be like listening to it for the first time ever. Honestly have no idea how it’s considered a top 1000 albums
If you lined every album ever created in order of interesting-ness, this would be right in the fucking middle.
It was ok, the songles being the highlights of the album.
I don’t get it. If this was on in the background I wouldn’t even notice it
I usually like music that’s “a bit much” and will listen to industrial metal or thrash to held drown out thoughts if I need to focus.
There are so many samples that take you out of the music and overload your senses that I got a headache from listening to this. If it was toned down by even a small amount, I would have probably given this a 5
I like later Eminem albums but this album sounds like it’s been written by a 13yr old edgelord
Probably the best beach boys album I’ve heard so far. I won’t go back to listen to it again without a real reason but I can see how this captured the zeitgeist of when it was written and the sound paints a wonderful picture
I liked it more than I expected. That said, I knew way more if it than I thought k would. Obviously the hits are the best songs on the album.
Adele’s cover of lovesong may be my favourite version
I loved the music and gen the harmonica was light or not there. I also think I’d prefer a different singer to Bob Dylan.
I can see the talent but it isn’t for me. I wish it was
Everytime I get into a song it ends. I know it was normal then but a 2 min track just isn’t enough anymore.
I actually loved it though
These are annoying and energetic live versions of the songs you kind of know from listening to radio 2 for a few years.
Very tame for Iron Maiden and none of the future bangers they’re known for.
I likes it but kept waiting for the songs to kick in
I can see why people like it, but other than Stairway, it’s largely forgettable.
Creedence did it better
I know yes have some great songs, but just not on this album
I knew tainted love and that’s it.
Say Hello, Wave Goodbye and Bedsitter are also great but the icing on the top? Sex Dwarf. What a masterpiece
I think it’s good, it’s just not for me. It’s so mellow and that’s just not who I am.
I kinda prefer this version of No Woman No Cry
It was ok, but I know he has much better work available
Perfect from start to finish
Came in only knowing Glory Box and Sour Times but Roads. Roads is amazing
RHCP have a long list of amazing songs. Just a shame none of them are on this album.
Like dark side of the moon, there are some great moments like “]Wish you were here” and the parts of “shine on you crazy diamond” where they’re not just jamming. Unfortunately for me most of the album feels like filler
Unmistakenly Steely Dan. That’s neither good nor bad, but the only standout here is Peg. And even then, I prefer the Nerina Pallot cover.
Never really listened to much of the Doors and tried hard to like this.
I just couldn’t get into any of it, nothing stuck, nothing stood out
I’ve never been transported back to the 90s so easily. 2001 is better though
The album was better than I expected but “Changes” — Man, that’s a fucking song.
Most of the album is bland trip hop which trudges along a little too slowly.
Then Mutual Slump comes along to wake you up.
Then the record falls into the same routine again.
It’s not bad, but apart from mutual slump, nothing is there to make you want more
Starts off amazing then awful songs like girls and slow ride and it picks up again with fight for your right and no sleep til Brooklyn.
I was so close to loving this but there’s too much filler
Every single song is great in its own right. I knew about half from general radio play and Mister Man is a banger that should have been released.
I’ve heard of Liz Phair before but never heard her stuff.
I hated it at first, ready to move on and give it a 2. I have it another listen while on a walk and I got it.
I can hear the influence it had on Sheryl Crow’s best album (the self-titled one)
This album could have been half the length and been better.
It’s a good album. I doubt I’ll replay it much. The best song was the first on the album, “When I get to the Border”
Made a bad day feel worse
I knew most of this album before coming in to this, with Ready or Not being a personal favourite.
Forgot how good fu-gee-la was. But that doesn’t rescue the album. Sometimes the lyrics are amazing while other times I’m confused at what the fuck I’m listening to.
I honestly thought I liked the album more than I did, but I’ve drifted away from listening to this kind of music since I was a teenager.
Also the skit at the end of The Beast. Oof
I came in thinking I was gonna give it a 1 - I hated Beck.
Turns out I just hate Loser and Devils Haircut
I honestly don’t know if I hate this album or if I like it. There’s not a song that stands out and I dislike listening to it, but it’s not bad?
I might revisit this in the future
I’ll be honest, I enjoyed this a lot but it sounded like 1 or 2 songs but extended.
The singles were the best on the album and the rest were good but didn’t have the hooks
I only knew Dirty Old Town on this but that might be my least favourite song on the whole album.
Starting off with the banger “ The Sick Bed of Cúchulainn” and ending on the depressing “And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda” is a rollercoaster.
It’s well made but not interesting enough
Wasn’t expecting to like it, but every song was great
Combines the most boring parts of Blur, Supergrass and Mansun into a whole pile of mediocrity
Mercifully this is a short album.
Other than Oo You and Maybe I’m Amazed, it’s forgettable and boring.
It feels minimum effort with no real depth.
First few tracks were good, the rest bled into one
The album is front heavy with great songs, Gasoline Dreams, Ms Jackson & So Fresh, So Clean but other than BOB, the rest of the album feels like a parody of the great songs
If this was re-recorded with someone who could sing, this album would be phenomenal
Maybe the best Britpop album?
Contains one of the best tracks of all time; “God only Knows”
It would get a 3 just for that. The rest of the songs are nice and all. I can see why it’s peoples’ favourite album but it’s too restricted to say it’s perfect.
It’s good but it needed to pick up the pace.
I can imagine this being good at the time, but this is mostly (funky) filler.
Awkward at times blasting a certain song at work
Killer queen good. Quite like Flick of the wrist but I don’t know why it’s here
Two or three good song but much longer than it needed to be
One of the book’s collaborators was taking bribes here or seeing what they could get away with.
