Neil Young
2/5
I can see why people would fawn over this, but I just find it whiny and boring.

Paul McCartney and Wings
2/5
I just don't know what to make of this. It's like paul is just trying a little tooooo hard to be creative and it falls a bit flat. Not much melody, hooks aren't really there. Kind of does nothing for me sadly.
Also I can't think of wings without thinking of Alan partridge... Only the band the Beatles could have been.... JET!

White Denim
4/5
THIS is what this list is all about. A relatively obscure group I've never heard of playing the most beautiful music. Apparently this was released to "critical acclaim"... Normally the critics and I are polar opposites but not on this one.
For the first time in almost 400 albums, I actually went online and bought this straight after listening

Neil Young & Crazy Horse
2/5
It's whiny Neil young, but a little less whiny and a little more rocky. I still find it interminably boring though

Boston
3/5
First two tracks awesome. Track three drags a bit. Track four a bit derivative. Track 5 standard R&R number. Track 6 slower acoustic. Metal meets CSNY. Picks up pace half way through. Track 7 decent. Track 8 a weak closer
Steely Dan
2/5
Not my thing at all, decent musicianship but just doesn't do anything for me
The Notorious B.I.G.
3/5
Some intense tracks. Too much braggadocio. Biggies flow is a bit samey after a while. Prefer more upbeat hip hop to this style. Nice production but themes and flows are too repetitive for me. In context of when it was made, it's pretty revolutionary, but sounds out of date in 2023
The Doors
3/5
Beautiful production. Some great songs, some cut and past blues/rock and roll. An enjoyable listen, doesn't really move me though
Beatles
4/5
Some iconic songs. The filler tracks are ok, but the classics off this album carry it
The Mamas & The Papas
3/5
Nice harmonies. Simple ish music, sing along style. Seems to be a lot of covers. Lovely music but probably won't go back to it
The Temptations
2/5
Classic Motown sound. Wtf is runaway child... Is it their attempt at prog??? Not great overall
Gorillaz
5/5
Some really interesting tracks and approaches. Set the scene for what was to come. Definitely a headphones album
U2
1/5
I hate U2 but let's give it a try... No this is crap. Not for me! Boring... Manages to be both over/melodramatic and dull at the same time. Rubbish!
Ministry
2/5
Never heard of this band. Quite hypnotic, repetitive metal. Vocals I find quite grating. The good tracks would be a good way to get rid of some anger but it's otherwise a bit repetitive and samey
Throbbing Gristle
1/5
Never heard of these. It's just a load of noise... I don't know what I'm supposed to do with this. Not for me this. Rubbish
Kendrick Lamar
4/5
A very highly critically rated album. Stunning production. Some tracks I struggle to follow the flow of Kendrick. Drags a little in the middle of the album (three tracks) but overall a work of art. Superb
Crosby, Stills & Nash
3/5
Have listened to this once before. Very nice harmonies, very chill. But I find it a bit boring tbh.... CSNYs first album deja vu is actually better
Dr. Dre
3/5
An all time g funk classic. Production is beautiful and smooth. The tracks can get a bit samey in terms of beats. Dre is not a great rapper. The subject matter is a bit cringe at times. The skits are rubbish!
Cream
4/5
Some incredible songs. Sounds like greatest hits album. Filler tracks are weak at the end (blues and then mother's lament). Really solid album let down by weaker tracks at the end.
The Smashing Pumpkins
3/5
This is a long album... a very long album. Some incredible music on here by my word it drags
Happy Mondays
1/5
Madchester. I think you have to be stoned to enjoy this. Very much of it's time.... can see why people enjoy it but I cannot relate to or connect with it on any level. Boring
Parliament
3/5
Very vibey... every song just feels like a trip
Kings of Leon
2/5
First couple of tracks good and emotive. Gets very samey after the two big singles. Not really for me
Astor Piazzolla
3/5
Some nice enjoyable jazz style music. Not my bad but perfectly enjoyable
Stevie Wonder
3/5
The middle album of his run from talking book to songs in the key of life. Too many SW songs that are slow tempo and drag on for two minutes too long. The highlights are very high. They won't go is a great song
Prince
1/5
Title track great. This album hasn't aged well. Some of the beats and melodies sound like they have been done by a three year old. Songs are way too long and repetitive. Boring, will never listen to this again
Solomon Burke
3/5
Really nice old school rock and roll, blues, jazz. He has a lovely voice
Eels
4/5
Read his book - he has had a miserable life. The music is both depressing and uplifting at the same time. Some lyrics are very basic rhyming couplets. Voice can grate but it adds to the atmosphere. Beautifully produced.
T. Rex
3/5
Surprisingly chill. Quite psychedelic and vibey. Obviously main song is the highlight but other songs aren't as good
The Beach Boys
3/5
A very different BB sound to what I know. More socially and environmentally conscious lyrics. Music is average. Good enough, probably won't listen again though
Cyndi Lauper
4/5
What a great fun album. So many different styles of music and Cyndi's voice is so iconic and varied. Just great to listen to
Dusty Springfield
3/5
Perfectly fine music. Of it's time
Napalm Death
2/5
What is this noise. Like a poor man's slayer, with even lower growl vocals. Maybe good at the time but this has not aged well at all. Two stars for some riffs and some of the drumming
Buzzcocks
3/5
Surprisingly good. Love the basslines. With heavier guitars it wouldn't sound out of place in 90s punk era. Decent. Vocals not really my cup of tea
Ramblin' Jack Elliott
2/5
Perfectly fine, generic middle of the road country music
Ray Charles
2/5
No doubt of his contribution to blues, jazz and rock and roll. But there are toooooo many slow draggy boring songs. Maybe of it's time but it's dull as dishwater in parts today
Led Zeppelin
5/5
Have listened to this so many times. Amazing album. Some amazing guitar work, great tunes, great drumming. Some of the blues standards can get a bit boring though. Amazing production. When the songs take off they reallllly take off
4/5
Has it aged well? I honestly don't know. Some songs are still bangers, some are cringe. Riffs and John Otto's drumming is superb. Fred Durst is an acquired taste. Must admit I liked this album more than I thought I would. Really well produced, good fun if you don't take it too seriously
2/5
Nice singer. Songs the usual generic country/blues standards, quite boring
Fugazi
3/5
It's ok. Not the sort of thing I particularly enjoy. Something about his singing style doesn't work for me. Decent enough listen
Marvin Gaye
3/5
32 minutes of shagging music lol. Quite samey. Really nice production but does get a bit repetitive
Leonard Cohen
2/5
I have literally no idea what to expect listening to this. Nice enough vocals but to me this is kind of boring
Van Morrison
4/5
Beautifully produced. Sounds like butter. Love how thick the bass sounds. Vans voice is beautiful on this.
