Yeah...so...I know Eminem has some great music but this wasn't it. The beats were good, and he obviously has amazing rhyming capabilities, but the lyrics are just so so SO cringy. The violence and the misogyny reveal an immaturity that is off-putting. My feelings for this album is the embodiment of Schmidt saying: "Youths!"
Just a lot of noise for most songs... especially the first which never led to anything. Even the tracks that are "songs" stretch on for too long. Nothing exciting or very enjoyable.
While I would not go back and listen again, I definitely felt cool while listening 😆
I wish the rest of the songs on this album lived up to Fame, which is an unbelievably amazing song. I felt like Bowie was trying a style that didn't really fit as well with his voice...I liked it but didn't love it.
I liked their sound but the songs were too long and repetitive within each song. I didn't dislike the music, but wasn't especially impressed by anything
A fun listen...he's got a great voice. Definitely feel-good music!
While I can appreciate their influence and legacy on music, this was decidedly NOT for me. Too much swearing and often the sound mixing seemed off, where the vocals and background beat didn't blend into each other
I liked the music but the lyrics were a bit much and the singer started to become obnoxious
I actually really enjoyed this music style, despite the singing seeming "off" in certain songs. His voice works so well with most of the songs and I feel like if the sound mixing had been better in others (with the vocals meshing better with the music instead of sounding like mediocre karaoke), I would have given it an extra star.
A fun listen with generally toe-tapping rhythm (albeit angry lyrics) but a bit repetitive musically/ vocally
Love Nina Simone! She has such a rich, unique, haunting voice!
A fun listen! I enjoyed their quirky twist on rock and the tongue-in-cheek nature of many of the songs. I also liked their take on the Sonny and Cher and California Sun covers
My family used to listen to this CD in the car all the times and Take Five is one of my dad's favorite songs, so this album has heavy nostalgic power for me! The music is so masterful and wonderful <<chef's kiss>>
I initially was going to give this 3 stars since it's fine as background music even if it wasn't my favorite, but it just became so repetitive musically and vocally that halfway through I began to actively dislike it and wanted to quit listening.
Just a lot of noise for most songs... especially the first which never led to anything. Even the tracks that are "songs" stretch on for too long. Nothing exciting or very enjoyable.
Strange but strangely delightful. It really brought to mind the inner musical monologue of a modern-day Casanova
Meh...fine as background music but nothing particularly notable or exciting
Despite not even containing many of my favorite Queen songs (except Bohemian Rhapsody, obvs) this album still delivers. With Freddie's amazing voice, each song is interesting and enjoyable!
Good voice, good sound though not much variety musically. Nice solid listen though!
Very soothing with oldies feel that I'm super digging
I didn't hate it but also didn't enjoy it at all. This genre just really isn't my thing for casual listening
While I would not go back and listen again, I definitely felt cool while listening 😆
Enjoyable but as I often feel with RHCP, becomes tedious. Some songs were hits for me and others misses.
Nice background music, though very one note throughout
While a bit bland, I didn't not like this album and almost gave it 3 stars. 90s rock isn't really my genre so I didn't mind the music or find it bad, but the album is unnecessarily long so it dropped down to 2 stars
Great listen! I didn't love all the songs (sometimes I felt their voices didn't match the level of rock that they needed for certain songs) but the ones that were more funky/bluesy were amazing!
Classic! Iconic! Wonderful! This was my favorite Beatles CD when I was a kid and it holds up with their 60s rock style that they mastered!
Love his voice, which makes me wish there was more of it on this album as there were a lot of instrumental songs. No song particularly stood out as one that I'll go back to again but I enjoyed listening the whole time!
I can definitely acknowledge their cultural impact and the musical influence that they have, however, it doesn't make it any less of a chore to listen to these songs that are so full of profanity. This genre is not what I look for in my music.
Fine, fun background music. Though to listen to a straight hour of electronic dance music does eventually wear on the nerves...would have probably like it better in smaller doses
This album is a strange amalgamation of so many different music styles but it keep it interesting song to song!
This style of music is just really not for me. All it sounds like to me is whiny rock and I just don't find it enjoyable to listen to
Nothing particularly exciting but enjoyable
I really enjoyed the vibe of this music and the tone of his voice. Buzzin' Fly was a stand out for me and one that I'll have to add to my own mix of music!
What a vast improvement over the other album of theirs I listened to! I really enjoyed this album...they definitely found their sound and were able to much better compliment the vocals with the music. I'll be going back to re-listen to a couple of the songs for sure!
Nothing impressed me with this album. I felt like the singing was often overwhelmed by the music and all you could hear was the title phrase being repeated over and over
He has a great storytelling style and some beautiful songs. I think I prefer Don McLean in smaller doses, as all the songs feel too similar when listened to one after another
While I enjoyed the upbeat fun sound, the songs were way too similar. I don't like when I can't understand a word they sing and honestly thought they were speaking a foreign language. I was surprised that it was an American duo!
Beautiful voice! I thoroughly enjoyed this whole album!
This was a very enjoyable listen! I especially loved the transitions/smooth flow from one song to another. You could tell a lot of care was put into the order and flow of this album
Liked it but didn't love it. This is another style that I prefer in tiny doses and don't enjoy one after another as it becomes tedious and a tad annoying
Soothing and good as background music but not something I'd come back to listen to again
Love Frank's voice and this album is very soothing though it could use a bit more variety
Bit too messy and muddled for my liking and even when it wasn't muddy, it was boring
I feel like this album suffers from not aging well and the songs feel like parodies of this style of music. I was underwhelmed.
I like his voice and style and the straight forward simplicity of the songs. Some parts were a bit trippy but I dug it!
