This has been a favourite of mine since it's release. I love the sparse nature of the album, and Romi's voice is a thing of beauty.
It was ok. It's what I expected from Supertramp.
Meh, some good stuff here, but I'm not much of a Country fan and the slide guitars got me down.
Very cool, plenty of funk and soul.
This was one of the first albums I remember as a child. My mum and dad had the LP and I used to play it loads. I had forgotten most of the songs, but it wasn't as good as I remember it being.
Meh. Not really a big fan on The Smiths, and this fight sound any different to any of their other music. Some catchy riffs, though.
Definitely not for me. Weird
Good stuff
Great album, but just falls short of the original
Really liked this. Never heard of it before.
Never been much of a fan, and this was too long and monotonous.
Not as good as I remember
Pointless, repetitive noise
I hate slide guitars. The sound to me is like nails down a chalk board. Could only manage two tracks before giving up.
Just noise. Ouch.
Bad 90s rap.
Not sure who the band are or who they're trying to be. It flips between beach boys, and Dylan, and Beatles, and Kinks. Odd one, but not terrible
Not my bag, baby
Couldn't make it past the first track. Maybe it makes me a heathen, or less intellectual, but freeform experimental jazz just make by brain hurt and me ears bleed.
I don't like the Bee Gees at the best of time, but a whole hour in one go is a great big no.
Surprisingly good. I still can't tell whether Mike D is a lyrical genius, or whether he's just shouting incoherent nonsense through a loud hailer, but musically really good.
I've surprised myself with how well I remember the lyrics to all these songs. Soundtrack to my early teen years, and absolutely brilliant
The album was undoubtedly ahead of its time, but it feels less like an album, and more a series of half-baked ideas yet to find it a purpose.
Just no
Loving the bluesy nature of this. A far cry from the title track, tbh I was wondering whether this was Alice Cooper at all at one point.
Good stuff. I knew of The Stooges, but never really explored any of their music. I had heard I Wanna Be Your Dog on the Lock Stock soundtrack, but the rest of the album rocks.
I love it, I love it, I love it. This hit just right this morning, and is now a favourite.
I'd heard "Do You Realize" on the radio and liked it, but in my opinion it's one of the weaker records on the album, despite it's popularity. This is now in my library.
Got bored five tracks in and gave up. Getting serious bargain basement McCartney wannabe feelings from this . Sorry XTC, but not for me.
Much like a lot of Beck's albums, there are moments of real brilliance, but the rest of just doesn't chime with me as much as I hope and expect. I remember when this came out, and E-Pro was such an amazing track (and it still is) but I didn't take to the rest of the album. Today, I like it more than I did back then, and hopefully not as much as I will in another twenty years.
Meh
Just awesome. It feels timeless, yet so of the moment. A masterpiece.
Prog rock. Great for a bit, but just too much after a while. I nearly finished the album, largely due to the fact some of the tracks were thankfully under a minute in length.
This is the first time I've listened to this album start to finish. There are some definite R.E.M. vibes, as well as Velvet Underground, and Bowie going on here, and I really like it. The single "Help the Aged" is probably one of the weaker songs on the album, in my opinion. It make me wonder what the record company was thinking.
Yeah, it's alright. Some good, some bad, some ugly.
Pretty forgettable. Not bad, but just didn't stay with me in any way.
Right up my street. Been a long time since I heard this, but has aged very well. Upbeat and great to work to :D
Wow, a whole album of effectively the same song. Not good.
I feel that I should like Billy Bragg more than I do. I don't know if it's his singing style, or the music he makes, but it never hits quite as well as I hope it will. Sorry Billy. This album in particular is good, I can't deny it, but just not great.
Nah. Neil Young's voice annoys me too much, it's also too country for me. Just a massive swing and a miss. I don't know what was so special about this album to make it into the 1001.
Oh my god. I played this so much when it came out, and I can't believe I'd almost forgotten it existed. This album is so powerful, so raw, and always has me in tears.
Good craic. I've never heard this album before, and it's more varied than I thought it would be, given the singles which were released.