Traffic
2/5
Starts off very promising, but quickly gets boring. The longer more psychedelic efforts are just rubbish. Some good bluesy rock though
Elis Regina
3/5
I have no idea what she is saying. Catchy enough funky bluesey souly music. Nothing life changing but good enough
Soundgarden
3/5
Amazing soulful singing, heavy guitars, funky heavy drums.... And yet it's bloody boring for the most part. Draggggggy songs. They also love off time signatures
Pretenders
3/5
Pretty decent late 70s punk. Sounds very of it's time. Some really good songs, some bang average
The Cars
3/5
More late 70s punk lol. Television vibes. Perfectly fine but won't come back to anytime soon
Snoop Dogg
4/5
The chronic part 2? Really smooth beats and melodies. The rap style of snoop can start to grate after a while. The bars are pretty simple.by modern standards. Still, a very enjoyable album.z Serial Killa is a great song
Beastie Boys
4/5
Worth 5 stars just for sabotage. Some fantastic beats and bars, vintage beastie boys. But, like all beasties work, it just goes on for far toooooo long
Van Halen
3/5
Good fun rock/metal album. Nothing really moves me on here but still a fun listen. Last two tracks are pretty epic
AC/DC
5/5
Have listened to this a billion times. Great heavy rock. Love every single song, even if BIB has been played to death
Missy Elliott
1/5
Early missy Elliot - let's see what this is all about . So far it's boring generic rnb hip hop. Couldn't finish it. Boring!
Iggy Pop
4/5
A collection of really good songs. Really like the production style. A couple of songs go on for way too long
Ella Fitzgerald
2/5
The music my gran listened to. Nice enough, she has a lovely voice. But.... It's bloody boring and repetitive
The Police
3/5
I have never liked the police.... Let's see how this goes. It's ok. Some good stuff but it just doesn' move me at all
Johnny Cash
2/5
Johnny cash is boring to me, never understood it
Christina Aguilera
1/5
Back to overproduced autotuned rubbish lol...
Buck Owens
2/5
Boring singalong country/folk. Not my thing at all
Bobby Womack
2/5
The Rolling Stones
4/5
Love this album, basically stoned rock and roll. Sometimes go on a bit long in the middle
The start and end of the album is amazing but the long run of dreary songs in the middle spoil it. A bit more critical song selection would make this a 5
Queen
2/5
This doesn't sound like the queen you get on all the compilations. Sounds like a band finding their voice. Boring, nothing really grabbed me
Jane Weaver
1/5
I will never understand the appeal of this kind of music. Repetitive, whiny, whispy. Boring!
Fever Ray
4/5
Two songs in.... This is a very unique sound. Atmospheric, deep sounding. Quite hypnotic. Probably an album I'll save and return to when I need background vibes
Little Simz
3/5
UK rap - hmmm. Wasn't impressed with the album introvert so hopefully this will be better. Actually really good. I much prefer it when she gets angry about stuff. The beats are really good as are some of the melodies
Louis Prima
3/5
Fun enough, but rather boring old music
R.E.M.
5/5
Love this album. Have listened to it so much over the years. Dark atmospheric moody yet also uplifting in a weird way. Beautifully produced as well. Love it!
Can
2/5
Something that I just couldn't get into. Nothing like I expected.... Boring!!!!
The Pogues
3/5
Irish jig with a bit of edge. I like it, but won't be on my repeat list
Tori Amos
3/5
Nice enough. Not my thing though
The Kinks
3/5
Fun album. Nice mix between psychedelic and folly rock. Enjoyed it. Probably won't come back to it though
Otis Redding
3/5
A very ronseal album
Cheap Trick
3/5
Just another live rock album
Todd Rundgren
2/5
Bit boring for me
Billie Holiday
2/5
Great voice. But not for me this
Sam Cooke
2/5
Fun enough... Why is this one of the top 1001 albums though lol
Earth, Wind & Fire
3/5
You know exactly what you're getting here
Bob Marley & The Wailers
2/5
Every song sounds the same
Bob Marley & The Wailers
2/5
Two Bob Marley in two days lol. All sounds the same, saying similar things too
Fairport Convention
3/5
Nice music. Not my thing really. But this is good. Lovely music
The Rolling Stones
4/5
Starts amazing, gets dull after a few tracks
Deep Purple
3/5
Very enjoyable. Not quite heavy enough for me. Some nice songs. Smoke on the water.... Ugh
George Michael
3/5
Have never listened to George Michael beyond the usual hits. It's ok, nothing special
Sisters Of Mercy
1/5
Oh my god this is boring.
Massive Attack
3/5
Decent. Bit background music to me though
Simon & Garfunkel
2/5
CSNY but even more boring
Radiohead
4/5
Starts great, but gets a bit repetitive. Wonderfully produced
The Mothers Of Invention
3/5
The experimental stuff is far better than the filler. The bluesey songs are awful
The Allman Brothers Band
3/5
Another live album lol. Good musicianship, blues folk rock. Decent. Won't come back to it though
Malcolm McLaren
2/5
Never heard of these. I have no idea what this is trying to do. Afrobeat, 80s hip hop, rock all over the place
AC/DC
4/5
All time classic. But to me not the best acdc album, it is too slickly produced. Has a commercial American sound that to me doesn't suit them. Still great songs though
Adele
1/5
Undoubtedly great voice and talent but the songs are just not my thing. Boring!
Aretha Franklin
4/5
Can't go wrong with Aretha
Big Star
3/5
Perfectly fine. Didn't really know what to make of it
Def Leppard
4/5
Big fan of this record. Before Def leppard went soft
Radiohead
4/5
I've listened to this multiple times. Sometimes I think it's genius, sometimes I think it's awful. It depends on the mood of the listener I suppose. You cannot fault what they tried to do with this complete departure from OK computer.
Various Artists
3/5
I hate Christmas songs lol. But these songs are actually ok
Supergrass
3/5
Meh. Nothing music
Robert Wyatt
2/5
Got that sort of Sufjan Stevens vibe. Not my thing. Boring. Would listen to it in a garden or something
Wu-Tang Clan
5/5
All time classic. Great beats, great rhymes. Dirty. A few too many slots/spoken interludes, but that is just a 90s thing. Hip hop at it's purest for me.
A Tribe Called Quest
5/5
Buttery smooth production, buttery smooth rap and flow. The most relaxing hip hop ever made. A low end theory is slightly better overall as an album but this is superb
Eagles
3/5
One of the best songs ever recorded???? The rest of the album is very up and down though. Very nice to listen to. Really nicely produced. Some of the slower love songs are a bit sappy and or boring. Overall a great album though
Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark
2/5
Outside of the context of the scene this music was made for, it's hard to understand it. I just don't get it.
