1001 Albums Summary

It's no surprise why this album is so highly regarded. This is one of the nest examples of soul funk. Really tight bass grooves lead the from the back. Wonderful instrumental orchestration, solid drumming and Curtis Mayfield's high pitch, almost falsetto voice brings it all together.

The album starts off in a very simplistic manner. Droning brum beat then quiet yet dark vocals come in. The album progresses until the hit Games without Frontiers. This album represents the beginning of the minimalistic prog/new wave sound that helped launch Depeche Mode, The Cure and Tears for Fears. Deep lyrics, brooding vocals and shaved down instrumentals abound.

This is THE classic lounge music sound. Perfect background music to unwind to. Soothing instrumental and gentl, melodic vocals. Just nice and relaxing; nothing more, nothing less.

The Yeah Yeah Yeahs are the next evolution in punk. TBH the overpopulation of the vocals gre tiresome quickly for me.

Possibly the front runner for space rock. More because of the ethereal vocals, great guitar work and piano tracks.

Green Day's Dookie was my 1st experience with this iconic crossover band. They mixed pure punk, rock and added a dash of speed metal to create their unique sound. I'm an instrumental fan at heart and rarely listen to lyrics. While I understand American Idiot is considered a classic for their message and critique of the current state of America it is somewhat lost on me. What I can say is the classic "3 chords" formula is in full force and the band sounds tighter that ever.

This album is the definition of American rock. A bit more stripped down then previous releases this album definitely has a more raw edge.

Meh. Shoe gazer meets electronic meets pop with a dash of I don't care.

Honestly no idea how this album was ever recommended. Absolute snore fest. So slow, too stripped down and the singer's voice is garbage. Her vibrato sounds like she's holding back tears and her pitch is just slightly off which makes my skin crawl. Made it to the title track and had to shut it down.

Not my style but definitely a genre defining album. With gangsta rap on the rise and hip hop still at the top Arrested Development blended rap and hip hop with Afro-centri rhythms and just plain old good musicality.

100% not a fan of rap. I'll admit his cadence and word usage to keep the rhyme going are super unique, just not a fan. I also cannot associate with any of his inner demons so nothing.

Again, not a fan of rap. Definitely not a fan of of his nasaly speech. Sounds like me trying to talk after eating 10 lbs of BBQ.

Short album, catching tunes. Never thought this was the guy who wrote a few big time songs. Kinda folks, kinda American Rock. Decent.

Very interesting listen. Starts with classic mid 60s rock then moves to psychedelic rock but then jumps to Delta Blues with 'In the Morning.'

I would categorize the music from this album as almost yacht rock meets doctor office light rock with elevator muzak.

Absolutely amazing. This is the 1st concept album iblve ever heard. A perfect.blend of Brit rock and Prog rock.

A true breakout album. George Michael shows his pop roots but adds a perfect mix of rock and roll. And his passion for each song really comes thru.

It's tough to come out with a truly unique sound and be a borderline genre defining band but Talking Heads managed to mix several sounds to create their own "voice."

This album was super different. When I fistt heard her stuff I was not a fan. She's slowly growing on me.

I do enjoy Radiohead but this album is a little more trippy and synthy than The Bends and OK Computer which for me are their best albums.

Another U2 album that starts off like a greatest hits cd. A lot of their angst is gone and the songs are much softer and not as heavy. Decent but not their best.

Not my style. With that said great beats and intense energy really propel this album.

Now this was good. Nice, gentle floating lyrics, amazing acoustic guitars and just upbeat all around.

Straight up eighties new wave. Solid album with no real stand out songs but no duds either.

Classic British New wave meets shoe gamer. Solid stuff.

Disco is dead, new wave has yet to arrive and hair metal is still in its infancy. Venom put out this album which is the template for Speed and thrash metal. Fast guitar picking, super bright cymbals, phase on the guitar distortion and a bit of growl to the vocals.

Truly one of the greatest albums of all time.

Those was my 2nd album after Michael Jackson's Thriller. Every song is huge!!!

An absolute classic. Run DMC was at the very beginning of Rap and hip hop. Basic sampled beats, some nice scratching and solid lyrics keep this album pumping from start to finish.

The most iconic mainstream heavy rock album of the 80's. When you consider Steven Adler is an amazing time keeper and is the "least" talented musician of the group let's you know just how good this crew was.

Power trio laying down basic, simple beats with straightforward Texas Rock guitar grooves blending southern and mainstream rock. Love that twang.

So not as good as I thought it would be. A lot of bluesy/country style music which I know is their big influences but not what I consider Led Zeppelin

A little too slow and mellow for my tastes but need to give credit where it's due. Neil Young is one of the godfathers. "Old Man" is simply amazing.
