Jefferson Airplane
5/5
Soft 5. This album was enjoyable to listen to! Good instrumentals and fun vocal work. Many songs fell on the "Good but generic" side.
'White Rabbit' carries it heavy for me and takes the fave slot.

KISS
5/5
I liked the album overall. Lotta variety, great instrumentals, great vocals.
That said, can't figure out why I don't love KISS. Maybe it's the dichotomy offered by the way they dress vs. the songs they make? But it just seems fitting despite that.
'Beth' was my fave here.

Björk
5/5
Fun, ethereal, a bit surreal at times. This was cetainly an experience! Instrumentals were interesting, vocal work very nice and emotional.
'The Anchor Song' was my fave.
The Blue Nile
5/5
An interesting album. Instrumentals were surreal and abstract at times, and decent otherwise. The vocals were distant, but emotional at times. I enjoyed listening to this one.
'From Rags to Riches' wins my fave for being so weird.

Doves
5/5
This album slaps! I liked how well the album flowed from one song to another. It got me wanting to listen to the album again and even explore more music from them.
'N.Y.' was my fave. Shoutout to 'Pounding' too.

Stevie Wonder
5/5
This album is extremely well put together for something that is 50 years old. It really felt like a lot of Love went into making it.
'Summer Soft' was my favorite track. It was also fun hearing the OG sample to 'Gangsta's Paradise'
Wouldn't mind revisiting this album again.
(admittedly knew about this album but honestly thought it was Ray Charles who made it)
Bob Dylan
2/5
I am just straight up not a Bob Dylan fan. I do not like his voice whatsoever. It's mostly the intonations more than anything - it sounds like mockery half the time. The instrumentals helps make it tolerable.
'Meet Me in the Morning' and 'Shelter from the Storm' were decent enough.
'Buckets of Rain' angered me the most. It's a beautiful track that's immediately ruined for me with Bob's singing.
I've now listened to a few tracks again. His voice wasn't as grating, but the guitar in 'Buckets of Rain' in particular just sounds like a calmer version of 'In the Summertime' and I can't unhear it and am of the opinion he ripped that riff.
Radiohead
5/5
Album is a vibe. It bleeds 90s heart and sound.
'High and Dry' seems like a fun song to warm up with in Karaoke and was y personal favorite off the album. 'Bullet Proof ... I Wish I Was' seems like it'd be good for Karaoke warmups too.
'Planet Telex' is a standout and a nice opener. I enjoyed the album greatly and am looking forward to re-listening to it in the future.
Radiohead
5/5
Great album and vastly different from The Bends. It was a lot more upbeat and colorful, but also had some slower songs in there.
'Bodysnatchers' was a highlight for me. I also liked 'Jigsaws falling into place'.
Fleetwood Mac
3/5
This was... fine. It didn't have any of the iconic songs I know them for, and most of them sounded samey to me. It's easy, but forgettable listening for me.
'Sara' and 'Storms' were the only notable ones for me, and barely.
Electric Light Orchestra
4/5
I love ELO's sound, and have previously liked 'Mr. Blue Sky' and 'Sweet is the Night', but never fully listened to the full album.
Having done so, I'd have to say - this album was initially maddening. Something about the order of these songs, and how they don't mesh together until 'Standing in the Rain' to 'Mr. Blue Sky' felt weird. It made the vocals sound really off for me.
I've since read up on it and that was intentional given the tape medium it was released in, with blocks of songs making up 2 sides of 2 tapes. I've also given it a second listen.
All said and done, it's further strengthened interest in ELO. They're like a more eccentric Pink Floyd, with a Sci-Fi twist and use of a wide range of instruments and sounds in their tracks. I also enjoyed the second listen a lot more - whether that was the added context or using bluetooth speakers over the headset (or even both) I'm not sure.
After some consideration, I think the sum of the parts is far greater than the album as a whole. Initially, I wavered at a 3-3.5 star rating, but think it's worth a 4. I do feel like the album lacked an overall sense of cohesion, but it's enjoyable otherwise.
'Jungle' is easily the worst song of the batch for me. Just... Why?
'The Whale' was a nice find - I love ELO's instrumentals.
'Mr. Blue Sky' is a banger as usual and I think still the high point of the album for me (especially enjoyed as a set starting from 'Standin in the Rain')
David Bowie
1/5
Did not do it for me. Not a big fan of this one except the last song.
R.E.M.
3/5
This was ok. Easy listening, but overall nothing that stood out too much. Can't help but feel like R.E.M. would have benefited by a singer with more presence.
'Sweetness Follows' was my favorite track.
Hugh Masekela
4/5
This was a good album. The opening song 'Part of a Whole' reminded me of The Sims.
'Maseru' was my favorite from this album.
Alice In Chains
4/5
Good album. I like their sound generally, but sometimes the lead singer can be a bit droney.
'Rooster' was my fave from this track.
Stan Getz
5/5
This album SLAPS. Listening is easy and vibes are good all around.
'Samba Triste' and 'Samba De Uma Nota So' tie for faves.
Doves
5/5
This album slaps! I liked how well the album flowed from one song to another. It got me wanting to listen to the album again and even explore more music from them.
'N.Y.' was my fave. Shoutout to 'Pounding' too.
The Go-Go's
4/5
It was a fun album. I don't love the vocal work, but there were some bangers in there.
'Tonite' was my track of choice.
Nirvana
4/5
The bangers are there, but I couldn't help but feel like I only liked half the album. That said, there were some gems I found in here that were outside of the mainstream stuff, but there were some rough tracks on here, too.
'Drain You' is my fave, closely followed by 'Lithium'.
Elvis Costello & The Attractions
2/5
I had the same problem with this album as I did Bob Dylan. Great instrumentals ruined by subpar vocal work.
'Man Out of Time' was my favorite. I liked 'The Long Honeymoon' too. Just wish they were covers so I didn't have to be subjected to those vocals.
Ladysmith Black Mambazo
2/5
This was aite. Not my cup of tea.
'How Long' caught my ears.
Haircut 100
5/5
This gets a soft 5 stars from me. I actually quite liked the album as a whole and will probably revisit it at some point, but I can't help but feel like something is missing from it.
That said, it was a good experience and I'm glad to have been suggested it.
I'll slot 'Calling Captain Autumn' as my fave here, though there were a lot of tracks I vibed with and ended up saving.
Sigur Rós
5/5
Easy 5 star. Can't understand a lick of the language, but this album spoke to me in a way that invoked a sense of nostalgia and a desire to reminisce about times long past.
It's one of those albums I'd like to revisit, especially with the bass turned up to really feel the music.
'Viðrar vel til loftárása' earns my favorite spot. 'Flugufrelsarinn' and 'Ný batterí' also stood out to me.
Deerhunter
4/5
It was good, but I wasn't particularly hooked. I may revisit this one at some point.
'He Would Have Laughed' wins for my fave from this album.
Alice Cooper
3/5
Good album. May revisit it.
'No More Mr. Nice Guy' takes my fave.
Buddy Holly & The Crickets
4/5
Solid album - one that comes off as a product of its time without much context. Not quite my cup of tea, but I loved the guitar work here.
'Rock Me My Baby' wins the fave for the energy, along with 'That'll Be The Day'
Don McLean
4/5
Darn good album and a classic.
'Vincent' is my fave, but of course 'American Pie' is a banger for karaoke.
2/5
I liked the energy, didn't love the quality and the last 3 songs of the album.
'Rocket Reducer No. 62 - Talk' wins my fave I think. 'Borderline' was good too.
Ian Dury
2/5
This was certainly an album.
No faves here. Gets a bonus star for sounding like something from "Don't Hug Me I'm Scared"
Nick Drake
5/5
Excellent Album. Love the vibe and the excellent instrumentals! 'Day is Done', 'Cello Song', and 'The Thoughts of Mary Jane' were highlights for me!
Frank Sinatra
5/5
GOAT'd album by a GOAT'd artist.
"I've Got You Under My Skin" wins my fave.
The Stone Roses
4/5
Lovely little album. Nice and chill.
'Waterfall' was my fave here.
Bob Marley & The Wailers
5/5
Awesome album! Such a vibethat few other albums can achieve.
'Natural Mystic' takes my fave slot.
Janet Jackson
3/5
Solid album. I liked the variety of slow and fast songs, but I think the layout of the album was a bit weird. A lot of the faster songs used similar instrumentals and sounded samey and a bit long, but they were still pretty fun to listen to.
'Livin in a World (They Didn't Make)' was my personal fave. 'Lonely' and 'Black Cat' were good too.
John Lennon
2/5
Some aspects of this album sounded experimental and unfinished. Some parts were just plain. I wouldn't want to give it another full listen.
'Isolation' was a good song and my fave. 'Hold On' has a great instrumentals as well.
Alice Cooper
4/5
This was a fun album! I really liked the instrumentals here. Vocals not-as-much.
It's a tossup between 'Blue Turk' and 'My Stars' for faves.
5/5
This album slaps! I was already a fan of a few of their songs but never listened to this album in full. Great time all around.
'Champagne Supernova' wins my top pick. Anyway, here's 'Wonderwall'
Nitin Sawhney
5/5
This album slaps! I really like the variety on display here. Some songs felt like they belong in Persona, 'Letting Go' sounded like it belonged in Nier: Automata or Stellar Blade, while others had a drum-n-bass deal going on. I happen to be a sucker for all three.
The first 7 songs, with the exception of 'Pilgrims', were amazing. 'Pilgrims' was a low-point. I don't mind the rap, but the instrumentals suffer, which was a huge part of my enjoyment of the album overall
I liked the composition of the album and the arrangement as well. It does fall off a bit at the end for me, but I'd still give it a re-listen as a whole.
'Tides' takes my fave slot. I'm glad to have listened to this album!
ZZ Top
3/5
This album was fine. ZZ Top was never quite my cup of tea for some reason, so it's no surprise this album fell flat for me.
'La Grange' is a classic though and takes my fave slot.
Ray Charles
4/5
Good album. Ray Charles has a voice that is easy to listen to and steals the whole show. The instrumentals were quite enjoyable as well.
