So bad it wasn't even on Spotify
Dit moet ik zelfs niet luisteren om een 10 te geven. Vanaf 'Rehab' tot 'Addicted', Back To Black is een perfect album. De productie is top, natuurlijk dankzij Salaam Remi en Mark Ronson. Back To Black, het nummer, is een ultieme classic, Tears Dry On Their Own een blijtschijfke, You Know I'm No Good een meezinger, Wake Up Alone is tekstueel diep en dan heb je zelfs nog Rehab, de grote hit en Love Is A Losing Game, een fan's favorite.
You Shook Me voelt een beetje overbodig. Decent einde met How Many More Times, dat aanvoelt als een bluesnummer met hardrockeinde. Algemeen een goed en vrij gemakkelijk te beluisteren album.
Perfect album, mooi samenhangend geheel.
Het album natuurlijk van Paint It, Black en Under My Thumb.
It's very weird to write something about this album, not only because I had already listened to it, but because I don't have my mind made up about this album. On one hand, three negative points: - it's certainly not the best Elliot Smith album - I don't remember any standout songs - I don't listen so hard that I understand the lyrics. This album deserves a deeper dive than a one-time listen. On the other hand, it's just good. It flows. It soothes you like a warm bath. The voice of Elliott is just amazing and this is a perfect winter album.
Not at all the best work of Bruce and actually quite skippable. This does also not feel as an embodiment of the 2000s, like Yankee Hotel Foxtrot or so does way better. I understand the USA needed something after 9/11, but this is not as important as some Americans probably like it to be. Best tracks and actually standouts are of course the title track and Waitin' On A Sunny Day. I still give 3 stars because it is a good album and Bruce is a genius, but this doesn't come near Born In The U.S.A. or Born To Run.
The album of Gimme All Your Lovin' and Sharp Dressed Man is my 8th album. I must say, every ZZ Top sounds like a ZZ Top song it's both good and bad in my opinion: listening to a ZZ Top album feels like listening to the same song 11 times. ZZ top makes great songs though. The second half of the album felt a bit weirder, with longer instrumental pieces that weren't that hard. I don't think this album is such a classic album and thus deserves 3 stars.
This is my 9th album. I saw the beautiful, breathtaking cover and already knew I would give 5 stars, but listening to it felt nice again. I will probably give every Nick Cave album here 5 stars, because they're all amazing. Nick Cave is a poet, a God and overall someone who understands grief, sadness and love at suc a deep level. Ghosteen is for some people his best -or one of- work. I understand that, though I disagree. Bright Horses is monumental and beautiful, like the Colosseum in Rome or so, but the rest of the album does not have a standout song in my opinion. With more easygoing songs, I would give this album probably 6 stars, but it's not an easy one to listen to, partially due to the length. 5 stars. And I recommend listening to Bright Horses to everyone here.
Not bad, nothing special. This was my 10th album.
Norah Jones deserves to be on this list with this album. Come Away With Me is an important album and probably one of the best albums of the 00's. She has a new take on jazz, soul and does something groundbreaking: she has hits in the zeroes with simple songs (with instruments and her voice). This album does feel a little bit outdated though and it does not click enough for me, so that's why I give 4 insteds of 5 stars. My 11th album
not special
Decent album and a nice introduction to a band I didn't know yet. The music makes me think about at least a dozen other bands. It doesn't give off an 80's vibe, which is kinda special. It just doesn't click for me enough though.
This is absolutely a pleasant listen, with many hits on one album (including the really famous 'We Are Family'). This does feel very outdated and not more special than music from ABBA or Donna Summer, contemporaries who do the job better in my opinion. 3 stars.
Doolittle is a perfect album. Doolittle is the sophomore album from Pixies. From the basslines of Kim Deal (Debaser!) to the lyrics of Frank Black, some funny, some smart, this is a nice group project and an absolute must-listen. It's also quite easy to listen to in my opinion, due to the nice riffs and short length of the songs and album as a whole. I remember in 2020, when I listened a lot to this album during the lockdown. It is crazy that only now, in 2024, I will see Pixies live for the first time during de Lokerse.
I didn't really know Allman Brothers band, but it sounds very American, oldtimey and the songs/jams on this live album are, frankly, too long and sometimes boring. 2 stars.
Decent ZZ Top album, definitely worse than Eliminator and only special because of La Grange. Thanks to that song, I give this 3 stars.
Joni Mitchell has amazing albums, but this feels skippable in her discography. The best song in my opinion is the opening track and there are beautiful harmonies, but it doesn't match Blue in any way. 3 stars.
