The one with A Forest, Play for Today and M! Some of the other songs are a little more down-tempo, so gotta be in the right mood to really embrace those Back in 1980 I played this quite a bit, and still have it in my rotation

Nothing bad here, just not my thing, and thanks to CSI, there's a couple of tracks that I never need to here again this lifetime
Its very difficult to be objective about an album that I've been singing along with for my whole life! Favorites have changed slightly over time - right now I'm enjoying Ringo's singing on "Friends" and George's "Without You" together with strings on "Day in the Life", and every bit of Ringo working the drums It was a suprise to see that Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields, which were released only three months earlier, are in fact not included in this album I still believe that ditching "Rita" would have made this collection perfect! A gem! - 5/5
I remember this being one of the major musical events of the late 70's, when this stadium rock opera was going head to head with disco, punk and new wave Hearing this again now, its amazing to hear the "samples", classic lines (And the worms ate into his brain / When I'm a good dog they sometimes throw me the bone in / Wanna take a bath? / Does anybody here remember Vera Lynn? / Time to go!) and influences that came from this album and to remember what craftsmen these musicians were Listening in 2025 with good headphones and a quality feed, I am picking up much more of the rhythm section than the days when I played the cassette on my boombox, and also really enjoying the wonderful drum work that is so often just programmed in music today Most albums have tracks that skipped through, and in my mind nearly half of The Wall's 26 tracks fall into that category which is fine as I'm more interested with individual songs rather than the overall story, so stopping after Comfortably Numb works just fine Yup - awesome!
It's clear I'm not the intended audience for this album Its not terrible, but I dont get why its included in this list It feels like I have heard all the component elements somewhere else, and done much better I'm going to get a cup of coffee now - I will have completely forgotten this album by the time I return In a few minutes

Willie does easy listening cover songs Feels like being trapped in a Mall for Seniors Unchained Melody should have been so much better Sadly reveals what a limited vocal range he has In fact largely spoken rather than singing Nothing for me here
I have been hearing SY songs since the beginning, but never really warmed to this album I did enjoy many moments - suprising sounds, phrases and arrangements, but no one entire song here really hit an emotional chord with me Teen Age Riot came the closest, but still not a tune that I'm going to want to seek out for another listen any time soon Songs from other albums have made it into my collection over the years, but this one is a swing and a miss for me - I vote for EVOL, Goo or Washing Machine over Daydream Nation every time
I remember this being one of the major musical events of the late 70's, when this stadium rock opera was going head to head with disco, punk and new wave Hearing this again now, its amazing to hear the "samples", classic lines (And the worms ate into his brain / When I'm a good dog they sometimes throw me the bone in / Wanna take a bath?
Some fantastic beats and great trumpets are featured in this album to create some really catchy tunes, showing the quality CH can achieve But the lyrical focus on gun violence (Kill a Man / Hole in the Head), drug culture and disposable attitude towards women is really not my thing, then or now
Niggas smoking shooting and rolling with hoes Yeah, yeah Nothing new or original here, lyrically or musically
The song Hotel California is of course the stand-out track on this album, with Life in the Fast Lane a distant second, with nothing else being particularly memorable A great representation of AOR/MOR music from the mid 70's, but for me the harmonies and guitar phrases the Eagles use on this album have not faired well when heard again almost 50 yerars later
OMG - that voice is just too much This sounds like music to accompany water-boarding and sleep depravation interregation sessions A hard NO! 0/5
What a great voice and selection of styles on this strong debut album that still sounds fresh 25 years later!
Always funny to hear the sound of a vinyl record crackle on a streaming track! Hearing Novocane For the Soul again takes me right back to the mid nineties, and still has that fresh sound that has stood the test of time I very much enjoyed hearing this whole album again, and look forward to revisting the rest of the Eels back catalogue
A gem! - 5/5
73 minutes of rap-profanity is not something I wish to experience again 0/5
Something about the Zutons . . . Is just annoying to me Pass
This is odd - listening to an album that my parents danced to when they first met! This my not preferred style of music, but a great energy and passion shines through on these tracks In 1959 there were not many options for post-production editing, so I'm imaging this is pretty close to a live performance for Ray and the band Music from a bygone era - it evokes images of a pianist in a corner of a high end hotel bar
I do remember when Jungle was the Big Thing, for a hot minute, with LTJ Bukem being the King of the Hill Listening again now, I’m wondering what all the fuss was about
I was not familiar with either the artist or the album, but listening to these songs is a one-time event Nothing for me here
Wonderful guitar work and drums on this album While the vocals are also striking, they are sung in his local African language, which is sadly lost on me Another quirk of the collection is there are only four songs - I was certainly hoping for a larger selection to get better aquainted with the artist and the Mbalax style of music
One hell of a voice! Big band music from 1959 is a historical curiosity at this point, and while Ella is a gem in the 1001 album challange, but is not going to find a place in my collection
Oh Wow - its been more than 30 years since I listened to this album the whole way through I now I remember why - half the songs develop like a fine wine over time and have a special place in my collection, whereas the other half dont quite hit the same way, which to be honest is still a pretty good run rate for any album! For me, this was a solid end to a great 10-year run of Cure LP's - after this point they no longer suprised me
One of those albums that both draws upon influences from the early 70's while also providing a roadmap for many bands in the years to come Personality Crisis & Jet Boy are the tracks I enjoyed most, but their particular shouting/singing style has always prevented me from liking them more
As I occasionally give the Greatest Hits album a play, so thought I had an idea of what to expect here I was quite wrong, and not in a good way Voices of Old People- seriously? Who would ever want to listen to that over and over again? Mrs Robinson is not a favorite of mine, so basically nothing of interest here Most of the album just made me feel sleepy, so maybe there is an alternative use for the collection 1/5
I usually prefer the sound quality of studio albums over live ones, but this does highlight that 1970's Who must have been quite awesome to see! I've never been a Who fan, and unfortunately nothing here won me over 2/5
Soul/Funk is just not my thing . . .