Not bad. 3/5. Some good, ageless music here. Some less so.
Amazing stuff. Good, honest rock and roll. What a way to enter the world of celebrity.
Nope. Not for me. Also, if your album is in this list, but it's mostly collaborations with other artists, you'll get marked down. This was almost entirely collaborations, and was still shit.
Yeap, pretty good.
Pretty good. Heart-shaped box is amazing.
Not bad music, but I can listen to Dylan's voice for too long, it annoys me. Not sure why this album made it on the list, it sounds like every other Dylan album.
Need to check it out again
No listening required. I know this album almost note for note.
One of my favourites, and frequently played loudly in my house. Brilliant!
Tracey Thorn has such an amazing voice, but this album just fell flat for me. Definitely of a time, and hasn't aged well, in my opinion.
Urgh, hippie nonsense. I know Frank Zappa has done some great things, but this isn't one of them. It's clearly a blueprint for others to follow, but does nothing for me.
Whoa, hard no. I don't get the screamy thing, and this is full of screamy. The music isn't terrible, but together makes my ears bleed and my brain hurt.
Huh, well, looking at the reviews they seem to range from absolute garbage to unrecognised genius. I sit in the middle. It was OK. I recognised one song from the album as it was used in a TV advert I think.
I can hear that this was influenced by the like of The Doors, and I can tell that this influenced other future bands. Does that make this one of the top 1001 albums? Nah, not really. Everyone's heard of The Doors, I don't know many people who have heard of Suicide (well, not in this context, anyway).
Nice! Haven't listened to this album from start to finish in ages. I real treat to be able to go back and revisit this. I used to listen to the Pumpkins a lot in my youth. Time to queue up some more!
I was kinda prepared to hate this, given my distaste for gangsta rap, but I actually enjoyed it more than I expected. Still not amazing, but not terrible
Nope. Still don't get the love for Kendrick Lamar
I know why it was popular, but her voice irritated the fuck out of me then, and it irritates the fuck out of me now. PICK A NOTE!
Another whole album of "meh". It's pleasant enough to listen to as a background track on a summers evening, but not exactly setting the world alight. Maybe that's because I'm listening to it sixty years too late... Maybe.
Anyway, on another note, the album art makes the guy look like a killer in a late sixties Hollywood thriller.
The first CD I ever got. Still a great album today. I was firmly in the blur camp, whilst everyone else seemed to be going mad for Oasis. There's simply no contest in my opinion. blur were so much better in every way.
Bloody country music....
Musically, this is right at my street. However, I'm docking a point for being Amy Winehouse. In my opinion definitely not a worthy member of the 27 Club.
What!? This should be removed from the list, without a doubt. I instantly heard the influence of Lana del Ray from some 10 years previous. Why isn't that album on the list? Bland, uninteresting, and I'm no way influential.
Another boring album. Musically, it did nothing for me. Lyrically, it was OK. Vocally, I ended up hating the fact that he'd start singing the next line so far ahead of the beat that his voice just lingered so bloody annoyingly. Just stop it.
Anything by Aretha would instantly get a five star review. That woman is just the best!
Oh my God, no. How they found FIVE singles to peddle from this bag of spanners is beyond me. Culturally significant, at a push. Musically significant, not a chance! My ears and brain do not thank you for requesting that I listen to this samey, cliched, bland, pop crap. I need to go and listen to some Joy Division to bring myself back down to normal levels...
Not bad. Never heard of The Auteurs, even though I was a child of the 90's and into my indie pop/rock at the time. This is clearly the case as the listening history for all of the songs on YTM are just into the tens of thousands. Popularity aside, it was quite good. Definitely sounded like a 90's record, and seems to have aged quite well. Not sure my life is any better for it, though.
Pretty good. Nostalgic, but not amazing.
Nice! Never heard the album before, but was not disappointed. This makes me wish I were around in the sixties to hear this afresh, from a vinyl, with a pair of huge headphones, lying on the floor.
Another bunch of "Meh". Not really punk, not really rock, and a cover of a song which makes me convulse and froth at the mouth. No wonder I've never heard of them...