There was a time where songs were easier and had only one theme: girls. The lyrics on this album are really dull and absolutely forgettable (also, they were empty when we get to Randy Scouse Git). That being said, the music is decent 60's rock 'n' roll. This is my 20th album and I feel like this is again an album that is way more important for the American context than for the European.
The opening track made my Belgian heart very proud. Decent album.
Hard album to rate, because this is a solid 9/10. It's an album packed with hits and sublime outtakes, but this is clearly not the best work of The Boss: that's Born To Run. But do I'm On Fire, Dancing In The Dark, Glory Days and My Hometown deserve to be punished by 4 stars?
Oldschool hiphopalbum. It actually sounds like an important work, but it does not really much for me.
This was quite enjoyable and short.
Of course I already have listened to Physical Graffiti. Negative point is of course that this is a double album and takes quite long (over 80 minutes). Led Zeppelin is not and will never be my favorite classic rock act, but I can see that they're important for music history. I personally do believe thay have better albums though. Kashmir slaps.
Not the best Radiohead album, but still quite ok.
I'm going to write a lot, but after all: 'Words are very unnecessary, they can only do harm.' Album 27 is my 6th 5 stars album. It's very simple: it's not really goth, it's not really rock, it's not really pop, it's just 100% Depeche Mode at its peak. As I'm writing this, I'm of course also thinking about the Depeche Mode concert I saw, with a nice live rendition of 'Enjoy The Silence', absolute classic on this album, but also 'Policy Of Truth' and 'Personal Jesus' stood out in the set. A single negative point is that most tracks are quite long and the full ending of Enjoy The Silence is quite weird.
Buh, not my cup of tea. It's too long, there's really not much happening and I don't understand the lyrics. svefn-g-enflar is iconic, the rest is absolutely forgettable.
#29 Joan for the win. I absolutely adore Love And Affection, it's such a beautiful little thing, like a squirrel or sth, I just want to grab and hold it and hug it.
Soft folky album.
Kate Bush is one of the most amazing female singer-songwriters ever. Tracks like The Sensual World and This Woman's Work are standouts and absolute bangers. 4 stars because this is however not close to Hounds of Love or her debut. One month! (31)
I absolutely adore Fairytale Of new York, it's apart from Christmas also an absolutely banger. The rest is Irish folk music: not completely my stuff. As I'm writing this, the death of Shane is 6 months ago.
Weird background noise. One star extra for the cha cha, that was fun.
buh
Was weird, from the first scream on.
There are very good songs on 'All Things Must Pass', like the title track and of course the absolute classic My Sweet Lord. But it is simply too long to be a 4 or 5 star album, towards the second disc/half, it all felt like too much. 28 songs is really too much.
Good Times, Bad Times, Babe I'm Gonna Leave You en Dazed And Confused zijn classics die ik al goed kende. Your Time Is Gonna Come in het midden is een specialleke, eerst een organ-intro van een minuut en dan een zeer meezingbaar refrein. You Shook Me voelt een beetje overbodig. Decent einde met How Many More Times, dat aanvoelt als een bluesnummer met hardrockeinde. Algemeen een goed en vrij gemakkelijk te beluisteren album.
Fantastic 4 star album, but not 5 stars, because you also have Low, Hunky Dory, Ziggy Stardust, Station To Station and each one of them are better as an album and more coherently.
Decent hiphop album! Fight the power!
It is hard to fit my love for Tusk in this small piece. Tusk is always the 'after-Rumours', but it is so much more. It is ons of the most bold, experimental rockalbums at the time (and also the most expensive ever made). There are absolute beautiful and haunting Stevie songs on this album (Sara, Storms, Angel), little pop-pearls from Christine (Over&Over, Think About Me, Brown Eyes) and you even have the anger from Lindsey (Not That Funny, Tusk...). This all makes it a strong Fleetwood Mac album, each strength underlined in many songs. It is for me also one of (or maybe the) best double album all-time. It is a shame there are only 2 Fleetwood Mac albums on the list of 1001, because there are other important albums from the band.
Respect is one of the most important tracks ever made. The rest makes an important and classic soul album.
#42 is an album I had already listened to. The covers are fine.
Beggars Banquet without Sympathy For The Devil would probably have been really dull and not worthy of this list. Far from the best Rolling Stones record in my opinion. Almost 2 stars.