I like the music but am having a strong aversion to Bruce Springsteen's voice. He sounds like an old man who used to be a good singer but no longer has the range he used to...and this is during his prime! I've never really listened to "the boss" outside of the ones you hear on the radio over and over and I was shocked how unimpressed I was by his singing
This whole album is a bop, as the youths say (said?🤷♀️). Great rock that I enjoyed beginning to end!!
Great 60s rock with lots of variety. Very enjoyable!
London Calling is an amazing song! A lot of the rest of the album kind of all melded together for me and was too long in my opinion, but an enjoyable listen with a great punk rock sound
I LOVE this style of music and this is a great find that I'll have to go back to again and again! The singer has a wonderful tone of voice and the music has a great groove!
Not something I'll go back to, but good music with a great beat
A classic for a reason! Jim Morrison's voice is so haunting and sultry and the music is just so good
I wish the rest of the songs on this album lived up to Fame, which is an unbelievably amazing song. I felt like Bowie was trying a style that didn't really fit as well with his voice...I liked it but didn't love it.
I love Ray Charles and his sound. This album was a great listen but I felt it was a bit disjointed - going from popular music of the time and then to "cowboy" music and back again. I feel like it would have flowed better as two separate albums but I enjoyed listening nonetheless!
Too 2000s-y, too boring, too similar, too much not for me
This is not a genre of music I care to listen to outside of a good old fashioned dance party, so the fact that I enjoyed listening to this album is a testament to Fatboy Slim. It has a wonderful vibe of fun throughout the album
Loved the smooth transition from song to song and the fun mix of short songs and longer ones!
Guitar was goid and while I didn't dislike it, I didn't exactly enjoy it either. I appreciated that it was short and to the point though!
I really enjoyed this album and their unique sound mixed with classic rock! I ended up knowing more songs than I realized too
This was a snooze fest for me. Fine as background "muzak" but so repetitive and lackluster and WAY too long
I feel like I was supposed to be more impressed by this album given it's lofty status. The title track was great but I wanted more from the rest of the album
Pleasing as background music. Not something I'll come back to but definitely enjoyable
While interesting that this was the first album to be marked as ambient music, there really wasn't anything special about it for me. Soothing and peaceful but unimpressive
Definitely an important listen-- powerful, moving, and timely! I especially liked the spoken word parts. Due to the protest nature of the album, it's not one I'll go back to for casual listening but I found it well done and emotion inducing!
The Eagles are a band that while they don't appeal to my personal preference for music I like to come back to over and over, I can acknowledge and appreciate their talent in their songs. This was a pretty solid album, until the last song. I'm all for a protest song but found The Last Resort so bland and blatant that i feel it drags down the rest of the album.
A solid listen if you're looking for that classic 90/00's girls alt rock band sound. Not something I seek out generally, but done well
Solid album with several great hits that I enjoyed all the way through. Though Coldplay can often sound similar song to song, their lyric game is so strong that I can overlook that
Simple Man is one of my favorite songs and Free Bird is a classic for good reason. I especially enjoyed the more folk-y sounding songs...great American rock listen
Not super impressed by the vocals...a bit too "talk singing"...but, despite some songs being way stranger than others, I can't deny that I really enjoy the style and the vibe of his music
Singer has a great vocal tone but songs were nothing special. Pleasant enough but not something to come back to again
I know Bob Dylan isn't for everyone but I'm a huge fan and his lyricism is undeniable. His songs never fail to make me feel. He is an American folk icon for a reason and this wasn't even my favorite of his albums. Outstanding songwriting and moving music
I generally do not enjoy live concerts as much as studio albums, and while this was no exception, I didn't mind it so much. I enjoyed the riffs and "jamming" but it also made a lot of the songs fade into the background as generic "rock music".
I liked their sound but the songs were too long and repetitive within each song. I didn't dislike the music, but wasn't especially impressed by anything
Rod Stewart's voice is perfect for this type of music. It was a good listen!
You can tell that they were trying to do something different, but it just didn't impress me
I like the energy but that's about all I liked. It also being too long was the final nail in the coffin
Lyrics are a bit clunky at times, not something I'd come back to listen to again but done well enough
This was decidedly not for me. Entirely too long and nothing really impressed me
Good variety of songs. Her vocal tone reminds me a lot of Carly Simon
Too chaotic for my musical taste. Somehow was both too much and too little at the same time
Pleasing music but when listened to all in a row, becomes a bit repetitive and one note
Made me want to dance! Solid album but "She's Out of My Life" did not belong on here
Often faded into the background but pleasing nevertheless
Love me some Elvis and his buttery voice! Not my favorite set of Elvis songs (I prefer his earlier stuff) but I'd listen to The King sing the phonebook and be happy. Suspicious Minds is such an A+ song
I was very pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed this album! If I'm going to listen to country, this "cowboy" folky style is definitely what I prefer and I was almost sad when it was over so quickly. Not something I would seek out for daily listening but I definitely enjoyed it and would listen to Merle Haggard again when I'm in the mood for this type of music
It was okay. I'm not a fan of the whiny/angsty rock lead singer voice...it becomes too much when listened to as a whole
They do what they do well! Many of their songs are classics for good reason but it's not my favorite kind of rock, so when listened to as a whole, it becomes a bit one-faceted.
