This album is no longer in the latest editions of the book, and I can't say I disagree.
All songs are the same, raw production, Lemmy cannot sing, frivolous lyrics, five stars!
This album has been removed from the latest editions of the book. Enjoyed it a lot still. I used to not care about Muse much, feels quite strange I’m about to rate it 5*! 4.5/5
80 albums in, reluctantly my first 1 star… but it was so boring and bland, at least musically, and the lyrics also didn’t do anything for me.

It's funk! Not my style, but sounded nice.
A bit too slow and mellow. Might grow on me though.
Felt like many random songs just thrown together. I cannot understand all the glowing reviews this one got.
I suppose this was a very influential album at the time, but I didn’t really like it.
After listening to it a second time on my hifi setup, I actually liked it.
Sounds so heavy for 1972! Great raw, live album. Removed one star because some songs are dragging on for far too long.
I liked the concept of the album, but the music itself, not so much. It's mostly beats and vocals, and there wasn't a single memorable melody that I want to go back and listen to. I think I liked the interludes the most...
This album is turning 40 this year… but they are all dead, sadly. A lot of energy here, and short, fast, catchy tracks. Might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but I loved it.
I really liked some songs, but overall the album seemed a needlessly too long.
Not a masterpiece, but was a lot of fun listening to.
All songs are the same, raw production, Lemmy cannot sing, frivolous lyrics, five stars!
I'd heard of Nick Drake for about 15 years now, but somehow never got around to listening. Overwhelmingly emotional album... not really my typical genre, but it left quite the mark.
Love Pink Floyd, but didn’t manage to get into the Syd stuff so far…
3.5 / 5
I liked it, but I also don’t think I’ll be coming back soon
Didn't like it as much as Happy Sad. A bit too much 60s folk rock in this list...
Did not resonate with me at all… At least the recording and production were good.
Didn’t know this band, what a pleasant surprise!
Reminds me of Oasis, but without the catchy songs.
3.5
I expected to hate this one, but not so much in the end.
80 albums in, reluctantly my first 1 star… but it was so boring and bland, at least musically, and the lyrics also didn’t do anything for me.

This album is no longer in the latest editions of the book, and I can't say I disagree.
When I listen to albums so carefully, while reading the lyrics, I have the tendency to find faults that I never knew were there. But won't matter this time, what a great debut album!
Couldn't get past the chicken-like vocals. Sounded like inter-dimensional cable in Rick & Morty. Instrumentals were interesting though...
For some reason I can’t stand indie stuff from my 20s. This one was hard to sit through. Only my 2nd 1* in 125 albums.
Never heard of Orange Juice before, though I did know Edwyn Collins. There are a few nice tracks, but I don't think I'll be listening to this again soon.

I enjoyed Hounds of Love, but this one, not so much...
This album is no longer in the book.

Cheesy but fun!
This album has been removed from the latest editions of the book. Enjoyed it a lot still. I used to not care about Muse much, feels quite strange I’m about to rate it 5*! 4.5/5
This album was only in the 2018 edition of the list, it is removed for the 2021 one.
No longer in the latest editions of the book. Everybody has already heard the good songs on this album, and the rest isn’t worth it imo.
Didn’t like it as much as Parklife.
Not as terrible as it’s made to be. There are two different lineups on each half, and I liked the first side more.
Tjú tjú
Needed more than one listen to really appreciate.
I’m going to be a bit generous, but here we go. 4.5 / 5

I liked the second half much more.
Can’t believe Bad Company is in the list, but Free is not. 3.5/5
Quite bland. Would give 3*, but there’s a 1* douchebag tax.
Sounds quite atypical for this list, never even heard of Can although I live in Germany…
So far my favorite Neil Young album on this list.

3.5 Sometimes this list is strange, there’s this album, but Mezzanine isn’t.
This was super fun!
No longer in the book. Wasn't that bad tho :D
No longer in the book.
Felt a bit like a chore to get through, even at under 40 minutes.
I expected something bland and boring, and it didn't disappoint in that regard.

One of the biggest albums of my teenage years. Didn’t like it much then, don’t like it much now either.
I don’t quite like U2, but this album was excellent.

This was hard to listen through, even though I suspect with more listens I'd get more into it. But it's too dark to dig deeper into right now. 3.5/5