Afro-Cuban jazz from the 50's! Cool to hear it one-time, but it didnt hook me enough to play it again
Wow - more than 42M people listen to Coldplay on Spotify each month! Aside from today, I'm not one of them, and based on hearing this album, never will be
This the the album with Supernaut! A few great tunes on here, keeping Black Sabbath on the path of pioneers of metal
A surprise (to me) band in the 1001 album challenge Nice to hear trumpets in the mix from time to time I do prefer the songs with lyrics to the instrumentals, and I can see a few of these making it into my collection
Early 60's Jazz keyboards - another treat from the 1001 album challenge! Not my bag at all, but glad to have the opportunity to hear it
First time hearing this artist was an unexpected mix scf-fi samples and background music to blend with rapping Interesting, but not really for me
Another band that is both new to me and slightly misses the target for my musical tastes Glad to have heard it, but wont be adding to my collection
"You only call me when you're feeling depressed" - yup, exactly what I expected from 90's era Mozza! Of course I am trying to make the mental shift from the Smiths, but compared to say Headmaster Ritual or There Is a Light, I'm finding the music a little too muted and the singing less adventurous Billy Bud was the surprise stand-out track for me, but overall it feels there is less emotional comittment in this collection
I live my life in a way that avoids exactly this type of countrified 60's R&B The least interesting entry in the 1001 Album challenge so far Nope - 0/5
Most of the album is in French or Spanish, which just leaves me cold because of the lanuage barrier The song King of Bongo Bong is a funny little earworm, but not enough to win me over to this artist
A big orchestral sound from the late 60's which is fun to hear, but I can t get onboard with Scott's singing voice or choice of lyrics I can imagine this playing at a senior retirement home, so he's probably going for an older demographic than me
This was the album that made me realize Coldplay is really not my thing The voice and the over-produced sound grate on me more and more each time I hear it I really dont get how they are so popular . . .
Oh, its Jazz :-( Thanks . . . but NO
Glad to see Hole on this list, but I would certainly have put Live Through This ahead of Celebrity Skin Over the course of three albums Hole have gone from Teenange Whore to Malibu, and while things have become a little easier on the ear during that journey, it feels like maybe a few too many rough spots have been ground down to make this more of a mass-market product for teenage girls who like to dabble with a rebellious look at the weekend
The voice just doesn't work for me PASS
Some high quality guitar work in evidence here, with Black Magic Woman being the only song I was familiar with An interesting snapshot of 1970's guitar sounds Not my bag at all, but great for a one-time listen
This artist and album are a real suprise - not at all what I was expecting Played it a few times already, and it seems to be growing on me more each time Interesting . . .
Spotify is describing this band as Jazz-Inflected Prog-Rock That makes it a hard NO for me I knew the late 60's were a strange time, but the 1001 album challenge is really throwing up some artists who's music has not aged well over the last 50 years!
Dreary adjective dull, bleak, and lifeless; depressing.
Whenever a Niel Young album is put on, the question at the back of my mind is which Niel Young is going to show up this time? Ragged Glory get the Crazy Horse guys to plug in and wallow in the electric guitars, feedback and all F*!#in Up is the stand out track from a collection that is not among the albums I reach for when I want to get my Niel on It's ok, but I prefer Niel's acoustic stuff
Easy listening foreign-language music Not my thing at all
Yes, okay, Weather With You is an absolute classic But I'm not hearing anything else on this collection that comes close, except maybe the Beatles-style Four Seasons song, making it a bit of a forgetable album
A polished offerring, a dozen years into REM's career While I like REM, and this collection certainly ticks all the expected boxes, it is generally the earlier albums that I reach for these days That said, Everybody Hurts is a real gem and shows that REM was not just churning out radio-friendly tunes for the cash and chart fame Drive, Sidewinder, Nightswimming & Man on the Moon round out this album
Not my thing, but pretty cool
This is the album featuring the classic "Take Five" song, with some nice vibes filling out the rest of the collection Its easy piano-based jazz from the 50's
This album . . . 30,000,000 units sold, almost seven years in the UK album chart That MTV song, with Sting on guest vocals And the things that gets me most of all - it still sounds good today! While I still prefer the first three albums, this collection is a phenomena
Beefheart on the 1001 Album challenge! I was reading a blog post the other day saying that only after the passage of 40 years had the listener been able to finally appreciate Captain Beefheart I'm not quite there yet, but these days i'm actually enjoying Sure 'Nuff, Zig Zag, Plastic Factory, Call On Me and I'm Glad But the whole album - thats still a step too far!
I'm not really sure why, but this one is not working for me
Metallica was never my particular flavor of metal I'm gonna stick with Twisted Sister, AC/DC, Van Halen, Motorhead
Nine Inch Nails have been creating their particular brand of music for over 35 years But I have always preferred listening to individual tracks rather than a whole album at one time Same with this collection Tasty, but best in small bites!
A big beautiful noise from the early 90's!
The album with Silver, Killing Moon and Seven Seas - songs which have stood the test of time Recording in Paris with a 35-piece orchestra takes them far away from their Liverpudlian roots, but also propelled them into a unique place in the early 80's music scene
Somebody To Love and White Rabbit are the stand-out songs from this collection, showcasing what an important contribution is made by Grace Slick That album cover though . . .
So this is where the legend began Not my favorite album, but you can hear all the key elements that would morph into the definitive Sabbath sound
Late 60's acid casualty Nah . . . just not feeling it . . . One of the lowest-selling items in the Columbia catalogue I agree!
Interesting sounds! I'm treating this as pretty much an instrumental album, as there are no vocals in english Which is a shame, as it feels this album could have been absolutely huge if Ry Cooder had shared some of the vocal work
For me, this album contains interesting material that needed a lot more work to be ready for release These sound like demo sessions where ideas are simply being thrown out for consideration, rather than for our listening pleasure
Jello Biafra's vocal style has always got in the way of me being able to enjoy DK songs
Rebel Without a Pause, Bring the Noise and Dont Believe the Hype are the stand-out tracks that still hit hard 35 years later
Growing up hearing the chart singles, its a surprise to dig into this album and hear the blues roots the Stones were built upon, such as Prodigal Son No Expectations is a gem, and together with the classic Sympathy for the Devil and Street Fighting Man, they stand above the remaining seven tracks on this collection
Not my preferred flavor of music, but some great lyrical work here
Its a nice-enough sound, but one of the best albums ever? - I dont see it
Nice production and a great voice, but the songs dont really grab me in the way I expected from /Beyonce
Dont think I ever heard this album the whole way through before The Pixies sound never really became a fixture in my collection Pleased to hear again Where Is My Mind and Gigantic, but I'm starting to think the Death To The Pixies is all I need ffom this band
There was a period in the eighties when having a violin section in a song was considered a necessary element Time has not been kind to fiddle players, and hearing this album again makes me a little nostalgic for those times When is comes to Dexy's, I'm really just interested in the Greatest Hits, and didnt find any surprises buried in this collection
Spotify mentions this Brazillian composer as "infusing samba with soul music" Thanks. No. Bye.