Unique and strange, but interesting strange! I personally believe it could have benefited from being a shorter album, as in my opinion, less is more for "different" music
I'll admit that my rating is skewed on this one as I grew up listening to Paul Simon and consider him in my top 5 artists. Some of these songs were kinda misses for me, but even on the ones that weren't my favorites, I love his voice, his music and his storytelling in his songs. While there are much better Paul Simon albums, I enjoyed every minute of listening to this, especially the title track
Nothing stood out for me in this album. The songs blended into each other one after another into the background with nothing that captured my interest
Good variety and there's a certain "je ne c'est quoi" with the music that's so pleasing for me -- like round tones or clean sound or something I can't put my finger on!
A great live album! Fantastic drumming, guitars, vocals and you could tell the band was enjoying themselves in their set!
There is just nothing in this music that appeals to me. It is a mix of both boring and annoying in turns
I had a lot of fun listening to this one! Good variety and definitely quirky, but I was digging it!
Some really good classic hip-hop. Lots of variety and I was going to say the feel was more "fun", which I enjoyed, up until the last song which definitely had some more disturbing lyrics
This album ultimately just didn't impress me. The vocals weren't very strong, the lyrics were kinda boring and the music faded into the background as "muzak" or cocktail lounge-y
This album was definitely all over the place stylistically but I was there for it! It's an interesting mix of Americana, ballads and what I'm calling "zany rock n roll"
She's got a good voice and was doing some interesting and unique stuff. Unfortunately, it may have just been the mood I was in, but it just didn't capture my attention/interest at all and I was just waiting for the album to be over.
Pleasant enough to listen to but easily forgettable
One of my favorite genres of music done so very well! Time of the Season is such a great song!
If you asked me before, I would have told you I didn't care for Eric Clapton so I was very pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed this album! I prefer this folksy/bluesy type of sound from him -- I especially loved the song Please Be With Me.
Not something I'll come back to but it was interesting and unexpectedly a good listen!
Metal legit never fails to put me in a good mood. I have a major character flaw in that I CANNOT take metal seriously and just imagine the band yelling and making strange noises, and hence, I smile and giggle my way through each song. I highly enjoyed this album, though I recognize not in the way it was probably intended 😃
While it doesn't fall within my personal taste for music consumption, it was still a good listen and you can hear and appreciate the influence that Radiohead had over 90s and 2000s music. I especially enjoyed High and Dry, but the rest kind of blends together as too "mopey" for me but good music regardless
I always wish I liked the Foo Fighters more based on the seemingly fun personalities of Dave Grohl and the other band members, but they are just not for me. I am consistently underwhelmed, especially with the vocals
Funky and groovy classics! I was really digging the long version of Papa Was A Rolling Stone
You can tell it makes a great soundtrack, but a tad dull for just listening to. Good music though!
Some good classic hip-hop! A cool album concept, though became a little repetitive sounding as the songs went on
Nothing like starting an album off with a 20 minute long song. This was not for me...seemed like a glorified jam session for most songs
A good listen! An interesting jazz-y sound
Good music but definitely not their strongest works.
WAY too twangy and slow for my taste. The Weatherman was a nice reprieve but then it went right back to essentially the same song over and over. I'm shocked this album was under 30 minutes because it felt SO SO much longer
A "cleaner" sounding metal band, leaning more towards rock to me than metal. A good listen!
The vocals in several of the songs were just atrocious (especially Love is a Sign). Even the songs that weren't grating to the ears were mediocre at best.
Such an 80s sound, almost a caricature of 80s music with the slow singing and the synth
This whole album SLAPS! Amazing bluesy-rock with great variety
Definitely some different and interesting things going on stylistically, but it just wasn't for me
Love me some Santana! Amazing guitar and great mix of rock, Latin flair and jazziness...just so entertaining and fun musically! Listened to this during my childhood and it more than holds up!!
This feels like punk rock with a really solid foundation of classic 60s/70s rock and roll. I really enjoyed this album!
Great sultry voice! "Cry to Me" gets bonus points for being on the Dirty Dancing soundtrack 😁 A bit of a one-faceted album but a wonderful listen
It was just "meh" for me...nothing really excited me or stood out. Also there were several times per song that I was actively unimpressed or put off by the vocals
Cool as background music or would work really well on the soundtrack of a 90s/00s action movie, but to just listen to as a whole album it just becomes noise at a certain point. A bit too long for how repetitive the songs are
Fun and funky! The lead singer has such a distinctive voice with a great clear tone
I just don't enjoy this style of singing -- it's just too downer, too much "whine" in his voice, and I don't like when I can't understand most of the words. Ok musically but I don't find this pleasurable to listen to
This was a musical rollercoaster...but I think I liked it!! A bit weird and out-there, a bit 60s ballads, a bit 70s rock. It was chaotic, but definitely organized chaos and the album actually has really good flow.
While Green Day doesn't fall into my personal preference for casual listening, this album was a banger! The first half I was really feeling...great rock, unique/distinctive vocals, good variety...but the second half kinda feel a bit flat for me with the songs being a tad too long and repetitive. Great album though!
Nothing of note, didn't hold my attention
I didn't care for the Ramones. While the first song's simple beat and monotone singing worked for it, the rest of the songs were literally that same thing over and over. Also having 14 songs that clocked under 30 minutes is unnecessary and maybe they should have focused on less songs with more substance/variety
Karen Carpenter's voice is so clear and gorgeous. This album had great variety and it's fun to hear a lot of songs that I know from oldies radio or movies/show soundtracks. Just an all around pleasant listen!
