1001 Albums Summary

Objectively very good, and I enjoyed listening to it. I used to love old blues like this, and I once saw BB live. Just not sure it really scratches that itch for me these days.

As far as Christmas music goes, this album goes pretty hard.

Not a perfect album, but I’ve loved it ever since it first came out.

I was never into the NuMetal thing, so I was surprised that I didn’t hate this, but it’s not really for me.

I don’t listen to much hip hop, but I really enjoy this album.

Not super into this one. I liked the music/beats a lot better than the vocals.

I enjoyed this. I had never heard of this band before, and I’m not much of a metalhead, but I was definitely animated by this album. I don’t see myself listening to it regularly, but it would be great at the gym.

I’m trying to keep an open mind to genres I don’t normally listen to, but I just can’t get into this. That said, I didn’t hate it, and some songs had me tapping my foot.

This was hard to get through. A lot of it felt like the background music to a hacker scene in a cheesy action movie.

Some of it was good. None of it was great. The last song was unlistenable.

Waterloo Sunset is a great song, but there are some duds on here too.

Another amazing album and all-time favorite.

I have negative associations with this generation of pop music, so I expected to hate it. I didn’t like it, but I think it is more generic than bad.

There are many good songs on this album. But there are so many “meh” songs too. There are just a lot of songs. Probably could split it into a 5/5 album and a 3/5 album.

As with a lot of the hip hop on this list, I enjoyed more than o expected to. Not the best of the genre, but very listenable.

Almost went 1/5. Didn’t enjoy this.

I liked this better than I thought I would. I still found the combination of heavy metal with sort of Nickelback sounding rock a little jarring. It was best when the stuck to fast drums and guitar with growls.

R.E.M. is one of my favorite bands, and Radio Free Europe is my favorite song by them. That said, this is not my favorite album of theirs — the other songs just aren’t quite as strong in my opinion. Still a great listen all the way through.

I avoided this when it was new. It wasn’t a genre I enjoyed, and young me didn’t get along with the people I knew who listened to it. But I gave it an honest chance for this project. There is definitely some creativity here that is worth praising. But it was hard to listen to. I get that it is intentionally offensive — he seems to be making a point with that. But sometimes it like he leans into that just so he can say hateful and gross things. Maybe I’m wrong and there’s more to it than that, but at the end of the day I just didn’t like listening to it.