The Thrills
1/5
I really hated this wave of indie music from the mid 2000s. Just nothing music, boring AF
Mike Oldfield
2/5
Everything I thought it would be
Janelle Monáe
3/5
This is basically every genre of music in one. Enjoyable listen, great voice and vibes.
Herbie Hancock
3/5
Funky jazzy funky jazz. Really great rhythm section. Can't see me listening to this much in future but I very much enjoyed it
Sufjan Stevens
1/5
Have tried to get into this many times. Let's try again.... No, it's just the kind of music that critics think is deep and wonderful. It's boring, I just don't get it. Maybe it resonates more in America. And it's TOO LONG. Boring!
Iron Maiden
4/5
Yes! The album that started it all. Is this iron maidens best album? Even top 10? Hard to say. Has a punkier energy than the Bruce era. The guitar work is awesome, Clive burrs drumming is great (if not quite as swingy as Nicko). Really nicely produced, great separation etc. love this album. A couple of stinker songs bring the score down slightly
Primal Scream
2/5
I've only ever heard screamadelica so let's see what this is like... Yeah it's exactly how I thought it would be lol. Boring
David Bowie
2/5
Hmmmm. Not a patch on Ziggy stardust, I find DBs music quite dull overall
Metallica
2/5
I mean, it's ok.... I'm not sure their music REALLY mixes well with symphonic music. James sounds a bit half arsed. Lars is drumming as badly as ever lol.
Love Metallica but this left me a bit cold
The Undertones
3/5
That late 70s punky pop punk sound. I am glad it happened, because it led to great things, but I don't really enjoy it
Elvis Presley
4/5
The album that started it all (for Elvis). Basically a collection of blues rock and roll standards. He has charisma though, can see how he became big. BUT he did steal black music and appropriate it for himself (or his manager did at least). Good record!
Aerosmith
3/5
Apart from the greatest hits I've never really listened to aerosmith.... And this sounds EXACTLY how I thought it would
Blur
4/5
PARK LIFE. A selection of great songs. Some tripe in there though. I wonder how many people bought this off the back of the single and were disappointed lol.
Jethro Tull
3/5
Plinky plonky folky flutey rocky rock. Very enjoyable
Shivkumar Sharma
3/5
Very nice and chill and zen. It is a little garden-centrey though lol
The Black Crowes
2/5
43 minutes of American rock cliches lol
Amy Winehouse
3/5
Great voice, some great songs but otherwise meh
Fela Kuti
3/5
Red Hot Chili Peppers
3/5
Early peppers were better, but all this showed me is that the chillis haven't evolved their sound AT ALL in 30+ years
1/5
Another one of these arty experimental type things. It's just a collection of noises, I don't know what to do with this. Pish
Gene Clark
3/5
Have never heard of these ... Reasonably good folky Americana style music
ABBA
2/5
Sounds like abba, just a bit more boring
The Flaming Lips
2/5
Started well, had high hopes but ended up as another hour of boring plonky indie
Coldplay
1/5
Ugh. The most nothing type of nothing music. Cod feeling cod emotion, awful awful awful. I call stuff like this music for people who don't actually like music
fIREHOSE
4/5
This is the kind of album that makes me grateful for this list (and app of course). Never would have heard this in my life. Really enjoyed it, seems like the middle ground between rock and the rage against the machine/grunge movement to come. Love it
Ali Farka Touré
4/5
Very nice African style music. Hypnotic beats, chill guitar, great basslines
The Psychedelic Furs
3/5
Not really my kind of music, but perfectly fine
David Bowie
4/5
In the context of how this album came to be, it is heartbreaking. It's surprisingly positive music whilst also sounding incredibly depressing. Great stuff, but it isn't something I will come back to time and again.
David Bowie
4/5
Two David Bowie in a row lol. I knew nothing of this album before listening. It's by far the most interesting Bowie album I've heard yet. Very atmospheric, some great tracks. Is it Ziggy stardust? Probably not but I really enjoyed it
Manic Street Preachers
5/5
Maybe nostalgia talking but this is One of my all time favourites. This was my first MSP album and I've played it to death. Hearing it again reminds me just how great it was. Perfect mix of melody, atmosphere and aggression across the whole album. I could never click with the holy bible and I feel like they went a bit soft after TIMTTMY, so this for me is peak manics and a SUPERB album
Elvis Costello
2/5
Really nicely produced, enjoyable ISH music. Found my attention waning quite a bit at times. Another victim of the 90s trend for making really long albums just because the cd had enough space.
Curtis Mayfield
3/5
It's ok. Didn't know what to expect whilst also knowing exactly what to expect. Decent enough!
Prince
2/5
This album sums up everything about prince. Occasional moments of genius, way too many songs and way too many songs that outstay their welcome. And how many songs can he write about wanting to hump somebody? Prince is positively productive yet profligate.
Neil Young
2/5
I can see why people would fawn over this, but I just find it whiny and boring.
Machito
3/5
Perfectly enjoyable jazz/afro music
Paul Revere & The Raiders
2/5
Fine
Peter Gabriel
4/5
Surprisingly enjoyable, some great tracks on here.
Kraftwerk
2/5
Sorry just this is just boring
Big Brother & The Holding Company
3/5
I can see how this would have been appreciated at the time but it hasn't aged well. Janis Joplin is an interesting character
Turbonegro
2/5
Not really sure what this is trying to do. Is it fun? It is pastiche?
The Police
3/5
Something about the police really annoys me. The album tracks are more enjoyable than the hits for me. I wonder how this cod reggae would be accepted today?
Eric Clapton
3/5
Not bad actually, better than I thought it would be
Taylor Swift
3/5
Not my usual bag but a very enjoyable collection of songs you can't help but sing along too. Fair play to Taylor, she's inspired a generation
Black Sabbath
3/5
Interesting start to the heavy metal era. This kind of sounds like led zeppelin but a bit heavier. They really developed the sound for paranoid, this is...dare I say... A little dull. In the context of it's time it's revolutionary, doesn't really hold up in 2024 for me though
The La's
3/5
Had no idea what to expect only knowing THAT song, but surprisingly good album. Shame they were defined by that one song because there's some good stuff on here. Runs out of steam though
Ryan Adams
1/5
This is what I like to call "music for people who don't really like music". Awful, boring, generic, plastic rubbish. How on earth has this made it onto the list? One star is being generous
Neil Young
2/5
Another Neil young album lol
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
2/5
I mean it's fine but that's it
The Who
2/5
Great atmosphere in this live album. Decent playing. But it is a live album soooooo
Supergrass
3/5
ANOTHER supergrass album... I mean they were quite big in the 90s but come on! This is better than the debut. Great deep sound, but as with so many of these albums it runs out of steam towards the end
Pavement
3/5
These guys love a discordant note lol. Pretty good, quite gritty but the singers overly American pronunciation is somewhat grating.