Not really feeling the Prog-Rock vibe
Yup, this album was exactly what I expected! But it is odd listening to the Pogues alone, in the morning over a coffee, rather than in a crowded bar towards the end of the evening RIP Shane
Great to hear this album again Home to three of their classic tunes - Californication, Scar Tissue and Otherside
A little too mellow for my tastes Except for the guitar work on Summer Breeze, which is fabulous!
Awesome stuff Just me for me!
Relax, Two Tribes, Power of Love and even Born to Run The 1984 memories are flooding back Nice to hear again, but I dont live here anymore . . .
I dont really like Robert Wyatt's voice . . .
No my fave Bowie album - too much sax, not enough guitar But it still gave the world Young Americans, Fame & Across the Universe
Sure there is talent here, but I can only take so much of the shouting vocals in my headphones My musical education began with punk and new wave - the antidote to this kind of 60's/70's MOR rock So it was never going to work for me
Not quite what I had expected Not hearing anything that I want to play again
Run to the Hills has been a fav since '82 Good to hear the whole album again
Creedence time - bring on the Bad Moon Rising! I'm surprised to see how many songs come in under the 3 minute mark Nice to hear the album all the way through, but a greatest hits collection is really all I need, and the other album tracks are just not my bag
Latin, Salsa & Trombone No Thank You
The Single Paper Planes is the standout track of this album The rest is cool, but no more ear-worms in this collection
Falls a little short compared to their first album, and hard to agree with the decision to leave off How Soon Is Now on the UK and remastered editions
Glad to see the Black Keys featured in this list Good to hear them again Maybe three standout tracks in this collection - but not quite enough to carry a whole album
I cant listen to Kraftwerk anymore with thinking of the syntheziser scene with Ross performing his sound "poems" on Friends Groundbreaking at the time for sure, but in 2025, it just doesn't hit the same
Sadly, its always been the case that the sounds that come out of Bjork's mouth are not the ones that me ears want to hear With Spotify, I also got to read some of the lyrics for the first time - that did not make her appreciate Bjork's songs any more Me and Bjork broke up a long time ago, with no real hope of a reconciliation
I also want to like Supergrass, but end up thinking of them as a second-rate version of Ash, which is quite unfair, but that's where me head goes They can certainly bang out a good tune which I'm happy to nod along to on the radio, but dont have any space for in my collection
The vibe from many 50's movies This collection is missing many of my fave EB tracks, but still great to hear in 2025
Never heard this album before Not bad! Good to hear 'Hard to Handle' again
No really iconic tracks on this collection, such as Hey Joe / Watchtower / Voodoo While I certainly prefer the albums before and after, its still good to have it pop up on the 1001 album challenge
I'll be honest, my heart sank a little when I saw it was the Pet Shop Boys today - mainstream chart acts are not really my thing But . . . I'm all-in on the process, so here goes It was actually quite fun to listen to, and I'm going to be humming Its A Sin for the rest of the day Putting aside the really boring and dated drum patterns, the production was great Just 10 tracks, but at least half of them are Winners! So far the 1001 Album challenge has provided few surprises, but very happy to have finally listened to this collection!
I was not expecting the heavy Country vibe! Thanks, but No!
There are some great sounds that have been created for this album, but I'm not hearing any actual songs or tunes that I would ever want to listen to again
I have noticed that so many albums from the 70's and 80's just dont stand the test of time Listening to the Talking Heads now in 2025, things are hitting very differently from how it did back in the day Never a huge TH fan, but hearing this again is a little underwhelming
A live Jazz album from 1956 - very far away from my musical tastes, but I will admit some of the sounds here are pretty cool - I just cant entertain the idea of listening to the whole album without regularly skipping forward
There are lots of sounds and pieces of LCD-SS that I really like, just when all put together into a song, it always misses the mark for me
I would choose Nick Cave over Leonard Cohen when I'm looking to explore these emotions
I did not appreciate the heavy production and unnecessary orchestra I was really just hoping the the man and the piano to be tugging at my heart-strings!
Bob from 1997 - this is an interesting change from the usual Highway 61 Revisited era I'm going to be listening to this one again - not something I have often in this 1001 Album challange :-) But Bob, that last rack is wayyy to long!
I really liked Uncle Tupelo's sound, so it has been very frustrating to me that Wilco never quite hit the same way for me
Happy Friday - A nice noisy treat for the end of the week! In the End is of course the highlight of the collection, but the other songs are surprisingly strong Very glad to have finally heard the whole album
I am so happy Alice is in the world, doing his particular thing I cherish quite a few of his albums, but in 2025, most I dont play too often For this album, I would recommend the Deluxe Reissue version, for the extra outtakes, which I really enjoyed hearing again
Only 10 songs here, but it does include Chain of Fools and Natural Woman A real pleasure to hear these classics again I'm going to sneak some of these onto the playlists my daughters listen to, and I'm interested to get their reactions!
Surprised to see this one as the Nick Cave to make it into the 1001 Album list Or maybe it's because the Nick Cave sound has moved on so much from the earlier albums I have always found Nick's albums need repeated plays to reveal and assimilate their emotional depth, and the single play-through today was not nearly enough!