'You Are My Sunshine' wins my fave slot.
Ali Farka Touré
5/5
Excellent album! Really fun instrumentals. I can only hope that I can understand the lyrics one day.
'Soya' and 'Soko Yhinka' are tied for my faves.
Ozomatli
4/5
This was fun! Lotta variety here, but I didn't love the rapping focused tracks.
'Dejame En Paz' was my fave.
Yes
4/5
'Roundabout' unironically hard carries this album. The rest are a good vibe, but were not particularly interesting to me.
To be continued....
Amy Winehouse
4/5
It was a fun album to listen to overall. It was a good vibe - I liked the instrumentals. Amy's voice is wonderful - it's sad she went through what she did.
I enjoyed pretty much every track. That said, nothing in particular stood out for me - hard to pick a fave, but I'll settle for 'You Sent Me Flying / Cherry'
Christina Aguilera
5/5
Soft 5 here. The excellence of Christina Aguilera's singing cannot be understated here. She's amazing in all senses of the word.
I take issue with portions of Disc 2. It has great tunes, but lacks the cohesion Disc 1 seemed to have.
But this album was definitely worth the listen and will definitely be revisited.
Hard to pick a favorite here because I liked so many, but I'll go with 'Ain't No Other Man' and 'Hurt' for Disc 1/2 respectively.
The Dictators
2/5
Not my cup of tea. Just okay overall. No real faves either, but 'I Got You Babe' was fine.
Talking Heads
2/5
This was pretty meh. 'Drugs' was the only one I cared about but the rest was not clicking for me.
Maxwell
3/5
'Whenever Wherever Whatever' was my favorite track. The album was fine otherwise, but didn't quite resonate with me.
The Jesus And Mary Chain
1/5
Approaching this with no context to this band or its importance in the music space, this sounded awful.
After reading some reviews before writing my own, I can get why this took off, but hoo boy does it just not work for me. I disliked feeling like I was listening to this in a hallway.
No faves here.
Jeff Beck
3/5
An OK album. I disliked the mastering, but the tunes were decent.
'I Ain't Superstitious' was my fave on this. I liked both instrumentals too.
Fatboy Slim
5/5
So nice, I listened twice! Fatboy Slim is top notch.
'Right Here, Right Now' wins my fave, though I love the album as a whole.
The Pretty Things
4/5
Bit of a strange one. I quite like the instrumentals, but the vocals weren't quite there for me. I may give this one another chance on some different equipment.
'Old Man Going' was my fave.
Frank Zappa
4/5
Actually quite nice. I didn't love the vocals that were present, but the instrumentals are quite fun to listen to. I could see myself revisiting this one.
'Peaches En Regalia' was quite fun to listen to and wins my fave spot.
The Isley Brothers
5/5
Straight fire. Loved this album. Great instrumentals, great vocals.
'That Lady' and 'Summer Breeze' are classics, but 'What It Comes Down To' wins my fave spot.
Bon Jovi
4/5
Fun album! It was nice to hear some other Bon Jovi tracks aside from the ones I've already been exposed to, though I could see why those were so popular to begin with. Great instrumentals, but I didn't love the vocals in all tracks, just a few.
'Wanted Dead or Alive' slaps heavy and wins my fave.
Siouxsie And The Banshees
2/5
S'okay. The instrumentals were great, but I couldn't get behind the vocals. It felt at times too repetitive between tracks.
Keith Jarrett
4/5
Loved the playing. Hated the moaning.
Part 2B wins my fave.
Violent Femmes
3/5
This album was aite. They have a unique sound, but it didn't quite capture me.
'Kiss Off' was my fave.
Harry Nilsson
5/5
Excellent album. Plenty of bangers in here, vocals and instrumentals on point.
'Gotta Get Up' wins my fave vote.
The Young Gods
2/5
Not my cup of tea. Instrumentals were solid but I couldn't get into the vocals.
'L'Amourir' was decent.
Fela Kuti
4/5
A solid album. Great instrumentals, but not particularly ear catching.
The lengthy tracks make it hard to pick a fave, as overall I liked bits and pieces from each one. I'll go with 'Observation No Crime' though.
Black Sabbath
5/5
Excellent instrumentals. I could never get fully into the vocals though. Still, overall amazing album!
Tossup between 'Supernaut' and 'Snowblind' for faves though.
Peter Frampton
5/5
Fantastic album. Love the instrumentals here. I wasn't always on board with the vocals, but at times they hit nicely.
'Do You Feel Like We Do - Live' takes my fave.
Slipknot
5/5
What an album! My only disappointment was not listening to it sooner.
It can come off a bit samey, particularly in the vocal category, but I quite enjoy the genre, so it works out.
Going with 'Diluted' as my fave from the album.
Oasis
5/5
Good vibes. I enjoyed listening to this one, though the songs were less pronounced than "What's the Story, Morning Glory?"
'Live Forever' was my take for fave.
KISS
5/5
I liked the album overall. Lotta variety, great instrumentals, great vocals.
That said, can't figure out why I don't love KISS. Maybe it's the dichotomy offered by the way they dress vs. the songs they make? But it just seems fitting despite that.
'Beth' was my fave here.
The Thrills
4/5
This was good. I liked the vibe, but I couldn't help but feel like some songs were incredibly repetitive. I also quite liked the use of Banjo, but it got super oldschool Country feeling at the end (not a bad thing, just felt weird to transition to?)
I could see myself revisiting this one. 'Deckchairs and Cigarettes' was my fave takeaway here.
Amy Winehouse
5/5
Excellent album. I actually found myself liking "Frank" more for being so raw, but this album has bangers all around. Excellent vocals and instrumentals.
'He Can Only Hold Her' wins my fave.
Christina Aguilera
5/5
I really liked it! Not as much as "Back to Basics", but there are classics in here. Great variety and instrumentals, and of course vocals were on point.
'The Voice Within' takes my fave.
The Smiths
3/5
This was OK. I don't think I can fully appreciate the sound for some reason. Instrumentals were good, but the vocals felt a bit wispy at times.
'Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me' takes my fave.
The Boo Radleys
5/5
A good album. I like the way it flows, and the instrumentals are fun and psychedelic. Vocals are a bit wispy, not not terribly so. Blends in nicely with the instruments.
'Barney (...and Me)' was my fave.
Ramones
2/5
Very much not my cup of tea. Everything sounded too samey.
'Blitzkrieg Bop' was the only thing I cared for.
The Who
3/5
This was okay. Instrumentals were good, but vocal work was alright. Felt like it was a bit all over the place as an album.
'Pinball Wizard' hard carries here.
Leonard Cohen
3/5
S'okay. I liked the instrumentals throughout, but couldn't get into the vocals much at all.
'Take This Waltz' is my pick for fave.
Nirvana
5/5
Easy 5. This performance was legendary! RIP MTV.
Tossup between 'The Man Who Sold The World' and 'Where Did You Sleep Last Night' for faves. Both were excellent.
Hanoi Rocks
4/5
A good album. I wasn't super into it, but this had good energy. Fun instrumentals and a decent vocals.
'Back to Mystery City' takes my fave pick.
Talk Talk
5/5
I quite liked this album! Psychedelic, easygoing. Nice instrumentals, and vocal work that pairs nicely with it.
'Give It Up' takes my fave here.
The Clash
5/5
Soft 5. I'm on the fence. I enjoyed a number of tracks. The Clash has some great instrumentals, but the vocals were really hit and miss for me. The energy is hard to deny though!
'Train in Vain' was an easy fave for me.
5/5
Nice album. Lotta soul, great instrumentals, great vocal work!
'Four Cornered Room' was my personal fave.
The B-52's
2/5
S'okay. Didn't love the vocal work here. Instrumentals were fine.
'Rock Lobster' was the only one I cared for.
King Crimson
5/5
Excellent. I had a bit of an issue with 'Moonchild' sounding too improv and ill thought out, but everything around that moment was cohesive, well executed, and overall excellent.
'I Talk to the Wind' was my fave, but 'The Court of the Crimson King' was also an amazing track.
I can see myself listening to this again easily.
Crosby, Stills & Nash
4/5
A good album. Solid instrumentals and a few that stuck with me. I didn't love the vocals, but they weren't negatively impacting my enjoyment of the album.
'Wooden Ships' was my fave here.
Duke Ellington
5/5
Wow. What an experience! I wasn't familiar with the Duke, but this album really showcased why he was such a legend.
His group has such raw, potent energy. It's amazing to hear the crowd go wild.
'Black and Tan Fantasy' was my fave here.
Shuggie Otis
4/5
A good listen. The instrumentals were good. Vocal work was fine. Nothing stood out in particular, but it made for good background sound.
'Pling!' was my fave.
Ryan Adams
5/5
Excellent. I enjoyed listening to this one immensely! Somber, solemn, exciting, cohesive - I felt like this all came together nicely.
'Come Pick Me Up' was my fave here.
Side note, I ended up falling into a rabbit hole and listening to "Orion" - which is a metal album from this guy. It's on YouTube - and not half-bad. I recommend giving it a try if you have any passing interest - it felt weirdly unique and it's probably a lot more obscure than it ought to be.
Thin Lizzy
5/5
Pretty good! I really enjoyed this one. It tapers a bit at the end, but I loved the energy throughout.
Up in the air between 'Emerald' and 'Cowboy Song' for my faves from this album.
The Beau Brummels
4/5
Decent album. Instrumentals were good, but the vocals weren't for me. I didn't feel like anything grabbed me too strongly.
'Magic Hollow' was my fave.
Todd Rundgren
5/5
Soft five. This album had a few of tracks that I liked, but also a lot that I didn't care for. It feels like it falls off pretty heavy at the end. That said, I loved the instrumentals, and for the most part enjoyed the vocal work.
The first 4 songs were the best and my faves. The others were a mixed bag of good and decent.
Pixies
4/5
This was interesting, if a bit confusing by the album title. I think that overall, I enjoyed the album - solid instrumentals and vocal work. I do feel like it got a bit samey throughout though.
'Is She Weird' was my fave.
2/5
Didn't really vibe with this one. The instrumentals were decent, but the vocal work felt distant and overall forgettable as an album.
808 State
5/5
