The YardbirdsWow! I was aware, but not familiar with The Yardbirds. So good. Hippy rock with blues roots blended into a beautiful album.

Amazing album. The album that changed Led Zeppelin. Stairway is their most famous song and its successful journey started a change from driving blues inspired tracks (Black Dog) to long sweeping epics (Kashmir). Both phases are represented on this album, but my heart it’s always pulled towards the early albums. This however, doesn’t negate the greatness of this album.
Gritty and raw. Like someone took the peaceful feeling of hippy rock and ran it through a filter filled with stale beer and cigarette butts. Not the punk I know by sound, but contains the raw emotion of punk and laid bare the emotional grit it would come to be known for. Short blasting songs bookend the long and erie and ethereal sounds of “We Will Fall” provides the clearest connection to real hippy rock, layered with strings and a haunting refrain, it provides a respite from the more traditional length punk songs. Tracks like “Ann” connect The Stooges to rock predecessors The Doors. “No Fun” challenges the conventional wisdom by substituting hand claps for traditional drum kit, providing a lighter feel despite the heaviness of the lyrics.
A simple and well-made album. Have a close personal connection to this album as this was the first album my father bought after I was born. He tells a tale of listening to this album nonstop for the two weeks after I was born while he was taking care of me at home. Paul Simon having his first chance to be on his own, his music became a little funky or a little groovy, a little less folk, singer, songwriter and got blues and world music and it is really appreciated.
This album is a lot. All over the place. Some of my absolute favorite songs by Hendrix, but also brief glimpses into what Hendrix may have become had he not passed at an early stage of his career: an experimental jazz and blues jam musician who played for himself and not for others. Watchtower and Voodoo Child (Slight Return) are rock anthems, and always warrant a repeat during listening.
Fantastic album. Willie breaking from the country mold and making something soft and sweet. An intimate set of sweet songs that feel like you’re listening in a small quiet coffee shop on a calm and breezy Sunday morning.
What the hell is this?!?! Nick Cave has always been different, and this is certainly different. I appreciate that they are “doing something”, but I can’t figure out or understand what that thing is. Is it Punk? Rock? Nothing?
One of my favorite songs from a group I don’t connect with other wise. College Radio rock is not a big thing to me. A couple tracks are pleasing, but over the soundscape is broad and confusing.
Amazing album. Each song serves to build upon the previous and makes for a listening experience that gives me a new experience with each listen.
Happy and bouncy House music. Has the eternally epic Groove is in the Heart featuring Bootsie and Q-Tip and was a personal favorite. The whole album contains an effervescent mix of dance, disco, R&B, and hip hop. A pleasant listen.
Amazing album by my favorite group. Perfect in so many ways.
Nice simple singer/songwriter album. Classic tracks, pleasant ballads, and jamming blues inspired make for a jaunty listen.
Easy to see, despite this not yet being the Queen they would become, the Queen I love. Fun album, but also explains why I gravitate to their singles.
One song after another on the album is fantastic. First time I listened to this album in its entirety and I couldn’t have enjoyed it more. Beautiful, thought provoking, and filled with blissful memories (2013 Red Sox).
Easy listening supreme. Nothing objectionable, yet nothing noteworthy.
Amusing and 100% enjoyable album. Never have I intentionally out on a single song from this album, but through covers and soundtrack appearances, I knew basically all of the tracks. Really a fun listen.
I’m be of the last great albums by a great bad before they lost their mojo. This is towards the end of their amazing run of albums in the late 80’s. Love the long songs with long operatic introductions.
Garage band blues! Fun album. A new band discography for me to explore.
Not sure what that was.
Pure musical joy. The sound that made the Beatles. Absolutely love this version of the Beatles.
A raucous bouncy punk album with a consistent vibe and feel. Know who Sleater-Kinney want to be after listening. Vocals don’t connect, but like the spirit and soul.
A transition for The Temptations? This feels like an album with two souls: traditional Motown of the 60’s (second half) and first half is their best Sly attempt. Funky and political, there are some fantastic songs.