I don't think I ever listened to Venom, didn't think they'd be so silly! 3.666 / 5
A bit too long. 3.5/5
This was one of the weirdest albums so far.
I didn't quite like NIN until I saw them live, by chance (and afterwards 3 more times, on purpose). I still think prefer their live sound to the records, but nevertheless this is a great album. Strangely I never listened to it in full before.
This was quite impressive, if maybe a bit too long. I wish all albums would fit on a single LP.
Should have split this in two days.
This album was still in the 2018 edition of the book, but I can't find it in the 2021 edition.
Managed to find more than half of the album between Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube. Normally I’d try to listen to the whole album, but it has been removed from the book, so I’ll make an exception.
wooooooooo weeeeeee waaaaaaaaah
Another one that is no longer in the book. 3.5 / 4
Another one that is no longer in the book.
Also this one was removed from the latest editions of the book. 3.5/5
Bland, but at it least it was short (the original LP is 27 mins)
I was wondering whether I should give this 2* just before the vocalizations of "Swift as the Wind" started.
Too long and samey, but it wasn't that bad.
3.5/5 Going to round up to 4 because I'm into HiFi this is one of the best recorded albums ever. Music is a bit too bland for my taste.
3.5/4
It's not very typical of this book to select a band's sleekest / most commercially successful albums, but they did in this case. This is metal at its commercial peak, and one my teenager self's favorites. Listening to it now, some tracks are a bit cheesy, but... five stars will do.
3.5/5
Interesting and weird, but the novelty wore off after about 5-10 minutes. Still, happy to know that this exists. I would have never known if not for this book.

The most voted review says that album is too long. That's because the English version if followed by the French version lol.

Another day, another Elvis Costello album that must be heard before one gets killed by death.

I generally find live albums quite enjoyable (I know it’s not common sentiment) and this one was no exception.
I think this one could so bad it’s actually good. My partner asked me if I have to listen to this in the living room, which isn’t something that happens very often, 600 albums in.
3.5/5
For those complaining that it shouldn’t be in the book - it has been removed in the newer editions.
3.5/5
Nice background music.

Some consider this to be the best album of all time. So I started off with high expectations, but unfortunately it didn't do much for me... 2.5/5
Want *that* bad, come on!
No longer in the book. Bland alternative, and a bit too long.
2.5/5
Hallowed Be Thy Name is one of my all time favorite songs. I remember downloading various live versions of it 25 years on dial-up and impatiently listening to the partly downloaded files. Invaders is quite a bad opener though, one of the worst Maiden songs imo. Not very happy that for many people doing this list, it'll be the first Maiden song they ever hear. I'm still going to give it 5*.
Finally something interesting to discover.
My favorite part was the "Give Up the Funk" reference. Looks like this album was removed in the 2021 edition of the book.
There are quite a few 90s UK electronica albums in this list, this one has been one the best so far.
3.5/5
Country is my worst genre on this list so far, but I enjoyed this one.
2h+ of live Metallica, with an orchestra even, oh no!
Three Tim Buckley albums in this list is a bit unnecessary imo.
3.5/5
This album was briefly in the book, but it has been removed in the latest editions. 3.5/5
Didn’t expect to like this so much.
2.5/5
Sounds like being in some artsy space in Berlin!
The Spotify link is wrong (can’t find it there at all), so the ratings might be of another album.
Luckily in this case I don't have to worry about separating The Man from the art, as I find both annoying.
I guess now I know why I can’t name a single AM song.

Got this just 2 days after the 20 year anniversary edition was released, which I was planning to listen to anyway. I was 21 when this album came out and I didn’t care for it. I discovered it properly this year, and now I think it’s one of my favorite albums ever. One hour that flows so well is quite rare. And I got to hear it played live in its entirety just a few months ago!

Not bad, but too long and a bit generic.

3.5/5 The first disc is awesome, the second one is experimental noise and makes the album too long. Still will round up to 4*.
Knowing only their older stuff, didn’t expect something like AC/DC. A bit generic, but I found it enjoyable.

Finally something to lower my 50s average rating!
Were two albums really necessary?
A bit bland and samey.
Another album that was removed from the book. 2.5 / 5
2.5/5
Must have been removed in the 2021 edition, couldn’t find it in the book. Could hear Nick Drake influences, but not quite there.
Would've been a 2, but I'm gonna give it +1 for the Tracey Thorn collab.
I was expecting I’d enjoy this more.
Finally something exciting, I was getting a bit jaded with this.
3.5 / 5
While it is an important album, and Syd was very important at the beginning of Pink Floyd, that doesn't mean that I have to like it.
The top review says that it’s “indistinguishable from any other Britpop LP out there”. This is not Britpop and sounds nothing like. But I agree that it’s pretty bad.
Being a double album made it a harder listen.
3.5/5
Not as bad as the reviews here would suggest.
I was wondering before listening, if it's their best album how come I don't know any of the songs? So now I know why.
In the book, this album is bundled together with Gollege Girl by Bappi Lahiri: https://open.spotify.com/album/0z1eaNtpezCc1OEClb6Wd0 But I think it's because they used to only be available on the same CD, and I have the feeling that the authors would have included only Shalimar.
3.5/5
Feels like Lana del Rey sounds a bit like them.
3.5/4
Interesting, I never listened to this album before. It's almost like a missing 80s Metallica album with different vocals.

I listened to The Wall a few times before, and going back to it I didn't expect I'd give it 5 stars. And I think the reason for that is that I never until now listened to it on decent equipment.