I remember really liking the 1998 3 EP's album It even featured in the movie High Fidelity! Honestly, I thought they broke up after that Listening to Heroes, it does not live up to the potential of that earlier collection Pass
The handful of singles that came out in the late 70's were fantastic, and its great to hear this album in its entirety at last Good Times is of course the main song
I have come to realize that its Roxy's third act that I like the most, and early albums with Brian Eno are just not for me Virginia Plain is the stand out track here, one that never really appealed to me much Now I realize why this album is not in my collection
Never know what to expect when digging into a Bowie album I gave it a fair listen, but Jean Genie is all I need here Bit of a step down from the previous year's Ziggy Stardust
Once you get past Mt Soul, there's not a lot to love on this album
Not my choice of music at all Its not bad, just not for me
A real heavy-weight in the greatest albums of all time! Even though there are a couple of weaker tracks here, I find it easy to listen to the album the whole way through with hitting the skip button! But seriously, what's up with the balls between Mick's legs? A little cheesy in places, but still a classic then and now - 5 out of 5
Enjoyed hearing this for the first time, but not enough to add it to my collection
Wow! really interesting recording. Starts with the classic intro question - Are you going to be part of the problem or are you going to be a part of the solution? This MC5 live album clearly pays its dues to rock and roll history, but also points the way towards a punk and new wave sound that would emerge in future years taking inspiration from this band
If you are a fan of the early 60's Phil Spector sound, then this is required Christmas listening. Christmas albums dont really feature in my collection, but I have to admit there are some great performances here, that are as good as, or even better than the more recent efforts you will hear in every mall and restaurant at this time of year
This album was HUGE when it came out! Rio, Hungry Like the Wolf, Save a Prayer defined the musical landscape in 1982, and still hold up in 2025.
While Marc Bolan may have a few painful rhyming lyrics, this album is still great. In addition to Get It On, more than half of this collection are strong tunes that hold up well in 2025 - I have Jeepster stuck in my head right now!. I love the cover art, but this is not the insane guitar trip the picture suggests. Very cool
Amazibg albulm - still sounds fresh in 2025. 10 incredible tracks that showcase the 70's Led Zep sound. A well deserved classic!
The Devil's Haircut album! For me Beck is just about the singles, and this collection confirmed that opinion - no happy surprises beyond the tracks I was already familiar with
Good to know this album exists Next time I have some serious insomnia, this will be my new go-to solution During the daytime, I'll pass
So Lost In Music is a wonderful and unexpected cover of the 70's disco song, and the crown jewel of this collection. But there are many other gems in this 12 song collection that 32 years later are still bringing a smile to my lips RIP MES
Weird that this is the FF album to make the list Its not the one I reach for when I want some Foo in my life Weenie Beenie is one of the less commercial cuts, and probably my fav here
Trying to ignore their history and back catalogue when listening to this, which is difficult to do! Not much of the signature harmonies in evidence on this collection Mostly they sounded like other middle of the road soft rock bands from this time Confusing and disappointing
In my opinion, whether is Tom Petty, Steve Earl or others, it feels like there are other artists that do it better, or in a way that resonates more strongly with me than Ryan Interestingly, the most played Ryan song on Spotify is a cover of Oasis' Wonderwall - that sums it up for me Nothing I need to revist here
Yup, this album still works almost 50 years later! A nice surprise to see it pop up on this list, and great to hear it again
Take out the bad language, and maybe we can talk Until them, forget about it
Jazz - not my thing
Enjoyed listening to this, as a snapshot of what was bubbling under the radar in 1966 Kind of like the Kinks meets the Velvet Underground! It's not going to make it to my collection, but cool nevertheless
Straight-forward early 70's rock 'n roll I dont hear anything exceptional on this collection I wonder if their inclusion on this list is driven mainly by the Bowie connection
Both Simple Man and Free Bird appear on this album - songs still featured daily on Classic Rock radio I like the diversity of styles that keeps the sound fresh in this collection Mississippi Kid is a fun inclusion!
While I'm really glad there are people out there exploring these areas of music, its not a genre that I can listen to for more than a few minutes at a time!
Spotify says . . . a hybrid of contry, soul, jazz . . . That sounds you hear is me running for the door ;-(
OMG - Without You is giving me serious flashbacks to hearing this all the time on the radio when I was a kid Coconut sounds like it should have been a Ween song, but google tells me it was featured in Resevoir Dogs Unexpected and funny, I'm not really sure what to make of it I kind-of like it, maybe . . .
1999 - released in 1982! Little Red Corvette and 1999 are the highlights for sure, and the rest can be a little tedious to work through
MJ at 21 years of age, pointing the way to his next step of being a global phenomena with the following album Thriller Quiney Jones taking over as producer helps to set the sound apart from the child superstar of previous years Three solid hits meant this album was everywhere in 1979!
THIS is meant to be one of the best albums of all time - REALLY???? If you like your music with all the sharp edges removed and any real emotion clinically sanitized, them this is exactly what you have been looking for all these years For me, this is a hard NO!
Jack White rarely provides any of what I'm looking for in music This collection is no different No terrible, just nothing for me here
These days, I really dont for this type of language in the music I listen to. Lemar, you are clearly very talented, but this will never for for me
I have always liked Living After Midnight, so it was fun to hear this album after all these years. Flashbacks to the early 80's when Metal and Hard Rock was taking over! Rob Halford was never my fave metal singer, but still quite listenable
Easy listening music for old people
Depeche Mode for me is all about the singles I have no patience for the millions of remix collections or inferior-audio live performance albums I was hoping for some gems hidden on this album, but I found nothing that came close to the very high bar set by the single releases This is certainly not the DM album I would have chosen for this list!
Interesting to hear from a historical perspective, as a snapshot of what was going on in 1960 You can certainly hear some of the influences that were passed down to Hendrix and the Stones But in 2026, I'm never going to reach for this album
Not the best Pretenders album, so surprised to see it on the list. Funny to listen to the expanded version and hear the disparity of the raw live performances against the polished studio tracks. Another band where I love the singles, but find it difficult to dig into the albums
Nope - I never understood why Papa Was a Rolling Stone was such a popular track Kind of like the rest of this album - I dont hear why its rated as one of the best of all time Confusing . . . .