This album frustrates me because I quite enjoy the song writing, the wit, the vibe, and the variety of this album but it's length seems self-indulgent and gimmicky. I only made it through 31 songs and I'm just not inclined to continue to listen...the enjoyment just doesn't outweigh my willingness to give it more of my time
Ugh. Setting aside the bland first couple of songs that I was merely not enjoying, suddenly there were several songs in a row that were assaulting my ear. This album seemed to vacillate between the bleh and the horrible
Beach Boys are always a pleasant listen, even if nothing is particularly whizbang. "God Only Knows" is a great song, while the rest just remain middle of the road to me
It's fine but nothing exciting. Forgettable and nothing I'll ever have reason to go back to
A good listen and something outside my normal music preference
I was excited for this album based on the one Thundercat song I knew, but I'm very underwhelmed by the music. Seems too muted and the vocals aren't very strong or well integrated with the music
Not something I'd seek out to listen to again, but they do their genre well
Very interesting listen with lots of variety!
Not bad...I mean, not good either but not bad
The guitar in the first song was enough to bump this album up an extra star, even with the stranger psychedelic aspects of the last song. It was a great mix of funk and rock
I really just didn't care for this album -- I didn't like the lead vocalist and the songs were just bland. They also couldn't seem to pick a lane musically...do they want to be a metal band, or a Red Hot Chili Peppers knockoff, or a whiny rock band?
Some good guitar and drums! They are obviously a classic in this genre for a reason, but it seems just a bit too similar song to song and didn't wow me as much as I expected it to
Pleasant music for background listening. My love for Fisherman's Blues (from the Waking Ned Devine soundtrack) and the interesting cover of Van Morrison's "Sweet Thing" combined with that pleasantness is enough for me to bump it up to three stars, although the collector's edition of this album makes it a bit too long.
Great harmonies and great vibe! Easy and enjoyable listening
I didn't really care for this album. The style of the music and the style of the vocals were a strange mix
This album bored me. The vocals/lyrics seem clunky to me
I'm not sure if I'll come back to it, but I super enjoyed it while listening! The album had great flow and good variety
I'm a bit torn on this one. There were definitely parts of this album that were good, but I think more that were just okay. While I normally enjoy variety in an album, in this case I feel like it was too many things put together that created an album that was too long and not as strong as it could have been if he'd concentrated on one thing. While I didn't dislike any of it, I really couldn't find anything that made it special or worthy of appearing on a list of albums I needed to listen to
Love Willie's voice and the album was so pleasing as just one song effortlessly transitioned into another! Good length too
I feel about the same about this album as the other Black Sabbath album...music was good but the vocals weren't for me. I do think it was more interesting as they were obviously trying some different stuff, but still just not super impressive to me
The Beatles will always be a bop for me and full of nostalgia, as I grew up listening to them due to my dad's love of the Beatles. I was only familiar with about half of these -- it was an enjoyable, succinct album!
After reading about this album, I think there might be something being "lost in translation"...it seems like this was new concept of using mostly sampling in music. While that is definitely a cool idea, when it just boils down to the listening of this album, for me it leaves a lot to be desired and just was boring
I love T. Rex and their distinctive vocals and fun beats. Cosmic Dancer and Get It On have been long time favorites of mine. Some of their songs definitely are very similar sounding, but as I enjoy them, I'm going to ignore that!
Fun to listen to some old-school hip hop. Songs were pretty similar but good
I began listening to this album for the first time just enjoying it as some good rock but a couple of songs in, I was reading about it and realized it was a concept album. It became an entirely new experience then to read along with the plot of the album and hear the songs that correspond with the story it was telling! Not only is it great music, but the idea behind it makes it so much more powerful and impressive!
Great voice, great music! It always impresses me how many different kinds of music David Bowie does so well!
Solid solid music from beginning to end! I especially liked Going to California
It was a fine enough listen but it seemed like something was missing to hook me into it. Several times Iggy's voice seemed very weak and was overwhelmed by the music.
This music is fine but I'm failing to see why I need to listen to this mediocre cocktail lounge music before I die (let alone TWO albums now) or what great musical impact this artist had
Dire Straits has such a cool, funky style! Great guitars, great vocals
They have a distinctive sound that is fun to listen to but not something I would seek out for regular listening
While I enjoyed listening, this album was SUPER all over the place with so many shifts in musical style and genre. While it lent to making it interesting since you never knew what kind of song was coming next, it didn't impress me cohesively.
Seems like pretty standard 80's synth-pop and it went in one ear and right out the other...nothing really stood out or stuck with me
I really enjoyed this album and The Youngbloods' style of music and vocals. I'll definitely be adding them into my rotation of background music!
Not a genre that's for me, but there were good beats and I appreciated some of the clever choices they made (like the irony of lighthearted singsong voices while singing about violence and weapons)
Not my favorite Bowie album, but his music is always interesting and a good listen!
I'm realizing I really don't care for Randy Newman's voice outside of Pixar movies and TV show theme songs. Needless to say, it was also very jarring to hear him use the n-word, social satire or not 😬
The music is fine but the vocals are AWFUL and the mixing seemed to be done by an amateur. Half the songs sounded "muddy", the music overwhelmed the vocals (which may have been a blessing) and the other half the vocals and the music didn't blend together and sounded like a bad demo tape. Also the female voice that did "harmony" on some of the tracks was just horrendous.
An interesting listen with half being acoustic and half electric. Young doesn't have the strongest voice but is a great songwriter/story teller.
One of the best albums of all time! The music! The vocals! The drum beats! The guitars! The harmonies! I could both go on and on and also not find the words to express how good this music is ❤️
The beginning of "Bob Dylan's 115th Dream" was just adorable 🥰 I hadn't heard most of these songs (except for Tambourine Man) but DANG this is a solid, solid album. The music and songwriting are exquisite and I enjoyed every song
I feel like experimental music is wasted on me...I just don't get it and can't appreciate it. This album very much faded into background music, albeit interesting background music. I feel like if I gave it proper attention (with a certain substance assistance), I would give it more stars.