Spiritualized
3/5
Never heard of this band. Interesting mix of genres, surprisingly good.
Led Zeppelin
5/5
Oooh yes. Could possibly be my favourite zep album. Written in the Welsh valleys, it shows through in the second half. Since I've been loving you is an all time classic
Bob Dylan
4/5
This is so much better than highway 61, which seems to rate higher on the various album lists. Really enjoyed this
Ali Farka Touré
2/5
Nice enough.... But boring
Frank Sinatra
2/5
This sounds EXACTLY like I thought it would. Can't knock blue eyes but this is very of it's time. It's the music I remember my gran listening and singing along to. It's pretty dull by any modern standards
Willie Nelson
3/5
You know exactly what you're getting with a Willie nelson album, and this is no exception. Perfectly nice, perfectly fine
Creedence Clearwater Revival
4/5
Always like the vibe of CCR but never given them the time to get into them. Really enjoyed this album, upbeat rock and roll, singer has a great voice. Very much enjoyed this album, it's a keeper.
Duke Ellington
3/5
A 2 hour live album??? Come on guys we're all busy people
Girls Against Boys
3/5
Never heard of this band. Quite like their style, equidistant between grunge, hard rock and punk. It probably won't end up on my rotation but I enjoyed it nonetheless
Rush
5/5
Oh now we're talking. One of the best side As ever put together. Personally I love it all but those first four tracks are rock music at its very best
Love
2/5
A few half decent songs and then an almost 20 minute jam. Come on lads!
The Go-Go's
3/5
For some reason I've never heard of these. The album starts with so much promise, with catchy and upbeat songs.... Then after track 4 it becomes a drag as they really slow the pace down. It ends better though. I also didn't know this is the band that launched Belinda Carlisle sooo
Jefferson Airplane
4/5
Feeeeed your headdddddddddddddd. Arguably the best psychedelic group of this era? Great album
Killing Joke
3/5
A decent listen. Not quite sure how to categorise it, maybe angrier version of Television? Decent album!
Bee Gees
3/5
This is not what I was expecting! Shame they had to become falsetto kings. This is much better, but a very hit and miss album. Sometimes sounds like Elton John lol
New Order
2/5
This kind of 80s electro synth pop has never really done it for me. I assume you have to have been there at raves off your tits to enjoy it. This album specifically does nothing for me, it's just meh music.
Alice In Chains
3/5
Very dark. Very depressing. Music can get a bit draggy but I can imagine angsty teenagers loving it.
4/5
Ah the 90s. Blur v oasis. I was actually more of a blur man, however this is still a very good rock and roll album. Some fantastic songs on there
The Cure
2/5
I've never really known how to take the cure. Depending on the day I can find them incredible or awful. This album sits somewhere between the two
Os Mutantes
3/5
Wtf is this lol
Leonard Cohen
1/5
Probably deep and awesome but I just can't bear his voice so I couldn't stick this one out
The Zombies
2/5
This list seems to love physcadelia...
Coldplay
1/5
Ugh.... Just because something sold by the millions does not mean it is an important album. Robson and Jerome sold millions of albums too, enough said
Hole
3/5
Not sure of the timelines of how this fits into the whole Courtney/Kurt story, but given this is 1994 is sounds a lot like Hole's attempt at in utero. The vocals are raw and passionate, but the music is dull, derivative and uninspired. Shame
Gene Clark
2/5
Nice music. Lovely music. Boring music... Another one for the category of "nothing music"
The White Stripes
3/5
I've never really understood the mass appeal of this band... Jack white is clearly a decent musician but meg can't drum for toffee and whilst some people think it gives the music character, I just think it sounds pish. The album itself is decent enough, the middle section really drags for me with the slower numbers and the long blues jam.
Bob Dylan
3/5
It's a bob Dylan album. Maybe in his time this stuff was revolutionary, it's good and all but to mean it all sounds the same
Eminem
5/5
What an album. Nothing like this before or since. Do I agree with a lot of the things he says? No. Do I enjoy the creativity of the guy? Absolutely. I'll never forget hearing Kim for the first time in the common room, actually blew my mind.
Music wise the production is incredible, buttery smooth and the rhymes are fantastic (just take everything he says with a massive pinch of salt)
Hot Chip
2/5
This sort of trendy cool electro indie isn't really my thing. Still enjoyed listening to this though
LL Cool J
3/5
The ladies LOVE COOL J lol. Never heard any of his stuff beyond the singles so let's see how this goes....
Interesting mix of hip hop and r an B across the album. Some of the rhymes are a bit basic. Enjoyable enough listen though
Tom Tom Club
3/5
Definitely getting female talking heads vibes.. really enjoyable, also notice the song that Mariah Carey sampled lol
Pulp
5/5
This album, literally, is different class
Beatles
5/5
I'm always very torn on this one. On the one hand there are some incredible pieces of music on here. On the other hand, it's a hot mess, and you can almost hear the band falling apart behind the scenes. Songs written and performed by only one member, random songs, overlong..... It's easy to see why this is considered the weakest of the peak era Beatles albums. I do still love it though. So confusing!
Tim Buckley
2/5
Started well, then got interminably dull
David Bowie
2/5
Not sure of context of this album but it just feels like a long meandering jam. Even the fame-ous song (see what I did there) realllly starts to drag. I felt excited when I heard the first track but quickly lost interest and was waiting for this to finish by the end. Still feel that Bowie is one of the most overrated musicians of that era
A mixed bag...... Obviously stay with me is an absolute banger, but between that the other tracks are mostly fairly standard blues/rock and roll numbers. Also rod Stewart was much cooler in this band than he later became lol
Kendrick Lamar
3/5
People rave about this but I don't really get it. To pimp a butterfly is waaaaaay better
Pixies
4/5
A fantastic album, all over the place, weird as hell, dirty production but a joy to listen to
Public Enemy
5/5
Revolutionary in the context of it's time. The beats and rhymes still sound decent, but have been surpassed. Flava flav really starts to grate on my ears after a few tracks though.
All that said, I love this album, it is SUPERB
Metallica
4/5
The first Metallica album I brought, not knowing this is the one where they "sold out".
The usual heavy hitters (sandman, n.e.m) aside, this is still a really well produced rock/metal album. Each song hits pretty well for me.
As with many Metallica albums it does start to run out of steam towards the end but overall, decent
Pixies
4/5
My second pixies album in a week lol. This is definitely better than surfer Rosa overall. It's just yet more unhinged rock music. Great stuff.... Some of the songs on side 2 are a bit less memorable
Talking Heads
3/5
Like most people I'm familiar with remain in light so will be good to try a different album of theirs. Yeah it's basically the same, lopping guitars and drums with David byrne talking cod philosophy over the top lol. Still enjoyed it!