The Search & Destroy album! Heroin rock from the early 70's It's not at all a polished sound, but it possesses a wierd energy that's sort of appealing, and clearly pointed the way for the punk and alternative artists that followed
Just terrible 0/5
Stone cold classic Love it or loathe it, it was everywhere because it took the genre to a whole new level
Take the cover photo as a serious warning of what sort of music can be found in this collection I would not let this in the house 0/5
Crosstown Traffic, Voodoo Chile and Watchtower all feature on this collection Third album from Jimi hits hard, cementing his reputation as a force to be reckoned with!
Its really not my thing But sounded fine
Sorry - I'm not a jazz person, so have to idea of how people enjoy sounds like these
There something there that is both interesting and boring at the same time. As a piece of electronic exploration, it ticks all the right boxes. But as this is now 50+ years old, times have moved on and its a strange and obscure novelty that holds no place in my life
I really like the samples, but the vocal style is not really my bag I was going with 2 stars until 5-Piece Chicken Diner came on - I'll go up to 3 stars because of that madness!
It's clear I'm not the intended audience for this album Its not terrible, but I dont get why its included in this list It feels like I have heard all the component elements somewhere else, and done much better I'm going to get a cup of coffee now - I will have completely forgotten this album by the time I return In a few minutes
Oh look, there's 19 tracks on this album! Oh what, half of them are about a minute of stupid navel-gazing nonsense Oh dear, that voice is tough to listen to Oh no, its prog from 1973! Oh yes, there is the Next button Oh hmm, listened and reviewed in five minutes Oh joy, back to my regular listening
Take a look at the album cover - all the clues are there It's called Groovin' Waistcoat, purple pants, bizarre shirt - victims of the 60's for sure Act on your gut feel - if you are still attrached to vanilla flavor 60's Monkey's wannabees, then go for it For everyone else, move on . . . quickly! This has no place in the 1001 best albums of all time
A country album from 1971 I tried, but I just can't, it hurts too much . . .
Once in a Lifetime and Listen to the Wind are fabulous, but the rest of the collection feels like it's coming from a different and less accessible place A recurring theme for me with TH albums Okay
While I'm glad to have heard it, It's not going to find a place in my collection I would certainly have preferred some vocals in the collection, rather than just instrumentals Its good, just not really something that I need in my life
Some great stuff on this collection, particularly Under the Bridge and Give It Away So its a shame I have never really enjoyed the bass-forward funky sound or the vocal delivery style
Another band I can't help feeling that I should like, but can't quite get there Guitars are just a little repetitive and rather boring Vocals are just the wrong side of grating and annoying Not for me
Tracks 1 - 5 SOLID The rest . . . whatever . . .
Wow I had totally forgotton about these guys Such a treat to hear their energy and anger again!
Well, its all in French, which it tricky because my school-boy level of literacy is not really helping here The orchestra and accordian-heavy music is not for me, but it does a lot to evoke an imagined post-war France vibe Interesting, but I will never willingly listen to this again in my lifetime
The album with Homeward Bound I gotta say, not listened to this since the 70's, and it quickly becomes clear that's really where it belongs When my kids ask about the 60's, I'll be playing them the Beatles, Beach Boys, Phil Spector and now this album as a primer - I look forward to seeing their reaction! Like a fine wine, that did not age well
From my experience with other Can albums, its probably going to take time and repetition to get under the skins of this collection. Right off the bat, the last four tracks are never going to make the grade - way to experimental and unstructured sonic experiments that at time come over as toddlers let loose the play in the music room. But the first three tracks have some really interesting elements that need further exploration - Paperhouse is destined to be a new favorite!
What's Love Got to Do with It - what a track! Both a defining moment from the 80's but also standing the test of time and still sounding amazing in 2026 I was struggling with what rating to give this, and then Better Be Good to Me started, and it was clear this really is a 5-star collection - Enjoy!
With so many NY albums to choose from, some are always going to hit better than others - personally I would go a year either side for a better collection I dont object to this one being here, but surely Everyone Knows This Is Nowhere or Harvest are more deserving of a spot on this list
Props to PS for so effectively shaking off the 60's folk vibe Quite enjoyed listening to this again - not my usual style, but it has a fun energy
Disorder, New Dawn Fades, She's Lost Control - awesome to hear this whole album again Dark emotions instead of punk anger - it stood apart in 1979 and influenced the post-punk and alternative scene that emerged after their transformation into New Order Fabulous!
Radio Free Europe and Talk About the Passion are the gems in this collection While the lest may not reach the same heights, this remains a fantastic first album and signals the greatness ahead
Not a fan of Blur, but this is a little different I really like Clint Eastwood, but the rest of the album is either filler or throwing stuff out there to see what sticks, giving a very uneven feel Ultimately, I just dont get it
Elevator music
Seems a little vanilla after the double chocolate chip fudge brownie performance with the Beatles Proving the theory that Paul needs John, and this new "team" were not up to the challange
Interesting . . . . Yesterday I had to review Wings, and today its another Beatle Oh yes, this is much more where my ears want to be! I heard tell several of these songs were rejected by the Beatles - I'm a little surprised by that because this album is a quality collection!
My college girlfriend loved this one, but I always preferred Rumours Funny to see that not changed over the years I'd probably also put Tango In the Night above Tusk Its ok
A great album - captures the energy of Motorhead very nicely. From 1981, featuring many of their classic tunes - Ace Of Spades, Bomber, Motorhead, together with jet aircraft and siren noises! Nice to hear again
Just great! Surely one of the best live albums ever I real high point in the 1001 Album journey
Hey Ya! is of couse the stand out track, and nothing else on the ablum is quite like it 40 tracks look quite daunting, but a lot of those are intro's or transitions Dracula's Wedding was funny and nice to hear Norah Jones on the album Ultimately, not my thing at all, but glad I gave it a listen
For EaTBM I'm really a singles-only guy, so this was an unusual adventure into a full album Sadly I dont find any hidden gems, but the Expanded 2004 Remaster did include a surprisingly terrible version of The Cutter!
