Reviews (page 8 of 8)

È brutto? No. Avrei potuto sopravvivere senza ascoltarlo? Molto probabilmente.

allright a bit boring

Ned so meins. Ganz nette orgelsoli sonst bissl egal

Pretty bland really. Ran it in the background a few times over the weekend and nothing grabbed me. Not offensive, not remarkable.

Songs: Darkness, Darkness; Quicksand

I think I like the band name more than the music. It's pretty average 60's rock. Nothing remarkable, but it's got some decent little jams here and there.

Pretty good. Never heard it before. 2/5

Hi: Darkness Darkness, Sham Lo: On Sir Francis Drake, Turn It Over, Black Mountain Breakdown What if the Beatles and Steely Dan were a jam band? This is the vibe I get from The Youngbloods, with a little elevator music/adult contempo. None of it unpleasant, quite inoffensive. No real standout tracks, a few that I actively disliked. I'm glad to have heard it, but probably won't be returning.

This album is something you could play if your mother in law was coming for dinner. I didn't say it was boring but the music is certainly unobtrusive. This album would also be a good choice if you had a need to play something with a 60s sound that nobody knows. These are clearly not ringing endorsements.

If I was in the que for a beer on a sunny day, some where next to the water. I'd here this tap my foot and smile, I'd take the drinks back to the table and say to my wife. "Nice music" she'd ask if I wanted to buy the CD which the band had displayed for a fiver. "Nah" I'd say and we'd never discuss them again.

Darkness, Darkness y Quicksands

This was ok to, glad i had a listen.

The opening track promised so much, the rest of the album delivered so little. Impressed by their ability and range as musicians but I won’t be revisiting

Dreamy 60/70s rock, didn't really go anywhere

Fairly non event and a-phenomenal. Nut it out over how it made the list. Not awful

Boring as hell. Essential my ass. 3-4/10

A weird blending of genres throughout, with some folk-rock, psychedelia, and a few jammy instrumentals throughout. A little all over the map for my tastes, but by no means bad.

Not for me this one

I sometimes like this genre -- which I guess I'd call American folk-rock, or something like that, maybe almost "jam band" but not quite to my ear -- and this album isn't bad; it just didn't really bring me fully in. It has some moments I liked, such as the jams in "Beautiful" and "Trillium."

Easy and quick album to get through - also has a ton of Beatles influence but obviously not as good. Somewhat forgettable. 5/10.

I can't even tell what genra this is, but I know it's dull

Sounded like a little bit of Janis Joplin

Love Jessie Ollons Young's voice. 2 1/2

Saved Prior: None Off Rip: Darkness, Darkness; Smug; Quicksand; Ride the Wind Cutting Edge: None Overall Notes: The most inconsequential, random album on this list to date. I can only assume that it was added to give them an easy and uncontroversial album to take off when they have to add new albums when they release an updated version. It's not bad, in fact some of these songs are pretty good. It's just not must-hear.

I enjoyed Smug and Don't let the rain bring you down but I lost interest in between. Tinny lead guitar sound was off putting in places too. I would've enjoyed darkness darkness more if the guitar was lower in the mix and not drowning out the vocals. Also some odd choice of vocal delay on that track. Not awful but as a whole it was just OK rather than good 2*

Was okay. Mostly boring, but 2 or 3 really good funky songs.

Couldn't get into it

Boring

Ooft. Not the best. I liked that it was a whole bunch of musical styles, but didn’t really like most of those styles.

@@½. Quite easy listening, but a bit boring.

It was fine-- fun; fine.

24h myöhemmin en muista levystä mitään. Ei siis ainakaan ärsyttänyt...

starts good then gets so mediocre

It's nice to hear a bit more from the musical world dominated by the Dead... but not necessary in my life now.

Good album.

Not really into the folk music

no lo termine

Booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooring.

When people talk about how great the 60s were it isn't rubbish like this they're talking about.

This is not a mountain i would like to scale again anytime soon. Chock full of average songs. The aural equivalent of watching paint dry.

Well it's from 1969, so i'll not be so cross but this was terrible.

I listened to this a few days ago and didn't give it a rating. Forgot I had, and then listened to it again today thinking I hadn't heard it before. That tells you everything.

Nope.....B side is better than the A side but that ain't saying much. Not my cup of tea...

Garbage 60’s music that should be erased from history

This is something I should have liked, but I found it really boring.

Bad terrible boring

70er - was haben die geraucht?