A solid, concise album! I love CCR's bluesy-rock combo and John Fogerty's growly voice. Every song was enjoyable!
Pretty standard 60s psych-rock sound. A couple of times the vocals didn't quite hit right. Mostly faded into the background but nice enough!
A genre that's just not for me but 2Pac has a cool voice
I was really vibing with this music! The album had a great flow and was super enjoyable to listen to. She has a great soulful, funky voice and I felt extra cool listening to it
Nothing stuck with me from this album other than: that was weird.
Great voices and music, if a bit one-dimensional
While I don't really care for the heavy vibrato style singing, I can definitely appreciate the heart and feeling that pours from this album. It definitely feels like poetry put to music.
Cohen has a very interesting voice but I felt the lyrics/music on this album didn't match, which were often ridiculous.
Just a super enjoyable listen and a showcase for the musicians' skill and musicality. I love the swing/big band/jazz sound and how it is both simple and complex.
A good listen but so similar from song to song that it just coalesced into pleasant background music without anything particularly standing out
Some cool guitar and while I wished the vocals were stronger, it definitely grew on me and I think the 2nd half of the album was stronger than the 1st half
Great harmonies and Mama Cass has such a powerhouse voice! What a fantastic debut album. The slower songs aren't as much of my jam but all the songs are enjoyable
One Way or Another and Heart of Glass are such great songs and showcases of this genre and Debbie Harry's voice, but the rest of the album kind of underwhelmed me.
Based on the name of the band, I was not expecting this album to be as soothing and pleasant as it was! 😄
Prince is definitely the sound of the 80s but unfortunately he's just never been for me. I don't know if it's the genre itself, or his songs being too busy for the singing, or something about the lack of "sing-along-ness" his music has always held for me but I just don't enjoy his music
I just don't get Prince. Typical (boring) 80s sound with insubstantial vocals
Not necessarily my favorite genre of music to listen to as a whole album, but Tina Turner has such a powerhouse voice that she makes each song impressive to hear. What's Love Got To Do With It is a great song and I enjoyed the Al Green and Beatles cover songs too
Some great songs on here - Brothers in Arms and Walk of Life - but it's a bit slower of an album than I'd like
I was really trying to give this one a chance as I suppose they were doing their genre well but it went from me noticing weak vocals to me actively hating the whiney powerless singing. I just wanted it to be over and had to trudge through the last half
What a great showcase of musicality and the organ was different and fun! Highly enjoyed this listen
While the individual songs don't particularly stand out, the vocals of Chrissie Hynde are so distinctive and cool that it lends a great vibe to the album
Good music, great voice! I think I would have personally preferred a non-live version more but you could feel his and the crowd's energy so that was cool
Not a bad listen, but the vocals weren't strong and the music wasn't as crisp as I'd like...a bit too muddy all around - it often sounded like the music and the singing weren't quite in sync
Solid music and some great guitar but scream rock isn't my bag so the vocals (while iconic) kept me from giving this a four
Maybe I just wasn't in the right mood for the Beach Boys but this album fell flat for me. All the songs were similar and nothing (except Help Me, Rhonda) caught my interest. I think I prefer hearing their hits on the radio but don't enjoy listening to a whole album in a row
This is one of those albums that I feel like if I actually listened to the lyrics and concept I would be more impressed. Unfortunately the Bjork-like singing was distracting and made discerning the lyrics for a casual listen near impossible.
I really enjoyed this listen! Harry Nilsson has a great, clear tone of voice. Good variety and an overall whimsical vibe
Great storytelling and an interesting psych-folk feel
Very soothing and masterfully played! It was very cool to listen to some non-Western music and I loved how he explained some the basics of sitar music as well
I guess I just didn't "get" this album. Too much noise and too long
A bit one-dimensional but great harmonies and always a good listen
I was very impressed with the first half of this album - the vibe, the flow - and was prepared to give it 4 stars but unfortunately the 2nd half fell flat and brought it down to 3 stars. "Electric Feel" was definitely a standout for me!
Love this! I've long been a fan of Louis Prima and just adore the whimsicality of his music, the amazing playing and singing, and the overall vibe of this album! Oh, Marie is one of my favorite songs!
Some super solid guitar and drums and fun rock! Singing style wasn't my favorite but the music more than makes up for it. America is one of my favorite Simon & Garfunkel songs and I really enjoy their cover!
This is another one of those albums where I feel if I "got it"" I would have liked it better. But as it is it wasn't for me...the music was fine, if all over the place, but I just don't get why I needed to listen to this
I really didn't care for the vocalist -- his voice just hit my ears wrong and his style made every song sound the same even when the music was clearly different
Led Zeppelin is just such a solid band! While it might not be their best album, I vibed with every song and there was great variety!
I could have rated this album without listening to it as I have it memorized since my sister and I used to listen to it over and over in high school (but I did for pure enjoyment). Norah Jones has the perfect voice for this genre of music and her lyrics are poetic
I was not impressed with any part of this album. The vocals were weak, the lyrics basic, and the mixing of the voice/music in many of the songs made it sound amateurish
A cool mix of bluesy and hard rock! Some great guitar work and good vocals
I was wavering between 2 and 3 stars but ultimately went to 2 because, while I liked the music well enough, Tom Waits' gravelly voice was so forced and affected and inconsistent in half the songs that it tilted into the ridiculous
Like RHCP, REM has a distinctive sound that makes any song of theirs easily identifiable as belonging to their band. They do what they do well!