Okay, the song Baby One More Time is a solid gold classic, so I was excited to listen to a whole Britney album for the first time ever! Crazy is bland, and does not sound at all crazy to me Sometimes - just boring Soda Pop - not good - a filler track Things rebound slightly after that but its unimaginitive pure bubblegum pop from here on out If this was on a vinyl record, there would be no reason to play side 2
I'm really not a jazz guy, but lets dive in anyway So What is the opener, which meanders around for nine minutes but never seems to go anywhere The next one does the same, just for slightly longer Same for track three, just slower this time Track four creates some tension with the opening piano part, getting my hopes up a little . . . but no 45 minutes of foreplay, then Miles leave the room
Late career Elvis, but still belting out the ballads with his velvet voice The songs might not be as iconic as earlier albums, but we still get In The Ghetto, Dont Cry Daddy and Suspicious Minds in this collection An obvious must-have for Elvis fans
While this is the album featuring Golden Years, you are much less likely to find yourself humming along to any of the remaining songs Its ok, but not one of the more likable Bowie collections
I love the first track, but struggle with the rest of the album I felt the same when it came out in the mid 80's, and its funny that my reaction to this collection has not changed!
A part of the eleven year run of epic Cure albums An atmospheric wall of sound, while the the most uplifting collection in the Cure archive, its still a fascinating creation that hold up in 2026
Strong opening with Dont Know Why, setting the scene for a bluesy, jazzy, late night, laid back vibe Never heard the whole album until now, but I like about half of what I'm hearing
Oh wow - going back to 1994 for this - I had forgotten how long they have been around! Basket is the highlight, but a few other tracks stand out, such as Paradise and When I Come Around I find Green Day can get a bit samey, so its 3/5 for me
Not my regular cup of Joe, but this is a really fun collection of sounds and styles I'll be playing this surprise recommendation again
Have I ever heard this before? - it sounds sort of familiar, and yet not at the same time Suzanne, Sisters of Mercy, Goodbye - wow! I'll take this over Bob Dylan and Paul Simon when I need some 60's folk guitar And not as gloomy as some of his later stuff
The one with A Forest, Play for Today and M! Some of the other songs are a little more down-tempo, so gotta be in the right mood to really embrace those Back in 1980 I played this quite a bit, and still have it in my rotation
Rasta punks! I was never a huge fan of the vocals, but they do have a few catchy songs
The music, the voice, the lyrics - I never really like Pulp Thirty years later, opinion has not changed
Early 70's middle-of-the-road vanilla rock I heard nothing exceptional here, just lots of bland Not for me
From the time before he became a nazi A third of the album is odd short spoken word segments I do like Jesus Walks, but the rest is not really my thing Maybe 'cause I ain't no nigga dawg
Sounds kinda samey Not for me Nope
The Car! Sharp Dressed Man! Gimme All You Lovin'! 1983 was the time when metal was taking off in a big way, and ZZTop were certainly riding that wave I loved how this album connected with people of all ages, in a way I hadn't seen that often before Good to hear this one again, but for me the magic didn't really continue to their other ablums
With this album, Def Leppard wrote the template for mid-eighties metal MTV certainly helped fuel their popularity, but this really is a great album, taking the whole genre to a new level A sold-platinum classic Very happy memories!
Some good stuff on this double album - not just the hit singles but a number of deeper cuts
This was so great at the time Clean sound, excellent production, Michael's silky voice, and a strong list of songs (even if I generally stop listening after Billie Jean) But it feels now like this album is all played out for me - heard it too many times, that I have to switch stations whenever MJ comes on the radio It had its moment, and what a huge moment it was Then the stuff with the kids and animals started And we noticed you also skipped Live Aid!
I dont know what it is, but I just cant get excited about the Killers It sounds fine, but it washes over me and is forgotten moments later I might be the half-shouted vocal delivery that makes me want it to be over, or the sameiness of the guitar sounds Wherever, its very one-dimensional, that turns into a difficult listen for 50 straight minutes
I think I like the idea of the Flaming Lips being out there shaking up expectations, a little more than I actually enjoy their albums Probably the sense of the unexpected that I appreciate, and sometimes one or two of their tunes will land in a way I like Keep at it guys!
Depressing and boring I just can't . . .
This feels like the start of a new era for REM I liked the earlier albums better This is the point where I realized they were a singles-only band for me
A Covid-era Taylor album, I think is one of her weaker ones Its stripped down arragement that can get a bit samey when working through the fifteen songs in this collection Champagne Problems is a real highlight for me, which takes it to two stars
The duet with Kylie is a classic, but in general I need something a little more uplifting in my life right now
A solid five star classic, and regular companion in my musical journey since it came out Its in my top 100 albums of all time
This is not for me Plenty of other reviewers have already listed the reasons why is some detail
A glorious noise Raw and in your face! Not really my thing, but good to know its out there in the world
A couple of classic hits in this album showcase Otis' vocal skills A pretty good collection, though I do find the band a little instrusive at times
Nu-Metal in the 1001 list! I did prefer Significant Other, but this one is okay
The raving 90's! Leftfield, Underworld, Orbital - that was an epic time to be alive About half the tracks here I still listen to on a regular basis, easily withstanding the test of time Gotta be reminded these guys were OG pioneers - Cut For Life for instance has been copied so many times since by other artists A Classic
Another Miles Davis album? Please stop with the 50's jazz stuff Not for me
While it does have the great track Time of the Season, the rest unfortunately sounds pretty dated at this point
So its a country album Not a genre that inspires me in any way If I was at a summer BBQ playing this music, I would be leaving early So for me, this is a pass
Certainly a refreashing change from the albums presented recently A couple of stand-out tracks that are such a beautiful contrast to my normal listening, that they'll have to be added to my collection But, as several reviewers have mentioned, at over 75 minutes, it gets a bit much, and ultimately just want it to be over
Not bad, but I didn't really enjoy this album It actually seemed a weaker effort than some of their others that I heard a while back
Nope I not hearing anything good here Left wondering wtf is this on the 1001 Best Album list The music is not good, and there are thousands of female singers that I would listen to before enduring this
What a strange album Madonna doing autotune - ugh The cover of American Pie - a musical war-crime A couple of the other songs are ok if listened to away from the rest of the ablum But as a 49 minute listening experience, I am very grateful for the skip button Such a shame, after 1998's wonderful Ray of Light album, which to me remains her career highlight
First couple of tracks are the winners - then things get a bit samey I was never a fan of the voice or the writing, so this band was always a pass for me
Nothing bad here, just not my thing, and thanks to CSI, there's a couple of tracks that I never need to here again this lifetime
As a whole album, this a tough one to work through as the style gets a little tiresome, but there are a few songs on here that it has been a real pleasure to hear again
OMG - that title has a different meaning these days! The whole big band thing is an era that does nothing for me, but I do recall watching the seniors grooving to this when I was a kid Of the couple of songs which stand out, the only time this would be okay is in a movie soundtrack
Oh dear No, No, No, No, No Next!
