The Sensational Alex Harvey BandDecent album. Iβd listen to more stuff like this but canβt see myself going back to this often.
Decent album. Iβd listen to more stuff like this but canβt see myself going back to this often.
This was my favourite album that came out in 2019, and still one I listen to a lot. This one is in my top 50 albums of all time!
It was okay. First half is quite boring but the second half gets better with songs like People and the closing track Tall In The Saddle. Probably won't ever listen to it in full again.
U2's second best album. Good album with no skips!
It's great to listen to an album which influenced many rock & roll artists to follow. Though it is an enjoyable listen musically, lyrically it's very repetitive. The songs are really short but still manage to feel a little long with some songs.
Not for me. I don't doubt they're a talented band, but even listening to the shorter 1971 version of this album (opposed to the 3+ hour 2014 re-release version), it still feels too long.
I've never gone out of my way to listen to Supertramp before, and I regret it! This album is fantastic. I would give it 4.5 stars if I could. Lots of great tracks on this album, especially the closing track with an epic instrumental lush with saxophone, piano, and drums. I'll listen to this many more times to come.
It's a classic for a reason! It's a fantastic album, however I don't think it's Radiohead's best album. I still prefer In Rainbows and Kid A over Ok Computer.
Started off strong with the first track, but falls off on track 2 & 4. I really do enjoy chameleon and sly but itβs not enough to give this album more than a 3-star rating.
I didn't expect to enjoy this album but I did! The lyrics are fun, and the instrumentasion is fantastic. With that said, there are some boring moments and Nick's vocals aren't the greatest, but nevertheless, still an enjoyable album.
I am an Isaac Hayes fan and I do enjoy this album, but "By The Time I Get To Phoenix" just takes too long to get into. Other than that, fantastic album if you're a soul fan!
This definitely isn't their best. Detroit Rock City is a fantastic song (and is often stuck in my head), but the rest of the album is pretty bad. God of Thunder is one of the worst songs I've ever heard. Many tracks after that are very repetitive and Gene isn't the greatest singer.
Started off strong with the first track, but falls off on track 2 & 4. I really do enjoy chameleon and sly but itβs not enough to give this album more than a 3-star rating.
I really enjoyed this album. Otis has a fantastic voice and the production is stellar event though it's 60 years old. It's amazing how many famous songs were inspired and sampled from tracks on this album.
My wife once tried to make a new brownie recipe. Instead of chocolate chips, she used cocoa powder. I was excited to try them as I still like all the ingredients in the recipe. When I took the first bite, I was shocked. There was no taste. I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it. I didn't know how to feel. That's how I feel about this album. Everything about it I should enjoy. It's my type of music. I like the instruments in the production. Morrissey isn't a bad singer. But nothing clicked for me. At the end of the album I didn't really remember any of it. I didn't feel the need to skip any songs and I wasn't wanting any tracks to be over with, but I also didn't ever say "I want to hear that again!"
While I do really enjoy some of Brian Eno's work, this is just okay for me. There are some enjoyable tracks and some which feel more like filler to make the record 40 minutes long.
This album is awful. Iβm not a heavy metal fan so I wasnβt going into it expecting to love it, but I also wasnβt expecting to hate it this much. The lyricsβ¦are awful. Thereβs very little content in the lyrics, just repetitive swearing and simple rhyming schemes someone in elementary school can come up with. I mainly listen to hip-hop but even most hip-hop artists donβt just swear in their lyrics to βsound coolβ, they use them for other purposes like to add emotion. I think I lost brain cells listening to Limp Bizkit. The only decent parts of the album was the first half of βthe oneβ and DMXβs verse. Now I have to listen to some Lupe Fiasco to regain those lost brain cells.
It was fine. Nothing special stood out. I wouldn't complain if it was on but I wouldn't purposely listen to this album.
I've tried getting into Fleetwood Mac in the past and I just can't. Back in my teens I explored a lot of highly rated music and even purchased a couple Fleetwood Mac albums (not this one). I listened to them multiple times and just couldn't get into it and later gave them away. And I felt the same way about this album. The only song I enjoyed was I Know I'm Not Wrong.
This album has some highs and some lows. Some tracks have some deep instrumentation you can hear with good headphones. Where it lacks though is the progression. Many tracks run LOOOOONG and don't progress into anything more than the first 120 seconds give you. There's some good stuff here but it would have been more impactful at half the length.
Itβs easy listening thatβs for sure. It is quite boring and definitely feels stuck in the 70βs. I wouldnβt go out of my way to listen to it, but if it was playing somewhere I wouldnβt ask to turn it off.
I love britpop but never heard of Ash. After listening to this album, I see why. I'm not sure if it was my cars speakers, but some tracks the vocals sounded completely drowned out by the drums while other tracks sounded properly mixed. However, its low score is mainly because of how bad the vocals are. The lead singer's vocal range is almost non-existent. Lyrics are overly repetitive as well.