To me, this album suffers from being too gimmicky. Plus being over an hour long seems self-indulgent especially since it contains so many covers. It's definitely fun but the over-the-top elements overshadowed everything else.
I LOVE the Gershwins and I LOVE Ella and her amazing voice...but dang! Three plus hours is a long album ask even for music I enjoy, especially with the same singer and same song type
Nice for a subdued listen. The first half of the album was stronger than the second half
Homeward Bound is a five-star song but the most of the rest of this album doesn't showcase the amazing work of S&G. I still enjoyed it but as I know they have better music, it felt average
I'm not one for country music but I didn't mind this album. The upbeat songs were fun and while I didn't enjoy the "sad" songs, at least the twang and cheesiness weren't too overwhelming
Another Brian Eno album 🙄 I definitely enjoyed this album more than I have his others -- it had good flow and definitely was more interesting to me than the others I've listened to. The music still tends to fade into the background though.
It probably makes me uncool but I just don't care for Nirvana. Grunge is just not my jam and all the songs just sound the same. Kurt Cobain is said to be a great songwriter but I can barely make out the lyrics. I know they had a big musical impact so I always try to listen to them with an open mind (and hence the 3 stars instead of 2) but I just never enjoy listening
I was vibing with every song! A highly enjoyable listen that I'll definitely come back to
Johnny Cash has such a great voice and though his music is relatively simple, he is masterful. I love the interactions in this live album and how charming he is and what a "rock and roll" concept playing at a prison for a live album is
On paper this should be a band that I would enjoy, but there's something about it that I just don't like. The music is good but there's something about the vocals that just aren't hitting my ears right...it feels like their voices clash when harmonizing and there's a goofy aspect (Randy Newman-esque) to a couple of the singers that just makes me cringe
This is not a genre of music I tend to enjoy listening to and that didn't change for this album. I found the lyrics clunky and the songs too long for how repetitive they were. I also dislike when singers start speaking during songs and there was SO much of that in her music. Not for me.
Moonlight Mile is SUCH an amazing song... definitely bumped the whole album up an extra star. The rest of the album definitely wasn't my favorite of what The Rolling Stones has in their arsenal but still always solid music
This genre isn't for me but I didn't hate it, so they must have done it well! I could have done with a shorter album though
Definitely interesting as a concept album and very cool that it was the first "rock opera" but I didn't feel like the music grabbed me as much as I would want it to.
The music definitely has a melancholy beauty to it and great flow. Personally I found it a bit too long and similar song to song but can definitely see the appeal if this genre was my thing
Nothing I'd go back to but a solid enough listen for this genre
A fun listen but the words/music often sounded muddy, the vocals were not strong, and the songs were a bit long
Such a great showcase of musical talent...amazing piano, amazing drums, amazing horns! The album had great flow and I loved the different elements of jazz, afro music, and big band sound it combined!
From my understanding, this album was definitely a labor of love and trauma for Brian Wilson, but unfortunately it missed it's mark for me. It read as very creepy and nightmarish to me with it's harmonies and child-like themes...would have worked as the soundtrack for a horror movie in my mind 😳
A cool blend of 90s indie rock and Beatles-esque Brit-rock sound
Smooth and a very pleasing listen
Sympathy for the Devil is such a banger of a song to start off with (and in my personal top 5 songs of all time). Unfortunately the rest of the album didn't really live up to that beginning but they are always a solid listen
This type of music just always makes me happy. Fats has such a clear tone of voice and he makes it sound effortless
A fine enough listen for background music but I'm not sure what I gained musically by its inclusion on this list. The lyrics were indistinguishable and the sound was very similar song to song. A very "I can take it or leave it" album
Nothing whiz bang but a solid enough listen
I am shocked by how much I was impressed by and enjoyed this album, as hip-hop is really not a genre I tend to like listening to. This is one of those albums that makes you understand why they are called musical artists - it was definitely a work of art. The flow, the variety in the musical and lyrical styles, the cadence changes and poetry. It's not something I'll likely go back to, but I'm glad I listened to it
Simple and fantastic! Great songwriting and he has a beautiful, effortless voice
Completely in one ear and out the other, fade into the background music. While not unenjoyable, definitely don't see why it was included in this list above another of the same genre
Good songwriting, interesting beats, and cool use of samples
Not bad, but honestly not very impressive either. While I'm glad it's a short 20 minute album as I don't think I could listen to more than that, it unfortunately has no standouts and kind of amalgamates into one big ball of fast noise and yelling instead of singing
Quick and punchy. I couldn't understand a word but the singing is exactly what I envision when I think of late 70s/80s English punk.
My reaction to the first song was literally "eww" . And the rest of my reactions song-to-song oscillated between more cringing and confusion. I honestly do not understand not only who allowed this man to make an album, with such bad vocals on some tracks and such a weird vibe on the rest, but how it merited any inclusion on this list?? A couple of the songs are fine if you take them with a sense of humour but they do not belong on an album for casual listening - maybe as a goofy character in a musical or something - but Good God, why did I have to listen to this?
Some great rock! I can't believe I haven't heard of Deep Purple before...this album is right up my alley! Highly enjoyed it!
Good for some quintessential flowy/electronic music that feels like belongs in a 90s movie soundtrack. Ultimately though I was wavering between 2 and 3 stars because while it wasn't bad, it very easily just fell into the background and was super similar song to song so I got bored about halfway through. Nothing wow-ed me so I'm rounding down
Definitely has that 90s hip-hop sound but it was interesting that the tone of the songs departs from what you usually hear in this genre of that time. It was often refreshing - especially in the lyrics about women (U was a great track!)
