Smug and snarky. Weird Al without the fun. If this wasn’t Frank Zappa nobody would care.

Maggie May alone puts this above average - didn’t remember the chamber music intro to it though.
Pre-weirdness Pumpkins. Bought this on CD when it first came out. Still sounds amazing.
First album I ever owned. Hits are good - others are meh.
Not for me. Never liked PJ Harvey’s vocal stylings.
Songs desperately in need of a running time limit/editorial control.
Weak songwriting (repetitive lyrics) and overall just ok.
Automatic 5-star no skips. Classic.
WTF
Interestingly better from PJ Harvey. More relaxed vocals without the grating edge of earlier work.
Shite
I know I’m supposed to like this, but I hated it. Graphic for the sake of being graphic. Little to no subtlety or meaning. Ponderous musically. The duet with Kylie Minogue was a high point.
Inoffensive background sounds.
Better than I expected
Classic - love the stage banter/background noise
Not for me. Never loved the REN Faire aspects of psychedelia.
Amazing how studio stuff and live tracks have such little variation. Very tight live band.
Back to Life saves this from one-star ignominy.
This is not for me. Pointless meandering garbage.
Earworms and nostalgia save this pile of crap from a one star rating.
Nope. Nightmare music.
Bland hair metal. I remember why grunge killed this stone dead.
Sonically interesting, but dumpster fire lyrically. The soundtrack of a talented individual completely losing the plot and giving in to all their worst impulses.
Smug and snarky. Weird Al without the fun. If this wasn’t Frank Zappa nobody would care.
Good post-punk and not mad it’s on the list, but I would rather throw on Gang of Four’s Entertainment! or Pink Flag by Wire.
Interesting - not as twee/precious as some US contemporaries. First half better than the rest.
You can hear that it was influential. Sits at the crossroads of lots of 60s musical trends.
Background music
Beautiful voice. Don’t love the vibrato/yodeling vocal affectation,
Only a one-star because zero point zero isn’t an option. Unlistenable slop. No redeeming characteristics.
Not bad, just not memorable.
Not bad, except for the “Heard It Through the Grapevine” cover, which was truly awful. Not exactly what I was expecting overall.
Lots of hits. More range than average hair metal.
Really poor sound/production on this record. Also a largely forgettable mishmash of late 60s styles. Not essential at all.
KISS isn’t for me. Feels fake and soulless.
It’s ok, but not my favorite.
Liked this more than I thought I would. It has a wild ferocity in the playing.
No thanks. Insufferable noodling.
Oof. This didn’t age well.
Can’t get into the ambient stuff. Sounds like background music.
Don’t hate the music, but the vocal delivery is painful.
Can’t even separate the music from those vocals. Different strokes for different folks, but a strong nope from me.
How is a 50s crooner throwback essential? Not bad, just derivative and sleepy.
Way better than Murder Ballads
Moments of brilliance, but almost everything sounds like an unfinished sketch or a working idea of a song.
Another British electronica album in severe need of a grown up to police song length. First track is great, the rest is repetitive and grating.
Meh. Not terrible, just feels insubstantial/not memorable.
Derivative but the sound holds up surprisingly well.
Interminably long and meandering songs. Hard to sit through. Don’t actually hate the sound, just a chore after a while.
