The Velvet Underground & Nico
The Velvet UndergroundI guess I had never really listened to The Velvet Underground. It wasn’t what I expected. Maybe that was just this album. I need to listen to other albums. I didn’t really care for it.

Wow, I’ve always been a radio guy or just listened to random streaming playlists and stations. I’m just now starting to listen to entire albums and it was a great experience and I can see why Abbey Road is considered one of the greatest!
“Dad, what did the 80’s sound like?” Here ya go. Listen to these 8 songs. It’s crazy to put out 8 songs and 4 of them are still be played and recognized 40 years later. I don’t think I would immediately think of Tears for Fears as an iconic band, yet they have lasted generations. That’s crazy to me. What a feat to put out an album where half of your songs have long term staying power
Not necessarily my thing. But I always thought of Jefferson Airplane as classic rock (which they are) but I didn’t realize how hippie they actually were, which is a good thing. I prefer the female vocals. They are a different band with her singing. I need to look her up. I don’t know her name. Their name alone is worth a star before you even listen to the music. Surrealistic Pillow. Amazing title.
I’m not familiar with this artist and so I didn’t know what to expect. But I really love this album. When I used to do video editing, I would listen to instrumental hip-hop a lot because it works so well as a background soundtrack. I can really appreciate the musicality of an artist like this.
One of the greatest R&B voices of all time. Taken way too soon!
Great album. I love these influential albums that I’m not familiar with but have inspired so many other great artists.
I mean, it’s Purple Rain. One of the greatest albums of the 80’s and probably of all time. Prince puts everything into this album.
Great classic album
Better than I expected. I think of them as a one hit wonder, but this album was really enjoyable for my road trip.
Hendrix, man. A great classic rock album. You know someone is a legend when they perform a cover song and everyone forgets it was a cover and not their own original song.
I don’t listen to this type of music a lot, so maybe that is why I felt underwhelmed. Some good beats and riffs, but just didn’t do it for me. However, I would like to see this band pay live because I bet it would be a great night!
I don’t think I had ever heard one song on the album. And I’ve listened to country at times. This was not the album for me, but if you like grassroots, twangy country it’s probably 5 stars for you. So I give it a 3 and found the middle ground.
It was 45 minutes of Chef from South Park singing his heart out to teach me about life and love. The entire time I listened, I just pictured a montage with Chef being superimposed over Kyle, Stan, Cartman, and Kenny teaching them things they had no business learning. Oh my god, they killed Kenny!
A fun album I enjoyed. However, after this one was over I went and listen to Funeral. This is a solid outing, but not their best work.
Very cool album!
Musically, a very cool album. Lyrically, wtf
Great to listen to while exercising or cleaning the house
I enjoyed this so much better than I thought I would. Great vocals, beautiful melodies, and wonderful acoustic guitar. I can see why Joni is iconic.
Not his best album, but great, nonetheless. A classic.
I’m listening to a Blur album that does not contain Song 2? I see this is their earlier stuff. I didn’t hate it, but I’m probably never gonna listen to this album again.
This was definitely an album that I’m glad that I discovered from this list! Her voice is incredible and I only ever heard a couple of her songs. But this truly was an enjoyable album!
Some catchy tracks. Solid, but wasn’t really for me.
I enjoy The Beach Boys but this doesn’t seem like one of their best albums. Still, the classic beachy sound still comes through!
I really love this album. I’ve heard of Frank Ocean, but wasn’t familiar until recently. I like this album better than Blonde, which is also great. But Channel Orange was refreshing and fun.
Great album!
This is why I am enjoying this 1001 album journey. I had never even heard of this band, but I instantly enjoyed their music. Fun classic 60’s vibe.
In the conversation for one of the greatest rap albums of all time. And for sure, one of the best rap albums from the early years of the genre. Influential and iconic. It’s fun to hear Run-DMC play with beats and lyrics and sampling tracks. Ground breaking at the time. Some of the godfathers.
The perfect album.
Green Day is a great band. Not always my favorite band, but I understand and appreciate them as artists. It’s funny that they made a musical out of this album, because even if they hadn’t, I’d still be getting rock opera vibes. Solid album. Maybe a little too much Broadway drama, but it was fun and enjoyable.
I don’t listen to a lot of foreign language albums. This one really was beautiful. I started out in my car, and I wasn’t quite feeling it. But I put it back on when I was doing some house chores, and it was magical playing in the background. Such a lovely album

Interesting album
Two great, iconic songs give this album an automatic 4 stars. I thought this would be a 5-star album, but the rest of the tracks were ho-hum.
This is a perfect example of needing to separate the artist from the art. The art is 5 stars. One of the best rap albums of its time. And I don’t like Kanye. At all. But this album has great tracks, a fun theme, and awesome collabs. I really enjoyed the final track, where a somewhat “humble” Kanye is new to the biz and telling his story. Even I am surprised to rate this 5 stars, but give credit where credit is due.
Pretty voice. The album had an agenda and they stuck with it. I can respect that. I don’t know that the songs reflected the agenda as much as the skits. So it felt a little disjointed. This isn’t my normal genre jam, so if I were in the mood for it, I could come up with several other artists I’d play instead.
Definitely a little dated. But I bet if you were into Morrissey in the 80’s, you had major cool points.
This is not my style of music. At all. However, if you put yourself in the shoes of a Country Western fan, this man would have to be one of the godfathers. I can appreciate his art and talent and how foundational this album must be for country music. It would probably be 5 stars from a country fan.
The Doors have a wonderful classic rock sound, yet they stay unique wit their bluesy vibe. An experience.
A fun band, just not for me. Sounded like a Beatles cover band trying to throw in their own tunes and thinking you wouldn’t notice.
Great album! I love Irish folk rock. Hard to believe these guys were an 80’s band! They still sound fresh.
These are classic songs that have stood the test of time. This community seems to be more about indie rock, but there was a reason Michael Jackson was the King of Pop. People also may rate based on personal allegations, but the music stands apart. You can’t deny the impact he had on the music industry. Truly an icon.
I’m very new to trip hop, but this Massive Attack album seems like a stellar representation of the genre.
Great album. Has my favorite song by The Clash. I forgot until the very last track. What a great way to end an album!
The world needs this album to exist.
Pure rock n roll
Do I vote based on the fact that this has some the best 80’s rock songs or do I vote based on the fact that it isn’t really my style of music and will probably never actively put this album on? I’ll go for a 4-star because I can’t give an album less that has so many classic songs. Plus Jump and Panama are two of my favorite 80’s songs.
I knew I liked some Public Enemy songs, but I forgot how good these guys were! When we talked about great rappers, why isn’t Chucky D’s name brought up more? This album was powerful and angry and yet musically excellent .
I really love this album and it started something amazing and beautiful and tragic. It also contains my favorite Pixie song. But Dolittle and later records feel more 5 star to me. This one could be 5, for sure. And the album is beloved. But for me: Surfer Rosa: 4 Dolittle: 5
While it’s very poppy, I felt like this album had a few moments of genius. But overall not my style.
This album didn’t age well. 2 stars for the 2 songs I enjoyed. I thought “Kim” was never going to end. Longest 6 minutes of my life! I do recognize the skill of Eminem and what he did in the industry. But this album is painful to listen to at times.
Not my vibe but it was also cool to discover two of these tracks (at least) have been sampled, most notably by De La Soul in Eye Know and also Deja Vu (Uptown Baby) by Lord Tariq and Peter Gunz
Such an insanely influential albu
I was really surprised how much I enjoyed this album
Great example of the genre
This album kicked ass