Radiohead
3/5
The one Radiohead album I have never heard for some reason. It's like kid a but not quite as good
King Crimson
1/5
I only know ITCOFKC so this is quite the departure lol. When they rock out it sounds great, the rest is whiny pretentious rubbish. Maybe this is one of those records that needs a few listens to "get it". Unfortunately this album won't be getting that chance with me
Orbital
1/5
I assume you have to be off your tits to enjoy this, because listening to it sober on a Wednesday morning, it is utter garbage. Couldn't finish it
The White Stripes
3/5
Some decent songs. Its a white stripes album, sounds pretty much like every other one. One thing I'd like to say is that meg white absolutely stole a living in the industry, she cannot drum and her singing voice is just awful. Thank god she knew jack!
Fatboy Slim
4/5
I don't remember how but I know this album really well, in spite of never having owned it. Fatboy slim wasn't the first to turn sampling into an art form in it's own right but my word did he do it well. What's amazing is that in 2024 he is still an A list DJ and people still love what he does. This is a fantastic album, can be enjoyed anytime and anywhere
Radiohead
5/5
Generally agreed as the best album ever made and I find it hard to disagree
The Smashing Pumpkins
3/5
I've never known an album start so well for the first five tracks and then get a little worse each time until the end. The high energy at the start just drifts into slow meandering walllowy music, which I find boring. There's one exception around track 9/10, which is actually a decent song, but then it drags out a completely unnecessary middle section and kills the song.
This and Mellon collie show that the pumpkins were a band who needed someone to tell them no sometimes
Megadeth
3/5
The first song just reminds me of something a band in south park would make lol. Megadeth are a confusing band - incredible musicianship coupled with Dave Mustaines horrible vocals. I enjoy listening to them but only once in a while. This album is a decent enough rocker all the way through. Not quite rust in peace though
Elvis Costello & The Attractions
4/5
This is my 2nd Elvis Costello album on the list, and after the stinker before (the 90s album), this was a VERY pleasant surprise. Catchy songs, great melody, great drumming, decent vocals. This is getting saved to my collection
Johnny Cash
2/5
ANOTHER Johnny cash at a prison album????
Judas Priest
4/5
Listening in 2024 it sounds cliched and hack, but in the context of when this was released, it is a superb metal album. The solos are the highlight for me
Meat Puppets
4/5
Blimey you can really tell how this band influenced Kurt Cobain. Great album!
The Byrds
3/5
Jingly jangly 60s indie pop. Fine but nothing else
Jane's Addiction
2/5
A pretty mediocre album imo. Maybe in context of the time it was released it's good, but I find it quite dull
Bruce Springsteen
2/5
Question: How many mid tempo songs can one man write about blue collar America?
Answer: Loads!
I thought it was a joke about how Bruce basically writes the same song over and over again, but now I've heard a few albums I can see how true this is.
LCD Soundsystem
2/5
Like talking heads if talking heads had more access to electronic stuff and weren't as creative
Keith Jarrett
3/5
I mean it is what it is
Crowded House
3/5
Everywhere you goooo oo oooo
Yep, just as expected, an hour ISH of middle of the road nothing music
Minutemen
3/5
Now that's a lot of songs
James Brown
3/5
Decent live album, James has the audience in the palm of his hand here
Nick Drake
3/5
Nice jingly music
Moby
3/5
Good, but massively overrated. Some tracks are awesome but some really haven't stood the test of time. Plus his "essays" in the cd sleeve are cringe beyond belief
Mercury Rev
4/5
Surprisingly good. Will save this one
The Kinks
3/5
Yeah fine
The Rolling Stones
2/5
Decent, can drag a lot at times, which is soooo rolling stones
Nas
5/5
Simply one of the all time greats... The flows and vibes of this album are something else!
Public Enemy
4/5
Funkier than ITANOMTHUB
Dare I say it, I like it more!
Kanye West
5/5
Whilst some of his opinions and world views are a little..... Unorthodox, this for me is one of the greatest albums ever made.
The production is insane, the storytelling and imagery he creates with his wordplay is sublime. The album dips a little in the middle after monster but recovers from runway onwards...(Except that "Yeezy taught me" nonsense).
Just an incredible album.
Carpenters
4/5
What a beautiful album. Just gorgeous
Funkadelic
4/5
Decent enough album.... Maggot brain is a contender for the guitar solo of the century
John Coltrane
4/5
Lovely bubbly
Fugees
5/5
Killing me softly made them famous but this album is so much more than that. The rhymes are gorgeous, the beats are beautiful, Lauryn hill is such a good rapper. The skits are funny and not overly long. The themes hit hard and reflective of the 90s (and probably still true today).
Also, more bands should drop one world class album and leave it at that!
Antony and the Johnsons
3/5
This is something very different. Which makes a nice change. Really enjoyed it. Will I go back to it? Probably not, but still decent!
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
3/5
A strange mix of Irish folk, country, rock and goth. Not for me but an interesting enough listen
Radiohead
5/5
Babys got the benddddsssss.
Ok computer was my first real exposure to Radiohead so this surprised me in how "simple" it is in comparison.
Great album, some of the songs hit so hard. I don't think there's a single skip in there
Bon Jovi
3/5
Very much an album of two halves. The first half is banger after banger (even accounting for the massively overplayed living on a prayer)
The second half is just a lot of filler, half arsed Bruce Springsteen lite songs. Gutted after how good the first half was!
The Boo Radleys
2/5
Boring, nothing music. Sorry lads, wake up!
Frankie Goes To Hollywood
2/5
I really don't like 80s music..... This is crap
The Associates
1/5
More 80s synth pop uggghhhh. Why did they have to gate the drum sounds like that?!?!?!
Stevie Wonder
5/5
Oh baby! One of the greatest, best produced albums ever made. My one and only criticism is that some (a lot) of the songs drag on for way too long. Putting that aside, this is an all time great. If it's magic is my go to song to test speakers, it has so much space to breathe. 6 stars
Queen
3/5
Early queen was weird. From absolute bangers to absolute garbage, they had it all
Belle & Sebastian
2/5
I mean it's nice music and all, but this is just that kind of music that I cannot stand. Jingly jangly wishy washy boring waffly indie. Get out of my ears!
Nightmares On Wax
2/5
Nice background music I suppose
Randy Newman
3/5
Nice
The Clash
3/5
I have struggled with this album over the years, it feels a bit overlong and repetitive.. but let's try again.
Still the same... I can see why people like this, but for it gets rather repetitive rather quickly
Stevie Wonder
5/5
Oh baby. For me SITKOL just beats this but my word this is close. Every single song is incredible in its own way
Dinosaur Jr.
3/5
Bridging that gap between sex pistols punk and the American pop punk era of the 90s
Richard Thompson
4/5
Was unsure at first but as this went on it really grew on me. Lovely music to relax to.