This is the 161st album I’m rating. I feel like this is going to be awful. Adding to my Playlist - Smug, On Sir Francis Duke, Beautiful, Don't Let the Rain Bring You Down, Trillium, and Sham. Not Adding to my Playlist - Darkness, Darkness, Sunlight, Double Sunlight, Turn It Over, Quicksand, Black Mountain Breakdown, and Ride the Wind. All in all I liked 6/13 songs. This isn't as bad as I thought it would be but it isn't good either.

Great voice. Weak songwriting.

Did not enjoy. Too many instrumental parts.

Very long and repetitive, wasn't very impressed

Bland 60's country rock(?). Roots rock? I dunno. Nothing grabbed me. Just another boring album. Maybe back then it was attention grabbing.

Elephant Mountain by The Youngbloods was a completely new listen for me, and I was curious to see what it had to offer. There were a few moments that stood out—especially the opening track “Darkness, Darkness,” which I really enjoyed, and “On Sir Francis Drake,” which had its own charm. However, the rest of the album felt disjointed and lacking direction. Many tracks came across as odd or meandering, without any real payoff. Overall, the album doesn’t have any standout tracks or recognizable hits. Most great albums tend to have at least a couple of memorable songs they’re known for, but Elephant Mountain felt mostly forgettable. It left me with a pretty lukewarm impression. Favorite track: "Darkness, Darkness" Least favorite: Pretty much the rest of the album Album artwork: The cover is cool, at least.

After a long stretch of listening to various different genres, we're back to what this is list has to offer the most: Boring late-60's/early-70's bluesy and/or folky psych-rock. And yet another artists never heard from again outside of the context of the book. I already knew exactly what this was going to sound like without hearing a single note of it. In one ear and out the other.

Tearing paper in half would be more exciting that listening to this album 1001 album worthy: No - 11/22

What is this? It's not something you absolutely "MUST Hear" before you die, I can tell you that. I guarantee that as soon as I'm done with this review and rating I will never think about this album again in my life.

Boring and nothing new or inspiring

This is OK, but I kinda think if I wanted this sort of light country folk, America and Crosby, Stills and Nash are right there. Not quite sure what it's doing on this list. On Sir Frances Drake starts off well and then goes into the self-indulgent noodling that I hate. Ride The Wind - the worst kid of elevator music. So...no, it's not OK, it's mostly shit.

I’m glad this is on the list. I don’t care for it at all, but I can tell these guys need a win.

60’s

First listen Saved 1/13 Top track: Darkness, Darkness

Its ok. Feels like the guess who sometimes

Boring. Tedious. Repetitive. How many ways can I say bad 60's folk crap that the list seems to love?

Too folk rocky for my tastes. Quite enjoyed some of the jazzier moments, but they never got adventurous enough .

this was incredibly boring. Favorite track: Sunlight

In a nutshell: lazy Byrds meets CSNY. An uninspiring and mostly bland combo psychedelic rock/folk/country rock. This could have been good. It’s not. I don’t hear anything different or new compared to other albums released in the late sixties that can be found on the 1001 Albums list. Save your time. Listen to Crosby Stills Nash and Young instead. Overall: 2/10

1969. Strong first 20 seconds leading into a disappointing, much more boring album.

Eh, meh.

Boring

This reminds me of the time when I was younger and thought I'd take a dip into jazz music. I could hear talented musicians, but I had no idea what they were trying to say. Elephant Mountain was like that.

Waste of time. Only Sham is worth listen.

Rock? Folk- rockmaybe, although given that they're American, country-rock is probably more appropriate. And they try to be funny on some tracks, but fail miserabvly. I can understand why I've never heard of this band before.

This shit was SOFT, even for me. They're like a way shittier version of America.

ew I hate it

Surprised on how terrible this album was...there was nothing appealing about it. 1/5

thought they were a rock band, nope a jazz outfit

i don't like it

Meh….

This music was not pleasing to my ears.

Started off kind of liking then went so country-soft soft soft rock I couldn't even listen

I'm 50 seconds into the first song and i fucking hate it. I'm not going to continue. Fun fact - The Youngbloods once broke the 100m World record

c'est chiant comme les blés

I was kind of hoping for something more folky here, but this seems more like your grandpa's favorite jam band. Maybe this stuff works better live and with the benefit of drugs, but the closest I've come to seeing a jam band live was the last time I saw Primus a few years ago and they felt compelled to make every one of their classic songs an extra 8-10 minutes long, and simultaneously infinitely worse because of it. So I'm gonna have to pass on these young, bloods.

Not really my box of chocolates.

I got really bored.