It's albums like this that I continue this long journey for. The production on this album is fantastic. While Nick Drake has a more folksy voice which wouldn't normally keep me wanting to listen, somehow it all comes together quite well. I liked this album even more than his first album. I can't wait for the next album!
It's a great album. However for me it seems to lack any memorable moments. I finished the album thinking "well that was fantastic but there aren't any songs I want to go back to". I'll probably go back to this one later and revise this review accordingly.
I don't understand all the love for this album. It's boring. Round & Round (It Won't Be Long) is a lie...it felt like the longest song ever on then to be followed up 9+ minute snoozer...shortly followed by another boring 10 minute track featuring 3 guitar solos which go nowhere.
3.5/5 I'm not a heavy metal fan, but didn't hate this album. The production was way better than I was expecting and the recording sounded very good despite being a 55 year old album. It loses points for me based on the lyrics and vocals.
This album was a pleasant surprise considering the reviews for it. There's a lot of great tracks on this album! They take risks with different sounds (which was surprising for an album from 1967) and it pays off. This does however mean this album does however lack cohesion. There isn't a continuous storyline or continuous type of sound that strings the album together. One second you're listening to a softly sun lullaby type song and then the next you're in a symphony with a harpsichord front and centre. Regardless of that, the majority of the tracks are great and even if you don't like a couple of them, they're very short.
I don't really want to give a Canadian a negative score, especially since how much this album means to his career, but in terms of enjoyability for me personally, this is the most boring album I've listened to so far. The production is actually not bad. It's dark and puts a great emphasis on the theme of the album. The back-up singers in On The Level and the subtle build up in Steer Your Way are highlights. With that said, the back-up signers should never be the biggest highlight on an album. However I just can't find anything enjoyable with Leonard Cohen's vocals here. He tries to sing certain lines and falls behind the tempo. He was better off making a spoken word album to be honest.
Isn't it common knowledge that this is one of the best albums ever made?
There's a lot of great tracks on this album - many of which push the boundaries of Britpop. I can see myself going back to this album again in the future. The only reason why it's a 4 and not a 5 is some of the tracks run a bit longer than they need to.
This is a beautiful album! I would say the first half is a bit better than the second half. Street Life is a gorgeous song even if it is quite a bit repetative and about twice as long as it needed to be.
This album is beautifully produced. The drums, guitars, keys, strings...all incredibly done. It would be a 5/5 if it was an instrumental. Unfortunately it's not. One of the worst singers I've ever heard sings over the gorgeous music and ruins almost every song. There is a track called "Muzzle" which got me excited as I thought maybe the lead singers band mates realize they would sound better if they put a muzzle on the lead singer...but no...he is singing on that song too. To make matters worse, this album is 2 hours long!!!
This is a solid album that feels well thought out. Songs seamlessly blend together to form a cohesive album making it one of those albums you can't just listen to a couple songs from without listening to the entire album. I will definitely revisit this again soon!
Lou Reed is one of those artists I've always avoided because I find his singing quite boring. I didn't clue in the lead singer was Lou Reed until halfway through the album, and this is definitely the best work I've heard from him. With that said, there's no memorable moments on this album that will have me coming back for more.
I'm a huge fan of synth pop but this album didn't stand out to me as much as I was expecting it to. Face Up is the highlight track for me. The other songs don't really do too much to stand out. Elegia is an instrumental which builds up to nothing and then begins to fade out when you're expecting a big crescendo.
Despite being Canadian, my French knowledge isn't great so this review isn't about the lyrics at all. They could be amazing, or they could be terrible...I have no idea. If this album was just "Amsterdam" then it would have been a 5-star album! Amsterdam kicks off the album with a ton of energy...which from there the album can't recover from. The rest of the album (minus the last track) is much slower. I feel like building up and putting Amsterdam at the end would have made this a much more enjoyable experience. 2.5/5
Well that's funny...I listened to this album in full yesterday. I should mention, I own multiple copies of this album on CD and on vinyl, and even have a very rare box set. This is one of the best hip-hop albums of all time by one of the best lyricists. It's absolutely incredible to think this work of art came from the mind of a 19 year old. Every line paints a vivid picture which a tv/movie medium would need to take 20 seconds to paint. You listen to this album and you get a complete sense of where Nas grew up, the people he was around daily, and his ambitions in life. It definitely deserves to be on this list of albums you have to listen to.
Nothing too special here. Sounds like generic rock music from the 2000's.
The first 2 tracks are fantastic. The next 4 are quite boring. Pretty simple review for this album!
While there are some classic songs on The Chronic, it has never been a standout rap album to me. Dr.Dre's production has never done it for me (except for Eminem's early work). Lyrically it's nothing like what was happening on the East Coast at the time...which is what my tastes gravitate to. With that said, this album does have quite a bit of nostalgia for me and is always enjoyable to listen to in the car.
How did this win Album of the Year at the 2019 Grammy's over Janelle Monae's 'Dirty Computer'?
