Big fan of the overall production of this album, love the slightly jazzy sound of the drums and the atmospheric guitars. Although half of the songs do sound a lot like sultans of swing.
Favourites are down to the waterline, sultans of swing and in the gallery.
Not bad hahhahhahahah no it’s actually alright. I didn’t think Michael Jackson would be my thing but I got some enjoyment out of this album, particularly at the start. I do think bad loses its charm towards the end, along with Jackson’s constant ad-lib screams. And the production has aged impressively badly - I actually thought it was released in the early 70s from the sound of this thing. Maybe that’s the point. I don’t really care
This is my first serious introduction to Queen, and if this is considered to be one of their good albums then I don’t understand how they’re a highly regarded group. It sounds like they’re recording every song standing ten feet away from the microphone, and the only way you can distinguish the confusion of noice is because they pan instruments so far to the left or right. There’s some interesting ideas on this album but they’re executed poorly. It’s not charming, it’s not vintage; it’s just disappointing.
It’s an interesting album. The lyrics are often engaging, the production choices are innovative and the instruments are all given plenty of space. What it lacks in consistency, it makes up for with charisma. I’m not sure I’d return to it, but I definitely enjoyed it.
Although I’ve heard and enjoyed some of his work, I’ve never been a huge Bowie fan, and this is the first time I’ve really listened to one of his albums. I have to say, I’m surprised by how much I liked it. He has a way of bringing songs to life that honestly no other artist does, and this album is absolutely full of personality. The production isn’t particularly fresh or crisp, but it has a special quality, and is fairly impressive for the era of this album. There’s plenty of interesting instrumental choices in this album, and the lyrics always seem to intrigue me. Plus the Andy Warhol song is pretty funny.
An absolutely incredible album. The jazzy elements combine perfectly with the soul feel of these songs, and Curtis’ drug focussed lyrics balance the upbeat sounds with a dark undertone. I’ve not seen the film, or fully dived into the meaning of the lyrics, but I’m more than happy to just listen to this one on repeat and enjoy it.
Favourites are little child running wild, pusherman (I absolutely love those drums) and no thing on me
A band I’d never even heard of before but a great album, there’s probably some skippable moments which is the only reason I’m not giving it 5 stars
It’s been a while since I’ve been less interested in an album
I didn’t enjoy it. I’m not sure if I was meant to
Not my favourite of Bowie’s music, but still interesting. I don’t think I’d return to it
A bit over the top at points but always engaging and interesting
Weirdly I actually see why it’s on this list but I just don’t care for it at all
A bit too much for me but an interesting listen
The doors but not the doors but still good?
I really liked the sound of this album
I can’t imagine a time where this didn’t sound like ass
Loved the first song, the others are a slight drop off but a great innovative album
The first song was alright and I really like the second half of the last song. Apart from that it was complete ass
It’s okay, not really for me though
Some interesting moments but many forgettable ones
It’s cool but the vocals grate on me sometimes
Fantastic album, has some great jazzy elements
Weird but it grew on me. Not sure I’d come back to it
Not bad but quite forgettable
Some good moments but many that I didn’t really care for, and the production hasn’t aged well. It’s interesting if nothing else
I don’t think you’ll find a debut album more measured, purposeful and creative than this one. There’s probably a couple of skips on here, otherwise I’d give it 5 stars
Super jazzy and interesting
I liked a lot of the instrumentals but the lyrics sound like they were written by a 14 year old
Interesting and listenable but not my favourite style of music
I’m not sure this album really makes sense but it’s pretty good, I like the more folky songs and there’s some absolute classics on here
Absolutely abysmal. Had to turn it off after four songs. It would have been okay if he wasn’t singing
Inoffensive but pretty forgettable
A couple of good songs but pretty average. I didn’t hate it
By no means a perfect album but nick drake makes music that no one else can
The music is pretty good at points but I just can’t get over his voice
Good but I also just don’t care that much for it
I’ve never really cared for muse and this album didn’t change my mind. It’s not bad at all, but I don’t think I’d come back to it
Pretty messy at the start but ends up being a really strong album, close to four stars
Very listenable but nothing special - I might give it another listen at some point
The weakest of their great three album run but still has a lot of incredible moments and songs - ocean of noise is one of my favourites of theirs
Weird but would happily listen again
It’s a solid album, but there’s too many times where I wish they would have a bit more creativity, and the production can feel pretty flat.
It’s a decent album but nothing really grabs my attention
First song is good but the album becomes a bit repetitive after. Not a bad listen at all though
Surprisingly I really liked this. Some filthy bass in there
He’s kinda smooth but it didn’t really do much for me
This might have been good if I was hearing it live in a pub about 200 years ago
Interesting but pretty weird. I liked the first song
This would be a decent album if the production wasn’t so awful
It’s listenable but nothing special
It’s okay but not something I’d return to, and the singer grates on me
Not bad but it didn’t grab my attention too much. A lot more listenable than I thought it would be
I really liked the long song. The others were pretty good too
It had some moments but largely pretty uninteresting
For some reason I didn’t think this would be good but I liked a lot of the songs on here, especially the last one
Smooth but I wouldn’t say it was anything special
Apart from the good song I can’t think of a single reason as to why this album is on this list. Good song saves it from a 1 star
Interesting but I don’t think it’s something I’d come back to
It’s messy and the production can sound a bit dated but bjork is creative enough that it doesn’t really matter
Cracking. You can tell he’s Jeff’s dad
He’s a bit over the top but it’s not actually bad
I thought it was gonna be trash once he started singing but it was actually pretty listenable
Pretty chill album with some good moments
She could have tried to sing properly at least once
I just find this album a bit annoying really
Pretty good nothing crazy
Easily one of the best rap albums of all time
Listenable but wasn’t doing too much for me
I actively hated listening to this
I really just didn’t get on with the vocals. Apart from that not too bad
Pretty conflicted on this. A lot of the instrumentals were good and it had a decent flow, but some of the lyrics were abysmal
Classic album with great drumming - Alex turner isn’t annoying in this one either
Great drumming and a unique sound but it does get a bit samey
Not as bad as I initially thought, but it’s not something I’d ever choose to listen to
Probably the only metal album I’ll ever like
Pretty crap really. I guess it’s not terrible
First couple of songs were good but it didn’t do much for me after. Not really sure why it’s on this list
As with all of LCD’s albums, the PRODUCTION is great, and there’s some really good songs on here
There’s a few good songs on here so it just about gets a 4, but there’s quite a few I’d skip
Not doing much for me, just a bit dull really
Alright but pretty boring
Mid as hell. 1 good song though
Pretty fun. I like it. Don’t know what the bloke’s saying though
Some good songs on here. Jesus was pretty terrible though
It’s actually okay just not something I’d ever listen to
Pretty good but I still don’t quite see why it’s such an iconic album. Just about gets four stars
Some decent songs and some bad. The pink floyd cover is unforgivable though
The more I listen to the Beatles the more I realise they’re just not very good