Dear FBI: if I’m ever suspected of terrorism charges, take me to gutanamo and play me this. I’ll tell you everything I know before the album finishes
Songs like the Lure of Orpheus are the reason I don’t love this album. It throws the brakes on as it gets good.
It could have been an amazing 5* albums if the filler was removed
5/5 for the banshees.
2/5 for Siouxsie Sioux singing like a banshee.
Oof.
Want a whole album that sounds like Elected? This is the one.
I’ve heard this before from the challenge but somehow i like it less than before.
Somebody to Love is a banger. The rest are not.
Sorry ain’t enough is a great track and I’ve added that to my rotation. I don’t feel like there’s enough in each of the other tracks to make it stand out. The subject of the music is also something I don’t naturally relate to, however much I agree with the words
2 or 3 songs are superb, but the weird falsetto near the middle of the album is just bizarre
Starting an album with Young Americans is risky because it’s only downhill from there. The Beatles cover Across the Universe is horrendous but the album is saved with Fame
The fuck even is this? Not sure but I liked a couple of tracks
Less guitar, more Joplin pls
Music - 5
Vocals - 1
Honestly makes me think that even I could sing for the band and improve this
A bit too samey but the final song is great
Very front heavy. First half? Perfect. Second half? A few good bits
Good blues, well made.
I probably won’t revisit it
Honestly can’t believe I’ve missed out on this. I knew hallelujah and that was it. I expected more like that and a boring album but holy shit.
I honestly don’t know who this is aimed at? People who need music for 90s Amiga games?
It’s a good album but it’s basically a The Jam album and nothing to stray away from that formula. Too samey
They think they’re the Beatles but they’re not. A good selection of songs but a bit bland
Way better than I expected. Adding this to my listen again pile
The title track makes me feel nostalgic for a time I never knew.
I’m not sure why the decided to go for the blues. Some of the album works well with Turd on the Run and Sweet Virginia, but I wasn’t feeling half of the album.
Maybe because I wasn’t expect such a blues-heavy influence?
Other metallic albums are so much better. This is monotonous
Some great songs when harmonica stays locked away
Kinky national is interesting and reminiscent of Nine Inch nail’s Pretty Hate Machine demos.
It’s also cool’s to hear some of Frank Klepacki‘s influence for the C&C soundtracks, but I found this a slog to get through
Gotta look for more of her music
Nowhere near as good and catchy as nevermind but that was the plan.
A few songs sound similar to bleach and nevermind.
The second star is for heart shaped box
Probably the first album I ever loved and has no filler. Every song is a banger including All by Myself.
Stick this on a date night.
Not for me for every day listening but yeah I could see this being great if I was high af
The second song on the album is good but not good enough for me to check what it’s called
So much better than I expected
Never heard of the band but this is great
Love the instrumentals but find myself put off by the vocals
This is the sort of music your creepy uncle listens to.
Quagmire would listen to this.
It’s Stevie Fuckin’ Wonder
At times I got it, then the next song came on and I didn’t know what the fuck was going on
Honestly thought I’d love it but other than the titular song, glory days and dancing in the dark, it was largely boring
I like it but I don’t love it.
Old man party vibes and I’m an old man
Starts off amazing, the first few songs are great.
After that it’s a little underwhelming.
I’m totally ignoring the fact the guy I a douche
Crown of love and Wake up are great songs.
Another band let down by annoying af vocals
I loved The Wild Side of Life, but the rest was too similar to each other
Strong album. Vocals are shakey but it works here.
I could see this being amazing live but largely not for me
The perfect album from start to finish (but only if you skip “Take Me Down”)
Not sure why I had to listen to this before I died. This is the most 3/5 you could possibly get.
Not offensive, not enjoyable, just background music for a student film.
Rendezvous with Anus.
What else is there to say?
Music 5/5
Lyrics- make Placebo lyrics sound intellectual. 1/5
Not as bad as I was expecting.
It’s a bit much for a whole album, but I would listen to the odd song again
If it wasn’t for Watching the Detectives, there’s no way this would have been even noticed by music listeners.
The fact it’s his first album automatically makes it better than the others I’ve heard here. Mainly because all later albums are just a copy/paste of this one
It’s not bad, but I didn’t like it
Lush 3-1 is amazing. The rest are so so or worse.
Just straight up fucking amazing
Pretentious without the music to suit
The first track is trash, the rest of the album is pretty good. Unfortunately,, the first track is approx 50% of the album play time
Took me days to get through. It’s not bad, but it’s just so 80s in the worst possible ways
This was made better with the weird, hour-long, AI-made financial advice stuck in the middle of the YouTube playlist
I loved and hated this album all at once. Scratch that - the last song sounds like someone jumping between awful radio stations
Not one to listen to at work - not NSFW, but just a lot of side-eyes and “what the fuck is this?”
This album is music’s equivalent of picking up someone else’s dog’s cold dog shit on a spring morning.
With so many good metal albums out there, why choose a grindcore album that only offers headaches? I can only imagine the authors said “ha, make ‘em listen to this shit” before sending the copy in to the editor they hated.
I don’t know if I love this because yesterday was Scum by Napalm Death or because it’s an amazing album (it’s option 2)
Wasn’t expecting to like it but it’s phenomenal
When listening to this, I just picture a bunch of youths egging a house and running away thinking they’re the height of cool
This endeavour to listen to all the albums has taught me one thing; I’m not a huge Bowie fan.
I know that’s on me. None of the songs stood out as bad or goo. And I don’t love his voice on the album.
If you like songs about gangbangs and gonnorrhea, go for it. I was ready to just give it 1* and move on but the last song The Last of the Teenage Idols is pretty good