While not unenjoyable as background music, in the grand scheme of albums it unfortunately just doesn't impress me much
80s synth pop fun but I wish the rest of the album lived up to "Take on Me'
A cool listen - unique, interesting and good variety among the songs
Solid blues and the collaborations were cool but didn't quite pull me in enough to round up to 4 stars
I generally enjoy psych rock and the music was okay but I was honestly very underwhelmed by this album
Vocals were too nasal and shrill and the songs too repetitive for my taste
This album was all over the place, but I was strangely down for it! From the first song that reminded me of Tim Curry in Rocky Horror...to other songs that were Rolling Stones-esque...to the chaos of the last song - it definitely seems like this band couldn't figure out what they wanted their lane to be but at least it was interesting!!
Cool as a midpoint between classic 60s/70s rock and punk...messy but it holds your attention!
I enjoyed this much more than I tend to with punk rock - it was high energy and frenetic without being too chaotic and overwhelming
While not particularly exciting, it was enjoyable easy listening
While this falsetto style singing quickly becomes too much for me, this album undeniably has great vibes. Good music and good soul
This really isn't a genre I enjoy listening to but I found myself not minding it the first few songs with the songwriting and variety. However the second half of the album really declined for me and I started actively disliking it - the vocals shifted and it became more "noisy"
Groovy, funky goodness...again the falsetto voice thing isn't my personal preference but this was still a great listen! It amazing how such beautiful music can be speaking to such ugly social issues
Joni Mitchell is my mom's favorite musician so I grew up listening to her a lot and this is my favorite of her albums. Her storytelling and lyricism, as well as variety of music and unique voice, is spectacular. Wonderful listen with wonderful memories
Great music and storytelling and Me and Julio is a banger!
I like Jack White's voice (there's something Paul McCartney-esque about it) and it works well with the "simple" rock feel of this album
I was pretty bored and it felt even longer than it actually was
Bonnie Raitt has a great voice and while this music is nothing whizbang, sometimes it's just nice to listen to some pop-country just for a nice, uncomplicated listen
REM has such a distinctive sound but still manages to have a variety among their songs. Great songwriting and melancholy vibe. I definitely appreciate them more than I did when my mom and dad would listen to them when I was a kid.
This was a strangely wonderful album -- the concept of the first half showing a journey of aging was a bit on the experimental side but done masterfully. Then to be followed by some powerhouse S&G songs on side B -- I thoroughly enjoyed this listen!
I've never heard of this band but I very much enjoyed this listen! Many of the songs had a Bond theme song feel to them that I really enjoyed. Good music, good vocals
Bjork definitely is iconic for her "otherness" but setting that aside, the album just melds into one big background sound. I can see how it might appeal as an "artsy" production but it just wasn't all that interesting to listen to for me
There were some highs and lows on this album but ultimately nothing stuck with me between listenings and it was WAY too long for what it was
Wonderful voice but the songs on this album aren't that exciting
The vocal style could have made this uniquely interesting for a hip-hop album for me. However, the beats were repetitive and uninteresting and the message unnuanced enough to feel more like a condescending lecture -- for music with a message I feel like it's more impactful to be moved emotionally rather than hit over the head
I was actually super disappointed in this album as I had expected more from it. I really only liked two songs and the rest was highly boring and unremarkable
I always like the energy of Green Day music but ultimately almost all their songs sound the same to me and the lyrics are indistinguishable for all but like two songs. A fun listen but it becomes just a homogeneous vibe to me
I like psych rock but nothing really stood out on this album and the sound was a bit muddy and some of the vocals became grating at certain points. Probably could have been a 3-star for me because I like this type of music but in the grand scheme of albums I "need" to listen to, it drops to 2-stars
Had some interesting stuff going on in the middle but the beginning and end had too many stinkers that dragged down the whole album
Funky and groovy - great music, highs and lows as far as the songs themselves
I like the 60s, Beatles-esque sound but all the songs seemed muted and nothing stuck with me. I did enjoy the listen though
Each song was a showcase of musical talent -- great instrumentation and the harmonizing vocals are always super pleasing!
Stellar songwriting and her voice captures the folky, bluesy feel of her music so perfectly! This is another that hits the nostalgia feels too, with Carole King being another favorite of my mom's and I remember often listening to this album as a child.
This whole thing just faded into the background. The male vocals were very weak and the songs with the female vocals all sounded the same. Not bad but nothing more than fine
I rarely actually enjoy a hip-hop album as it isn't a genre I gravitate to, but I really enjoyed this listen! There was great variety and I think that's what kept me more engaged than other hip-hop albums I've listened to
I liked that it had a different feel than most 90s albums we've heard on the list but ultimately nothing really stuck out or would draw me back fot another listen
I really tried to have an open mind with this album. I can appreciate the variety within it for this genre of music but just can't get past how cringey it made me feel with its overly dramatic-teen angsty-2000s sound that I feel didn't age well.
A cool concept and a fun listen
It was fine but ultimately was just repetitive background music
This was such a muted, bland version of Madonna. The New Age-y, cultural appropriation-y style not only lent itself to no variety but also made her sound any other New Age 90s singer. And there was no reason this album should have been over an hour. The title track was the only song that had any impact...man, was this a disappointment!
This album starts off so so unbelievably strong! It kind of drops off a bit but each song still delivers great music (especially the piano obviously), great voice, and great storytelling. Elton is a master of his craft!