On a hot dusty afternoon, stopping for gas and a soda in an off-the-beaten-track latin american town, I imagine this is what's playing on the crackly AM radio in the corner of the store Probably important to a lot of people, but for me, this is a hard pass
If I was locked on a room and forced to listen to 60's soul music, I hope it would be this album! Beautiful voice, and the orchestra does not dominate A cool discovery in this 1001 album process!
Its a reasonable snapshot of early 70's pop/rock But this isnt anywhere close to the Stones, Fleetwood or Beatles! More like a poor version of Styx It's not terrible, just not for me
Its a great album Of course, some songs are stronger than others Some people will react badly to the Cure cover song And Adele's voice has had so much exposure as to make some of her vocal inflections into a cliche Its still a great achievement No perfect to my ears - I like a slightly rawer edge, but heck, still a solid 4
Paul needed John Freddie needed Queen Morrisey needs Johnny Its the creative tension that makes greatness Otherwise its not worth my time listening to
What a great trip down Memory Lane! Martin has a great voice, and of course the rivalry with Spandau Lexicon of Love was an astonishing debut, and unfortunately also their career highpoint before the bland takeover Maybe four fantastic songs herethat have stood the test of time, the rest are filler in comparison
So, it's a concept album from 2018 It's not bad, but I just didn't like it
With Bowie, it's usually the singles that stay with me, and most album tracks take a terribly long time to get into This album seems typical - a couple of tracks to hum along to right off the bat, but plenty for art student to noodle over possible hidden meanings Its okay
Its a country album, which is always a problem for me So I'm in no real position to comment on supposedly fine the qualities of this collection It all sounds like small animals being slowly tourtured to me When I was a kid I wanted to be an astronaut, never a cowboy
Finally its Zappa time! First time listening to The Mothers of Invention Music is okay Quite funny in parts But I dont really get it, probably 'cause I was not alive back then Ultimately, listening in 2026, it's not for me Wowie Zowie?
Heart of Gold, Old Man & Damage Done - that's a solid 3 stars right there I tend to tune out the rest, so cant quite get to four stars Still, a pretty good rating for a style of music and a singing voice that I dont really like!
Its okay Not really a fan
Yes, it was indeed a chore Like so many of the "must-listen" items on this list Almost 25% into this process, and there seem to be many more difficult days than moments of joy This was one of the dark days
Not heard this for years! Always enjoyed the Deep Purple sound Highway Star and Smoke on the Water are the winners on this collection
I'm not wanting to leave a negative review today So I will simply refer you to the existing 1 and 2 star reviews, who have already done a sterling job of pulling apart the shortcomings of this band
A karaoke album! I'm really not a fan of the 50's/60's orchestra-backed singers So a pass for me
Never really a fan of this when it came out Funny to see the level of hate in the reviews for a Scotsman doing a reggae-lite fusion
Another band where the singles are great but not really finding any hidden gems on the albums So if you took the singles away, this would be quite a bad record Strange to see there are versions of this album with different tracks
If you get a few whiskeys in my aunt & uncle on a hot summer's evening, the guitars will come out and they sound just like this Getting PTSD flashbacks listening to this, or maybe a little better Is this really considered one of the most amazing 1001 albums ever recorded in the history of music? A hard No!
Not heard of these folks before Not expecting much But surprisingly ok Its going to take a few more listens, but so far, so good
Yup More than half of these tracks are absolute bangers, that still sound fresh today What an achievement! 5 stars for sure
A regular on my car stereo in the late 90's I'm not really a fan of Madonna, but I loved this collection I really wish she had done more in this kind of style
Cool album! I never expected to say that about a rap record, but this is both funny and musically really well done Body Count is a great rap/rock song that's made it into my collection now, but I'll be listening to the whole collection again very soon
If I were to own this record, side 2 would never get played Then need to also skip most of side one To be honest, only the first track actually needs playing, as the rest seems like improvisions derived from that I dont actively hate this, but I would be happy to live out the rest of my life without needing to hear this again
I do not enjoy Coldplay I dont have time to analyze my reasoning - I just choose to avoid them Please stop suggesting them
This confuses me, and makes my head hurt Messed up my Saturday morning Nothing for me here
While I dont absolutely hate this album, listening once a decade is about all I can take
While the voice is clearly exceptional, many of the songs are either weak or just annoying I think there were better Nina Simone albums that could have made it to this list
Track 1 - Why?? Track 2 - dont like lyrics or vocals Tracks 3+4 - worse than #2 Track 5 - getting tiresome now The rest also a Nope! Clearly I'm not a RW fan I'm okay with that
Not heard this since the 70's And I didnt like it much back then Feels like a bit of a museum piece at this point Sure, put it up there with Henrdrix and the Beatles, and it's coming in last place for me Strange Brew and Sunshine make it a 2/5
Reading the reviews, I dont hate this as much as the haters, but just cant love it like some of the lovers I have no history with this guy - listening for the first time Its okay, but I wont be back any time soon
The first NY album I ever heard Hooked me straight away with the guitar sounds and lyrics - a dreamer of pictures, I run in the night This remains my go-to Neil Young collection Cinnamon / River / Cowgirl - regulars in my collection for over 40 years Sure, there are a couple of tracks to skip, but still a solid five stars
The XX - a band beaming in from a different dimension! The first album was a solid 5 stars, but this feels a little bit like a faded copy, similar but less ambitious Its now more like dinner party background music, which is just fine, but less satifying for a closer listen in headphones
The reviews here seems quite similar, that the title track is the standout song, and the rest has dated poorly I'll go one further and say the whole thing is a product of its time, and has no place in my 21st century listening library I'm also developing a serious aversion to BS lyrics - you really think I'm going to be mulling over possible hidden meanings of In A Gadda Da Vida? No! That was nothing more than drunken mumblings of someone about to pass out Rejected!