Very unique listen and still, all tracks feel like 100% ELO. Mr Blue Sky is an absolute standout, from the beginning on, but this whole album is quite enjoyable. Viva Jeff Lynne.
This was very surprising and eye-opening. I don't like many singles from Stevie, but this album was quite wonderful.
bwah. I have nothing with Deep Purple (Child In Time is a classic, but highly overrated). Live albums are also aways weird; because it's always better if you're really there.
#47, decent live album with of course the smash hit 'Show Me The Way'. Funnily, yesterday was the live album of Deep Purple and this one made more sense to me.
Nice, easygoing jazz album.
#49 is a new wave classic. Hungry Like The Wolf, Save A Prayer and Rio are classic new wave songs. The whole album feels right and is quite fun to listen to.
My 50th album is a modern classic. I am very close to giving this a 5 star rating, but it doesn't get better than the two opening tracks and their fenomenous blending.
This has Dancing Queen. This has Knowing Me, Knowing You. This has Why Did It Have To Be Me. This has Fernando. This has hidden gem 'Arrival'. 5 stars.
Skylarking is a fine new wave album. Dear God is massively better than the rest though!
I see this cover and I immediately give 5 stars. Coincidence will have it I listened just yesterday to this absolute classic. It's unbelievable that this album is already more than 50 years old - except for 'A Man Needs A Maid', lol. The title track, Old Man, The Needle and The Damage Done (and the wonderful transition into Words), Heart Of Gold of course and Out On The Weekend are my favourites. Then you even have There's A World, of which Sufjan Stevens made a wonderful cover for his latest album. Perfect album.
This was ok. Not really my style but good.
I felt really nothing while listening to this.
'This looks horrible', was my first thought. This has so few streams that it's possible only people from this site listen to it. Expectations were low. However, it did not disappoint.
buh. I have nothing with the Beastie Boys.
Another day, another album that does not tingle anything in my body.
I love the voice of Tom, but this album is definitely not his best work. Jersey Girl is a standout.
Not really an album?
Pleasant, not special.
#62 SHE CAN START TO WALK OUT IF SHE WANTS I got warm memories of the Suede show I saw over 1 year ago. I absolutely adore So Young, it's an amazing song. Love the cover. An absolute britpop classic in my eyes, and maybe even more important than some other contemporaries.
This is Ray Charles. An important album, an undeniable classic, but it not tingle my senses so it's 3 stars.
This album was quite long and is not my cup of tea.
A few weeks ago, Anohni and the Johnsons were on Gent Jazz. I never heard of them and they sold out. Now I understand a little bit better why: this was a very nice soul(?)/pop album.
With R.E.M. being such a classic 90's band, you would almost forget they had a lengthy career before 'Automatic For The People' and 'Losing My Religion'.
Now this is a live album.
that was a lot of the n-word
I like Steely Dan. Rikki Don't Lose That Number has such a nice bass riff.
I have nothing with Thin Lizzy
Janis Joplin is so amazing. I adore her cover of Summertime, Piece Of My Heart is a classic and I Need A Man To Love Me is also just extremely good. Then you even have the wonderful progrock of Ball And Chain. Amazing album.
Not the best Aerosmith album!
Just a bunch of covers mainly, so not bad but also really not important
It's really ok, but why? There are at least 40 Belgian albums better than this, but hey
I absolutely adore the voice and style of Marc Bolan. It takes not long to get into this album, because the first notes of Metal Guru are spot-on for me. The problem is it is a super strong opener and this T.Rex album does not keep the same leven for the rest of the songs. But it is one of the best glam rock albums!
Not my kinda vibe.
Undeniable classic. I adore the title track, but every song is a little masterpiece. Thanks to my parents, I knew 'Walk Of Life' best before I listened the first time years ago. One of my favorite albums of all time.
Not special and too long
Not special, but Atlantic City is a positive standout.
Parallel Lines is at this point my 3rd most listened to album of all-time. That is thanks to the amazing singles but also the perfect blend of styles: from disco and punk to the start of new wave, this album has many wonderful things. I also absolutely adore Debbie Harry and Chris Stein of course. 5 stars, undeniable classic.
Very old-timey rock 'n' roll, maybe a little too? But it had the legendary song 'Mannish Boy', so it deserves 3 stars.
Not really my thing
More than 100 samples? Really?
Everybody must get stoned! Stuck Inside Of ..., Sad-Eyed Lady ... and I Want You are three of my absolute favorite Bob Dylan tracks. Absolute classic album and easily one of the best Bob Dylan albums.