One song realllllly reminds me of neutral milk hotel, which is perhaps where he got some of his influence from
Genesis
1/5
94 minutes! Goodness me
God prog rock can be boring.... How can three grown men seriously sit and write this tosh! Boring beyond belief
Rush do prog rock better
Nirvana
4/5
The difficultt third album :)
It's much more raw and aggressive than nevermind but it's a stunning album. Feels like a massive F U to a lot of people
Depeche Mode
2/5
An enjoyable enough ISH listen. I have always struggled to see the point of music like this, and this album does nothing to help me find it.
Caetano Veloso
4/5
A really nice smooth album. Things like this make me grateful for this list
Neil Young & Crazy Horse
2/5
It's whiny Neil young, but a little less whiny and a little more rocky. I still find it interminably boring though
The Cardigans
3/5
I didn't really know much beyond the singles of this band. This is a perfectly fine album, so creative ideas in there. But without multiple repeated listens (which won't happen) I can't see this having much staying power
Linkin Park
5/5
I am the perfect age to love this album. When it came out it blew my mind and I've listened to it hundreds of times
Listening as an older man, it still absolutely BANGS. The mix of melody, beats and pure rage are just brilliant. There'll never be another Chester Bennington that's for sure.
I can see how someone listening objectively might find this a bit cringe, but for me it is just 38 minutes of amazing music
Metallica
3/5
If Lars hadn't been so weird about the bass, this would be one of the greatest metal albums of all time. Thanks lars.
The drums sound absolutely awful too, I HATE that tinny snare sound. What is it with Lars and shitty snare sounds??!!??
Also how many time signature changes do you want? YES!
Deep Purple
4/5
Wow that boy can sing! Fantastic live album
Pet Shop Boys
1/5
Genuinely one of the most boring albums I've ever heard.
Goldfrapp
1/5
Not sure what this is supposed to do for me, but it was one of the most boring albums ever
Frank Zappa
4/5
A movie for your ears. Can sometimes sound a bit farty but otherwise it's a great listen. Some brilliant musicianship on display
5/5
Love this album.
Marvin Gaye
4/5
Great album, very poignant of it's time but I do feel it gets a bit repetitive after a while
5/5
50 Cent
2/5
Had so much potential, but ends up as faux gangster rap with pop production.
Oasis
4/5
First heard cigarettes and alcohol on some compilation in the mid 90s. Didn't get round to this album until after What's the story blew up and the oasis/blur feud. It's a decent enough album, strange how this band is the one that took the most plaudits of the britpop era.
Songhoy Blues
4/5
Decent! This is why I love this list, I would never have heard this without it.
Minor Threat
3/5
A perfectly good shouty punk album. Only 21 minutes long too!
Funkadelic
3/5
Perfectly decent funk music. Maggot brain is a stunning song though
3/5
Fine
Thelonious Monk
3/5
Nice jazz but i don't like jazz all that much
ABBA
3/5
Basically a greatest hits album lol
The Dave Brubeck Quartet
4/5
Lovely jazz. I don't understand jazz at all but this is lovely jazz
Suzanne Vega
3/5
Uber cool. This music doesn't really move me at all, but decent enough
Solange
2/5
I remember everyone raving about this album... But I found it boring
Guns N' Roses
5/5
Quite simply one of the greatest rock albums ever made. PROBABLY the best debut album ever. Raw energy, brutal riffs, beautiful bass work, powerful drumming. It's got it all! Sweet child of mine can get in the bin, but everything else is AWESOME
The Strokes
5/5
I wasn't into this at the time, I thought it was all a bit too trendy. Now with the passage of time, I can listen to this many times and appreciate how good it is. It is the perfect length for an album, each song has merits, and there is hardly any filler in this album. Love it
CHIC
3/5
Just 40 minutes of pure vibes. Does it drag on a bit at times? Yes. Does it matter? Absolutely not! The production is also buttery smooth and clear. Take a bow Nile Rogers
The Smiths
4/5
A fantastic album. Separate art from the artist and appreciate this for what it is
The Go-Betweens
2/5
Boring
Elton John
3/5
Yeah it's an Elton John album
Eagles
1/5
Boring. So boring
Gang Starr
3/5
Flows are VERY 80s but it's an enjoyable enough
Beastie Boys
4/5
HEY LADIESSSSSS
Liz Phair
1/5
This is just crap. What is this
Queen
3/5
I don't really know what to make of this. The obvious highlights are amazing, but it's also completely all over the place at times. Wtf is going on in the prophets song??!!?!?
Ray Charles
3/5
Love ray charles but this felt like a load of rather boring blues love songs
The The
1/5
Not quite sure what that was
Alexander 'Skip' Spence
2/5
Hmmmm. ... Boring
JET!
Elvis Presley
3/5
Had a lot of potential to be great but just ended up quite boring by the end
The xx
2/5
This music is so achingly trendy it makes every muscle in my body tense
Youssou N'Dour
2/5
I like African vibes but this was a bit rubbish
Stephen Stills
3/5
Stills is probably my favourite from CSNY, and this album shows why. It can get a bit dad rock from time to time but generally speaking it's an hour of really nice music
Dexys Midnight Runners
1/5
I don't know what this was. What was this??!!?
Adele
3/5
What a voice... But 45+ minutes of it does start to grate a bit
B.B. King
3/5
I mean it's fine and everything but that's it, just fine 🤘
Todd Rundgren
4/5
This is one of the weirdest collections of music I've ever heard, but I bloody loved it. It's literally all over the place
Basement Jaxx
5/5
The bangers are bangers and the fillers are bangers. What an album
The Smiths
3/5
Not a patch on the queen is dead but still a decent album. Some great bass lines in there
Michael Jackson
4/5
Have fond memories of this from my youth. Listening as an adult, it's beautifully produced and got some absolute bangers on there. I think this MAY even be better than thriller (don't @ me)
A Tribe Called Quest
4/5
Smooth jazzy flowy hip hop. Some of the lyrics are a little questionable in 2024 but putting that to one side, this is one hell of a chill album
Siouxsie And The Banshees
3/5
I mean it's ok
Brian Eno
3/5
This repetitive music with random warblings over the top is fine in small doses
De La Soul
4/5
3 is the magic number. Very ahead of its time at the time, some brilliant sampling. The rhyming is good, if not a little odd. I would gladly never hear de la orgy again though lol
Beastie Boys
3/5
An enjoyable listen but the beasties can really grate on my ears after a while
Beck
3/5
Having only known odelay, this was an interesting listen.
Song with slide guitar? Check. Random samples? Check. Vocals in that weird beck-style intonation? Check!
It's fine, but not something I'll ever revisit... Probably
1/5
The sound of my brain falling down the stairs. Jesus what a noise.