I get why this was a popular release I dont much care for the profusion of explicit language, and the style of rap is not my go-to It's fine, just not for me
Prog is still a thing? In the 21st Century?? Not in my world!
Okay . . . yeah, I can kick it!
Oh dear - this guy again How?? This really is not 1001 material Dont like the voice, lyrics, music, cover art, anything Go away, and dont come back
Glad to have heard this, even though big band jazz singers are not really my thing
That was a lot of fun! Never heard these guys before, but WOW! Generally I prefer a little more melody, and some lyrics, but I'm sure there are times when this is exactly what's needed Bold, but cool
OMG NO STOP THIS MUSIC TO COMMIT SUICIDE TO
I dont really like this one Reading the comments, clearly I'm in a minority here I dont find the twee English Village Green vibe at all appealing Or, for that matter, failed albums from the 60's PASS
If its gotta be country, then it needs to be Johnny Cash Musically, I do prefer his later work, but this is really more a piece of history than a musical performance Respect
Not really looking forward to 44 minutes of funky soul jazz fusion It was okay, and well timed for a summer afternoon Glad to have heard it
Just give me the Greatest Hits collection please! I've never found anything hidden on the albums that I would care to listen to on a regular basis
It's finally clear where the Clash got the inspiration for their London Calling album cover! A really interesting collection of moods and styles When my kids ask about Elvis, this will be a great place to start
I have a few TS tunes in my library, from his contributions to the Buddah Bar and Asian Underground collections But aside from Butterfly I dont hear much that hits in the same way on this album
I dont know these guys music, but they seem to be not quite fitting into the regular established genres, which is fine - gotta applaud them going their own way I'm hearing a lot of influences, RHCP probably being the dominant one for me Something is just slightly off - I'm not getting the emotional rawness that I generally expect from a guitar band - its just a little but too refined, as if its grunge-lite which has been focussed-grouped for mass appeal, and in the process had it's heart and soul surgically removed Confusing
There seems to be a lot of love for this album I was pretty sceptical, but now I've finally listened to it, I do get why Quite a surprise!
Late 90's I finally got a car with CD player Hole, Prodigy, Dreadzone, Loop Guru, Transglobal Underground, Madonna, and EBTG were on heavy rotation And I think they have all stood the test of time Awesome stuff!
Probably the ultimate background music for a lazy afternoon or evening vibe, with a bottle of wine and hanging out with loved ones
I'm not build for Jazz fusion or 12+minute songs, so it's not really for me If this was playing live at a music festival, I would probably hang out for a couple of songs before heading off to find the taco track But I do appreciate it's place in history in the fight against government oppression
It contains the classics Le Freak and I Want Your Love, which are exceptional examples of the disco scene, and still stand up today So an automitic three stars there I do wish there was a little more variety on the album, but I do hear a couple of tracks that might grow on me over time Yeah - I'm probably going to be playing this one again, and dancing around the kitchen with my kids, wallowing in happy memories of back in the day . . .
It's great to hear Girls and Time again A sound that helped define the 80's Never heard the album before, but not finind any further gem's in this collection Giving it 3 Stars for the longevity of those two amazing songs
I dimly recall a time when 60's psych was being "rediscovered" and the band name and this album were a regular part of the music conversation for a new generation seeking inspiration from musical history Listening to this for the first time now, it comes over as a dated curio from a marginal element of a lost decade Not for me
Jump was one of THE songs of 1984 Together with Panama and Hot for Teacher, Dave Lee Roth's antics were hard to escape this year While the opening has shades of "Mr Robotto", thats all forgotten a couple of tracks in, even though the synth remains a too-prominent element While I certainly prefer some of their earlier material, this is an easy 4 stars for keeping the metal flag flying in the crazy eighties
1001 Albums I need to listen to before I die But here's the problem We've all been in an elevator before and heard the Muzak playing there So why do you need to put more of that sh*t on a list that targets fans of actual music? Now I'm starting me day all pissed off because of this nonsense Do not this again!
Aside from Damaged Goods, not reaaly heard much by this band until now While thre are a couple of other tracks here that have promise, I dont think I could ever listen to this album all the way through again
They certainly have an amazing talent for writing songs that are a catchy as f*ck, and those guitars rock hard Many a sweaty nightclub evening in the 90's was spent jumping around to Pixies tunes But hearing the lyrics again now, why should I care about the Monkey? And wtf is Andalusia? Wave of Mutilation - really? I think I've moved on . . .
I cant seem to fully get there with the White Stripes I Fell in Love, Dead Leaves & Friends are great, but the rest seem a lot like first takes, rather than finished ideas
Not heard this all the way through for so long . . . As a father to two young girls, I'm going to get a vinyl copy of this for them - such an amazing role model in general and fantastic sinnger to emulate Blondie were certainly one of the pioneering sounds of the late 70's and 80's I am in agreement - thisis a must-listen album!
I see a lot of hate in the reviews for this one, and I get why that might be Not an easy listen, for sure I have absolutely loved 2Kindsa Love, since it came out in 1996, but most of the other songs hit a little different from that I do like the guitar noise, but the band sounds a little too disorganized for me I'm going with three stars, because the world is a better place with someone out there doing this kind of thing, but a whole 28 song album, all at once, is just too overwhelming
First time hearing this Not sure about the upbeat tone or the jazzy accompanying instruments While it always seems a little sad that Nick didnt get much recognition during his lifetime, I'm not sure I would have been huge fan if his musical output had continued any longer There's something about the voice that I dont much care for Its okay, but I wont be circling back on this one
In 1992 I was very disinterested in this Pavement record In 2026 I am only somewhat disinterested in this Pavement record Difference being, there are now some songs I can sit through, even nodding my head & tapping my foot a little Maybe three, out of the fourteen songs in this collection But I wont be rushing back to listen to this again any time soon
70's experimental Kraut-rock! While my worst fears were not realized, and it's even kind of okay in places, I wont be back for another listen Bye!
Not a band I'm that familiar with, but a little suprised this was the album that made the list I need to give this a few more listens, but sounds good so far - I rarely say that about the daily suggestions!