A fun album! I think overall, it makes good passive/background music, but not something I'd reach for to sit down and listen to. That said, I really enjoyed it for what it is.
'Pacific 202' was my fave.
Dexys Midnight Runners
3/5
S'okay. Not my cup of tea. Solid instrumentals and vocal work I didn't care for.
'Geno' was good and my fave pick.
Common
5/5
Easy 5. Good vibes, amazing production. Ye COOKED with them beats. Common's rapping is fun and overlays on them nicely. No bad tracks here for me. Definitely open to revisiting this one in full (already listened 3x times).
"The Food" was my standout fave, but I gotta shout out 'Chi-City' and 'They Say'.
The Sonics
3/5
S'okay, not much love for this one. Decent instrumentals and okay vocals.
'Money' was my fave.
Morrissey
4/5
Good. A bit wispy on the vocals but I liked the production.
'Seasick, Yet Still Dock' was my fave.
The Who
4/5
It was good. Great instrumentals, but I couldn't get behind the vocals often. Not a bad listen tho.
'The Ox' was my fave.
Badly Drawn Boy
5/5
Quite Enjoyable! I really liked how everything came together. Excellent instrumentals and good vocal work. Production quality seemed really good as well!
'Another Pearl' was my fave.
Julian Cope
3/5
S'okay. Good instrumentals, but vocal work I didn't care for.
'Soldier Blue' was my fave.
Neil Young & Crazy Horse
3/5
S'aite. Good instrumentals and vocal work, but I couldn't behind them really.
'Down by the River' was my fave.
Aretha Franklin
5/5
Excellent! Easy 5 stars. Excellent vocals and fun instrumentals.
'(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman' was my fave.
Ice Cube
5/5
Quite a fun album! I liked the production and really enjoyed Ice Cube's rapping. The content of the lyrics is controversial, but it felt raw and uncompromising.
'You Can't Fade Me/JD's Gaffilin'' was my fave.
Tears For Fears
5/5
Excellent. Chill, ethereal, undeniably 80s. Awesome instrumental and vocal work.
'Everybody Wants to Rule the World' is an easy pick for my fave, but this album was fantastic from start to finish!
The Who
5/5
Soft 5. I think this album has one of the best combos of opening/closing songs ever, but suffers from fairly lackluster tracks filling in everything inbetween. Overall though, I did enjoy the experience!
'Baba O'Riley' takes the cake for me (but 'Won't Get Fooled Again' is a close second!)
2/5
I wasn't feeling this. It felt incredibly repetitive at times, and I couldn't appreciate the vocal work for the most part. Not a terrible experience, but not one I'd reach for again.
'We Float' was good though.
Slint
3/5
This one was interesting and offered a very... Specific vibe? I feel weirdly drawn to this album, but not immediately such that I want to listen to it again so soon.
The instrumentals were fairly basic and repetitive, and the vocal work felt disjointed, but it felt like it really worked somehow.
'Don, Aman' stood out to me.
Deep Purple
5/5
Nice! Deep Purple brings the energy! Excellent instrumentals, excellent vocals.
'Highway Star' was my fave (softspot for it because of Rock Band 2)
Portishead
5/5
Nice. Eerie, chill. I enjoyed the instrumentals and ethereal vocal work was excellent. Something about it just works, and I'm here for it. Absolutely would revisit again!
'Sour Times' was my pick for a fave.
David Bowie
4/5
Not bad. I liked the instrumentals and the vocal work here was better than I'd experienced with "Aladdin Sane" - but ultimately, nothing really grabbed me here.
'Fascination' was my choice for a fave.
The Cure
4/5
I liked the album overall, but didn't get grabbed by any song in particular. It felt repetitive at times, but the vibe never got boring. Good instrumentals and fitting vocal work. I could see myself revisiting this one.
Pixies
3/5
This leans into "Not my cup of tea territory". Good energy, okay instrumentla work, vocal work all over the place.
I only cared for 'Where is my Mind?'
Miles Davis
4/5
Good listen overall, though nothing stood out too much to pick a fave.
Various Artists
5/5
Excellent. No notes. Getting this on Christmas was a nice treat. All bangers here - no faves.
Iron Maiden
5/5
Nice. Great instrumentals and fitting vocal work. Not my favorite selection from their discography though.
'Transylvania' was a standout for me.
Jeff Buckley
5/5
There are just some artists that stand so solidly on their work that I HAVE to give them a second listen, and Jeff Buckley was no exception. Something about this album felt so cohesive and raw. The instrumentals felt on point, and that vocal work was out of this world!
Plenty of standout tracks here, but I'm going with 'Forget Her' as my fave of the bunch.
If I had a nickle for every time I've listened to an album (twice I might add!) just to find out the artist left the world too soon, I'd have two too many. (The other being Nick Drake.) I do think part of their legacy may not have happened without such tragic catalysts advancing it further, but it's heartbreaking to consider how young they were and how much they could give to the world had they not been taken from it so soon.
The Hives
5/5
Nice! Fun, a bit chaotic, but overall, the whole thing was right up my alley. Fun instrumentals, and spot on punk vocals. Loved it!
'Die, All Right!' was my fave from the bunch, but they have quite a few bangers in here!
Emerson, Lake & Palmer
3/5
That was an... Experience. I didn't wholly love it, but it wasn't too terrible.
'The Sage' was my fave pick.
B.B. King
5/5
Excellent. I imagine this was an amazing Live set to be a part of! Great instrumentals and good vocal work.
'Worry, Worry' was my fave. Loved those guitar riffs!
Fiona Apple
5/5
I really enjoyed this one. Really enjoyable style, nice smooth instrumentals, and great vocal work!
'The Child is Gone' was my fave.
The Beta Band
4/5
It's funny, there was a certain sound I was expecting based on the cover art that I'd say I just was not getting. It put a slight damper on my listening experience, as my expectations were just not being met track after track.
The album itself is decent. Solid instrumentals and decent vocal work. Nothing that stood out too strongly, but the overall composition was good. I just really wish the cover art reflected that better. I'm also open to checking out the album again and relistening to it all or checking out their discography.
'Out-Side' is my choice for a fave.
The The
3/5
S'okay. Not my cup of tea. Decent instrumentals, decent vocal work.
'Uncertain Smile' wins my fave.
Blur
4/5
This was good, better than most of the UK stuff I've listened to on this 1001 Album journey. That said, I didn't resonate too deeply with this one, but I thought the instrumentals and vocal work were good. I could see myself revisiting this album, or Blur's other stuff at some point.
'This is a Low' was my pick for a fave.
John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers
3/5
Solid. Decent instrumentals, though I felt it lacking at times. Vocal work was fitting. Overall though, I felt I couldn't get too into this one.
'Steppin' Out' was my pick for a fave.
Mott The Hoople
4/5
Solid. I wasn't feeling it at first, but it ended up growing a bit on me. I wasn't too blown away, but I did enjoy the instrumentals. Vocal work was decent.
'I'm a Cadillac / El Camino Dolo Roso' was my pick for a fave.
The Stooges
3/5
Solid. Good instrumentals and decent vocal work. I wasn't particularly hooked though.
'Search and Destroy' is my pick for a fave.
Robert Wyatt
4/5
An interesting one. There's a lot going on here. Some that just works, others that lean a bit too much into just noise. Overall, I thought it was a decent listen.
'Alien' was my pick for a fave.
Billie Holiday
4/5
A solid listen. Ultimately, I felt this was a bit samey across the whole album. Billie Holiday has a lovely voice but the songs stay in a pretty constrained range. I also don't usually listen for lyrics, but the constant talk about Love was a bit much for me.
That said, it does invoke a peculiar feeling in me that I can't describe. No particular faves from the album, but the vibe was good.
Queen
5/5
Not the most amazing stuff from Queen, but it's hard to deny just how good Freddie Mercury and crew are. They have such a cool, rich sound to them. I do feel like overall, the composition of the album was a tad bit all over.
'Now I'm Here' wins my fave. 'Killer Queen' gets a shoutout.
Arcade Fire
4/5
Pleasant, but somewhat lacking. I enjoyed the instrumentals, but felt like they stepped just a bit too far back away from their mics at times.
Overall, the album felt cohesive. I could see myself revisiting this one, as it was a good vibe. It's also enough that I'm curious to explore Arcade Fire's catalogue.
'In the Backseat' was my personal fave.
Alexander 'Skip' Spence
2/5
This has very aggressive "Not my cup of tea" energy to it. Some songs run on too long, others are incredibly short, all while having simple and boring instrumentals and vocal work that was all over the place. Had the album been half the length, I'd have bumped this up a star, but by halfway through I couldn't wait for it to end. It started off okay, but never got any better.
The irony of his nickname being Skip isn't lost on me.
The Triffids
3/5
Solid. Felt pretty straightforward, but didn't hook me.
'Save What You Can' was my fave
David Bowie
4/5
I enioyed this one a bit more than the previous one I listened to, though it wasn't enough to make me a Bowie fan. Good instrumentals and decent vocal work.
'Moss Garden' was my fave.
Arcade Fire
5/5
Soft 5. I liked this album more than "Funeral" and thought the overall composition was better. I loved the instrumentals and the vocal work was enjoyable! I'm particularly biased towards organs though.
'My Body is a Cage' was a fave from here.
Honestly, I'd be willing to (and likely will) revisit both "Funeral" and "Neon Bible" at some point. Maybe even their whole discography, as they're pretty in line with my tastes.
Tori Amos
5/5
I really liked this one! Beautiful instrumentals and a beautiful voice to accommodate them. Some songs were definitely out there, but I enjoyed the composition of the album.
'Silent All These Years' was my fave.
Michael Jackson
5/5
Despite the name, the album is quite good. Classic beats all around, but the vocal work of MJ is unmatched. Easy 5!
'The Way You Make Me Feel' takes my fave slot.
Beck
4/5
This was a fun listen! I enjoyed the instrumentals, though vocal work was a bit here and there at times.
'Where It's At' was my fave.