This may be all virtuoso and stuff but it's bloody awful. Zero out of ten
Haircut 100
2/5
This is so 80s. So so so 80s
Prince
4/5
Easily Princes best album. Beautiful production great songs
Lorde
2/5
Starts well, gets very boring very quickly... Music for teenage girls angry at their boyfriend (which is fine but not my demographic lol)
Blondie
3/5
The deep cuts are better than the hits imo.
Ms. Dynamite
3/5
It's alright. Sounds very of it's time
David Holmes
2/5
If I was drunk/stoned after a night clubbing and wanted to vibe for the remaining wee hours, I'd stick this on. Since I'm neither of those things, this is repetitive and SO 90s
Run-D.M.C.
3/5
It's run DMC
Fleetwood Mac
5/5
One of the best albums of all time. Nothing more to add
Run-D.M.C.
4/5
Second run DMC in three days. this is the album that really blew them up and rightly so.
Compared to modern hip hop it's pretty simplistic, but in context of it's time it's creative, boundary pushing and great fun to listen to.
Tracy Chapman
3/5
Everyone knows the first six words of fast car lol
The album itself is ok, some genuine heartfelt music and words in there. Hard for me to personally relate but I appreciate it
Also I didn't know she covered the Boyzone song
Everything But The Girl
1/5
Boring
The Afghan Whigs
2/5
Pound shop smashing pumpkins
Green Day
5/5
Certain things make up more than the sum of their parts. Green day and dookie is one such example.
No one (and I mean no one) does melody quite like billy Joe.
No one noodles the bass quite like mike
And no one swings and rocks quite like tre.
Put the three together and this is what happens.
Perhaps this album gets overshadowed by basket case, but the entire thing is just a joy to listen. Did green day peak with this album? Maybe!
Jimi Hendrix
3/5
No one did it like Jimi did... But this album meanders and drags along like nobody's business
Perhaps a stricter producer might have been better for this album
Depeche Mode
1/5
I despise synthy 80s music and I despise Depeche mode.
Music is subjective, but I genuinely cannot find anything to like in this. Utter crap
Johnny Cash
3/5
Meh
The Rolling Stones
3/5
Like every rolling stone album I've ever heard... Some absolute bangers and some dross filler
3/5
For some reason I thought this would be like KT Tunstall and wasn't expecting much.
Very pleasantly surprised. Probably not the kind of music I'll come back to often but it's honest enough
The Offspring
5/5
You'll either love it or hate it, but I LOVE IT
Faust
2/5
This again is one of those albums I just don't quite understand
Scritti Politti
3/5
Really gives me prince vibes. Enjoyable listen
Taylor Swift
2/5
Hmmmm not quite sure how this has made the list
The Who
3/5
Very much a band finding their voice. Would have been revolutionary at the time but falls a bit flat in 2024. Some of the tracks are quite lazy blues / rnb numbers too
Janis Joplin
5/5
For all her infamy, I’ve never actually heard any Janis Joplin.
Now I can see what the fuss was about! So raw and energetic
The Cramps
2/5
Rubbish
Slayer
5/5
Probably the only thrash metal album you’ll ever need to hear
Perfection
Aerosmith
3/5
Aerosmith finding their voice. Decent enough but really runs out of steam towards the end
Pink Floyd
5/5
One of the GOAT nothing more to add
ZZ Top
3/5
Solid rock. Good hooks, great solos and even a massive bass solo.
Don’t mind it one bit
Buffalo Springfield
3/5
Yeah it’s ok
Aretha Franklin
4/5
The GOAT
Beck
3/5
Pretty good.
Elvis Costello
2/5
So many Elvis Costello albums on this list lol.
I struggle to see the appeal really
Metallica
5/5
What’s to say. Great album
The Streets
5/5
Looking at the average score and the comments, it looks like this doesn’t resonate with those outside Britain.
It’s a work of art all the way through
Dusty Springfield
2/5
Is thIs REALLY an album I NEED to hear??!
Peter Gabriel
4/5
His music is just all over the place and I love it
Little Richard
5/5
Dede dede dede dede dedede wooooooo!
Frank Sinatra
2/5
I’ve never quite understood the appeal of old blue eyes and indeed the whole crooner genre.
Also, swinging lovers means something very different these days
Mariah Carey
3/5
When this first came out I didn’t like the r and b direction it went in
These days it has aged pretty well but is it REALLY one of the 1001 albums i need to hear
PJ Harvey
1/5
Angry woman rock
William Orbit
1/5
Ahhhhh early 90s stoner electronica. Utter utter garbage
King Crimson
3/5
As pretentious as it comes but yeah it's still decent
Fela Kuti
3/5
Decent enough. Captures the energy of the room well. The music gets a bit repetitive at times.
Also I am a drummer myself and I find drum solos interminably boring, so this loses a star for that.
Paul Simon
3/5
A respectful nod or cultural appropriation?
Public Image Ltd.
2/5
This repetitive early 80s music just makes no sense to me at ALL
Drive-By Truckers
3/5
Enjoyable enough. Really well produced as well
Talking Heads
3/5
Decent. They hit their peak later on though
Muddy Waters
3/5
Mamma gone took those batteries
Tim Buckley
3/5
Prefab Sprout
3/5
It's ok
Steely Dan
3/5
Yeah it's ok. This type of music just doesn't do anything for me
Kings of Leon
2/5
Judt don't get it. Rubbish melodies the guy is unintelligible.
Pere Ubu
1/5
About 360 albums in, I'm starting to realise that there hasn't been all that much incredible music ever made. If this is good enough to get on the list, I have little hope for the remaining 700 or so
This is utter utter bilge. Maybe it's saying something I'm too dumb to understand, but to me it's a band playing that repetitive style so common in the late 70s with unintelligible "singing" over the top. Rubbish!
Spiritualized
3/5
A pleasant enough listen. Literally never heard of these until this list
Siouxsie And The Banshees
3/5
Very enjoyable, I can see why this band had so much influence on punk
Paul Simon
3/5
Paul Simon - his music is lovely, some of his best hits are classics. Nonetheless, most of his music just doesn't hit me with all that much joy. Still, a decent album
Red Snapper
1/5
Yet another post rave spliff album.
This is categorically NOT an album I needed to hear
PJ Harvey
1/5
Switch on radio 6 in the early 2010s and this stuff is basically every song you'd hear
I looked at the Wikipedia page and as predicted it's full of 5 star reviews from the pretentious music press. A middle aged woman singing about the horrors of young men going to war is borderline cultural appropriation!
Pink Floyd
5/5
An all time classic - has to be listened to in it's entirety to be fully enjoyed.