Morrissey being a prick (the 40-minutes version) The Smiths are better, but there were some decent songs
#86 is an album I had already listened to. It's an important piece that clearly draws from jazz influences. I think it's a little too much instrumental for me, I like Zappa's bizarre lyrics. Still a decent and important work.
I have absolutely nothing with reggae music. This doesn't sound like it needs to be on this list (maybe the live album from Bob Marley deserves it more?)
why?
Too long (again), but The Who is not 1 star material. Very dull though.
Very nice 80's pop album.
Very nice, but not the best CCR album. Keep On Chooglin is nice and Proud Mary keeps on being one of their ultimate classics. Viva John Forgerty!
Actually not so bad. Lovefool is well known of course, daring cover of Ozzy also on this album!
I like the jazzy style of this album. It is a classic, with some important voices and tracks.
Nice classic album. Paradise By The Dashboard Light remains a classic forever.
Alone Again Or is a classic track, but the rest is not as special.
Perfect soul album, but it's not really one of my personal favourites.
Not really my thing
Damn!! I have this album on cd at home, and I never listened to it. Of course I already knew 'You Oughta Know' and 'Ironic'. But this album blew my socks off. I actually really enjoyed listening to her voice, the female rage and yes, I really do think IT'S LIKE RAIINNNN - jokes aside, I do think it's a masterpiece of the 90's.
A 4 star album with Into My Arms, so it's actually 5 stars.
Why is this part of the 1001? It's not bad, but it's just not special.
Great live album with classic tracks
It's a Taylor Swift album. To me, many songs sound the same and the album doesn't excite or surprise me in any way. That being said, there are some standouts, like 'Willow' and the voices of Bon Iver and Matt Berninger are welcome.
Not the best Doors album, but very solid and with classic Roadhouse Blues
Fine album, but without some lyrics it feels really dull after some time.
It's one of the few vinyl LP's I have and it's one I cherish deeply. Shelter From The Storm, Idiot Wind and Tangled Up In Blue are absolute masterpieces of Bob and the whole album is just great. My favourite album of the master.
ok
I do not like the voice of the Pet Shop Boys, but it was an uplifiting album with alternative 90s music.
A perfect album with some of the most mythical lyrics of Jim and some perfect songs, like L.A. Woman
Boulder To Birmingham stands out. The rest of the album contains lots of covers and is really country, not my favourite genre.
I didn't know who they were. I thought. I absolutely hate the 2 most famous covers of Simon And Garfunkel songs and this makes me want to give a bad score to this album.
I did not listen to them ever, but I get why they were one of Kurt Cobain's favourite bands.
It's a nice Bruce album, but not one of his best.
Intervention, No Cars Go and My Body Is A Cage are all amazing songs on one of the best albums of Arcade Fire.
I had zero expectations and it was actually an ok album with a nce voice.
I'm getting really tired of these cover albums
Another weird album. I heard from Stereolab the first time when they were on the soundtrack of 'One Day' and I like 'Lo Boob Oscilator', but the album of today was kinda hard to listen to.
jazzy!
buhhhhhhh
This is such a good album, I don't even care what she sings
pfrt
I don't really like Queen and this is an album with almost 0 hits. I do like some songs from later in their discography. This album does not much for me.
I CAN'T LIVEEEEEEE BEDIEBOEDIBOEDABOE
More Than A Feeling is a wonderful track. This album starts with one of the most nostalgic songs ever, but the rest is more classic rock that does not much for me actually. Important album though!
I love the hard, youthful style with which Sonic Youth plays. I love other singles more, but the album was good overall with few standouts - negative or positive.
Fantastic album. I adore 'deep cut' Mardy Bum, but the big hits (When The Sun Goes Down and I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor) are amazing too. I adore the raunchy style on this album.
Some impressive tracks take the album to a higher level.
I actually think this is the album I personally most associate with 'britpop'. Damon Albarn is a mastermind and he proves it with an album with amazing singles. A very strong 4.
Not very special
Amazing jazz album with ultimate classic 'Take Five'.
Very nice and smooth hiphopalbum. I don't understand all the rhymes, but it slaps.
Not special, but it has some fantastic classics. I love 'Dream On' most of Aerosmith, but that isn't on here.
I am a Garbage fan now. Stupid Girl is such a mastertrack.
I don't like the song 'Blitzkrieg Bop' (I just heard it too much) and to be fair, all the other songs sound quite the same. Punk can be smart, or punk can be the Ramones.
Not important or memorable.