5/5
Easy 5. Excellent instrumentals and vocal work. Great vibe!
'Tighten Up' was my fave.
Jefferson Airplane
5/5
Soft 5. This album was enjoyable to listen to! Good instrumentals and fun vocal work. Many songs fell on the "Good but generic" side.
'White Rabbit' carries it heavy for me and takes the fave slot.
The Coral
5/5
A solid, enjoyable listen. Part of me feels like it was lacking just a little bit of oomph for it to be truly memorable, but overall, great instrumentals and good vocal work.
'Dreaming of You' was my fave.
Pet Shop Boys
5/5
Excellent! I really enjoyed this one. Something about the overall composition just worked for it. Great instrumentals and vocal work.
'It's a Sin' was my fave from this album.
The Slits
2/5
Very much not my cup of tea. Instrumentals that were all over, and vocal work that was even more all over. There was a moment where I felt it was a bit of a decent listen, but overall just not worth the experience.
Nine Inch Nails
5/5
Soft 5. Overall, I enjoyed the listen, but think it went on just a bit too long. I enjoyed the instrumentals, though it was a bit repetitive at times. Vocal work was a bit of a weak point for me. It was fitting of the work, but felt a bit too much in the backseat. I also didn't love the excessive use of distortion.
'Hurt' is hard not to fave, but I'll throw in 'Ruiner' in as a substitute fave.
Liz Phair
4/5
This is a soft 4 for me. Parts of it were fun, others felt a bit all over. The album was fairly cohesive and I think overall, the instrumentals were good and the vocal work was decent.
'Soap Star Joe' was my fave from the lot.
Jimmy Smith
4/5
It's a good vibe. Overall, fairly unmemorable, despite having solid instrumentals. I'll give it a bonus for having a rather unique cover and name.
'Back at the Chicken Shack' was my fave song.
Depeche Mode
4/5
Solid listen. It came off a bit samey throughout, but was still pretty enjoyable despite that.
'Enjoy the Silence' was my fave from this album.
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
5/5
What a fun little album! One of the few I thought was actually too short. Fun instrumentals and vocal work.
'Maps' was my fave, loved playing this one in Rock Band!
The Cure
3/5
Not my cup of tea. It feels competent, but I wasn't particularly compelled. Solid instrumenals and vocal work.
Elvis Costello
3/5
Once again met with an Elvis Costello album, once again finding it wasn't really my cup of tea. Good instrumentalset with vocal work I can't appreciate. It was somewhat better than the first one I listened to, but not by a whole lot.
Elvis Presley
4/5
Enjoyable, but a bit dated. A lot of these tracks felt like they probably didn't stand the test of time. Fun instrumentals and vocal work, though.
'Blue Suede Shoes' was my fave from this bunch.
Minor Threat
3/5
A solid album, but I'm coming to realize that a lot of the punk I like just happens to be the mainstream stuff. That said, this was still pretty enjoyable, with wild instrumentals and somewhat distant vocal work. It does come off a bit samey, but I like energy.
'Look Back & Laugh' was my fave from this album.
Kate Bush
5/5
What an album! Hauntingly eerie at times. I really liked the different instruments present throughout. Great vocal work too!
'Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)' is such a fun track!
Blur
3/5
S'okay. It's got decent instrumentals and vocal work, but overall just didn't feel cohesive or noteworthy.
'Song 2' hard carries this album though. So simple, yet so good!
The Blue Nile
5/5
An interesting album. Instrumentals were surreal and abstract at times, and decent otherwise. The vocals were distant, but emotional at times. I enjoyed listening to this one.
'From Rags to Riches' wins my fave for being so weird.
Brian Wilson
5/5
This was an interesting one. I liked the overall composition! Fun, whimsical instrumentals with at times fairly ethereal vocals. It was a fun listen.
'Good Vibrations' was my fave.
Rocket From The Crypt
4/5
Solid, though leaned into the samey territory a bit for me. Good energy, fun instrumentals and vocal work!
'On A Rope' is an incredibly simple but engaging song. Definitely my fave from the lot!
The Strokes
5/5
Excellent! This was cohesive and fun to listen to. Fun instrumentals and vocal work all round.
'Last Nite' is my pick for a fave!
The Byrds
3/5
Solid album, but not my cup of tea. Good instrumentals and vocal work, though it comes off as a bit samey overall.
Django Django
5/5
Awesome album! Really fun overall and felt incredibly unique! Great instrumentals and fitting vocal work.
'Default' slaps heavy, easy fave pick.
Earth, Wind & Fire
5/5
A fun album! No tracks that I know them for but fun nonetheless. Fun instrumentals and vocal work.
'Happy Feelin'' is my choice for a fave.
Willie Colón & Rubén Blades
5/5
Excellent, fun album. Great instrumentals and fitting vocal work. It does lean into samey territory, but not such that I didn't enjoy it.
'Ojos' was my fave.
Jean-Michel Jarre
5/5
Interesting and unique! I enjoyed the psychedelic, floaty nature of it. Fun instrumentals overall. It did hang out in each section a bit too long at times, but it didn't annoy me too much.
'Oxygéne, Pt. 5' was my favorite, it got kinda funky.
Chicago
5/5
Except for 1 song that really felt both too long and too chaotic, this was a fun album. I noticed there weren't any of the hits I know them for. Still, I enjoyed listening! Great instrumentals and vocal work.
'Questions 67 and 68' was my fave from the lot.
The Who
5/5
Fun! Makes it easy when they're playing their best, I imagine, but they seem a lot better Live than in the albums I've listened to so far.
'Amazing Journey / Sparks - Live / Medley' was my fave from this set!
New York Dolls
4/5
Fun! I liked it, though it leaned a bit into samey territory. Overall fun instrumentals and decent vocal work.

