1001 Albums Summary

Blackstar by David Bowie

Very dark and eerie album aesthetics. The drums and saxophone shined the most through the large array of accompaniment throughout. Bowie’s vocals show age, but used to unique interpolations across the album. ‘Lazarus’ was a standout for sure, but not an album i’ll be revisiting to top to bottom anytime soon.

The Downward Spiral by Nine Inch Nails

Very experimental noisy listen. ‘Closer’ was of course a stand out. Always a banger. But nothing I would revisit

Tracy Chapman by Tracy Chapman

Surprisingly enjoyable listen. A style I wasn’t expecting to enjoy so much. I went in only knowing ‘Fast Car’ and left with the highlight of ‘Baby Can I Hold You’ being my favorite off the album. Good soup.

Dire Straits by Dire Straits

Dad rock city but not my usual brand.

Music for the Masses by Depeche Mode

I can respect the sound and how it paved the way for many artists to come, but it was kind of a drag.

Pretenders by Pretenders

Sonically pretty pleasing. Didn’t realize some of these songs were theirs. Unique vocals. Tracklist is a little bloated, and I didn’t really take any particular track away that i’ll be listening to nonstop.

Brilliant Corners by Thelonious Monk

First time listening to an instrumental piano jazz album. It was neat. Short tracklist that still managed to spill into the north of 40 minutes territory. Nothing sonically stood out like crazy, but i respect it.

Tuesday Night Music Club by Sheryl Crow

A very smooth badass listen. Didn’t expect to enjoy a Sheryl Crown album so much but this joint was nice.

Wild Is The Wind by Nina Simone

The Suburbs by Arcade Fire

Never gave them the deep dive before. Safe to say i probably never will. Just not my speed.

This Nation’s Saving Grace by The Fall

70s punk is not my strong suit and that just proved to be true in spades with this larry right here. A very inconsistent album that I just couldn’t get into. Showed a beacon of hope on track 14 but it never kicked it into second gear. Vocals were always undercooked or drowned out whenever I did get to hear them. Far from my cup of tea.

Led Zeppelin III by Led Zeppelin

Been pretty skeptical about Zeppelin albums with my experiences, mostly due to the length but this was an overall enjoyable projects with some songs I was even able to take away to listen to again in the future.

A little bloated but i love that early 90s hip-hop sound.

Shake Your Money Maker by The Black Crowes

A sound of its time. Good but nothing that stuck out to me

A Seat at the Table by Solange

I’ve enjoyed some work in the past but stylistically this was just okay to me.

what kind of sick joke is it to listen to two arcade fire joints in one week? cmon dude

One World by John Martyn

Better than I expected. Never heard of John before, but I was impressed. Raw unique vocals. Not my favorite album but I can appreciate what it was trying to do.

Blonde On Blonde by Bob Dylan

Not the biggest Dylan fan, especially when it comes to albums. But I can more than appreciation his influence and contribution to the music world. Couple standouts from this guy including my favorite, “I Want You”.

Hot Fuss by The Killers

Love the lead vocals from The Killers. ‘Mr. Brightside’ is one of my favorite songs of all time and to hear the album it came from was pretty neat. ‘Somebody Told Me’ of course another classic.

so fuckin sick. bangers everywhere. all time group. ‘it’s on’, ‘freak on a leash’, ‘dead bodies everywhere’ and ‘seed’ were standouts among an album that fully throughout kicks ass