While Paint it Black is such an outstanding song and the Stones always deliver with good music and great vibes, points definitely need to be deducted for how poorly this album's lyrics have aged and their misogynistic views on women
Maybe I'm a fuddy-duddy but there is just way too much profanity to make listening to this enjoyable. I also found myself preferring the parts Snoop sang more than Dre, but seeing as this isn't a Snoop album, it was another strike against it. One of the very few albums I've chosen to not finish
A fun enough listen and very 90s with it's rap-rock sound but nothing lingers or sticks out as special
A good 60s listen, though the vocals and music often wasn't as sharp as I'd like, which wasn't only due to the quality of the recording
This would have been a solid middle of the road album, if a bit CW teen drama background music-y, but there was no reason this should have been a 28 song album and over two hours long. Instead it became extremely boring and one-note and I resented it's length. Cool album title though!
I liked the music and the singer was clearly giving it his all but the songs themselves were lyrically boring or repetitive. I feel like this could have been more with better songwriting but I'll round up to a 3 since I generally enjoyed it
Lyrically fantastic and the music had great variety too
Good as jazzy background music, got a bit too "synth-y" near the end though. Definitely sounded like it could have been the soundtrack of an early 80s movie, especially the first song as the opening credits music!
A great blues listen - his voice is so rich
Fine but generally just a generic 90s listen, nothing standing out and a bit muddy sounding
I didn't dislike it but the whole thing was very one dimensional. The vocals were the same "spooky" monotone, the music synth-y, "intergalaxic-y" 80s electronic pop. I think I like Depeche Mode better when I hear individual songs rather than a whole album all at once and I wouldn't go back to listen to any of these songs in particular
This album is bookended with some FANTASTIC songs - Behind Blue Eyes is a personal favorite. However, several songs in the middle really drag it down - it made the album lack cohesion for me and the "wordiness" of the songs overshadowed the music. Definitely some high high-points, but some low low-points
Ugh, this album is just so stinkin' good! The Beatles have such an amazing talent for having compact songs/albums that have so much variety from song to song but without losing their recognizable, distinct Beatles sound. Nowhere Man, In My Life, I'm Looking Through You, Think For Yourself...how can there be so many bangers on a 35-minutes album!?!?
I really enjoyed this album! The songs had great energy but didn't lose the melody or musicality that I so often am missing while listening to other metal bands. The only thing keeping my rating from a 5 is that so many of the songs sound very similar but I would definitely go back to listen to Iron Maiden!
Some solid, interesting music on this album, though sometimes the vocals weren't cutting it. You can definitely hear Bowie's influence (though Bowie does it much better IMO) and The Passenger is a fantastic song.
The confidence and vibes from this album are kinda fantastic and the message was so important culturally for the time that it was made. My only complaint is that it was too long, but only because this genre of music is not one I prefer for my personal listening
The music was just generic 80s sound and the singer a mediocre Prince/Bowie wanna-be
I can recognize that this album is probably really good for somebody who enjoys this genre, but for me the music is too "noisy" and overwhelming and the vocals too droning
Lyrically clever and masterful and the tone at times funny and others serious/highlighting important social issues/Black culture. The album also had great flow. I'm surprised by how much I ended up enjoying this - the length is the one this that stopped it from being rounded up to 4 stars
I'm a sucker for a good storytelling artist. This album had an amazing number of radio hits and even if they are a bit overplayed, the songs are just plain enjoyable!
Just What I Needed is a great song but the rest of the album just didn't live up to that standard. It was definitely upbeat but I found myself just wanting it to be done
Some great songwriting and Lana's voice definitely oozes mood and melancholy. Nothing quite hooked me enough to go back to it again but there were many songs I was impressed with for the feelings it evoked.
Just no. This was noisy and amateurish and I had to stop listening halfway through the album because every song was making me physically recoil
I enjoy this genre of music so it was a nice listen, but this album didn't seem cohesive
I'm sure this was an amazing concert experience and really great for Metallica fans. As for me, it's a cool concept but I'm not sure many of these songs were improved by the addition of the orchestra and I didn't stick around for the full 2+ hours of this album, but it was interesting enough!
I don't think I've yet been as torn with a rating as with this album! I HATED the first song and then LOVED the second and continued to oscillate between the two emotions for the length of the album. The music was great but everytime he started doing that mush-mouth, lazy singing style I wanted to plug my ears. Ultimately I think it boils down to inconsistency
Not for nothin' is Aretha the Queen of Soul! Her voice and her ability to emote are unbelievable! She just oozes talent and soul
A bit one dimensional and at times more whiney sing-talking than singing, but overall I enjoyed the listen. A couple of the songs fell victim to wordiness without cohesive musicality but I enjoyed the lyricism and emotion of most tracks
Though the rest of the album doesn't quite measure up to the FANTASTIC opening song, it kept my attention throughout. Just some great music and experimenting with genre mixing in a way that was not only interesting, but still pleasant to listen to
Some great oldies songs on here, but a bit boring even for a genre I like. Songs being on the Dirty Dancing soundtrack allowed this album to eek out a 3 rating by a hair
While I'm sure this band had lots of fun making this, but it was not fun to listen to. Unfortunately this was just repetitive noises for me
While not for me as a genre, this album had great variety. I think I would have enjoyed it more if it was shorter and it didn't impress me as much as other hip-hop albums that have been on the list so far, but it was entertaining
I just don't care for this artist, no matter how many albums this list has on it. The music makes me uncomfortable, which is maybe how it's supposed to make me feel but I don't like it!!
The music itself is fine, but very easily fades into the background. I didn't mind the songs with the predominantly male singer, but very much did not enjoy the songs with the female singer, as her voice just doesn't hit my ears right. Nothing intrigued me about this album
Something about Prince's music has never resonated with me. He definitely is a quintessential 80s sound, but a generic 80s sound. This was a long snooze fest for me.