'The Great Gig in the Sky' was my fave.
Heaven 17
3/5
This was okay. Didn't do anything particularly wrong except maybe being too long sometimes. It lacked a particular energy and overall felt fairly generic.
Laibach

'Opus Dei' was my fave from the lot.
Elvis Costello & The Attractions
3/5
I don't think any amount of albums will get me to like Elvis Costello. The instrumentals are fun, but his voice just doesn't do it for me. Overall a decent album, but not my cup of tea.
Neil Young
5/5
Good listen. The album flows nicely and has good instrumentals and vocal work.
'Heart of Gold' was my favorite from this album.
Spiritualized
5/5
This was fun! A bit surreal and experimental, but overall compelling and well put together. Interesting instrumentals and vocal work.
'Broken Heart' was my fave from the lot, though admittedly there's a lot to love here!
M.I.A.
3/5
Not quite my cup of tea. I liked the energy, especially with the instrumentals, but the vocal work was a bit of a miss for me most tracks.
'Fire, Fire' was my fave though.
MGMT
5/5
Nostalgic, despite never really listening to their stuff. Fun instrumentals, though the vocal work felt a tad too distant for me at times. Good time overall though, and I enjoyed the overall composition!
I'm between 'Electric Feel' and 'Time to Pretend' for faves!
10cc
4/5
I enjoyed it, though it didn't have any particular standouts that I know and love 10cc for. Instrumentals were fun and interesting, vocal work was fit sonically, but didn't hook me.
'Old Wild Men' was my fave.
Kings of Leon
2/5
Interesting instrumentals accompanied by fairly annoying vocal work. I have little love for this album and really expected more from Kings of Leon.
Steve Earle
4/5
I wasn't feeling this at first, but by the end felt like it was quite enjoyable. Good instrumentals and vocal work.
'Little Rock 'N' Roller' was my fave.
Fleetwood Mac

Definitely better than Tusk. All the bangers are here! Competently made, no weird experiments, good instrumentals and vocal work.
'Dreams' was my fave from this album.
Dr. Octagon
4/5
Fun album! I liked the overall beats and vocal work. The overall theme was a bit funky in the not-so-fun way, but I still enjoyed it.