I love 'Charlie Big Potato', it's one of the best songs of Skunk Anansie. Important britpop/grunge crossover album.
Yeah Metal(lica)! One is an amazing track.
I have something against the voice of the frontman.
Porcupine is a decent album, but this really doesn't belong in the 1001 albums list. EATB has like at least 1 much more important and timeless album.
I like the vibes of LCD Soundsystem very much! All my Friends is a bop.
Fantastic album. From the first riff of Big Exit, to 'I can't believe life's so complex', this album is full of little surprises, nice details and hits. And this is not even the best PJ album.
Nice progressive rock album from a wonderful band.
Very important britpop album with the amazing classic 'Common People'.
Fine 80's album.
Very, very, very vibey, but not really my gig.
I really can't remember whether I listened to this. So, that's telling, right?
Very nice, but not the best songs of New Order (it's Blue Monday, yk).
It's jazz. It's nice, smooth, but not more than 3 stars.
Steely Dan but it's Donald Fagen so it's not really Steely Dan anymore but still Steely Dan.
weird! african!
This is some of the best jazz in the world.
It's one of the better albums of Queen.
did not do it.
Karma Karma Karma 3 stars!
Not the best Radiohead album, kinda blunt really.
I had no expectations, but it was actually quite enjoyable.
This was really flat and dull.
I feel like i moved past The Smiths, but it's still good music, thx to Rourke & Marr. Morrissey is still an arsehole. Girlfriend in a coma is without a doubt the best song.
Fantastic. I'm going to play this more.
not my vibe, opening track was good though
see previous review I guess?
Classic album. Bit long for me and absolutely not the best of The Who.
No. Why is this here? Really?
A very special album that deserves many stars, but still doesn't hit me personally. Icons of shoegaze though.
It has been some time since I gave 5 stars. Joni deserves it for this masterpiece. It's Joni at her best. It is sad and happy and emotional and just very good.
Decent, but as background or so.
What's better than one The Who album in a week? Two The Who albums in a week! My Generation is a super track, but also a meh album.
Fine album, a little surprise to be honest.
This experimental rock album of Neil Young is a must-listen from one of my guitar heroes.
Blunt
One of the most important Prince records, but this is just too long for me. I loveeeee many songs on this record, especially the title track, but there is also some filler material in my opinion.
Urban Hymns is a classic, an undeniable britpop masterpiece. But the voice of Richard is becoming boring after a good amount a time, and this album is just 2 or 3 tracks too long to be honest.
Kinda cool progrock album!
Classic punk album. Self Esteem just stays a classic!
Classic album with many amazing songs. It is really just not enough for me to give 5 stars.
I can see why this is on here, but Tom Petty is just not my favorite singer or guitarist and this is also not his best album imo.
Cars and it's the same but there's like 15 versions of it so it's not.
Certainly not the best Talking Heads album and to be fair actually quite forgettable.
Is this the fourth time The Who or the third? I don't care, this shouldn't be here.
It does nothing for me, once again.
?
This was actually quite nice, but I still think this is not the best The Kinks album.
Swingy!
So bad it wasn't even on Spotify
why
Is this the perfect pop album? The blueprint of harmonies? Does it have one of the most beautiful lovesongs of all-time (McCartney confirmed)? well, yes
This is quite enjoyable, although I have nothing with Van Halen.
I did not know what to expect, it sounded very grungey. Not my cup of tea, but still decent.
Decent rap album, but it doesn't feel timeless at all to me.
Very good old timey rock 'n' roll album from an important legend.
Hot Fuss sound like timeless indierock and could easily deserve 5 stars, but the lyrics are so dull sometimes and Brandon is just a lil asshole, so I take a star for that.
Fantastic classic from Sade. Hang On To Your Love is actually my favourite.
It is so sad this is on here, because The Beates have at least 8 better albums, so this really takes up a place from another great album from a different artist. That being said, it is a great pop/rock album.
Weird, unnecessary and boring.
Decent, but very old-timey live album.
Crazy I had never listened to this album before. A 90s classic with many amazing songs.
Fantastic live album from the country God!
Good poprock album. My problem with Queen: this is really their most important album (their only one, to be honest). But it stands like a house!
Ok, but not one of the 1001 best albums imo.
The last 4 minutes of this album were, if I recall correctly, just someone banging on the drums as hard as possible.
My #200 is an album from Bob, which is not even close to his best and even this album is good. A little too long though, and that's why I doubted between 3 and 4 stars. But it has Make You Feel My Love, so I give it 4 stars.