3/5
Meh
The White Stripes
3/5
Of the three (THREE) white stripes album I've had, I enjoyed this the most. Massively loses momentum towards the end but overall a stronger collection of tracks than the others
Black Sabbath
3/5
Decent
George Michael
2/5
Very 80s. I don't really know why he got so big tbh
Jerry Lee Lewis
4/5
I bloody love this early era rock and roll. It's just so fun
Pixies
3/5
All pixies stuff sounds the same but it's still good
Common
3/5
Technically a great rapper but this music has always left me cold. The best verses on this are by Kanye
The Who
3/5
In it's time it's a pretty decent concept album. You can just about follow the story. Musically it's hit and miss - there's something about the Who's sound that just doesn't quite sit right with me
Rocket From The Crypt
3/5
Like most people I know on a rope but that's about it.
Album is ok, very samey but I think with repeated listens it would grow
Sly & The Family Stone
3/5
Great but my word the jams drag on
The Velvet Underground
3/5
I have never been addicted to heroin so I don't really know to relate to this. I've listened to it many times but I just don't get it. In context it's probably a masterpiece but to my ears it just sounds bad. It's one of those albums that you have to like because the critics tell you you should
Creedence Clearwater Revival
4/5
I heiyd it through the grapevine that this is a pretty solid album. Some of the blues numbers are a bit cut and paste but this is overall a solid album. I just love the singers voice in CCW
White Denim
The Black Keys
2/5
As dull as dishwater
Sonic Youth
2/5
Oh so trendy oh so boring
Dire Straits
2/5
Soaring highs and interminable lows.
Bob Dylan
4/5
Some of it goes over my head but my word this is great
Queens of the Stone Age
2/5
Like every other QOTSA album, some interesting highs but too much meandering music that goes nowhere. Josh Hommes voice can get very grating.
Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young
4/5
Simply fantastic. Four massive egos fighting for musical dominance.
Neil youngs music is still boring and whiny though lol
Also the last two tracks don't quite do it for me, but the first 8 (except helpless) are incredible..... I just noticed that track 9 is also a Neil young track. God he's so overrated lol
Kanye West
4/5
Putting to one side that the guy needs serious help, he made some great music. Personally I prefer late registration, MBDTF and yeezus to this, but this is still great. Beautiful production, clever wordplay and I've always liked his rapping style, it sounds different to pretty much everyone else around
The Killers
3/5
Has there ever been an album of two halves quite like this? Side one, rock solid 10/10. Side 2, 6/10 if I'm being generous.
Personally I have always preferred Sam's town but this is an amazing debut album that rightly propelled the band to global megastardom.
Traffic
2/5
Starts with a lot of promise, then becomes just another 70s prog ISH album. Really tails off in the middle with only a slight improvement on the final track
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
1/5
Oh so moody oh so atmospheric oh so crap. I honestly don't understand how someone can enjoy this
Bob Dylan
3/5
It's ok. Still don't quite get the hype behind bob
1/5
Oh christ another U2 album. I gave it a chance but it just goes through me. Sorry guys
OutKast
4/5
Basically two albums in one, but great mix of styles.
It could have been one very good album with a bit less ego and a bit more ruthless editing from the lads. Nonetheless it's an enjoyable record, if you treat it as two individual albums
Jorge Ben Jor
3/5
Yeah it's decent, enjoyed listening to this
Madness
2/5
Yeah it's a madness album, sounds EXACTLY how I thought it would. Meh
The Crusaders
3/5
Street life was on a tape in the shop I used to work in, I heard it every 90 minutes during my working week. So I hate it, but I can still appreciate it for what it is.
The rest of the album...... Mostly forgettable coffee table jazz
Violent Femmes
2/5
A very 6 music style album. Got very repetitive very quickly
Franz Ferdinand
4/5
Repetitive? Yes. Great? Yes! Can't believe this came out 21 years ago.
It's ALWAYS better on holiday
Arctic Monkeys
5/5
Oh yes! If you're British and between the ages of 35 and 50 this album is one of the greatest of all time.
The view from the afternoon perfectly sums up the feeling you get the afternoon before a session with your mates and a certain romance is a perfect allegory for the relationships you have with your mates at that age. All the tracks between are incredible too, even the overplayed I bet you look good on the dancefloor
Boards of Canada
1/5
Apart from people getting stoned after a rave WHO ACTUALLY LISTENS TO THIS.
it's utter utter rubbish. One star is generous
Bruce Springsteen
4/5
The man who wrote 1000 songs about breaking out of small town life.
What an album though - sometimes I think the production is a bit tooooo layered, with a lot of detail getting lost in the sheer number of different things going on.
Joy Division
1/5
I despise this late 70s/early 80s moody synth pop. Stuff like this and Depeche mode can just get in the BIN.
Honestly who actually likes this kind of music, it's soulless, boring, drab, nothing music. Crap!
Stan Getz
2/5
Nice chill samba-y jazzy vibes. Sometimes sounds a bit like garden centre music lol. Is this really one of the albums I MUST hear??
Dexys Midnight Runners
2/5
Like most, I only really know come on Eileen and Jackie Wilson said.
The rest of it... Meh
The Soft Boys
3/5
Another album that has retrospectively decided to be cool.
It was ok
The Good, The Bad & The Queen
1/5
It's like a more boring version of a gorillaz album. Seeing as gorrilaz is essentially a supergroup, I really struggle to tell the difference between that and this.... Except that this is mind numbing and there is no rapping
Sigur Rós
1/5
ANOTHER album that I just don't know when people would choose to listen to it. Who is for????
1hr 12 minutes of noise and someone whining unintelligibly
Elliott Smith
1/5
What? Another generic early 2000s singer songwriter writing the most bland indie I've ever heard? YES PLEASE.
And now I read his Wikipedia page I see he either stabbed himself or was murdered by his girlfriend..... Sound
The Chemical Brothers
2/5
Their singles are bangers but this as an album was quite boring. Can see them finding their voice in this though
The Sensational Alex Harvey Band
3/5

I'm glad that this exists because it's a precursor to the great albums that followed in the 90s
However, this is mind numbing
Creedence Clearwater Revival
3/5

1/5
The worst bits of slayer Megadeth and twisted sister combined. I LOVE rock and metal and I found this interminable
Neil Young & Crazy Horse
2/5
Boomer rock. At least it's not the usual whiny stuff we hear from Neil young. I read that these songs are the best takes from a series of jam sessions.... If this is the pick of the bunch god knows what the rest were like
Meat Loaf
4/5
Some songs go on too long but this is still great fun
Sonic Youth
2/5
So trendy

Like most I know the hits. The rest is synthy gated drums cliche 80s. So many bands from this era sound the same, I just don’t get the appeal
The Youngbloods
3/5
Yeah it's fine, another one of those ten a penny albums of this style in the late 60s. Glad to have heard this though