A solid first half, but loses steam after. Good beats and decent vocal work.
'Express Yourself' was my fave.

A Tribe Called Quest
5/5

'Excursions' was my fave track.
Everything But The Girl
5/5
Fun! It leans into background music territory, as it doesn't seem to make any statement that I could pick up, but this stuff is right up my alley.
No particular favorites, but I'm looking forward to revisiting and exploring more from them!
My Bloody Valentine
2/5
Very much not my cup of tea. I somewhat thought the instrumentals were interesting but the vocal work was too much for me. This was so tough, I ended up looking at other reviews. It's a wonder this did so well on release. I have to wonder why/how.

'Mdc vendredi' was my fave.

Solid album. Good beats and solid vocal work. I feel like it lacked overall cohesion, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

Le Tigre
3/5
Solid instrumentals and beats met with pretty hard to love vocal work.
'Hot Topic' was my fave tho.
Beatles
5/5
Soft 5. The tracks that are considered classics are amazing and all front loaded in the first half. The rest are just mid and some end so questionably abruptly.
'Here Comes The Sun' was my fave - it's such a sonic treat. Plenty of good ones to pick from, at least from the first half.
David Gray
5/5
This was pleasant! I enjoyed the instrumentals and the vocal work was great!

5/5
This was pleasant, and the 2nd Simon & Garfunkel album I've gotten recently. Great instrumental work and vocal work!
'Cecilia' was my fave, lotta good energy from that track.
David Bowie
2/5
Meh. David Bowie has come up multiple times and it's generally disappointing. This is no exception. The vocal work here kills any enthusiasm I had for the instrumentals.
5/5
I was exposed to this album not too long ago. An 18 minute song sounds crazy, but it's truly a treat to listen to. Fun instrumentals and vocal work!
'Close to the Edge' is my fave, but out of the 18-minute behemoth, the organs around the 12 minute mark are just amazing.

Fun little album. Sweet instrumentals and vocal work. Also hard for me to separate artists from the art on this one - Dolly Parton is a wonderful person!
'Coat Of Many Colors' was my fave track.
Fats Domino
5/5
Gonna give this a five. Due to time constraints, I ended up listening to some other works from Fats because Spotify's version of the album doesn't have all the songs available and I couldn't go hunting them down.
That said, dude's got good sound and good vibes. It's a bit too dated for my tastes, but I'm glad I was exposed to Fats Domino.
The Verve
4/5
Decent sounds and a good vibe. Overall not super memorable though. Nothing in particular stood out, but I enjoyed the album overall.
Syd Barrett
2/5
One of those albums that I had to stop and check the reviews first because I just know there's more to it than meets the eye. I can't in good faith rate this well, because it's definitely a mess, but I gave it an extra star because there does seem to be some merit here and there, and I can understand what Syd was going through. Tough album to get through.
Run-D.M.C.
4/5
Fun, but gets kinda stale on the back half. The 808 tracks can be a bit repetitive. Still, I enjoyed the more popular tracks that have found themselves in the mainstream. Some of the lyrics were fun too!

5/5
Good times, good vibes, easy 5. Nice instrumentals and vocal work.
'Let's Get It On' is a certified banger... Heh.

'These Chains' was my fave.
Parliament
4/5
Good instrumentals and vocal work, but overall a bit too repetitive for my tastes.

What a fun album! I happen to be playing "Clair Obscur: Expedition 33" which really makes the French bits slap a bit harder. Fun instrumentals and vocal work, in a very interesting fusion of music! I intend on diving into more of their works and giving this album another listen through.
'Una música brutal' was my favorite from this album, though a lot of these were just excellent!
Sleater-Kinney
3/5
Not bad. Good instrumentals and decent vocal work. No particular standout tracks for me though.
N.E.R.D
4/5
Not bad. I didn't jive with all the songs, but I think they had some good instrumentals with some decent vocal work.

4/5
Good vibes! Nice instrumentals and vocal work. It wasn't super compelling, but was still enjoyable overall.
'Tall in the Saddle' was my fave.

This was fun! I was familiar with the Title song but wow, the instrumentals and vocal work really work for me here. Definitely want to go back for another listen and an artist deep dive.
'Malibu' was my fave.
Green Day
4/5
A good listen. There's definitely some bangers in here, but also some fairly mid tracks. Fun instrumentals and vocal work here and there.
'Basket Case' was my fave.
Elliott Smith
2/5
Not my cup of tea. Instrumentals were decent but the vocal work was not doing it for me.
'Can't Make a Sound' was my fave.
5/5
I mess with this heavy. Interesting instrumentals and good vocal work. I had to go out of my way to listen since it's not on Spotify, but it was worth it.
'Knights in Shining Karma' was my fave.
Dinosaur Jr.
3/5
Good instrumentals, okay vocal work. Overall just alright.
Dusty Springfield
5/5
This is a gem of an album. Hauntingly beautiful vocal work and excellent instrumentals. Listened to it twice, having never heard anything from it before!
'The Windmills of Your Mind' is *chef's kiss*
David Bowie
3/5
Not bad for a David Bowie album, though I'm getting a bit weary of his works. It just doesn't work for me overall, but I recognize it's a decent album in its own right.
The Smashing Pumpkins
4/5
This album would be great if I loved The Smashing Pumpkins. As it stands, I only mildly like them. Great instrumentals, but with vocal work that I just can't get around to liking save for a few songs.
'1979' is peak for me though.
Rahul Dev Burman
3/5
A solid listening experience, but nothing too compelling. Fun instrumentals with decent vocal work.
'Romantic Theme' was nice though.
Meat Loaf
5/5
Honestly, not bad. I think I vibed with the album on a surface level, but couldn't get fully immersed. I really liked the instrumentals, and the vocal work was quite good.
'Bat Out Of Hell' was my fave.
Jimi Hendrix
5/5
Overall good to great between tracks, but 'All Along the Watchtower' really takes things to another level!
Fun time overall, great instrumentals and vocal work.
Def Leppard
5/5
Pretty good! Nothing quite stood out to me, but the instrumentals and vocal work were good throughout.
'Photograph' was my top song from this album.
My Bloody Valentine
4/5
Better than the first album that was suggested. Good instrumentals, though I dislike how much the vocal work takes a backseat.
Led Zeppelin
5/5
Fun listen! Great instrumentals and good vocal work.
'Stairway to Heaven' is my fave and and all time classic.
Fun Lovin' Criminals
4/5
This was fun. Overall great instrumentals, but the vocal work felt like it stayed in the backseat too much.
'Methadonia' was my fave.
The Good, The Bad & The Queen
4/5
Not bad. Not particularly memorable, but I enjoyed the listen. Fun instrumentals and fitting vocal work.
Funkadelic
4/5

Michael Jackson
5/5
Yeah, easy 5. These still slap today! Great instrumentals and vocal work.
'The Girl Is Mine' is my fave.
Curtis Mayfield
4/5