Perfect Christmas album.
New to me, and couldn’t be happier to experience. A well crafted rock album that warrants more listens to explore the themes presented. Great listen.
Excellent debut album. Wide ranging songs. Missing the banger you’d get from later albums, but more of the classic hippy rock that made me love him from the start.
Dance music that has some notable songs as it attempts to blend rap and dance. Owned it when it came out and it never fully clicked and that has not changed.
Makes me wonder why I don’t listen to more David Bowie. Always like his songs and he is clearly an artist that focuses on albums, not songs. A pleasant listen.
Beautiful soul album with elevating touches of jazz and hip hop.
Electric pop duo who can play it in every genre on one album. Nothing earth shattering, nothing offensive. Simple and clean.
Great listen. Like many I’m sure, I only know this band as a one hit wonder. It couldn’t be further from the truth. Songs across this album are bouncy and full of life and energy with the driving rhythm section and uplifting horns. The track “Geno” in particular is tremendous.
Ohh MJ! The one that lead to Thriller. A head bobbing blend of Soul, R&B, and disco. This album may be the link between disco and 80’s pop. What a fun listen.
What a joy! The definition of an album. No song would fit another album. No change in track order could be made. The final burst of tracks, creating an enchanting medley, seals the album with a charming red bow.
All over the place. Sounds at time like a 2020 bad trying to sound like a band from 1980.
Not all things can be winners. A couple great songs, but nothing earth shattering.
An obviously well constructed album that just misses being my type of thing.
Exceptional. What it must have been like to listen to this when it came out with tracks of people speaking! Paul Simon is a true genius.
Wow! You can see why this is always on the list of greatest albums.
Not my favorite RHCP album, but still pretty good. Clean and polished. Some all time anthems for sure. And Flea as always is the highlight.
He will always be a favorite. He will always have songs that don’t quite his a cord, but those like Imagine will live with me always.
Something new. Some parts I liked, but something missed. There are moments it reminds me of Portishead
Arguably on the Hip Hop Mt Rushmore. Some of the intermissions are dated, but the music holds up. Snoop enters the world of music in a way few have, and Lady of Rage makes me wonder why she never made it.
Sonic storm of lost love, pain, and wanting to be oneself. Fabulous work of art.
Such a well constructed album. Love Beck. Love this album.
A different vibe than the first two Portishead albums, which I am extremely familiar with. Some tracks connected, but there is something different that misses the mark. They no longer have the vibe of hiding in a dark room, poring out your soul to the heavens.
My first Velvet Underground album, and it won’t be my last. A simple album with beautiful melodies.
MI’m re swing that the albums mom listened to, but still beautiful
A well constructed album of music I don’t jive with.
Beautiful and easy to like.
Amazing start to finish. A simple story told in a complex and compelling manner. An all time classic.
It’s to dance music.
Funk, Rock, Blues, R&B all blended into a sonic wave that enthralls the listener. Tremendous music.
Yacht Rock supreme. Chill vibes and fun listen, yet nothing special.
Brilliant. Songs of struggle, life, and love. Most artists can’t make a 40 minute album of music and Wonder gives more than twice that as the albums draws one in and paints vivid pictures through the perfectly interlaced rhythms and melodies.
Well crafted hip hop beats.
When I say I like real punk, this is what I mean. Simple, short songs with a driving rhythm. Love the Ramones.
All time great first rap album. The interlude skits are dated, but the songs are immortal.
Wow! I was aware, but not familiar with The Yardbirds. So good. Hippy rock with blues roots blended into a beautiful album.
Not my thing. Fine overall.
A masterpiece.
Beautiful music.
Classic rock at it best. Not an album for any mood. Fits perfectly into certain time and places.
A sultry mix of soul, jazz, and rock. The personal tales are riveting
Wonder 70’s soul.
Beautiful. Al Green crossed with James Taylor. Something to explore further.
