Solid decent grunge. Probably a little better than you'd expect from that description though.
Enjoyed listening though more of a history lesson than something I'd put on. Would have been so dope to go to a show like this.
This was a real roller coaster for me. Had honestly never heard of the band and thought it was gonna be some outlaw country. Then was like oh are they really just putting a one hit wonder on here cuz its such a big song? Then I kind of started liking it, then got annoyed by the dudes voice, then got nostalgic for back in the day getting into ska music, then come on eileen finally came on and really rounded out the whole experience. Anyway, probz would listen to this again at some point which is more than I could say of the others we've done so far.
OK so when bohemian rhapsody came out I did a deep dive into Queen and was somewhat let down. I mean bar was high, but I figured given the fact that they have like 15-20 songs that are unbelievably awesome, their discography must be generally solid with many hidden gems in there. But mostly I realized the greatest hits are all you need, and even though none of their albums are bad, a few are overall good, there's a pretty big gap between their best and not-so-great works. So I give 3 stars, and thats kind of unfair because if they didn't have so many other amazing songs I might have enjoyed this one more but something about bright lights and dark shadows?
Loved the first four tracks! Then it turned kind of soundscapey which felt unnecessary. Will probz do a lil more checking out of this band.
Decent album! Fine to listen to, probs don’t need to go too much deeper though.
Dope album! If they had partial stars this would be short of five but feeling generous.
Liked these guys! Probz didn’t need a full album of it though. Will check out the other tracks per Sean’s input. But we rating the album not the band or the songs.
This album is so good. Such a vibe. I mostly know Tribe from the anthology, but this might as well be a greatest hits. Plus the flow from start to finish and the lil sample interludes added to the feel of it being an album not just songs. RIP Joe C.
I hate that someone said they don’t like this because they don’t like reggae. This is just garbage. And NOBODY likes garbage. JK a lot of people do just not me.
In general enjoyed, honestly overall a little more mellow and vanilla than I was expecting. Which was a pro and con. Ultimately fine to listen to!
Into it, can’t say I follow the plot or metaphor, but enjoy a good overture.
Would give it five but Wayne coynes a lil bitch
Found it about as good as the last one without come on Eileen.
Never gonna be a personal fav but I think this album earned 4 stars.
Stuff of legends! Dem pipes, dem pipes.
Good album I’d probably have to listen to a lil more carefully to have more to say about.
Did not care for this!
Never been a huge Doors guy but I'll take Morrison over Morrisey most days....
A delight to listen to!
i was on wikipedia for this and learned the word sampledelia and its the perfect word for this. kinda feels like you're just flipping through a radio that gets broadcasts from the last hundred years, sometimes overlayed into a dope beat.
Fine! Probably won’t be repeat listening any time soon.
Giving Jethro a run for their money with all that flute.
Thoroughly enjoyed this! Many different sounds, similar vibe, had nice flow start to finish. Gonna check em out a lil more.
Sorry still just not there yet. Willing to keep at it but had time getting through the whole album of dudes voice.
Ehh aside from the couple hits this album is kinda garbage. Now stay the fuck away from me Frampton, I ain't got shit to say to you!
I actually never listened to Grizzly Bear except know a couple songs. Was pleasantly surprised by how this started out but then got kind of meh as it continued.
I did a deep dive into DB discography a while back and he's got a million albums and most are not that good. This one was solid but clearly not the best out there. Nice work though!
Loved this. Buttery folky harmonies, finger picks n strums. What more do ya need?
Eh dug the old school vibez, could have done with a few songs of this and called it quits
This was dope! Solid bluesy classic rock with some wacky elements and a wicked howl on vox. Other beefheart stuff is a lil too chaotic jazz rock for me to have enjoyed it. Side bar, there was a bit on the Mark Maron show (I think that was a thing?) where he was like I needed a project so thought I'd try to get into Captain Beefheart, but I was so nervous buying it at the record store cuz I'm not cool enough and everyones laughing at me. But he buys this album (I'd guess it was this one, don't remember) and then hes at a taqueria afterwards and the cashier is like "Oh I love Captain Beefheart, Safe As Milk is a great starter album". Haha kind of how I feel.
I didn't love it but kind of funny that so many 60s tropes and parodies came from this album and general vibe. 2 stars for me, 1 pity star for poor Donovan being the butt of the joke.
I liked it better than Joshua Tree, but honestly kinda just a cheezy pop rock album.
Even their 4th or 5th best album is five stars from me.
I heard the visuals at Coachella were so sick they made Ryan puke.
Liked a handful of songs but overall kinda blah!
Even a bad Radiohead album beats a Dexys Midnight Runner
Eh, kinda boring, didn't do much for me!
This is the cleanest five stars I've given so far. This album is fucking stuff of legends.
Flaming lips makes an elevator music album. Delightfully vanilla.
Dug this! Didn’t know Trex, everything about it suggested it would be cheese city but solid album!
Thought this album was dope! One big hit, but all the others were good and it worked well as a complete album and love her voice.
This is such a good album!
I thought this was dope, gonna listen more!
Probably would go closer to 4.8 if I could. Definitely a lil more on the one note side compared to later stuff but they're the beatles and nearly every song on this album is a stone cold classic so fuckoff.
Ehhhh wasn’t in the mood and found it boring. Maybe just caught me on a bad day.
Liked several songs but was a little one note overall and not my style
Lolz this was cheezy as fuck but like owned it and actually some pretty good jammy shreds in there.
Thought this album was dope and better than listening to top songs cuz it had some real range and an excellent autoplay.
Had never known Tears For Fears, don't really love this style of music but always thought they were another band so glad for the listen.
Yeah total butt rock, not for me!
Loved it. We actually got this album as a wedding gift from a random friend so was familiar but previously only had it on in the background and didn’t absorb as much. Will listen again, way better than Radiohead!
I feel like there’s been a bunch of albums recently where people said they didn’t like them cuz they were all over the place and I was like that’s what I liked about it. But this was like the bad version of that to me. Just many different types of boring that almost was good at times then veered elsewhere.
Lolz wtf? I'm guessing this was like groundbreaking when it came out but generally to appreciate that stuff you need to have been there or at least read some context. Painful listen tbh.
I liked it at first then got a little bored halfway in. All in all not bad, I'm sure the best 5 songs on the album would make a better picture of the band than the whole thing.
I'd checked out the pogues a big cuz big name in certain circles but didn't realize how dope they were. This was probably my favorite unfamiliar album I've done on this thing. 5 stars is an exaggeration but nobody reads this anyway...
This album was bad with a couple redeeming songs. So much backwards guitar loops!
There’s a five star album in here, just unnecessary amount of songs, but all good stuff!
Not my favorite Daft Punk album but still earns its stars.
So I was accidentally listening to the extended version but didn't like anything on this and so much of it went on forever.
Great album, I should listen to more YYYs
2 stars for the music, 1 extra for the lively discussion.
They earned that third star on my second listen. just some boring ass bloops telling you everything is OK.
I haven’t listened to this in probably 10 years and it is so fucking dope.
Solid album, could have used one or two more bangers but overall enjoyable listen
Its a hit parade, certainly not my favorite thing to listen to and probably will never listen to Pearl Jam again.
Killin it with this one.