Björk
4/5
Not bad. I enjoyed this, but the vocal work stayed too similar throughout. Instrumentals were pretty good though.
Janelle Monáe
5/5
What an album! I really like how competently made it felt. Excellent instrumentals and vocal work! This might not have the pop-iest songs, but it really came together as a whole.
I'm up in the air for 'Cold War' and 'Oh, Maker' being my fave.
Isaac Hayes
3/5
This was fine. The song about picking and choosing between two women, followed up by the guy just talking into the mic detracted from my enjoyment of the overall package. Good instrumentals, meh vocal work.
'Walk On By' was my fave by a country mile. Such a cool opening riff.
The Velvet Underground
3/5
It was alright. Certainly a vibe, but not one I particularly cared for. Decent instrumentals with ok vocal work.
OutKast
5/5
What an album. The runtime is a bit intimidating, but the amount of variety and storytelling on display more than makes up for it. Competently made, good instrumentals and vocal work.
'Hey Ya!' is hard to top. I really liked the rendition of 'My Favorite Things'.
Peter Tosh
3/5
Decent but a bit same. Decent instrumentals and vocal work.
Black Sabbath
4/5
A perfectly cromulent Black Sabbath album. It starts off nice, but then kinda stays in general Black Sabbath sounding things without really making any strides into the iconic. It was a decent listen, but not compelling enough to want to listen to it again - at least immediately.
Massive Attack
5/5
Good vibes, chill listening. Great instrumentals and vocal work! I feel like a lot of music from video games took notes from this page.
'Heat Miser' was my fave.
Aretha Franklin
5/5
RESPECT.
Great vibes! Fun instrumentals and vocal work. 'Respect' is easily the best bop here.
Todd Rundgren
4/5
This feels well done, but incredibly drug induced. A few songs caught my interest, but none felt like they pushed the proverbial envelope, especially in contrast to "Something / Anything?" Still, it felt competently made, with interesting instrumentals and decent vocal work.
'Zen Archer' was my fave from the lot.
Fred Neil
3/5
It was fine, but I didn't care for most of it. Decent instrumentals and vocal work.
Bob Marley & The Wailers
4/5
Solid listen, but a bit samey. Good instrumentals and vocal work.
Joni Mitchell
4/5
Solid listen. Good vocal work and instrumentals. Falls a bit into the samey side though.
The Rolling Stones
3/5
Decent sounds but not my cup of tea. Good instrumentals with ok vocal work.
Not quite what I expected, having been so limited to any exposure to The Rolling Stones.
The Beach Boys
4/5
Solid sound, but a lot of songs are afraid to end, fading out instead. I personally dislike when they do that. Overall enjoyable, but some tracks come off a bit samey. Still a couple of hard hitters in here.
'God Only Knows' was my fave.
Pretenders
4/5
Solid sound. I like the overall vibes. Good instrumentals and vocal work. Not super compelling any whichway and kinda peters out at the end of its fairly long runtime.
'Brass In Pockets' was my fave.
Arctic Monkeys
5/5
Good album. Not as much compared to some of their other ones, but worth listening to. Fun, upbeat, but a bit on the forgettable side.
'I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor' was my fave from the lot.
The Cure
4/5
Look, it's a solid album for what it was, but I can't help but feel like it's a tad bit too much of 'The Cure'. Decent instrumentals and vocal work.
'Cold' was my fave.
Beatles
5/5
A classic. Doesn't hold up too well overall for me, but the bangers that stand out are undeniable.
'Can't Buy Me Love' was my fave.
Doves
5/5
What a vibe. Cool instrumentals with good vocal work. Feels competently made and just a good, chill listen.
'Here It Comes' was my fave.
Motörhead
3/5
Motorhead is good in doses for me. This album did little to change that for me. I like some tracks but overall it wasn't great. Instrumentals are decent but the vocal wasn't for me.
Echo And The Bunnymen
2/5
Didn't feel like I needed to listen to this one. Instrumentals were fine, but the vocal work just wasn't compelling.
Guns N' Roses
5/5
This album has 3 pillars that otherwise prop up an otherwise overall decent album. It's truly elevated by just those 3 tracks. Strong and good instrumentals throughout with good vocal work. Except in those 3 songs, where they're just in another league of their own.
'Welcome to the Jungle' was always my least favorite from the 3. 'Paradise City' sits at 2nd, but it can at times supersede 'Sweet Child O' Mine' for first place depending on the vibe. All three songs are legendary in their own right, and truly what takes this album from a 4 to a 5.
Nico
4/5
Lovely album. Good instrumentals and vocal work. A bit on the samey side.
Lloyd Cole And The Commotions
3/5
Not bad, but nothing too standout either. Decent instrumentals and vocal work.

Soft 5. I think it's good overall, but not as iconic as some of their other work. Good instrumentals and vocal work.
'Clint Eastwood' is always a classic, but 'Sound Check (Gravity)' was my fave.
Bauhaus
2/5
Really didn't feel like this needed to be on this list. Poor cohesion between ok instrumentals and awful vocals.
The National
4/5
A solid listen. Nothing too particularly standoutish, but I enjoyed the overall package. Good instrumentals with fitting vocal work.
Kacey Musgraves
5/5
Soft 5. It's well put together and an overall good vibe. Nothing too stand-outish, but still some nice instrumentals and vocal work.
'Slow Burn' was my fave.
Talking Heads
3/5
Couldn't get into this one. Instrumentals were decent, but the vocal work was not hitting right. It was an okay listen overall, but it's not a strong 3.
The The
4/5
This was decent. Interesting instrumentals with fitting vocal work. A bit too over my head though, I think. Still, overall felt quite competent.
Led Zeppelin
4/5
Overall good, but a bit long in the tooth for songs that generally sound a bit samey. Still, good instrumentals meet good vocal work here.
'Kashmir' was my fave.
Santana
5/5
Smooth, sexy, stylish. This album is wonderful and well put together. Amazing instrumentals with great vocals! Easy 5.
'Black Magic Woman' takes the fave spot for me.
a-ha
5/5
Soft 5. It's not bad overall, but it's carried heavily by 'Take On Me' - good instrumentals and vocal work but just pales in comparison to that first track.
Jerry Lee Lewis
4/5
Solid listen. A bit short and dated, but still fun!
Garbage
4/5
Not bad. I think I'd appreciate it in a specific mood, but I still enjoyed it overall. It did get a bit samey at times.
R.E.M.
4/5
Not a bad listen. I think overall, not as good as the stuff I know them for, but still enjoyable.
The Jam
3/5
S'alright. A good vibe but overall wasn't particularly impactful and not quite my cup of tea.
The Dave Brubeck Quartet
5/5
'Take Five' is such an iconic track. The rest of the album was an enjoyable listen as well. Fun!
Ray Charles
5/5
Excellent, no notes.
Bill Callahan
4/5
A soft 4 - Not bad, but not a super compelling album. The instrumentals were great. Vocals were hit or miss for me.
John Cale
5/5
I actually quite like this one. Great instrumentals and quiet fitting vocal work. I do think it lacked a bit of oomph, but overall an enjoyable listen.
Soundgarden
5/5
Overall not the strongest album, but still a great listen. Great instrumentals and vocal work.
'Black Hole Sun' takes the cake for my fave, but 'Spoonman' is a very close 2nd.
Blondie
5/5
This was unexpectedly fun! Loved the variety, the instrumentals, and the vocal work.
'One Way Or Another' is a certified classic and my fave. 'Heart Of Glass' was also an awesome track! Hard to pick between the two.
The Zutons
5/5
Pleasantly surprised! This was fun. Nothing strongly stood out, but I still quite enjoyed this album. Fun instrumentals and vocal work.
Kraftwerk
4/5
I dig it. It's a bit repetitive, but I love how experimental it feels.
Creedence Clearwater Revival
5/5
Easy 5. A bit on the samey side, but these tracks have awesome instrumentals and vocal work.
Tom Waits
2/5
Vocals killed any interest in revisiting this album. The instrumentals were somewhat decent, but that vocal work was awful for a majority of the album.
The Fall
2/5
Too long and not particularly compelling.
SAULT
5/5
Soft 5. I was bumping to some of this. Not super into it, but I enjoyed the bits that weren't super artsy/experimental. I do think overall, it's competently made and a decent listen.
'Wildfires' is a certified banger though.
The Band
5/5
Honestly... not bad! For a band called The Band with the album called The Band, they did a decent job at being, well, the Band! Enjoyed this overall, good vibes.
'Up On Cripple Creek' was my fave.
The Jam
4/5
One of the better UK albums, but not particularly compelling. Good instrumentals and decent vocal work.
Robert Wyatt
4/5
A bit on the weird side but overall not too terrible.
The Rolling Stones
3/5
Not my cup of tea. Incredibly samey throughout and lacking any particular oomph.
Reading the reviews is how I found out there is a UK vs US version. The US version has 'Paint It Black' which would immediately have given this an extra star, but I shall not update the score because that's not the version I listened too.
Lynyrd Skynyrd
5/5
Solid album. I like their sound - instrumentals are good and vocal work is fitting.
'Freebird' pushes this heavily into 5 star territory though. All time classic song!
Snoop Dogg

