This has to be the kind of album "you had to be there" to appreciate. There's nothing here that makes it set itself apart from anything that ever was and has been since. Do we, in the year of our lord 2024, really need to hear this before we die? Probably not. Key tracks: Nick of Time

This album completely baffled me. I quite the garage rock revival bands of the 00's like The Strokes, The White Stripes, etc., but this album is just so utterly bad I couldn't even fathom. The vocals are all over the place in the worst way, with the backing vocals clashing with the lead vocals as if these songs were recorded in just one take with very shitty equipment. The instrumental are not too bad, but they're so painfully generic. And I couldn't remember I single note of what I had just heard, only that I didn't like it. The kind of garage rock that should never have left the garage.

Magnificent, stunning, the definition of a hidden gem. I had not heard of The Blue Nile before going through the book and they have since become a favorite of mine, too bad their output is so scant at only 4 albums. This one and their follow-up Hats (1989) are their best, with their city night atmosphere, impeccably written songs, and Paul Buchanan's tremendous vocals. There aren't many singers capable of tugging on my heartstrings quite like Buchanan does, and it's always a joy to hear him whenever he pops up on other artists projects, be them with Peter Gabriel, Craig Armstrong, or Jessie Ware. Key tracks: A Walk Across the Rooftops Tinseltown in the Rain Stay Heatwave Automobile Noise

So many songs, but so many highlights. I really enjoyed this one. It was a strange mix of prog and pop that works incredibly well. Great arrangements. Key tracks: Turn to Stone It's Over Sweet Talkin' Woman Mr. Blue Sky

Despite being so long and having benefited from some trimming, this is actually a great pop album. Very cool application of older styles of music such as Jazz, Blues and Soul into a modern day Contemporary R&B and Dance Pop frame. Needless to say, top notch vocals too. Key tracks: Ain't No Other Man Here to Stay Candyman Hurt