Stephen Stills
5/5
This felt really competently made. Love the vibes!

This was alright. Good instrumentals, but I wasn't feeling the vocal work this time around. The album has good energy but didn't feel particularly compelling.

Strong start that ultimately ends up leveling out by the end, but overall a fun listen!
Insane that 'Intro' is so iconic and is just the intro! Easily my fave from the lot.
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
5/5
Loved it! Makes me wanna listen to more. Great instrumentals and vocal work.
'Heads Will Roll' is amazing and my fave pick from the album.
Eminem
5/5
I'm a biased Em fan, but this one has to be one of the weaker albums for me in his collection. Still, he only got better with time, and this being the one that really brought him into the mainstream, gotta put respect on this album.
'As the World Turns' isn't my favorite per se, but really highlights the ridiculous but funny lyrics Em puts out.
Simple Minds
3/5
Pretty samey 80s vibes. Not bad, but nothing stood out in particular for me.
The Gun Club
2/5
Didn't really love this one and it felt like it was trying to annoy me at times :/
Elvis Presley
3/5
S'alright. I have some love and respect for his hits, but this didn't really feel like it had any.
Lou Reed
3/5
They say don't judge a book by it's cover. However, it's hard to ignore the stark difference between what's on the tin and the contents of the package.
That said, I didn't particularly care for this album. It's not terrible, but aside from 'Walk On the Wild Side' being such a recognizable sample, nothing stood out for me.
Tim Buckley
3/5
Not bad. Good energy, but overall not super memorable. Not much love for the lyrics.
Burning Spear
3/5
Not my jam. Not bad, but no particular standouts for me.
Ella Fitzgerald
5/5
Wonderful. A bit too long for the Spotify version (3hrs15min), but Ella's voice is magnificent and the accompanying band is fantastic!

5/5
Fun! This was very enjoyable to listen to.

The Killers
5/5
Listening to this album was like meeting an old friend. One that I'm familiar with but for some reason, haven't kept up with.
This album falters a bit at the end, but starts off super strong and is overall fantastic!
'Mr. Brightside' is an easy to point to banger, but I grew up with 'Somebody Told Me' as my anthem. It's a hard tossup between both for a fave.
Kid Rock
1/5
Criminal that this should be on this list.
Van Halen
4/5
Good listen, but only felt like one song was particularly compelling. Not sure why, but they're just not quite my cup of tea.

Dr. Dre
4/5
Solid. I laughed at the gameshow skit. Overall not my vibe, but I respect it.
The Icarus Line
4/5
Solid sound, if a bit disjointed. It did feel overall cohesive. Not a bad listen!
Foo Fighters
5/5
Enough Foo to really establish the sound signature but not enough Fighters to really drive it in.
Even though I planned on giving this a soft 5, this is one of the albums where I sought some context and found that its merit was more impressive than what can be gleaned from the album.
'For All the Cows' is like hearing an old friend for me. A true deep cut, a song which I can only faintly recall having enjoyed so long ago.

John Lennon
3/5
'Imagine' carries this album. The rest range from mid to decent.

The Cars
5/5
Excellent album with many bangers!
The Adverts
4/5
Not half bad! Good sound, a bit repetitive though.
David Bowie
4/5
Know what. I have, as a result of this challenge, come to dislike David Bowie and borderline hate Bob Dylan.
And yet, despite both names coming up on this album (even as a tribute for one), I'd say it was a pretty enjoyable experience overall. It truly is hard to listen to this album and not recognize there's something great about it.
It's still not quite my cup of tea and there wasn't anything I'd save to listen to later, but it's definitely still worth a listen.

Respect for that last track though.

Awesome all the way through!
Boston
5/5
A most excellent album all the way through. Definitely belongs on this list!
2/5
I am tired of getting Bob Dylan. I do not like his voice 90% of the time.
This live didn't help his case.
Bonus star because instrumentals are still decent and that last song is pretty good.
But please. I'm so tired with this list's borderline obsession with the guy.
Marvin Gaye
4/5
Enjoyable overall, but doesn't do enough to absolutely love it.
The Smiths

3/5

4/5
Solid sound, but a bit samey. Much prefer some of their other work.
The KLF
5/5
This was fun and enjoyable!
Wilco
4/5
I was teetering between 3 and 4 stars, as I wasn't particularly compelled by this album but it was not half bad.
Then 'Someone Else's Song' came on, which served as the basis of Team Fortress 2's 'More Gun' song that the Engineer sings.
Thanks for the good memories, solid 4 star otherwise.
Primal Scream
4/5
This was a weird, but somewhat enjoyable, vibe!
Wire

The Sensational Alex Harvey Band
4/5
Wasn't sure about this one at first but overall it wasn't too half bad.
Van Morrison
4/5
A solid listen but a bit long.
Living Colour
4/5
Honestly, hard to follow up after putting the best track forward, but it manages to be a decent album after 'Cult of Personality'.
Underworld
5/5
Easy 5. This one was right up my alley!
Bruce Springsteen
4/5
Know what, this was a decent one considering how overexposed to Springsteen I feel at this point. No stand out bangers, but still a competent album overall, if a bit long in the tooth.
XTC

Not half bad, I really liked the last song!
The Lemonheads

'Mrs. Robinson' is a bit of a hard carry for an otherwise pretty alright album.
Tom Waits
2/5
It started off okay and I only got more impatient with it as it went on. I was just straight up not having a good time.
The United States Of America

Bit of a weird one. Disliked the start but some stuff in there is decent. Felt like listening to 5 different artists.
Paul Simon

Honestly, not bad. I liked the different instruments throughout. Not the most compelling album, but it was still a fun listen!
The Sugarcubes

Started off decent, ended a bit weird. Overall alright.
The Streets

Honestly wasn't sure at first but I really liked the tail end of this album.
